I think covid would have had a small impact on numbers, but it's likely those bods would have drifted away eventually anyway. 
I'm more inclined to blame the "cost of living crisis", literally everything has rocketed in price (except maybe Airsoft green fees ?), & for most Airsoft is low down the list of financial commitments, less disposable income will make people reevaluate their priorities.

When it comes to swaps, if the other guy doesn't have a considerable online history, ie feedback/posts/time under his belt, he'll have to send his kit first, no excuses, once received I'll reciprocate & give suitable commendable feedback. 
Everytime a new member posts up an extensive "wanted" list, I cringe, it's like chucking out a load of chum & waiting for the sharks to come around🦈

Unfortunately it's rare to find the people behind the production that actually care (or know) about the finer points that trigger some viewers. 
Then of those that do care (or know), how many of those are then hamstrung by the money people too tight to pay for more realism & detail. 
& then finally you get that small percentage who want to make a blockbuster, with a speculate to accumulate attitude, think the likes of oliver stone & platoon, actors at a harsh boot camp etc, living the dream lol. 
Unfortunately those productions are rare as rocking horse shit, watch the opening credits of most films these days & there's about a gazillion "production" companies (aka backers) who will tentatively throw a few quid in the hat while shitting themselves their gonna get bankrupted by a covid outbreak or lead actor od'ing before production finishes, in the old days it would be one firm commited to the end product.

That's another good point I'd overlooked, the sites themselves, we've lost some of the well established greats, the likes of UA, the mall, combat south & probably many more, new sites are rare & often short lived thanks to the stupid amount of new housing being built.

for me it was covid.
 
it didn't make me want to stop playing, far from it i couldn't wait to get back on the field.
 
and then everything opened up again and i got back on the field, looking forward to having some fun again.
 
except it was ruined, by the same old shit that's bugged me about this hobby since day 1.
 
wasn't the first time i'd felt like this, but thanks to the enforced break it made me realise the value of it even more.
 
that is to say that this hobby lacks consistency, that all it takes is one group of bad apples to rock up and even sites that are generally good can fail to provide an experience that lifts the spirits. the hobby you do to have a good time becomes a source of annoyance, and if you ain't having fun then why do it?
 
so decided to pack it in for now, not saying i won't be back but tbh i suspect without some major changes to how sites/the community organises itself i can't see the situation improving to a point where i'll not end up feeling the same again.

Like @Duff Beer, I too have a hsgi ao rig, yep it's very good, only downside is if your a wee bit porky it can look kinda silly & almost exaggerate ones porkiness.
In over 20 years of playing, & subsequently bouncing between load carrying kit trying to find the perfect solution, gotta say that the bulle mle is as close to perfection as your gonna find, I have two & no matter what I try, I always go back to them. 
I also use molle bandoleers, again when set up right it's awesome (for me😏).

I really enjoyed that film.  The translater dude looks very similar to one of the guys that work for me, which was a bit disconcerting.

Took a nice leisurely drive down to Bournemouth today to play at camouflage Airsoft.1st visit.
 
Nice big,shady carpark.
 
Short(ish)walk to registration and met by a cheery chap called John who signed us in and gave us a warm welcome. Thanks John👍
 
Local players were friendly and made us feel welcome and in the field, hit taking was excellent with compliments on good shots🙂
 
First impressions of the safe zone was'wow". It was well laid out,clean and organized. Built in toilet block, on site shop and an abundance of free tea and coffee 😁
 
Chrono station was nicely set up and doubled as a shooting range.(nice touch).
 
Game play was simple but different with games played back to back.The terrain,I found, was very arduous and unforgiving with steep,loose climbs great for the gazelles and mountain goats among us but not much fun for arthritic tortoises like me lol.
 
Plenty of well laid out cover and the building were amazing.
 
Racked up my best kill rate including two bollock shots to the site photographer. His fault for pointing a camera at me and not wearing a hi Vis vest!
( I have promised to by a pic as way of apology)
 
Marshals were friendly, approachable and put themselves about.
 
Overall a great day but exhausting.
Will definitely be going again.

Every time I think "is it really worth their while?" I have to remind myself that this is a hobby where people will happily pay multiple hundreds for toys, just to get a moment of unboxing euphoria.

I was talking to a chap at Spec Ops, he was considering a swap deal with someone in Northern Ireland.  Luckily he'd not committed because he thought a GBBR might get too much attention from the authorities, might get seized, but I cautioned him there's a scammer over there. I'd never ever do a swap to NI

It was Jim at Platoon Stores who put me straight.  I dropped him a message to let him know (we both wear Zephyrs) and he spotted it was dodgy.  Unfortunately I didn’t message him until after I’d bought mine.
