Eyepro - Ski-goggle Type or Glasses-type?
EDcase replied to Little White Balls's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Yep, anything other than mesh is gona fog at some point. Depending how efficiently your body cooling system works. (ie how much you sweat) 😉 I haven't tried it yet but read/heard good things about 'Cat Crap' (yeah stupidest name ever) My biking buddy swears by it for motorcycle helmets and airsoft goggles. I got some to try at my next game. I've got some (cheap) FMA fan goggles and while they're quite effective they still don't get rid of the fog problem completely. Maybe in combination with the above CatCrap might be the solution? (will try) I've seen quite a few people use mesh and I have too on occasion when fogging was too bad. In four years of woodland games I've not come across anyone who witnessed any incidents involving mesh. CQB is a different story and I wouldn't use mesh for that. Forget shooter glasses type. Worse than mesh. -
Ditto all the above. Since you've been before you know what to expect. Went on my own, started chatting to others on the bench and still meet up with a few after 4 years.

In my job its 'Frames Per Second' Gets very confusing 😄

Welcome back then 😉

You should concentrate on good eye protection. Search the forum for threads about best eyepro. Ankle support boots are important too as twisted ankles are the most common injuries. Army surplus is good for that. Classifieds on afuk are generally safe but check the history of the seller. As far as selling you a realistic imitation firearm (RIF), it depends on the seller. They can legally sell you one if you can convince them that you will use it for airsoft properly. As Adolf Hamster said, you should really rent for you first 3 games to get a feel for the game and get UKARA registered. You may change your mind about the kind of gun you want.

Hi Stephanie, I presume he hasn't played a game at a site yet? If that's the case then he doesn't need to join a team to play. Many of us (including me) started just by going on our own and meeting people during the day. It may be a bit intimidating at first but most are helpful to new players. I took my son when he was 14 and its a good bonding activity for father and son. When actually playing, everyone runs in their own direction so he can just follow along with anyone. The main thing is to obey the rules while having fun. When shot, raise hand and shout 'HIT' so that he doesn't get shot anymore. With hand raised to show he's out its just a case of walking to an area to respawn and join in again. The most important elements are good quality eye protection (not mesh) and boots with ankle support (army surplus is good for this) Good eye pro would include: Bolle Tracker Bolle Pilot II And face protection like THIS If you need to find a site near you then have a look HERE It may be a bit out of date so some of the info could be wrong but its a place to start. Alternatively search 'airsoft' in Google Maps around where you live.

Yeah its a rough science. The only thing I can think of besides randomness with fitting is maybe the O-ring seal around the piston head. With stronger spring=higher pressure maybe it expands more to give a better seal...?
-
I think 306fps from an M100 is acceptable. There won't be one single thing you can change to improve it.
-
Not sure you can check without taking apart but if you have callipers use the prong gauge to check the nozzle protrusion and then insert into the hop to see how far that goes in?
-
Interesting thanks. Maybe try testing the air seal in the hop unit and barrel by blocking the hop holes and blowing down the barrel. Check that the nozzle has good travel outward so it can fit in the hop unit far enough to seal.
-
Yeah, the M60vn I have is quite well put together and gearbox is solid. At £128 this is a cheap gun after all
-
Just to clarify, did you try the new hop unit from AK2M4 or adding the spring to the original one?
-
Well, since I had a few springs lying around I finally decided to making a spring power measuring device... Using a luggage scale you hold and pull on the orange hose fitting up to the orange line (piston length). The scale holds the measurement so you can read it when it beeps. Takes a few goes to get an average reading but I compared readings of known spring strengths with a friend who uses a slightly different method and our readings do correlate. I will try to find an M10 bolt that only has threading at the top to make the pull smoother.

I don't know. It doesn't mention anything about tax in the order. Ah, didn't realise that. I was lucky then. I did get a reply from them saying that they just tested it and shipped. I could possibly return it but its just not worth the hassle. If I got another there's a chance it might be as bad or worse. It was very cheap from A&K who don't have the best reputation so I'll take what I've got I did think of sending it to Luke but I'll try and sort it myself first as a learning project 😉

I've just tried an M100 spring in my new rifle. (A&K LR300) and also only get 260-270 fps. I'm quite sure the piston and cylinder have no major leaks so I'm in pretty much the same situation as you. I just ordered an M110 spring and new Maple Leaf Macaron (Thanks AK2M4 😉) So we'll see what that does...

Just purchased a RIF from Titano-Store in Italy. Good price Not good comms as I didn't even receive an email receipt for purchase. Luckily I did a screen capture of the order summary on the web page before closing. Took 2 days to prepare with no comms again. On 3rd day received an email with just 'DHL xxxxxxxxxx' Got to say that DHL tracking is really good but... It arrived 2 days earlier than predicted. 😲 No extra fees in this case. So all good... But checking over the RIF it has some problems. 1) The rear sight has some dents from some quite heavy knocks. Could be related to (2) below. 2) Also the rear sight elevation is jammed and does not function. Don't know if this is due to age or someone turning too tight. Tried to loosen with oil etc but could not fix it so will have to buy a new one 3) One of the two screws holding the hand grip has been head stripped. Has anyone had this from new? 4) More serious. The two screws holding the motor plate were self tapping wood screws instead of M3 bolts! ( I changed them asap and luckily threads were OK) 5) The RIF shoots low power of about 260fps and quite far to the right but its an A&K so can't blame the shop for that. So Titano has poor comms but seem quite efficient though I'm not convinced I got a new rifle. Its too much hassle to return so will try to fix myself.

The barrel spring is better than the top spring if you can fit one.
-
Glad I might be of some help. Iceni beat me to it 😀 Usually there's a spring around the inner barrel or on the front of the hop unit (facing muzzle end) so that the hop unit gets some pressure backwards when the nozzle goes in. Check YT for a disassembly video on his rifle to see which one it should be. ak2m4 is on this forum and a great guy to get your bits from
-
Hi and welcome James Since you've checked the head/cylinder/nozzle seal the only other place I can think is the hop unit and rubber. Just read your post again and read that you already changed the hop rubber so I guess its not there. I'm not a gun-tech so I can't think of anything else.

Yep, I think the key thing is to avoid the stores using UPS (for now) -

I don't want to rub salt into the wounds but to give a glimmer of hope that all is not doom and gloom ordering from Europe now. I took a chance and ordered a rare RIF from an unknown site in Italy called TITANO-STORE Ordered: Monday 15th. No confirmation email 🤔 Wed 17th. Asked for update. They replied it would go in afternoon. Not feeling confident Thursday 18th. Got email just with DHL tracking number. Estimated delivery 24th Today 22nd Surprise package arrives 😲 No extra fees to pay!!! So I would recommend Titano-Store from my limited experience. ...and what did I get...? https://www.titano-store.com/en/c/airsoft-c28617/rifles-displayed-by-model-c28842/lr300-c29132/lr300-full-metal-aandk-lr300-p939142 £165 including delivery EDIT: While the delivery was good, the rifle itself is not so good. Looks like someone has been in it and messed up a few screws. I didn't ask for any power adjustment and they didn't mention any so I suspect its a dodgy return they had and passed on to me. Not going to bother returning. -
Don't worry Chris. As has been said, good eye protection and ankle support boots are the only essentials to worry about. Its great you have all the kit already 👍 It may seem a bit intimidating and confusing at first. Find a place to set up and get your kit sorted. You'll start chatting to people around you who will likely be happy to help you if you have any questions. (If they aren't friendly find a different spot) Listen to the instructions of the organisers/marshals and follow your team to the start point. Then just follow what everyone else is doing 😁 By lunchtime you'll be one of the regulars 😉

Sounds like the firing pin is sticking out too much in the gun so when you put the mag in its venting slowly. You should be able to hear that though. Try putting the mag in with the hammer pulled back and see if it still shoots after a minute or two. I'm afraid it does sound like its faulty and needs to go back.
