You cannot buy SWAT VTG new anymore (even though the website is still up) If you find a second hand one it should be good but age may affect its reliability. The VTG usually comes with adapters for 209 primers, 9mm rimmed and 12g blanks. If you do find one I would advise to only use the 209 blanks because the 9mm can be dangerous for hearing and the 12g are outright banned at all sites. I think the best option would be a Dynatex timed grenade which uses the 209's that are cheap and plenty loud enough.

If its the feed (bottom) then try tightening with a flat head screw driver. Its quite easy to get replacement valves.

Welcome Rob. There's plenty of choice for the M4 and MP5 platforms with a wide price range so have a look around and read as much as you can. First choice to look at will be Electric (AEG) or Gas (GBB) operated. GBB is fun and closer to real but much more expensive to buy/use and limited ammo is a disadvantage in a game.

Welcome back Nixed by a Hamster 😁 I would guess its most likely dead battery given the age without maintenance. It can show 9.6v with no load but not have enough current to actually turn the motor. Another possibility is the gearbox has seized. Can you get hold of a good battery to test?

If you don't have a butane torch then ordinary gas hob will work. Try and heat evenly though it can be concentrated at one end. Should be squashed with some kind of guide to make sure it doesn't kink and allow to cool naturally. It won't need much heating (not glowing) and it shouldn't get more than 5mm shorter at a time. Would be good to measure the length before and after so you can quantify the fps difference and go from there.
