Asomodai got a reaction from Tackle in Dytac SLR AK74 Full Length AK. Upgraded
    Hello gents.

Looking for an appraisal on the following.

    Dytac SLR AK74 - 336FPS on .20
    ZCI 433mm Inner Barrel
Guarder Clear Hop Rubber and Prommy Purple nub
    SHS 14 ½ piston
    G&G brass Cylinder Head
    G&G V3 Gearbox
    G&G Bushings
    SLD Piston Head
    S&T Aluminium Full Cylinder
    Lct Hop unit
    Perun Mosfet
    Sorbo
SHS High Torque 16TPA Neodymium Motor.
    ZCI Advanced 18:1 gearset.

Comes with the original box, no mag, but works fine with every mag I have tried, Midcap, HiCap, different brands etc.

Comes with the Foregrips as on the photos. Currently has a CYMA Railed Dust cover installed, but will include the original Dytac Dust cover and rear sight. The Receiver is made of stamped Steel. The Bolts in the stock have been replaced with thicker German bolts which are much more sturdy then the suspect stock ones.

This is a quiet sounding well shimmed AK. I can provide a firing video if required. I reckon I have used this AK maybe 4 or 5 times at a skirmish and is in good external condition.

The last true long standing site close to London that I had never been to. @Albiscuit and I were going to go to Red 1 Oblivion, which fell through so decided to dust off the old reviews and give Skirmish Wycombe a visit. We attended on 30/01/2022.

Skirmish Wycombe are usually fully booked and run every week switching between Saturdays and Sundays. It's a paintball site which is also used for Airsoft. It's a fairly long running site.

Small Woodland site which has nice variation with regards to elevation with a valley running through a third of the site and elevated precipice above it. Short/Medium/Long range engagement distances. Foliage is both low and high but hardly any at head height so there is enough visibility for bolt action users and not so great for the taller person. There are plenty of earthworks and man made structures (None of which are particularly complex and only one small elevated building.)

    Good:

Playing Area: It is quite a small site but it's nice and varied, despite being a paintball site first, the zones are opened up nicely and run into each-other for Airsoft ranges. As explained before there are lots of manmade buildings and earthworks, though maybe something a bit more elaborate could make this a truly excellent.

Turn around time: Pretty short, you certainly get your moneys worth, they get lots of games in.

Safe Zone: Small area, though it looks like it could be expanding soon, everything is covered and was big enough for the small crowd that attended. Park bench style seating and tables. Digital signage for the food stall, Battery charging available. It was good overall, but it did feel a little "tired", could do with some sprucing up.

Safety Brief: Short and sweet. Covered most things.

Food: Pulled pork with BBQ sauce and for us non pork/veggies, freshly cut Mediterranean vegetables with Mac and Cheese. It was stonkingly good food for an airsoft site, and is included with the £30 entry fee. Seems to be cooked on site. The tuck shop had digital boards with the prices on, they do freshly made milkshakes (Shakeway style made with different sweets etc) Had what appeared to be syrup style fizzy drink dispensers. So for Food and Drink, this site is first class. All the more impressive that it's in-house. No food trucks here.

Shop: Really good shop! A large and wide selection of RIFs and pistols. They had an LCT Val, WE Makarov, G&G GK5C, F2000's. Really interesting selection. Prices are high like at most on-site shops. But not many places have this breadth of selection.

Game Modes: Mostly simple, but effective, usual domination/zombie/4 way round robin games. Have a nice looking bomb setup.

    Average:

Value: £30 is quite a lot to ask for when the site is pretty small, but the food and turn around time does make up for it.

Clientele: Very young, lots of rentals and new people to the sport with very few older gents. They were friendly enough, but behaviour in the field was very suspect.

Toilets: In an elevated shack in the car park, not an ideal position. It has real porcelain which is usually a good rating by default, but they were a little dirty and stank quite badly! I think the waste is stored underneath and removed periodically.

Car Park/Entrance: Small mud car park, sign posted at the entrance but you need to follow signs for Fryers Farm thereafter and not mistakenly come off the other junctions within. Car Park is nearly right at the end of the main track after you see a gate that says "Staff only". It hadn't rained much recently, but I can imagine it getting slippery up to the nearby elevated safe zone.

Chrono: Mandatory and everything was tagged. Usual 350 FPS for AEGs, shotguns and pistols. 450 for DMR and 500 for BASR. Would get a "Good" but Al overheard a marshal ask another marshal

"This guys rifle is shooting over 350 on one chrono and 320 on another, what should I do?"

"Go by the reading that lets them play".

They also required me to chrono by .2's so they do not account for joule creep on heavier ammo.

    Bad:

Hit taking: This was the massive bugbear of the day. In the morning there were some poor hit takers, mostly from frustrated players who couldn't break through enemy lines. We really enjoyed the mornings games despite this and were glad to carry on without grumbling. I made a prophetic comment at lunch (As long as the hit taking doesn't get any worse, I would consider this site fantastic, we'll see what happens!)

The Afternoon was a complete shitshow for all three games. Two almost whole site games fighting over a single objective, there were about 4-5 grey hooded rentals, none of which would take their hits, you could see bb's pinging off them, they held important buildings which overlooked the main objective and wouldn't budge. I went up to one at the end of a game and said how well they held up and if they died at all? "Nah mate". It was almost comical how it was the grey hooded players that didn't take hits. It was a classic stereotype.

On my own side there were other hooded rentals who would get shot, take the hit and instead of walking back to spawn 3 minutes away, would go behind a hedge and spawn straight back in.

I had to exclaim to many rentals on my side that dead men don't talk as they kept trying to relay information to me about enemy whereabouts after they had been shot or asking me where I was shot from when I was walking back to spawn.

Marshalling: I was tempted to put this in "Average", there are a number of marshal's, but only one appeared to have any experience or clout, and was looked to for advice by the others on a consistent basis. Considering how many people were complaining about how bad the hit taking was, I didn't see anyone get spoken to, no test shooting and no shadowing of suspect people.

CEASEFIRE: In the afternoon games ceasefire was called no less then 6 times in two half hour games. Unsure as to why, some people say it was because people were walking on a footpath nearby. This needs to be sorted with maybe a proper fence etc as it killed the flow of the game (And many people would sneakily move up and into better positions from where they were when the ceasefire was called).

    Conclusion:

A really difficult one, we really like the site and we will come back to see what happens playing against different people. The morning was excellent and was great gameplay but the inaction over hit taking really killed the Afternoon for us to the point that we left slightly early deflated. It goes to say, there were roughly just as many rentals as there were experienced players.

We liked the informal atmosphere and the on-site facilities were great. They limit numbers as the site is rather small and the numbers were about right. I'd like to come back and see what it looks like with summer foliage.

The Marshalling team need to be far more pro-active/confident in dealing and directing players, maybe some more experience would be a good idea.

Bullpup Watch: T97, an Aug of some description.

I had put off going to airsoft recently despite having been packed ready to go for the past 4 weeks. A last minute dash to celebrate an anniversary resulted in me looking at Airsoft sites close to Dunstable for Easter Sunday. A second visit to Red 1 The School was on the cards but I did spot that RIFT Airsoft were playing The Ridge which was pretty darned close. A quick message to @Albiscuit and we got booked in.

Despite doing these reviews for years, I had never visited a RIFT site, Always wanted to do COM 3 but never managed to get around to it. RIFT Airsoft have been going for years and have a knack for acquiring fairly unique sites.

General consensus about the site from previous reviews: "You get a work out, but it's fun".

Medium sized ex Quarry turned 4x4 Trail of which the entrance is scarily located right on the onramp to the A6 (As in you are literally about to merge onto the A6 blink and you'll miss the site entrance on the left and have to come back around from the next junction).

The Ridge is a Sandy/Woodland site which has huge elevation changes around the North, North West and West sides of the site. Very steep hills which need careful footwork to navigate. Despite being promoted as a Quarry, it has lots of Bush style woodland vegetation which provides some cover and a challenge to walk through.

Short/Medium/Long Engagement distances, though due to the stronger wind in the large open area long distance engagement was difficult. There are no man made structures at all. It's a pure site in that regard.

The site has no permanent Airsoft event infrastructure. It is all brought in from outside in a van for the day.

    Good:

USP: Not many sites like this in the UK. Sandpit closed down years ago, Imperium's Quarry is quite small and the one used in Kent for the RUCKUS games is almost never used (More of a "Guest" site.) The Ridge quarry is not as good or featured as the other quarry sites, but it's open more often. There is no quarry machinery etc. Just the sand and rock left over. Very glad it exists though if you want a somewhat different game day to usual. (Roll out the desert uniform!)

Safety Brief: Very much a "mall" style safety brief, long, but covered everything and it was needed due to the natural dangers the site has.

Shop: Pretty good shop. A large selection of low/mid tier pistols and rifles. Gear, gas and bb's.

Game Modes: More complicated then your average skirmish, with multiple objectives (The pole game was quite interesting). You need to pay attention in the game brief to make sure your team win. Even if you dominate the opposing teams spawn point, they can score points if you aren't playing for the objective.

Chrono: Mandatory, nothing was tagged, but everyone's rifle was noted and FPS was ticked off on a sheet. I do prefer tagging, but this is a reasonable way of doing it. (As long as people don't switch up to a different "M4". FPS limits are 350FPS for AEG, 370FPS for LMG (With MED) 450FPS for DMR and 500 FPS for BASR. Green gas pistols were not chronoed.

    Average:

Playing Area: It's sandy, which makes it different, but with more woodland then you expect, and the woodland is where most of the play occurred. The sandy areas were "mostly" open and flat which did not encourage people to use them as anything more then a shortcut to get to the woodland. The woodland was dense, but passible to the West and North West, North was higher foliage and passable, The South East and South was more dense and mostly impassable. All woodland sections had open clay paths. throughout. Not as many brambles as you might expect for a Quarry site, but still enough to keep you looking to avoid.

Value: £30 for a quarry site is perfectly fine, despite lack of features.

Clientele: Appeared to be 18+, A mixture of serious and casual players. Seemed friendly enough and stayed within their friendship groups. Had a laugh with some on the way to the safe zone. Despite a zero policy on drugs there were a couple of players hotboxing in a car in carpark at lunchtime.

Turn around time: Could have been shorter, but it was quite a hot day so appreciated the rest. (The walk down to the car was pretty steep as well)

Food: Pork Hot Dogs cooked on-site, No veggie/non pork option, when we asked if they had an alternative they said we needed to have contacted them before hand, but I couldn't find that information on the website. There was a fair selection of Sweets, Crisps and Drink.

Hit taking: Mostly good, but with a few of the usual teflon Multiglam and casual players. Frustrating at times as they wont take their hits until they hit you. The determination to kill someone before admitting to being hit before is strong to those people.

Marshalling: Mostly hands off. I didn't see them get too involved in the non hit taking aspect, but they were always within shouting distance to query the game objectives, directions and current points total. All had radios.

    Bad:

Car Park/Entrance: Rough going. The Entrance to the site is right on the entrance to the A6. You need to go slow to catch it before you run out of On Ramp. The car park is split into two, an uphill dirt track where you park on the side of the road (I recommend parking as close to the top of this) Or a largish car park at the bottom of the track though whilst level, it means you have to haul yourself down and up the hill in-between games.

Safe Zone: It's basically the Car Park and Entrance. People setup out of their cars. No cover. As mentioned, the site has no permanent infrastructure. All brought in on the day.

Toilets: A single Portaloo for everyone to use. It was a hot day so I didn't dare use it.

    Conclusion:

We liked the site, it's different. We can rock up here more often then other Quarry sites. But as much as you want it to be, it doesn't give you that "Quarry experience" It seems more like a Woodland site with large open sandy/rocky bits.

Going up and down the elevated areas does sap the energy and can be dangerous, but taking it nice and slow through the dense woodland bits tends to work better and require less effort.

I am sure we will return as it is really quite close to London (With a car it's a doddle as it's all Motorway/A Road).

Definitely a site for the more serious and experienced player.

Bullpup Watch: LOADS, 2x FAMAS, L85, L86, UAR, TAVOR etc etc.

Desperate for a Bank Holiday Monday game and Driver Wood being a little too far for @Albiscuit we decided to go give Apocalypse Paintball and Airsoft a visit. This used to be run by RIFT Airsoft and was better known as "The Village". Not much has been written about the site since Apocalypse took back control to run the airsoft side themselves, so we were going in pretty much blind.

Apocalypse Airsoft is a very small Woodland site located south of Cambridge. It is rectangular shape with a small tail where the Safe Zone and Playing Area entrance is. There is a Tower/Church Area, Village, Fort and Tyre section. All can be seen from the centre of the site. There are many buildings, only the Fort and Tower have an extra story. Only the tower has a roof. There are lots of very tall trees and lots of extra low foliage along with barricades to help create cover. The site is very flat with no real elevation. Short/Medium/Long engagement distances are in play.

There were around 30+ players on the day. This site requires* the use of Bio BB's. No bangs are allowed as the site next to a Psychiatric hospital. Smoke only.

    Good:

Chrono: A mandatory chrono was in affect and result was noted against your registered name though no guns were marked.  AEG FPS limits are a 350FPS. DMR is 450 and Bolt actions are 500. Green Gas blowback pistols are not chronoed in the Winter.

Safe Zone: Is a fairly small safe zone which can cater for about 50-60 players. Picnic benches that were all under cover. The Shop and confectionary stands were all inside. It was a pretty nice safe zone. Protected from the elements. Toilets were just by the entrance.

Parking: A gravel track running up to the safe zone. So no long walks.

    Average:

Clientele: The Vast majority of the clientele were experienced Airsofters. Very few rentals. Everyone appeared to be over 18 and well into their 30's. The people we spoke to were quite friendly but kept to themselves within the safe zone. People did talk to each other during the gameplay though.

Game modes: We only played two game modes before going home. The first one was a small push back and flag waving game onto the Tower from the Village. Second was a more elaborate and interesting game trying to get ammo crates and box to a fort.

Toilets: Two Portaloo's, they were in OK condition.

Value: £25 for a skirmish, food not included. Bang average.

    Bad:

Playing area: On paper, the playing area appears to be very well equipped and should play quite well, but on the day it just didn't work out. The site is just too open.

There are plenty of low barricades, but not enough medium height vegetation. You can see from one end of the site to the other almost anywhere you stand. As a result it's very hard to push up on objectives without good team work and luck. The site is full auto almost all of the time and is detrimental to the playing area environment. It feels very much like just another paintball site that does Airsoft. The fort and village area is covered by stinging plants and I came away with lots of welts trying to crawl up to the objective without getting shot. It was almost perverse! There were trenches on parts of the site, but they were so shallow and surrounded by stinging plants that they were difficult to flank people in.

Safety Brief: Very short, didn't cover MED for snipers (Which resulted in a bad incident where someone left early). Delivered very flat. Catered towards experienced players rather then the rentals that may have needed more instruction.

Marshalling: Either Lackadaisical or non existent. One Head Marshal and two player Marshals. The Head Marshal seemed to not care that much. The player Marshals were no where to be seen; The one our side seemed determined to carry out the objective, but often went off and did his own solo thing without rallying the side together. He was never around to report things to. Complaints of non hit taking were at best not followed up or at worse laughed off.

Food: Almost non existent. Sweets, Crisps and Drink. No hot foot available on site. The website mentions you can pre order food beforehand but I saw no real mechanism for this.

Shop: Bio BB's and gas were for sale and precious little else.

Bio only BB: I have no issue with sites being Bio only, both myself and @Albiscuit bought our BB's from the shop before playing and they were of reasonable quality. However there were ZERO spot checks as to whether people were actually using Bio BB's. The player next to use was openly using non bio bb's as can be seen from his bottle. No point in having a very staunch and visible rule if you don't plan on checking up on it and enforcing it.

Turn Around Time: We didn't get many games in at all. Safety Brief was supposed to happen at 9:30AM, but didn't until gone 10. We were given a 5 minute warning to reload and get back out but waited over 20 minutes before anything happened.

Hit Taking: Flipping awful. Shooting long range and see bb's pinging off of people? Good luck, because softer hits seem to be completely ignored by almost everyone. Try shooting at people running full pelt and see the BB's pinging off? Guaranteed they wont take it. Shooting someone point blank and expect them to take it? Nah, they will just bring their rifle around and shoot you in response and claim it was 50/50.

The day has some of the most blatant non hit taking I have seen in Airsoft. It got so bad that we left early (I have only ever done this once before at an Airsoft Skirmish and it was @Albiscuit first time leaving early ever). Many other people were complaining about hit taking which got progressively worse as the day went on and we were certainly not the only people to leave early due to it. It was just pointless trying to carry on.

The Marshal's either weren't around to complain to, or did nothing when we did. One kid was getting so frustrated he told me he was going to put in a 420 FPS spring in his Full Auto enabled rifle for the next game. Mentioned it to a Marshal who just laughed it off.

    Conclusion:

This was the worst Airsoft Skirmish I have been to since Tactical Airsoft in Croydon 4-5 years ago. Which had almost identical issues. Hit taking is optional. Full Auto required to get anywhere and non existent Marshalling. Considering how experienced the clientele seemed to be I was surprised how bad it was (I played Ultimate Wargames in Kent two days previous to this visit where 90% of players were under the age of 18 and took almost all their hits and are an absolute credit to the hobby!).

It's a real shame how it turned out. The Playing area looks good on paper but the layout just doesn't seem to work. It could be improved upon by increasing the quantity and quality of the barriers. The Stinging nettles could be cut back. The trenches need to be re-dug to be deeper. Full auto should be banned to help have a better chance at pushing up.

The marshals need to be more pro-active in stamping out hit taking.

So yeah... Not great! There are far better sites that you can go to.

Bullpup Watch: L85 and a Tavor.

Bumping this as I popped back down here again on 30/04/22.

The playing area has been expanded to a nicely sized CQB section in amongst some bluebell woodland. It is separate to the rest of the site and its an excellent area. Lots of man made props. It's completely worth going to play at! I have edited the review above.

On a whim I decided to go to Ultimate Wargames Fawkham (02/02/2020 and 30/04/2022), this is one of the most difficult sites to get to for me on public transport and walking. Taking 3 underground trains, National Rail and a 60 minute walk to get there (Luckily a regular and his mum saw me at the side of the road and picked me up to take me there the last mile. They also gave me a lift to the station after)

The site has been established for some time, but is not massively well advertised or talked about. Reviews have been somewhat negative, citing lack of chrono, small site and favouritism to towards the home team.

This is a small sized woodland site, with a large field in the middle with a CQB section which is detached from the main field. There is a gentle slope but no real deviations in height. There is only 2 or 3 purpose built buildings, including a twin tower section which was used predominantly throughout the day, another small rectangular building and a small bunker.  No water features. Short and medium engagement distances were in use throughout the day.

The CQB field which was added during the pandemic has multiple buildings, fences and barricade. It is an excellent area which is not the usual style of American killhouse plywood.

The site seems more a club then anything because of the ratio of regulars to occasional players. There was only about 17 players on the day. 60 players are considered a huge turnout, so if you like small numbers this site might be one to consider.

The Vegetation was mostly high trees with high branches and areas of nettles at a low level. So cover was at a bit of a premium when standing up. Though if you don't mind lying down with pointy nettles, you can easily hide well enough to get the drop on people.

    Good:

Fun Moments: I had a fantastic time at this site. Morning was a bit slow, but the Afternoon was just fun game after fun game. I had a great personal performance kicking ass with my FAMAS and pistol. The low numbers really helped (I hate too many players!)

Saturdays and regular game days: Unlike most sites, this one opens almost every week. Half of the time on Sundays and the other half on Saturdays, So if you are looking for a game, chances are there is one here most weekends.

Clientele: The vast majority of the clientele were made up of under 18's. But every single one of them were respectful, excitable, tactically minded and a credit to the future of the sport. They had modest equipment, but knew how to use it on the field. Were very polite in asking questions and were happy to listen to advice. They put many adults I have played with on other sites to shame. The adults were fine as well!

Marshalling: A great thumbs up here. 2 player marshals all day and they really added to the day, I had concerns about hit taking from a certain player and they asked me who it was and that they would follow them. Very proactive, very friendly and they had a quick game turnaround.

Safety Brief: Was fairly standard, covered all the salient points. No complaints.

Game modes: We mostly played fallback games and team annihilation. If the weather didn't make the CQB section bogged down then we would have used that during the day, apparently they run an Airsoft TT game mode (Ala house Gamers Airsoft) on occasion. The games were clearly well planned and tested, which means there is little to go wrong. Every game felt competitive.

    Average:

Playing area: When I first went to the site there was just the one section where there wasn't much in the way of man made structures, there was no unique selling point. The old CQB section was too boggy to use due to the poor weather and is a typical American killhouse style which I am not a fan of. The vegetation was varied for the size of the site and the field area was nice but not in use for a whole lot. I think more structures, maybe a trench system would be ideal to help change the site up.

On my second visit they had added a large CQB area to the site. It has loads of fencing, buildings, stationary vehicles and barricades. It is not uniform and it is totally worth going to play in.

Chrono: A mandatory chrono was in affect though no guns were marked.  AEG FPS limits are a 350FPS. DMR is 420 and Bolt actions are 500. Chronoing on .2's is preferred rather then joule rate, Green Gas blowback pistols are not chronoed in the Winter.

Food: Food orders are made when you sign up in the morning. Lunch is a burger, chips and a drink for £5. Though I didn't enquire about other food options, it wasn't offered or advertised either. The burger and fries were cooked fresh and NOT reheated. They also had burger relish which I personally love which you don't see at most burger serving sites!

Parking: There was quite a bit of parking available especially considering the low turnouts. Its not far from the safe zone, however it was pretty muddy, so make sure you have tyres with a bit of grip.

Safe Zone: Is pretty small. Picnic tables available to everyone who turned up, around 70% of them are under cover, the shop and kitchen are in portacabins. The safe zone does get pretty muddy though so watch your step. Looks a bit tired.

Shop: I didn't see much of it, though i did see a few pistol boxes, mostly WE stuff. Random gas and bb's. It wasn't the best.

    Bad:

    None.

    Conclusion:

After my second visit, I have to say I really like this site the Clientele, Staff, Game modes and overall experience it was a great day and would love to play more. The physical features have been much improved with the addition of the CQB section and make this totally worth a visit!

I really enjoyed my day, if it was closer to me I would go more often.

I definitely recommend this for young players.

I still prefer using HiCaps. Yes they rattle, but you are usually making just as much noise just by running around then the rattling of the high caps. When sneaking I have never had a problem with High Caps rattling to the point it gave away my position. High Caps means having to carry less mags which is always a bonus.

You'll need to convert the front end of the RIF to an MP5 SD, So new cocking tube, Front Sight, Cocking Handle, Handguard holder and G&G Rail covers. It will require some technical skill and some tools to mate the G3 receiver to the SD front end.

I think the biggest barrier is weight limits at this point. Post Office/RM wont take anything above 2KG I think. So most rifles will still be PF48.

He sent it Royal Mail. Not Parcelforce. Thats the Parcel Force prohibited list.

Will it get seized? I have doubts. But no experience.

I did accidently send out a rifle PF24 before and it got through. Probably doesn't help in this instance.
