  1. I would not recommend taking a RIF out in public. Hypothetically - a concerned member of the public sees you carrying a gun and phones the police, armed response is deployed, you are detained, waste police time. A journalist picks up the story, airsoft is brought into disrepute, pressure to have more restrictions on the sport, everyone suffers. It is not worth the risk for a bit of posing. Of course the YouTube video of the police takedown could be good to watch, and 15 minutes of fame
  2. UKARA is a retailer database, a way that they (the retailer) can verify that the person they are selling a RIF to is legal (within definition of the VCRA) over 18 and with a valid defence. By law only a person over 18 may purchase a RIF. Parents are not always responsible for their children, or the children themselves are irresponsible and their parent(s) cannot manage them. A gift of a RIF can be made by an adult to a child. Even if there was an under 18's register, the kids would still not be allowed to buy a RIF. The rules protect the sport, and allow airsoft to continue, and I would not want to change the under 18 ruling. An advantage of being classed as an adult is that you can buy alcohol or vote, and with defence buy a RIF.
  3. Having goggles fog up is a recurring problem experienced by most of us at some time, and frequently asked here, so type the word 'fogging' into the search box and read through those threads. Mesh often popular as they have good air flow and heats dissipates but like you I am not keen on them as the mesh plays havoc with my vision. Randymanpipe has a good point about wearing helmets, they do cause more fogging as they make heat harder to escape, not so bad outside but indoors can be a pain. Nothing worse than not seeing what you are doing or where you are. I started off with the face mask and goggle combo with Fast helmet but still fogged using Bolle X1000. I now use the Dye I4 facemask which is best solution for me so far. The mask is shaped to keep breath away from eyes/lens but can still fog under a fast helmet as the top vents do not work as efficiently. No issues over a balaclava and beanie hat, where the mask is outside and the top vents are clear. Fans can help with airflow, and the best goggles will be £100+ but worth it in the long run.
  4. The Mk23 is a great gun, and as DEF says, they are large guns which means that options for holsters are more limited. On the plus side, an adjustable Viper holster is sub £15. Being non blow back, they are gas efficient and quiet.
  5. UCAP Bunker on Wed 28 Oct - time to see how many sneeky hits I get with the TM Mk23

Those TM MK23s are pretty tidy. Got shot at close range by one on Sunday and barely heard more than a tapping sound.

Yes, they are so quiet. Advantage of non blowback and a quality suppressor. I have always been impressed when shot by one as I have never heard the shots just felt the hits. One of the reasons why I wanted to get one over the great looking TM HK45

I think the interesting thing is a lot of players don't seem to pay attention to where sounds are coming from. However when they are the MK23 changes it from "he's on the right round the next corner" to "I think someone fired somewhere ahead of us"

Most of the time though when I use my pistol it's more about that speed of moving it over the noise it makes. Although quiet guns are definitely good if you know or a site or are just generally a sneaky bugger.

  6. I appreciate that you are only 14 years old, hence the gentle responses and less sarcasm than usual. However, you really need to think about what you are asking. Members here are answering your questions and offering help so will get frustrated when it appears that you are just not paying any attention and their advice is ignored. Use the search function, read old threads, make some effort to research before just jumping in.
  7. I can recommend The Mall. It is professionally run, Luke the head marshal gives a very though safety brief and site rules, and it is a good place to learn. The marshals are friendly, enforce the safety rules, and will help newcomers. There are lots of players with a whole range of experience and knowledge who go there, and even attending solo you will get talking to other players and shown around the site. Being indoors means easier to play throughout the year, and has a multi levels and lit and unlit areas to challenge you. Being located very close to Reading station makes it a short walk to and from The Mall. I have only been on a couple of Sundays, so no idea what it is like on the Thursday evening. Many members of the forum play there, or have been, so you should get a fairly good range of views about it. Two months can seem an awful long time but it is worth it, and we all go through the same process
  8. I do not think that you have actually thought any of this through, or done any searching on the forum for previous threads or information. A sniper rifle is a specific and specialist weapon platform. A semi-auto Dedicated Marksman Rifle (DMR) has a different role. The increased fps limits of these guns incur a Minimum Engagement Distance (MED) for a simple reason, safety. Site fps limits are the maximum limit for weapon types, all based on 0.20g BB. You do not load heavier BB into your magazine at chrono to lower your fps to the site limit, that is called using a 'Hot Gun' and is against the ethics of airsoft sportsmanship (we are not here to cheat, and we take our hits) and would break the site fps rules. As for causing more pain, playing CQB with 0.20g at close range can really hurt, break the skin, cause welts, split lips, etc. So deliberately loading heavy BBs just for shits and giggles (lol) and trying to use a hot gun is both irresponsible and potentially dangerous.
  9. You may need to raise your budget though, and do not forget the extra magazines.
  10. School is out for half term, so getting the kids to do any homework or research themselves is going to be hard.
  11. ^^ Yes, moronic. Get your defence and buy a RIF (not two tone) if over 18. Do not try and find loopholes or do something potentially illegal, the rules help protect the sport and all those who want to play.
  12. Welcome. 1. Gas does not work as well at lower temperatures, science magic. UK summer is fine but winter less so. GHK G5 is probably rated as the best gbbr due to its magazine. It is difficult to measure fps, due to temperature variance. 2. Use search function on the forum, been a few recent threads on subject. Remember Wales is wet 3. Airsoft is not cheap, and there is always something that catches your eye to buy. Get site membership, added to UKARA database (not licence), start buying RIFs, enjoy the sport.
  13. The Airbourne Airsoft website could be made more user friendly www.airborne-airsoft.co.uk as I could not see the fps limits. The website has a few pictures and says CQB Blitz takes up to 40 players, payment up front when booked, and costs £30 for just 4 hours play (Sunday 01 Nov 1400-1800 hrs). The free on-site parking is useful, as the East End is pretty bad for parking. Be interesting to hear the feedback of your time there.

  15. Appears that the CEO of Talk Talk Dildo Hard has just been butt f**cked by a gang of hackers. Wonder just how secure their data was because there will be some 4 million customers worried about their information being used by criminals. Luckily I use different passwords for each on-line activity, Password1 for banking, Password2 for eBay, Password3 for Amazon, etc. And if I forget the order I just have to try a different number until I get the right one! I do hate the thought of this site getting taken down, too addicted to the quick wit, discussions and derision
  16. I will be back down in the dark tunnels of the UCAP Bunker on Wednesday 28 October. If anyone else is going that night come and say hello, and let the mayhem commence.
  17. No way. You mean I have to disregard all those great Just BB gun vids.
  18. Drone v drone combat? Why? We are airsofters. If I wanted drone fighting then I would buy a couple of RC planes and dogfight properly. I want to use my airsoft kit and take on other human targets. Agree that a drone would be a target, reminiscent of the scene in Empire Strikes Back when the recce drone is shot down on ice planet Hoth, but I digress. Using a low level drone as a target could be fun but I would rather go clay pigeon shooting. Airsoft drones that are weaponised are not a good idea, watching kinetic kills from Afghan is one thing, putting it into practice in UK could seriouly hurt someone and no doubt be outlawed under aviation legislation. Is the uplink going to be encrypted, how many control frequencies available to stop remote control being jammed or hacked.
  19. I think that Patrol Base sell box of 12 x 3000 0.25g BB for around £70-80. So 0.20g will be cheaper.
  20. Overheating and causing your eyepro to fog up. The helmet can prevent the top air vents on goggles moving heat away. Remove helmet to vent heat and help clear goggles.
  21. Think that may need a new thread. Rule #2 as long as it's hard then its safe to use
  22. I must admit that I am impressed with the video - I really like the simple spring change and look of the cylinder, and effective bolt stop on empty magazine. The real steel magazine insert is a nice touch.
