It is pretty confusing working out how it comes apart but it is simple to do. Watch this, I found it helpful:

You may have the version with the velocity reducer. I don't have it so I'm not sure how to do it, but there is something on the nozzle that reduces the power. Also try turning the hop all the way on. I think I have a 110 spring in mine and you can get them from zero one or redwolf for around £20 with shipping I think. That should give you just under 400fps in theory. I can find a link if you want.

If the magwell is further forward then it is either a maruzen type 96 or clone (mb01 etc) or the mb08 which is basically the same, just with a folding stock. However it could also be the asg 308 or double eagle m57, both of which are similar and are a bit of a combination of parts. It could also be the agm l96, which aren't made anymore and are a bit crap. I also doubt it but I think that g&g make a gas model that it could be. More pictures would definitely help.

It is certainly not illegal in terms of against the law of this country as i have one and some sites allow up to 500 fps for snipers. Looking at the ambush adventures website i gather that it is mainly cqb due to a relatively low 328 fps limit on .20g bbs. They were probably saying that it would not be allowed for use at their site. If your son really does want to start airsoft at a managed site, then it is generally said that starting with a sniper is not a great idea as to be competitave over others, they often require more money to be spent on upgrades as well as possibly being boring. Maybe not with airsoft GI though, i used to watch them more when i had only just started and learnt quite a lot. That was before the other presenter left though. I cant stand redwolf, as the guy talks really slowly and simply it just annoys me. I like gustav solin too and that hpa pistol is ridiculous. Not seen any of cafe racing but will definitely check him out. You could try sniping. You don't really need to run, just as long as you can walk to a good position

I have used the l96 for a day and while it does need upgrades, it wasn't bad OOTB. Make sure you are using decent heavy bbs, have your hop set perfectly and zero your sights well and then see if you enjoy sniping enough to spend more money on upgrades. As for upgrades there are plenty out there for the l96, however i am not sure about the other one.
