  1. OK, might try oiling the tube so the epoxy doesn't adhere. That way I get the look of brass but can remove it when actually using it. The Brass tube will also prevent damage to the epoxy from the brass oil bottle that's also kept in the stock.
  2. I would need a 65 cm or longer cleaning rod. The metal isn't dragged through the barrel, it's just a weight to thread the string through the barrel. You would then pull the string through with the alcohol swab or piece of cloth on the end. I was going to use Brass as it would then look like the real steel cleaning kit, kept in the hole in the stock, which is a lot simpler than carting a 65cm cleaning rod around, if I could find one.
  3. http://www.onlybbguns.co.uk/hfc-hg-302-mk23-airsoft-gas-pistol.html?filter_name=mk23#.VAAb3sVdX4Y I have one of these, they are pretty good. It chronos around 335 with a 0.2g bb and is pretty accurate. No blowback on it though and it's pretty big if you have small hands.
  4. I would avoid the paintball mask and go for a pair of mesh goggles and a mesh lower face mask. Mesh doesn't fog up and if you get thirsty, you cannot drink in a full face mask. Also it looks like it would reduce headwear options. Take a look at some cheap camo gear here: http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/shop/special-offers.html A good way to start is a set of DPM, boonie hat, gloves, a scrim scarf or shemagh (to protect your neck), good boots and a cheap tactical vest. This is how I started, but these days I go for a more old school look I do mainly WW2 gear now and I have to say that Webbing seems to be rather underappreciated in airsoft circles. Webbing is a very viable alternative to the tactical vest. A set of '58 pattern webbing will cost around £10-15 and will carry everything a tactical vest will but won't act as an additional layer of clothing to make you hot. '58 pattern seems to be the cheapest at present, newer PLCE stuff would cost £25+ and my '37 pattern webbing cost me £30. If you want the benefits of both, consider a molle belt and support straps or a simple chest rig.
  5. 5.5mm brass tubing - This is for the manufacture of a brass pull through for my SMLE. Plan is to cut a length and fill it with epoxy and embed the end of a length of string. This is instead of having a cleaning rod. The idea is that you use the brass weight to pull the string through the barrel and the end of the string has a small loop so you can then pull a piece of rag through the barrel to clean it. Brass coloured metallic Humbrol Enamel - to add weathering and detail to my scope so it looks more correct. Also to paint the end of the pull through so the epoxy doesn't show.
  6. My personal Favourite is the Aussie slouch hat. It's great on sunny days, doesn't get too hot and is good protection from rain. It also looks really cool.
  7. For practicality, Boonies are probably the best hat. They are reasonable protection from being shot in the head and break up the silhouette of your head well.
  8. Don't rush into it. Takes a bit of work to get it working correctly, I have fixed the leaks on the mag, adjusted the firing pin spring tension to get more consistent shooting and just need to get the fill valve working better. Soo much fun to shoot though and the 15" bayonet I have for it raises a few eyebrows. I have skirmished it once, comments from my team indicate that when I did a bayonet charge, it scared the crap out of them (the actual comment was, 'we actually thought you were going to kill someone'). Still at £245 delivered, including tax and customs fees its a real bargain.
  9. Grr, got a sunday off and its a week where the options are Black ops cribbs or the courthouse. Would bother to get outta bed for Spartan or Black ops portishead.

I'm guessing spartan airsoft Is good then? :)

Didn't I say so on your comment? The Courthouse (Bristol airsoft) is fun, but gets boring after a while. Black ops cribbs is too paintbally. Black ops Portishead is good but actually gets used for paintball so you get covered in paint. Spartan is a great site, they only open every other week, so it never seems to be when I have a day off :(

Well hopefully I'll be going there soon! ;)

  10. Iron Airsoft Lee Enfield No. 1 MkIII* Reason: Just look at it!! I got told off by a marshall on my last skirmish 'cos my gun was too pretty to skirmish with. I took Matilda (my one of these) to a re-enactment event, even re-enactors were in awe.
  11. The OP asked about quality guns he could use for airsoft. The ASG doesn't come with the LAM unit, which you would want if you want to be accurate to the game. If you're dressed up, it should be no problem. A week ago, I spent a day wondering around Lacock village pointing rifles at tourists. It was part of an event called Lacock at war and I was with a group of re-enactors. If you're cosplaying at a convention, its to be expected that you would carry weapons in the same way that you would expect re-enactors to do the same. As long as you have them in a bag when travelling to and from the event. I travel by train carrying a rifle in a bag quite a lot, you cannot hide the fact that its a rifle. The interesting part is that the 15 inch bayonet which is not in a bag only gets queried when I get to an airsoft site (it's rubber but looks good enough that I have to bend it for the marshalls to see). Years ago (when I lived in Aberdeen), I arrived in Glasgow on a match day by train. The police were searching everyone for hidden weapons etc. The guy I saw who got off a train in full clansman getup carrying a wooden shield and huge claymore got waved straight through. If you carry a small pocket knife without a valid reason, the police will come down on you like a ton of bricks. If you are in the relevant costume (in my case full WW2 gear), then they don't even have to think about whether you have a valid reason.
  12. Well the TM Mk23 socom is a really good gun, great for CQB as it is very quiet and accurate. There is a cheaper ASG version which is also quite good but not as quiet, unfortunately it doesn't come with the LAM module.
  13. ...until someone shoots that tiny bit of flesh on your cheek that is poking out
  14. http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid One important point. If you are new to airsoft, will you have UKARA sorted out in time? 15. Cheapest place for some DPM is britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/shop/special-offers/soldier-95-deal-grade-1-1124095.html
  16. No idea, I use a thicker silicon gun oil. Mainly so I can store it in a WW2 brass oil bottle that fits into the stock for storage
  17. FPS will depend upon the following factors: Gas pressure (depends on the temperature) Release valve: Stronger spring means it will depress less lowering fps, it may also be stiffer at the beginning of the day. Keep it well lubed. Hammer/firing pin or whatever you want to call it: Keep it well lubed as how hard it hits the release valve will also affect fps. I am fortunate in that my gas powered SMLE is bolt action and therefore a lot simpler, but it was very inconsistent out of the box. In fact it was so inconsistent that sometimes it wouldn't shoot if it was too warm as the gas pressure would prevent the firing pin from depressing the release valve enough. The solution was to add washers to the spring on the firing pin so that the release valve is hit much harder. This increases the fps and at the same time makes for greater consistency.
  18. The other option would be the MP5SD. The battery space is much better in the MP5SD handguard.
  19. Only the Top tech G&G has the collapsible stock, with one of those you should do well. Nice to see someone go for something other than an M4 Welcome to the forums.
  20. My sten mid caps with stock spring would have sprayed .25 bb's far enough to hit the camera. I think the mag he was using in that video is just a useless mag.
  21. Green or Brown work okay. Unless you're a patient sneaky bastard, movement will give you away long before the lack of camo will.
  22. M14's use a slightly different gearbox and in my experience they just seem to be much more accurate at long range. My Sten has an M14 gearbox and the performance it has is amazing. The problem with M4's is that its too easy to add crap you don't need onto the rail system. Lasers are pointless, torches are for CQB in the dark (where you are better off with the MP5K). Keep it simple and classy, nice M14 with a wooden stock and either a red dot or scope... Theres a bit of overlap between what an MP5K can do and what an M4 can do. An M14 will cover a wider range of play styles, offering more variation. You can do a bit of DMR style sniping, regular spray and pray or switch to the MP5K for a bit of CQB.
  23. Swindon Airsoft has a shop and a site. They may be willing to let you buy a gun and use it but not take it home until you sort out UKARA? Might be worth asking them.
  24. They may have molle, but if it's a belt with supporting shoulder straps, that makes it webbing. I think I may have had some sort of point to make, that webbing doesn't always mean uncomfortable ill fitting, rubbing stuff?
  25. I agree that the G&G combat machine range is good. Couple of other ideas though: If you currently have an MP5K, what about an MP5? That way you can use the same magazines and everything will be where you are used to finding it (fire selector etc). http://www.proairsoftsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/gen_2_tgm_q6.html#SID=37 http://www.proairsoftsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/gen_2_tgm_a5_retractble.html#SID=37 The G&G top tech ones come fully upgraded internally or theres a combat machine version. JG, Classic army etc all make very similar quality ones at reasonable prices which you can customise to your needs. ICS MP5's are pretty good, the downside is they are a bit picky about which mags they will work with. My other idea was maybe an M14? You have an MP5K for close quarters, why not get a proper rifle?
