  1. ^^The CYMA AK will be either CM.042 or CM.046 being blowback - i forget which. But the CM.028 is the bog standard plastic receiver faux wood plastic furniture version, although the internals are pretty much the same, apart from the blowback attachment from the piston to the bolt carrier...
  2. Thanks to Mr. B for the heads up - just bought 2 x railed top covers for AK's from Patrolbase - £26.93 posted. Bottledtorment is making me one for the franken-AK project i started ages ago, but I thought i'd get a couple of these for future projects before they go OOS again...
  3. Nice. G&P furniture kit? What is the base gun? If you decide to get rid of the top cover, let me know... I'd offer you a good price.
  4. The Silverback PP-19 Bizon 2 I have is a great gun - compact, but not in a way that obliges those with long arms to scrunch them up to shoulder it. The only problem with it is getting used to the mag change - it requires you to fit the hooks on the end of the mag onto twin bars under the front sight pillar, which is fiddly so not easy to do quickly and, so far, impossible without looking at it. The mags make the release catch pretty stiff too, so I have to press the catch to make sure it locks in place, which also makes it a little more difficult than most mags to remove, but i'm disinclined to shave any more off their pegs in case being looser stops them feeding properly. I would have liked to fit a steel extended magazine catch, like this LCT one: ...but the stock trigger guard is riveted in place. Which left the only option being one of those bolt on types, so I bought a polymer one from khmountain_uk on fleabay which was only £5.99 posted... ...so no great loss if it turned out to be useless. As it turned out it seems to have been made for catches longer than the average you find on AK's, but certainly longer than on my Bizon. There is a 3rd grubscrew which you can't see in that pic, which tightens against the opposite side of the catch, if the catch reaches it, which mine doesn't. It is the way that they tighten against each side which keeps the thing from falling off, so I was worried that that indeed is what would happen to it. To cut a long story short then, I am hoping that this piece of metal which I Dremmeled up from an old PC blanking plate will do the trick: ...ignore the label, it's just to get my phone camera to focus. And a gratuitous whole gun on camo pic: ...just because
  5. There is a Hephaestus one which is made for GHK GBBR's (not that that would make any difference when fitting it to an AEG barrel) but it is not 20mm, 22mm iirc, so best measure it yourself. I had one made for my ICS AKS-74U by Dave's Custom Whahoojimaflibbet - Dave Taylor (find him on fb). He's by no means cheap but the finished piece of steel is extremely robust.
  6. Just bought a PKA red dot for AK's from ebairsoft - $78.00 posted. I'll put it on my PP-19 Bizon 2. T'other day I bought a 2nd Prometheus purple (soft) hop rubber because even though it's new and unopened it was going in an auction from a non-airsoft seller on ebay - got it for $14.50 posted.
  7. A few people have asked about red dot sights for AK's and all I was able to say was that they are out of stock. Well, ebairsoft have PKA's in again here. I have bought stuff from eb before - only had a problem once, and while their customer service was not brilliant, they did give me my money back eventually.
  8. ^^I'm just going off the pic on Kryptek's webby - yeah Yeti is whiter, but Raid is still very pale.
  9. Yeah, an h-nub will improve accuracy with any rubber - bloke i went to Bluestreak with this weekend was using one with a G&G green rubber and getting good results / i have that same set up in my AKS-47, but the benefit of a really sticky rubber like the Prometheus Purple (soft) is that it takes very little hop on to achieve the backspin needed for the hop effect, so applying hop does not reduce FPS as much as with a harder rubber. I have yet to try those 40 degree rubbers which ehobbyasia have had listed for a while, but i suspect they may be a viable but cheaper solution...
  10. Generally speaking a TBB is for power, not accuracy, but some barrels do improve accuracy because their inner polish is so good that whatever stability you gain from your hop set up is not lost as the BB travels down the barrel. So for eg, a Raven 6.05mm is a TBB, compared to a standard 6.08mm barrel, but it would increase accuracy also, especially if you get an H-nub, or RA-Tech hop cushion, and a good rubber like a Prometheus Purple (soft). I've also recently been quite impressed by Maple Leaf 60 degree Monster Hop Bucking, but you cannot combine those with a specialised nub and I'm not convinced they are better than the combination of soft sticky rubber and centering nub.
  11. To me Raid is snow camo and Typhon is for night games, but I just couldn't resist taking my mixed bag for an outing during the day - it was hanging on the back of my kitchen door crooning to me: "wear me, wear me - you know you want to..."

  13. Nah, I don't. If she was a PKM or anything with a fat calibre than yeah... ...but 5.45x39mm? Just wouldn't feel right. I mean, I'm not going full purist, but putting something that looks like a scaled down artillery muzzle on an LMG feels like putting an EOTech on a pistol. And yeah, I know people have done it and may they be happy as larks... pillarks! BTW, I'm calling her "Raisa".
  14. ^^I love the whole dad/son thing in airsoft. I mean, my old git wouldn't have gone in for it even if airsoft had existed back in the day, because he was as tight as a duck's arse under water, and perhaps that's why it prods me in the soppy, but yeah, whatever... it must be great to work together tactically and to face 'danger' together, even though it is simulated. Although shit, hits can and do hurt so it's not all make believe
  15. I'm sorting out Joel's G36 and it's an Ares - I bent the tiny trigger gubbin* spring, not the return spring, in a close-to-terminal fashion - I dunno if a V3 set will have one the right size and the V2 set one looks smaller, so I went for both. Whatever ends up being spare will come in handy one day I'm sure - I have half a mind to build an MP5 or perhaps a mutant 416 from boneyard bits for the V2 learning experience. Having said that, Bottledtorment can attest to the fact that I have a way to go before I could seriously offer my tech skillz as a commercial proposition and I have a fair few projects already on the go and/or old guns in bits which I should be getting on with. That's the reason for a few of those bits above - get some old guns up to scratch... but also i want to test Maple Leaf rubbers side by side against Prometheus Purple soft and also see how the ML 50' compares to the 60' Oops, forgot the asterisk again... *Gubbin, singular of gubbins (now)
  16. Still haven't thought of a name for her, but here's my new RPK: That's a CYMA Zenit clone dovetail mount holding the Elcan clone on. Not bad for £25 posted - I expect the paint and trades to wear off easier than they would on an LCT clone or the Asura Dynamics offering, but the strength and robustness seem to be adequate to any use to which I'll be subjecting it. The pistol grip is made by APS and feels more comfortable in my hand than the usual AK ergonomic grip. In the fullness of time she'll be getting an RIS, very possibly the Asura Dynamics clone Zenitka B10, but at £66-odd posted it will be at least a few weeks before I order that. I'm considering making a perforated steel heatshield to replace the upper handguard, but I'm not sure I can do the metalwork to a satisfactory standard myself... however, there's always my engineering student mate... Anyone got any suggestions for a flash hider (standard 14mm CCW)? I'm inclined to swerve the usual hexagonal design fashion everyone is going with on their modern AK's these days...
  17. Nice one, Chris - I didn't think to put my "I WILL NOT KEEP CALM..." patch on my helmet yesterday and didn't have room for it on my BDU so left it @home - along with a lot of other stuff by accident, like gloves, heavy BB's, free game voucher, etc... basically to be on time i had to get out of the door still wet from the shower with whatever was lurking close to my bergen Had a thought earlier - maybe i should have had those patches made in green? Maybe I should try to get another batch made, but in green? Oops, forgot why i came here going 'kin senile me! 18. Yeah, the issue with the durability of the materials used to make barrels is not how strong they are really - i mean if you abuse your gun so much that the inner barrel is in danger of being bent, there are many more expensive parts which will fail first so you'd have bigger fish to fry. The issue is how well the inner surface withstands normal wear from BB's being fired through it and the unpredictable effect of dust particulates abrading it, plus the potential for scratches when you clean the barrel as dust particulates get trapped by your cleaning wad and dragged up and down the barrel as you work it up and down with your cleaning rod. Chrome plating produces the hardest inner surface, followed by stainless steel, then coated aluminium, brass, aluminium, copper.
  19. Oops, what I mean is maybe you should email 'em back now
  20. Well, I gave them the url for this thread a just now, so maybe now they know you have a problem they'll change their tune lol! I expect that it was something simple like someone opened the email then got distracted and never remembered to open it again to see what it was about. I mean, it seems unlikely that they would be really good to one person and ignorant bellends to another on purpose!
  21. I've recently bought a few Maple Leaf hop rubbers from them and just today discovered one has the tiniest malformation on the inside of the lips - very tiny, but nonetheless it causes jams. I emailed them including the best of a bunch of crappy phone pics. In fact, rather than try to explain how bad the photo is and how difficult to see the problem, i'll just stick it up here: Just had an email back from them saying that they will send me a replacement tomorrow - no need to send the knackered one back. That's what i call good customer service. I can't blame them for not noticing the problem before sending it out to me - I didn't notice the problem when i fitted it; it was only after the gun jammed when i tested it and i went back in looking for a problem that i spotted it and even then i wasn't certain until i compared it to another one I had spare waiting for the RPK I've just bought. So yeah, I can't recommend them enough. At £8 each for the Maple Leaf Monster Hop Rubber for AEG 60 Deg and £2.55 for Signed For postage, their prices are also very good. I haven't skirmished the new rubber yet, but the limited test firing I've been able to do leads me to believe their reputation is deserved.
  22. It was very nice until the last time i rebuilt it and it got jammed on semi-auto only. For the life of me i couldn't work out what the problem was and she's been sat in a crate dismantled for a couple of months now! I just haven't got round to sorting her out - other projects have taken up what time my illhealth has left me available for tinkering... My primary reason for doing it the way i did was to use high voltage to get fast trigger response, particularly in the initial milliseconds after trigger pull, but I didn't want a really high ROF, because it's just a waste of BB's and, unless you do go for the 30+ per second builds which are genuinely intimidating to face, you don't actually get any advantage in game. I'm not sure that the intimidation factor is worth the hassle of constantly breaking down/wearing out parts... Of course a heavier piston and piston head affect trigger response too, in as much as more weight = more inertia to overcome when the motor begins to turn, but in the first few milliseconds the motor draws a lot more current than during the rest of the cycle anyway and it is this, the ability of the electrical system to deliver current quickly, which is the primary limiting factor, regardless of the weight of the piston+head. This is why I also choose Turnigy Nano Tech batteries, since their sustained current delivery is 25C but their burst output is 50C. I'm about to do a similar thing to an RPK which is due to arrive tomorrow, but this time i am going to use a BW3 MOSFET and modify the gearbox for a pretty fast cycle rate, but then program the MOSFET to make the ROF similar to the real steel. It also can be programmed to pre-cock, for instant trigger response. The reason i still want a fast cycle rate, even though that will no longer be necessary for fast trigger response, is because the way the BW3 changes the ROF is to introduce a timed delay between the shots when full-auto is selected, so it's like a series of semi-auto shots fired very quickly one after another. Apparently it sounds really cool: stuttery like real steel rather than like a sewing machine
  23. If you get silver plated lo-res wiring with the switch, may as well use it. 14AWG is probably a fraction better, but it does introduce a few problems due to getting jammed in the spaces available for wiring. 16AWG is good enough, IMO, but as i just said, lo-res is lo-res, so if you have it, may as well use it.
