I thought the downsides outweighed the positives, so I went with a 9.9V LiFe instead.  At the time I wasn’t comfortable with the low voltage puffing or the risk of fire, and with LiFe both are reduced.

ICS is a nice way to go for L85’s if you can live with the weird trigger switch.  I’ve done lots to mine, but if I had a proper look in the mirror all it really needed was the Warhead motor, English Kiwi Hop, and a spring.  It runs a V2 gearbox for bits so they’re easy to get hold of.

I had a Star L85 which I absolutely loved, but I wore the thing out with about 250k rounds through it and a new ICS was cheaper than a complete overhaul of the Star (now Ares).  The only issues I had with the Star in all of it’s time was a tappet plate and a motor, both of which I expect to go with that amount of use and abuse.

If I could do anything I’d go back and make myself buy the expensive things once, rather than the cheaper version before then buying the expensive thing.  The old adage of ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ is definitely true and if I had just committed first time round I’d probably have saved 30% in the long run.

As has been said before, decent eyepro and decent footwear is a must and the amount of money spent is directly proportionate to the comfort and utility.

Carry an IFAK, and definitely make sure it’s got burn gel in it!

A proper kydex or Safariland holster on a UBL is infinitely better than anything on a drop-leg rig.  Universal holsters are universally average.

Oh, and buy the proper Odin Speedloader not the knock-offs.

I also changed the motor to a Warhead Black (Standard) which did wonders for battery life and trigger response, as the standard motors very thirsty and not the fastest.

I probably get through about 2000-3000 rounds in a day, and I’ve never had the battery drop below 50%.

    ^absolutely agree

You can’t go wrong with Revision; they’re rated to stop a shotgun so they’ll be fine for anything we go against.

That’s my setup above.  They’re Revision Sawfly’s with the clear lenses over the prescription insert.  The lenses are extremely well made so don’t have any distortion.  The helmet is a PTS MTEK Flux, and there’s adequate room for the mesh mask to not cover the mic’s on the hearing protection.

Whilst there’s a tiny gap in skin protection on my forehead, the chances of getting hit there instead of the rest of me are minimal so I’m happy with the reduced risk.

From personal use, I'd go Source over Camelbak, I've popped a camelbak and not a source one yet.

I personally don't pew with a Bladder on. I just leave a bag full of my admin at re-gen.

My gripe with bladders is I feel they promote over hydration, and running the risk of flushing the body of salts etc. It can be a fine balance but half a litre per hour of 'arduous' activity is sufficient. With bottles you get the benefit of filling one with an electrolyte for later in the day games to keep you going. Sorry for the lecture, just my 2 cents.

Given the ending of my current work contract, and a possible period of being a bit skint, I thought I'd invest wisely, so to add to my 5000 0.20g for plinking and test-firing...

10KG of Warhead 0.28g Bio BBs, should see my running through a good few skirmishes (especially if I turn the fun switch to semi, a bit more often)
£105 inc next day delivery.  Just over a tenner for each bag of ~3,500 BBs seems like a good deal to me.

Ultrair doesn’t have any lube in it so it’s good for hop consistency.  I’ve used it in freezing conditions in the MP7 without issue, though in pistols it’s definitely a 10°C or higher gas

I realise it doesn’t answer your question directly, but if you’re looking for recommendations for a decent sight as a replacement you can do far worse than a Holosun 403B.  I’ve got one on the MP7 and it’s had about 3000 rounds through it without skipping a beat.

It’s been used in 35° heat and -5° cold without issue, and it’s been clattered off walls in CQB.  I’d definitely recommend a front lens protector though as having it shot out is an expensive day!

Being a proper optic there’s no parallax so if you’ve got something capable of accuracy and consistency the shot will land where you put the dot regardless of whether you can have the perfect cheek weld or not.  Between that and the MP7 I was able to consistently shoot helmets and hands peeking round doors at 15m (perfect for CQB ranges), but also through slim gaps and tight angles.

I saw one in the classifieds recently for about £150 which is okay, but they’re £180 new so the warranty might be worth the extra?

A Flatline Fibre Mini Dump Pouch.  It attaches under a molle pouch so you can save space on the belt.
