The 'What have you just bought' Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I picked up a new battle harness recently. so changed from a black Viper Skeleton harness to the Viper Battle Harness in multicam. And during Black Friday I spotted some big discounts on the Novritsch (sorry) modular suppressor and one of the rifle camo covers. The cover was so cheap I thought I'd see what it was like... not bad I think - it certainly breaks up 'black slab' of the top half of the gun -
Actually you can buy hop rubbers off eBay... like this... complete with Omega nub https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322773517760?hash=item4b26cd05c0:g:nxwAAOSw-31adg5J (disclaimer: I don't know whether this particular one is good for your gun but it's what I've been recommended for my M4)
-
Yeah it seems ok after a 'proper' charge. Phew! There's now a noticeable difference between the 7.4v and 11.1v, as expected. I'm a bit too busy to do the video now.
-
Oh bejeezus... I've been charging my Li-Po with the selector switch set to Li-Fe. Have I buggered it?
-
Do please bear in mind that the 11.1v is right down near storage-level charge... ~10.5v total, ~3.50v per cell I suspect that'll be the real reason...? I'm bunging one on charge now, I'll re-test and re-upload at lunch.
-
Did you watch my videos? How's yours compare to mine? HPA is ridonculousness, can't compare with that!
-
I made a terrible boo-boo... I said 'Ricochet' when I should have said 'Crossfire' *That* is the greatest thing ever. Will you ever forgive me???

Are these guns a stupid idea
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
@MandalShArK That's a fine loadout! @BigStew Which AK did you get? I do love the idea of a metal + wood/polymer AK at some point (i.e. if my TM AK dies) -
Ok, as it's lunchtime I've picked up my guns and connected the batteries in, and I have to say the DE doesn't sound nearly as sluggish as before. Maybe it was just too damned cold from a day's skirmishing, and hadn't fully warmed up when I test dry-fired it in the house. I've made videos of the DE running on both the fully-charged Titan 7.4v Li-Ion, and the probably-almost-empty Turnigy 11.1v Li-Po See what you think... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-xsDy7hO-M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vssqdmNKVIA (Not much difference in the RoF between the two batteries to my ear, that 11.1v needs a full charge and I'll maybe re-upload it) and for comparison my Classic Army M16 (which might have been upgraded a gazillion years ago) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpU5RuvkxeA

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger
RostokMcSpoons replied to mightyjebus's topic in AEG/GBBR Reviews
@Fatboy40 please please please either video / take pics / make notes as you do the gearbox tear-down, as I might be following in your footsteps shortly, and I'm less 'excited' and more 'nervous' -
I haven't done any of my famously wonderful soldering on the M906, so I don't think the connection to the battery is a problem. The battery is working fine with the other guns. I could retry one of my other Li-Po's but they're at storage charge levels at the moment. The gun does sound a noisier than the other guns - perhaps it needs some shimming. Opening up the gearbox is not something I really want to try because I'll probably end up with a bunch of parts and insufficient skills to put them back together properly (as happened with my AK) I will make a slight adjustment to the motor height from the pistol grip baseplate, see if that changes anything, as that's a simple thing to try!

Are these guns a stupid idea

An update as I found Dave's custom airsoft has the Snow Wolf AUG at a much better price and it's in stock (well, they'll let you order it and it'll turn up within a couple of weeks...) https://www.davescustomairsoft.co.uk/sw-020t-aug-aeg-olive?search=aug £124 The Cybergun F2000 is there for the same price as elsewhere, £180 https://www.davescustomairsoft.co.uk/fn-f2000-assault-rifle-replica-tan?search=f2000 They've also got the Ares shorty L85 with SUSAT for a somewhat tempting £340. (I really would prefer the classic full-length L85, but the SUSAT is worth a fair bit on its own, and the shorty look I am definitely up for, with other guns at least) https://www.davescustomairsoft.co.uk/l85-afv-subcarbine-replica?search=l85 As I'm going to really annoy my wife by asking for airsoft kit for Xmas it'll come down to either the AUG or a TM GBB pistol I suspect the pistol to be honest... my AK is running well but I've not swapped away from my M4 as yet. -
Yes, all on the Titan 7.4v Li-Ion.

Ok, next thing is my rate of fire does feel really chuggy when I'm dry-firing it. I'm comparing it to my CA M16 which quite frankly sounds like it's got a mad RoF on a LiPo since m'Tech did his servicing on it, but my TM AK47 (also serviced) is noticeably faster too. Maybe Jake and I are both being afflicted by the same problem, though mine has take a bit longer to become noticeably poor. If the whole thing was under-lubed to start with and has dried out after a few games that might be an issue...? Or is that a bit of a reach? Or is it another sign of a weak spring? To be honest I'd have thought weak spring = higher RoF, not lower, but I'm willing to hear opinions. Could the motor need raising / lowering? A worst case scenario popped into my head - could my gears have lost some teeth?

I'm still waiting on my chrono to turn up, but it's in the UK so shouldn't be long. Then I'll be able to show some 'before' figures. see what it's like with 0.20s and no hop, and with 0.28's both hopped and not. I'll order an M100 spring now, so hopefully I can swap it over in short order and get some 'after' figures quickly too. Honestly the only time I actively felt out-ranged by a non-sniper on Sunday was when I was up against one of the two HPA players. Hey, maybe my tactical movement and fieldcraft is so brilliant I got so close I didn't need range I'd had plenty of time on the range to get my hop nicely dialled in before play... I was getting the most out of what it had to give. I was hitting the small metal "40m" sign quite easily, I guess I kept my engagements to that sort of distance. (Which reminds me, you may remember me talking about one of my first games where I used my old M16 and the tech found it wasn't applying any hop..? I got some 'disbelief' when I said I was getting ranged kills with that. Turns out it was shooting rather hot - I'd missed the chronoing session as I'd arrived late and with my kit in a shambles... so it was running quite a bit above the AEG limit. ? Luckily (for the poor buggers I was hitting) it was misfeeding on full auto so I was only using it on semi anyway.) edit: While I'm ordering stuff... any recommendation on the hop rubber and nub? As the current setup is lifting 0.30s ok, then it's not strictly necessary... but I'm paying a few quid postage so might as well make it all worthwhile

Cheers. It does seem that TM are quite resilient, certainly compared to my HFC. -

Thanks @Adolf Hamster I hadn't realised CO2 suffered badly like that as well... better than green gas but still not great That really kills off any thought of buying that new mag. TM Hi Capa still on my chrimbo list though # Edit: Awwwww crap I keep saying Hi Capa when I now probably mean a TM M45A1 ... the new tactical 1911 with the 15mm BBU in it. The only problems with that gun are: the price at places that actually hold stock (~£160 upwards), and the grips which I just don't like the look of. -
Awww that's cool. And reminded me of my toy gun collection... A Mauser 98-style rifle with a working bolt and dummy cartridges that it could eject. That was so cool that when I started to outgrow it I cut off the butt plate and made a wooden extension for it. An SLR that fired little grey plastic bullets (Airfix again! Mine was all black but here's the wooden stock version, surprisingly realistic looking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFye5s3qrlc) I pestered my dad into making me a Sten and an Mp40 too. As he was good at woodwork and DIY they came out very well Three plastic kit replica pistols from either Tamiya or LS, they were 1:1 scale... I had a .25 ACP auto, a Python .357 Magnum and a P38. All with dummy bullets and working actions. They must have been quite sturdy as I can't remember them breaking to the point I couldn't glue them back together. Blimey, what goes around comes around... regressing back to childhood... well over 50 years old and playing with toy guns again

Loki, if you're not aware, CO2 works fine on all weather, whereas the normal green gas pistols terms to perform very badly once it gets below 6C. Like mine ? CO2 is more expensive to run, which is why green gas is a little more popular. But I've got no experience with them so I'll shut up ?. I might buy a CO2 magazine for my M9, though I've been advised it'll kill my gun quickly. There's also the option for an electric pistol, but without the power of gas, and the absence of blowback action, it's a much less exciting experience... Good if you want a secondary that is the cheapest to run and will almost always work though! That nighthawk does look very nice. But.. out of stock -
I vaguely do, but not even my rich cousin had that! He had Ricochet which was my most favourite thing ever Slightly more related to pew-pewing, I really wanted Tin Pan Alley. I didn't get that, I ended up with two proper air rifles and eventually a .22 rimfire target rifle. So swings and roundabouts ?

Oh yeah sorry I forgot about that advice... Some nice modern looking guns in that selection too. I had a thread about Army Armaments Vs TM Hi-capa which covered some of those -

I've got an HFC M9 which is quite nice to hold and fire but it's useless in the Great Outdoors at this time of the year. After a couple of shots the slide doesn't cycle hard enough and eventually it just de-gases this may be common to most gas blowback pistols at this time of year though. Certainly seen others do it too It doesn't seem to take gas as well as it did when it was new so the seals in the mag aren't very resilient, but have come back to life a bit once I sprayed some silicon through it and learned to keep gas in the magazine all the time. In conclusion, save up for a Tokyo marui 5.1 hi capa, £130 and it'll be as good as a gbb pistol can be... Or so I'm told ☺️ -
