  1. Yeah it's always struck me as super-easy to piss someone off with a high p&p cost. Amazon have made a whole business (Prime) out of selling us the ability to get things 'fast and free' because it makes the purchase so painless. Of course we've paid £70 (or whatever it is these days) up-front for the privilege, but damn, it works. Human psychology is a blunder-ful thing! You can see some higher unit prices on eBay too, but again they'll often capture my business even if the total is the same or slightly lower, along with the 'free p&p' wording. Ant Supplies will always get business from me because they'll do anything p&p included, though I feel guilty when I'm buying cheap stuff and the costs must surely be destroying their profit margin. One day I'll buy something more substantial, just to assuage my guilt! Anyway - JD's charge of £11 for my F2000 and 18,000 BB's and other bits'n'bobs in a hefty box was fair.
  2. Ah, sorry Roger if I didn't make myself clear, it's being anti-mask as well as anti-vax that I have an issue with. I appreciate your point regarding the vaccines is fair and valid especially given the new strain breaking through the immunity. For the previous strains we knew it was never 100% but still demonstrably doing a good job in reducing infections. If everyone in the UK had got their jabs done, it wouldn't have stopped Omicron from appearing - that's a failure of the SA govt and the international community.
  3. I'll take another look at the hop system, once I've done my Xmas shopping ;D The fps min max is pretty stable now, especially with the 0.25's and hop applied, the last few shots were 302.3 301.5 301.3 302.6 (Unfortunately all the rest of the shots on my chrono history are a different gun, but I remember the other ones were all around 300-302 as well)
  4. It's 'only' an inch and a bit off, but given how solidly the gun goes together I wasn't expecting anything to shift to spoil the windage zero. Which is why I suspected the hop. I think I'll put my old 4x32 scope on the gun (something I could have tried before) to see if I can spot any deviation at the last moment - there was nothing obvious with the trajectory to me looking through the Kobra sight (but I do have crap eyesight with these specs!). Edit: Just tried the scope, so I can clearly see most of the shots are good, but with a few curving either way, with more to the right than to the left when they do curve.
  5. Yeah, but it's not 'the sniffles' is it ? At worst, it kills people. Imagine if Al-Qaida was killing 150 people per day (last figure I've seen for daily COVID deaths in the UK) and people sat around saying "I don't want anything done to stop it", perhaps even more pertinently "I won't do anything to stop, even though I could help". How much respect would you have for those people? Maybe you've not lost anyone close to you so let's make it more relatable. I've got friends I play football with who caught it before their jabs, and they could still hear the scar tissue in their lungs crackle months afterwards. I had it, and even with the harshest edges of it knocked off by my two jabs, it was a pretty crappy week. That's not the worst of it for me though. I've lost a big percentage of my senses of taste and smell. Maybe permanently. Same for my wife and daughter. Losing your ability to fully enjoy steaks, curries, beer, wine and all the other good things that usually make life enjoyable - that's really shit. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. When a normally delicious curry becomes an exercise in swallowing a load of pencil erasers in a tasteless liquid, and you wash it down with a beer that might as well be water, you will not be a happy bunny, guaranteed. This is just an example as the senses thing is obviously towards at the 'best case' / 'inconvenient' end of the spectrum of outcomes. If you're happy for others to suffer because of 'personal freedoms', then... words fail me. Rebuttal to your one study, a meta-study published in the British Medical Journal: https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj-2021-068302 "Results from more than 30 studies from around the world were analysed in detail, showing a statistically significant 53% reduction in the incidence of Covid with mask wearing" I absolutely don't want to get into an argument over this, I don't suppose any of us will change our mindsets (for better, or for worse). Also with the Omicron variant the whole battlefield is shifting beneath our feet, the scientists are unsure of the longer-term outcomes, maybe we'll all end up catching an essentially harmless COVID that grants herd-immunity in the future. That's probably ridiculously wishful-thinking, but there's certainly a possibility the way we approach the disease will change. It may just be so infectious that we can't dodge it, masks or not.
  6. Quick accuracy test this morning... new spring, bucking and nub Not quite got everything dialled in by the looks of things... and maybe the rubber still has some silicone oil on it (from the cylinder/nozzle), though it does appear to be applying hop successfully. Accuracy test with cheapo BB Kings 0.25g Bio BB's, 15m measured, fired from room @ 19-20C, 7C ambient temp outside, no wind, bench rest, Kobra red dot, approx 30 shots Chrono'd at 345fps with 0.20g (with hop applied), 300fps with 0.25g The main cluster is tighter, but the slightly larger and much clearer aiming mark I've used may have helped with that... so inconclusive (or no real change) (Also tried a mag ostensibly full of 0.28g BBs loaded up at my last game, but it chrono'd at the same 300fps so I'm thinking it was the same ammo. Same result too - big cluster at top-right with a few flyers, some of them quite wild) Is the fact I'm now grouping slightly further to the right an indication I've not quite got my barrel rotated with the nub at TDC? Is that possible?
  7. Having searched for JD Airsoft in these forums, and finding a bunch of negative comments regarding their comms, I thought it fair to let you know how my experience went: TLDR; It went well I emailed them with a question about the battery compartment in the morning, got a reply within an hour from their sales chap Nathan. I went ahead and bought a gun and some BBs late in the afternoon. Overnight I realised I needed some extra bits and pieces, so emailed again, asking if both the orders could be dispatched under one p&p. Got a quick affirmative reply in the morning - raised a new order, and as directed set it to 'collection' to avoid the delivery charge (Here's the slightly disappointing wrinkle...) Checked the website later. The second order showed as 'dispatched', the first showed as 'preparing'. After a day with no change I emailed them to ask for a progress report... (And back to the good stuff...) Literally-actually-really-truthfully! within 3 minutes of sending that email, the UPS chap turned up. So they don't update their website order tracking very well (or maybe my order-merge wasn't something they could cope with. Also they sent emails acknowledging the first order, but not the second, then two WorldPay transaction messages. There was no email on dispatch. All in all, would order from them again. I think the minimum delivery charge is £10 which is a tiny bit steep, but the customer service was good, and the delivery was on time. Shame the comms didn't work perfectly but maybe that's down to my second order. I'd use them again.
  8. Yeah I was using Geoff's when I first came back to skirmishing because I remember having problems with my AK's tight-bore barrel with cheap ammo. I've now tried a few different makes in my DE... KWA, ASG, BB Kings, and the Geoff's. They've all worked ok, no feeding issues I can remember, but obviously there could be differences in the accuracy that I wouldn't have noticed during games. Hence my attempt to punch a few holes in paper to see how the gun is performing. Geoff's are quite pricey while the Specnas are £8 for 6000 at the moment, which is cheap enough to make me look past any issues https://jdairsoft.net/deals/day-4 Edit: More chrono results today (Thursday) - still 345-365fps depending on hop. Yay! I had to drive to the airport and back and lost the afternoon due to traffic, it was getting dark and raining when I got back so haven't done any more accuracy testing, or left the gun to get cold.
  9. Cheers Adolf, see my edit above - possibly accuracy has improved with the new nub in place. I'll test it properly soon, using both the same BB KIngs ones for a direct comparison, and also the Specna 0.28g Bio BB's that I just bought a big batch of (hoping they're alright!)
  10. (Damnit, can't edit my last post, the emojii on the end seems to confuse the editor) I was going to ask, is the lack of a slot on the bottom of that spring guide going to cause an issue? Will you be able to rotate it ok with just pressure on the base rather than leverage from a screwdriver blade? Question about the accuracy... As I've just received my F2000 but I'm torturing myself by waiting until Christmas morning to unbox it, I ended up watching Airsoft Mike's review again last night. Yeah, I know... but he is the only person who has done a full review of the Cyma version, so 'any port in a storm' ☺️ I'd previously dismissed his accuracy tests as looking like it was too short-ranged to care about, but when I listened he said it was at 50ft, and that's 15m, same range as I tested my gun at. His results with the F2000 were impressive tbh, much tighter grouping than I got. It's raised the question: is the F2000 inherently that much more accurate because of the longer barrel, him shooting indoors with perhaps better BB's etc... Or was my gun underperforming? How are you guys finding the accuracy in your guns? Edit: I've now fitted the Omega nub. It was a little more fiddly than with that cunningly shaped stock nub, as I tried several times and must have positioned it a little too far back so it was perhaps jamming on the edge of the 'window' and failing to apply any hop. Once I'd got it in the right place I fired a few shots down the garden. A very small sample stats-wise, but the shots seemed to fly straighter. Looking forward to repeating the accuracy test later! Chrono tests this morning are the same, yowzers, I'm a happy bunny. I have to put some hop on to get it below the 350fps but that's fine isn't it?
  11. Thread hijacking? Nah, appreciate the interesting info ?. And I've sidetracked enough threads myself that I can't complain even if you did ?
  12. I would completely agree with everything you just said there @EDcase except the Omicron variant shows it's not just down to us all doing the right thing, it's down to all the leaders in all the countries trying to do the right thing too, and the rich countries helping the poorer ones with vaccines etc. It's a world-wide responsibility. So while I don't want that to be an excuse for people here ignoring the advice and the temporary rules, I fear that as long as there are pockets of the global community where vaccines haven't been widely distributed or used, there'll be new variants popping up that can cause more trouble. it's going to be a long while before we can get back to a truly normal existence.
  13. Oh I see what you mean, so I forego the security of the retaining part, but it'll still work! Yeah, I'll give that a go! Tomorrow... my wife is demanding my return to the sofa... I must admit, I'm not confident about the muzzle velocity. I'll want to see it chrono consistently for at least a couple more days before being reasonably sure it's fixed. Top tip for anyone putting the stock tube back on, and completely confused on how to manoeuvre the silver bolt retainer into the right location and orientation (especially with the wiring getting in the way) - put the bolt through it before dropping it down the tube - the extra weight stabilises it and gravity becomes your friend
  14. AND he knocked on the door and waited until someone answered! (Admittedly it was me, and it took me approximately 3.2 seconds to run down the stairs as I got that spidey-sense tingle, in spite of the fact that just 4 minutes prior I'd sent an email to JD Airsoft to ask if my gun had been sent yet, as the order status was still 'preparing'!) And he smiled nicely and wished me a happy Xmas. So actually an effort 'Worthy Of Laudation' from the UPS chap this time.
  15. I'm starting a new thread as I've been trampling over other people's too often recently, and as I've got my own chrono and a desire to do the simple things on my own, I thought I'd record stuff here, and ask for related advice. Background: New Double Eagle M906C delivered start of November. Didn't open it up to clean it out, just straight off to three skirmishes where it's performed very well in-game but with two caveats: 1) Low rate of fire on 7.4v. Especially so after a cold day on the field. In warm conditions it's shooting 11.6 rps on 7.4v, 16.4 rps on 11.1v. That'll do me. 2) Low muzzle velocity. Very variable figures seen, anything from a low of 230fps on a very cold site, to 300fps in my house, but also down at 270fps in the same conditions. The odd thing about the muzzle velocity differences are they stay consistent each time, so each day / test the readings are all very similar, within +-5fps Intended actions: 1) Crack open the receiver, check the gun looks ok internally 2) Spray some lube into the nozzle (leave for a while, then shoot it out before re-assembly) 3) Change stock hop rubber to 50C (Light green) Maple Leaf Macaron 4) Change stock hop nub to Omega 5) Change spring to M100 or M105 'Before' testing: With gun at room temperature, chrono'd at 270-280fps. Accuracy test with cheapo BB Kings 0.25g Bio BB's, 15m measured, fired from room @ 19-20C, 2C ambient temp outside, light wind, bench rest, Kobra red dot, approx 30 shots Results: 1) I've cracked open the gun... The front receiver pin was stiff and it took some hammering, but very easy to slide off the top receiver after that (once I'd worked out the dust cover needs to be closed, or it'll get blocked by it). No damage to the nozzle. Barrel was quite clean, but not perfect, so ran some cotton swabs through it. There's evidence of light greasing on the piston - everything looks good (neither under or over lubed) to my untutored eye 2) Sprayed the Ultrair silicon lube into the nozzle and left it while I did everything else. Then blasted out the excess with a few shots before reassembly. 3) Replaced the hop rubber. The old one seemed fine, lubed on the outside but clean-ish on the inside. It definitely worked ok as I've managed to over-hop 0.30g BBs a few weeks ago. 4) Attempted to replace the nub. The Omega is simply too large to fit into the hop arm... Have I bought the wrong one somehow??? @ak2m4 perhaps you could tell me? 5) Replaced the spring. This was really easy thanks to the quick-change system. (I wish my TM AK had the same, breaking the gearbox open was a real pain and left me with a bill for someone else to put it back together!) The stock tube bolt needs a long-shafted no4 Hex bit to undo. The spring end plate thing needs as wide a flat-head screwdriver as you can find (to make it super-easy). The spring guide is nicely engineered. The interesting thing is I've tried two springs in there: Action Army M100 - much shorter than the stock spring, gave 320fps with 0.25g BB's (no hop) ASG M105 - either longer than the stock spring, or about the same length... it's still in the gun so can't compare now... 320fps Which just goes to show you can't trust the manufacturer's ratings, gotta try the springs yourself. And the acid test, 0.20g BBs with a bit of hop applied ... 345-350fps. Yaaaasssssssss! So, I'm really rather happy. I've successfully 'done things' without apparently buggering-up my gun, mostly thanks to the nice way it's been designed and built by DE. And the muzzle velocity is up to the site limit, and still seems to be consistent. Though obviously it's changed from day-to-day before, so I'll have to keep my eye on that! I'll re-test the accuracy tomorrow, but obviously I'd rather do it with the Omega nub in place. Still, it'll be interesting to see what difference the other changes have made first. I'll also chill the gun outside, see if that affects the fps.
  16. Santa (UPS) arrived early this year... But I'm not going to open the box until Christmas morning. Oh, the anticip...... .... ation Also... 18,000 Bio 0.28g BBs, an M105 spring, and a nozzle and fuses for my AK.
  17. ... hmmm Scrooged? (That's what your pic(s) look to me)
  18. It seems to be your slightly lucky day in that JD Airsoft have an Advent Calendar special on Specna's: https://jdairsoft.net/deals/day-12 The H22 isn't there but the H09 is on offer... Pretty hard to resist at that price, I'd imagine. Though you'll have no space for nunchuck batteries in that particular stock. Could get a after-market crane stock to replace it, they're from £15-£50, or even less used.
  19. Oh damnit, more weirdness. I'm doing that 'before' accuracy test, and even though it's at room temp again, I'm only getting 270-275fps! I ended up shooting at 15m and I've got a total group size of 5" x 3.5" from around 30 shots, including 4 flyers, from a bench rest. Most of the shots actually landed in a 3.5" x 2.5" area, on a slight diagonal slant from top-left to bottom-right, suggesting I was pulling the shots a little. Cheapo Bio BBs bought at the site ... 'BB Kings' so they might not be doing the gun any favours. That's all I've got at the moment. And I didn't have a very visible aiming mark, so some of that will be me as well. I'll probably have another crack at it.
  20. So far, and to the best of my recollection: Chrono'd when at room temp 21C = 290-310fps Chrono'd on Sunday at 4C = 230fps Chrono'd previous games at 6-10C = 270fps It does seem very temperature dependent, but I'm not totally ruling out some other "Factor X", like bad lube, a damaged hop rubber, or gunk in the barrel etc. I'm holding off my disassembly until tomorrow when I'm first going to do some 'before' tests of fps / rps / accuracy at ~20m. Then I'll swallow a couple of brave pills / drink half a bottle of vodka and change the spring (for M100 or M105) / hop rubber / nub, and spray some silicone into cylinder (and blast it out), clean the barrel. To be honest, looking at the video linked below, it's not too tricky as long as I don't crack the gearbox open to check the lube inside... Pheas airsoft M904 disassembly video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijqsUFI5Wt4&t=739s&ab_channel=PheasAirsoft Then I'll re-test. If I've got the time and patience, and it's cold enough, I'll leave the gun outside to get it chilly to see what the difference is on my chrono, both before and after doing the upgrade. PS @SovietSloth Sorry about slightly derailing your thread - it happens every time The on-topic takeaway should be that the DE guns are good, but not perfect, some are doing better than others but I'm certainly still very happy I bought mine. Hopefully there'll be some useful extra info come out of this CSI-style forensic testing!
  21. Note - there's at least a couple of us M90x owners not getting 340+ fps - we're down at ~300fps, dropping to low 200's in the cold. Maybe we've been unlucky, maybe the guns just need a clean out, and as I'm about to embark with some serious fiddling, perhaps I'll find an answer. (I'm no tech so chances are equally high that my gun will end up in little plastic bags ready for someone else to put back together)
  22. You had me at 'thong' That's a lot of webbing. You've got a fetish haven't you When you say "an old sales post", you sold these? But now you don't? Bah humbug, my timing sucks The tri-rail is a cool thing. As I want to add a ris rail to the front to mount a stubby grip, I've either got to get one of those (expensive, hard to find), get someone to 3D print one for me from a thingiverse model (I don't know anyone with a printer) or try to mount it into / onto the existing handguard. If it's the latter - do you think it's feasible? Is the supplied plastic handguard solid enough to cut into and support a rail, something like this? (I'm not worried about the side rails, just one short section at the front would be enough) Looking again at the ebay listing, it says 1.25" / 32mm ? Still, it's a fiver, I've ordered one anyway. I guess the slot could be gently filed an extra 0.5mm on each side if need be, without weakening the whole thing(?)
  23. I can't tell you specifically about the Specna, but they have a good rep too. There's a good video for the DE FCS, you should be able to find it easily in YT. I'm not sure how the Aster compares. I had a long discussion about the pros and cons of running 11.1v on a UK spec gun (i.e relatively low spring compression, increasing rate of fire and potentially increasing the possibility of breaking the thing) Well to cut a long story short my expensive Titan 7.4v Li-Ion is now my backup battery and I'm running a couple of small 11.1v Li-Pos through the day... so yeah 11.1 works. Other people have reported no issues longer term Comparison video... (Apologies for the big crappy watermark, it's my first go with video editing so haven't 'invested' in it yet) I've just got a chrono yesterday, so I'll add the actual rates of fire into the description today. Yesterday I got 12rps with the 7.4v and 15 (iirc) off the 11.1v, but that battery was nearly out of juice, hence a re-test today. edit: Chrono on the fully charged Turnigy 11.1v is 16.4 rounds per sec which I'm more than happy with. In fact I chew through ammo noticeably faster (I tend to do the suppressive fire thang a lot when I'm not sneaking) so the 7.4v is still perfectly viable. (Added the rates of fire to the video now) The Negative Airsoft chap says one of the good things about Specna is they are not set to run too fast on 11.1, so not overstressing components. I suspect the DE is similar.
  24. So I could just run one of these cheap things around the stock and through the slots, attach the single point to the d-ring and I'm golden...? Cool. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tactical-Universal-D-Ring-Sling-point-Adapter-rifle-buttstock-Loop-Strap-Airsoft-/353409589012?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Is the 1.25" width of that strap the standard size that will fit through the slots ok?
  25. I've got a 50deg macaron to put in mine, that might be all it needs... But as I remember back to the previous game (which I think was even colder, very close to zero) when I came home with a low rate of fire too, then that opens up all the possibilities really doesn't it. Edit: I've updated the video to include the rates of fire for the M906... the old video is de-listed so might not work anymore.
