If you have a bitter taste in your mouth because you feel as if you earn a UKARA because you play so often then take it up with the retailers.

I have been playing airsoft for just over 10 years now, In my 20's I could go every week but not so much now, so to it from the other side, I see it as a punishment that I cannot buy a new rif because I haven't been able to play as much as I used to, to keep an active UKARA

Nerf MA40 to GBB conversion begins. AAP-01 fits after removing some internal supports. . AAP and MA40 hacked up some more and the AAP is bolted to the left shell. Nerf mag hack up and spaced to fit the AAP mag. Long way to go got to figure out a mag release and charging handle, I may put a larger pistol grip in.

    One of these fellows.

I have no idea about pistols, I think it's some sort of Colt Python .357" Magnum PI inspired thing.  I bought it because, well, I don't have a revolver, and I might want to use it in Very Hard Mode in Very CQB.

    Out of the box:

Quality is mixed. The outer barrel is metal, and there are metal weights under the grips, giving it some nice heft.  The frame is a decent solid plastic, I don't have any robustness concerns there.  However, the grips are a cheap feeling hard plastic, there are too few points of contact with the frame, and too much free play in both the grips and the weights under them.  No big drama, I've packed it with tape.

The mechanism feels OK. The plastic cylinder is solid enough and the shells are metal. When flipped out, the hinge feels fairly robust, but I doubt you'll be doing that much, if ever, should you be inclined to field it - read on for why.  The inner barrel and nozzle that keys into the shells is sprung to press it back and engage solidly, without making closing or rotating the cylinder too onerous.

    Initial range shooting:

A disappointing and inconsistent 0.3 - 0.5J with either 0.2g or 0.25g on ASG ULTRAIR green gas at 15C - the minimum recommended temperature.  The note in the box from Bullseye claimed 242fps on 0.2g (0.54J) with Swiss Arms 130psi gas at 14C.

The energy inconsistency is reflected in shooting inconsistency too.  It's 90% accurate, 60% of the time, but there are a lot of wild fliers. The rear sight adjusts for uppy-downy and sidey-sidey, although that's somewhat of a gimmick given the inconsistency.

Some sellers claim there's a fixed hop.  Nope, nothing, you'll need to lob beyond point-blank ranges.

It's gas efficient and I put about 80 shots through it without refilling (or needing to).  Bad Influence Airsoft tested its HG-133 sibling and saw 150 shots out of it.

    After investigation:

On disassembly (careful now, the 4 screws are in 3 different sizes), it turns out that the gas is routed from the reservoir and valve up a channel on the inside of the frame, sealed by o-rings at top and bottom.  They were essentially unlubed, and the frame side needs to be screwed on as securely as possible without stripping out the plastic in order to get a good seal.  I've silicone lubed the seals now, or you could alternatively just spooge as much silicone as you like into the nozzle that feeds into the back of the shells - there's no hop to contaminate, so go wild. The excess will get blown out.

Another issue is that the cylinder is rotated by a bar attached to the trigger.  Cocking the hammer pulls the trigger partially back and raises the bar, but not quite enough to completely rotate the cylinder. Only when the trigger is pulled does it complete the last of the rotation and line up the shell, and it seems that it can still be slightly misaligned when it spurts.  Cocking the hammer and then giving the cylinder a tiny nudge to get it fully aligned before pulling the trigger seems to help. Since the most effective way to use is pre-cocked, this isn't as onerous as it sounds.

With it lubed and the cylinder aligned, I am now actually seeing the advertised 0.6 - 0.7J out of it.  It's still not super-consistent and the lack of hop means it's still a short ranged plinker at best.

    Loading:

Yes, the shells come out, and the shell extractor works well enough.  There are no spares though, so doing so is fraught with hazards.  At about £10-11 for another 6 shells, reloading via shells will get expensive, and you'll doubtless lose them as fast as you buy them if you actually try reloading in-game.

However, it turns out that you don't have to.  Just point the gun up at your face, and drop a BB into the front of each shellazine as you rotate the cylinder.  You can press them in individually with a finger, but you don't even have to do that.  Fill two, rotate, fill two, rotate, fill two, then do another complete rotation and the nozzle will push each BB back to exactly where they need to be.  With practice, you can reload this thing in-game that way, and quicker than fumbling around with shells.  So I reckon that if you actually want to skirmish with it, you'll never bother to actually open the cylinder.

    [Update] Play:

The real effective range against a fully exposed target is maybe 40 feet.  To be fair, HFC do list the range as effective/maximum 37/48 ft which is surprisingly realistic, although it lies about the hop and magazine so I suspect it's from the wrong gun or just random text.

So is it useless?  Well, no, not quite, and the most memorable kills I got with it were point-blanking folk in a killhouse.  With the hammer cocked, you can get an effective close range shot off.  However, the double-action trigger is so heavy that you're unlikely to get a second.  This wasn't a problem in practice given the intensity of the action, and surprisingly, neither was the capacity.  Most hits were trade-offs, I never lived live long enough to get through 6 chambers, and it can be reloaded on the way back to respawn.

It's daft to try and use it versus just about anything else, but this is a daft hobby, and I had fun with it in that specific situation.

    tl;dr summary:

It's a working revolver, it shoots BBs about as far as a cheap springer or (unhopped) AEP, and you can just about skirmish it.  For £53 plus postage, I'm happy enough with it, although (e.g.) an AA R17 can be had for much the same money and will outshoot it all day long.

    I have fitted one.
Although I have not fitted the Marui red dot personally, the area does look the same once the slide is fitted. I did also get this from Kim at Volante during my purchase.
"I recommend to use it with RMR mountable aluminium housing as original FNX can't mount RMR size sights."
I would email Kim at Volante if you have any questions as he is absolutely brilliant to deal with and I always find him helpful.

The slide itself went on with minimal fitting. Certainly well made with good tolerances.
There is a lack of full markings on the right of the slide. Better that than the wrong markings I guess.
Metal RMR cover and sights would have been a nice extra.
Recoil impulse has improved. I can still empty a full mag, rapid firing with no adverse cool down effect which is good enough for me.

The obvious comparison has to be made with the Cybergun/VFC version of course. I made some mods to mine which need to be taken in to account.

My VFC versions have the same internal upgrades: Azimuth lightweight blowback housing and nozzle. (This improves gas efficiency at the expense of a small amount of recoil impulse as I found the standard set up started to suffer cool down effects by the end of the mag if the gun was rapid fired).
Marui HOP rubber, I key and inner barrel. (Standard set up was terrible).
Guns Modify 125% recoil spring (for Glock 17) which is just a bit weaker than standard but fitted in conjunction with the lighter blowback housing to help fight cooldown.

Handling both brands shows a similar weight and feel.
No extreme size differences to note.
Firing them both side by side shows similar FPS with green gas.
VFC has the edge on recoil.
    VFC has better trademarks.
Marui HOP beats VFC hands down. Fantastic stock unit, not even
on halfway and lifts .30s with ease.
VFC has a few minor QC  'foibles', most of which can be dealt with.

There are many other details but the bottom line is the Marui version is a better skirmish gun out of the box (or with the metal slide) but the VFC has the edge on details. Once modified it does bring them closer.

Different people want different things out of a gun but I feel the perfect FNX would be a hybrid of both.

    I hope this helps 🙂

Took almost a year and a lot of planning to source everything, but finally finished my grail build - the Springfield Armory Professional

    ----------------------------------------------
Fun fact : The late-model versions of the MEU such as the Tokyo Marui or Guarder replicas are based on this version of the 1911.
The USMC took base model Springfield Professional models and modified it to fit their own requirements. These included things such as adding the lanyard loop and forward slide serrations. The photo below of an actual MEU pistol shows how the slide sports the forward serrations added by the USMC's armorers, which was cut over the "custom shop" lettering from the Springfield factory. Another interesting thing is that the slide and frame seem to be a different color. This was because the frame was the original "Black-T" finish from the factory, while the slide was refinished/parkerized after cutting the front slide serrations.

I really wanted the original professional model (RS example, left), but the only similar option available without the front slide serrations was the Guarder Bureau model (RS example, right). They both are essentially the same gun, but the latter was a marketing ploy by Springfield after they won the contract for the FBI HRT's sidearm. They slathered a bunch of FBI lettering and even used FBI in the serial numbers to really let you know this was a cool gun chosen by the FBI. After about 40 or so of these were manufactured and sold as the "Bureau Model" the FBI put a hard stop for their name being used in branding. Due to this, these were extremely rare, and the RS ones can go for 5,000+ USD; I assume that Guarder chose to produce the Bureau Model instead of the bare-bones Professional due to this rarity and backstory.

But still, I really wanted the original model since both the USMC's MEU and the FBI's "Bureau Model" both were based on the Professional. Which brings us back to the fun fact in the first photo: The MEU is the Professional model, with forward serrations added - This gave me an idea. If the forward serrations were skipped from being added on Guarder's MEU slide, it would be exactly what I wanted.

So I pitched this idea to Guarder, with fingers crossed that they would accept something like this.

And by some miracle, they accepted to do the custom order!

And here it is! The only airsoft SFA professional. It was such a long project to complete I now can't exactly remember why I wanted a Professional in the first place, but extremely happy on how it came out. Everything is correct to original Pro model specs, but I never could source the magwell..

Any SOA fans out there? While researching for this project I found that Jax teller's main sidearm was also a Professional

Been buying quite a few things over the past couple of weeks...

First off, I bought a replica ww1 uniform from soldier of fortune.  After asking advice on this forum, I spoke to a couple of re-enactors who all say they sourced their kit from SoF, so that's where I went..

(Haven't photographed the webbing, as it just looks like a tangled mess, but I do have it 😃 )

Already fitted a Northamptonshire regiment badge to the cap..

Next I purchased some spare magazines for the Lee Enfield, as well as a red dot sight with riser rail and a patch.

I also bought a dog tag striker pad... (because I am fed up with the striker pads on my pyro falling off)
    All bought from Socom tactical

    and then finally...

Today I purchased a real steel BSA No.9 peephole rear sight with matching mount plate for the SMLE...  I just need to make up a longer screw to go through the upper hole as well as the safety lever...  (currently it just has one lower screw and the original spacer holding it in place)
