Way too far for me, but I wish you luck with it. Defiant Events did one in the south a few months ago and everyone who went loved it, so hopefully you'll find similar success! Personally, I'd make it gas snipers only so you don't get a bunch of people showing up with tac41s and VSRs, but I'm probably biased in that regard... *looks at 2x Tanaka m700s + 2x KJW m700s + PPS kar98k*

Haha, that's exactly what I did. Picked up a few of the ex-police x300s myself -
I'm in Brighton, right on the south coast. To my knowledge, the only sites near me are Worthing Airsoft (40ish mins), Driver Wood (40ish mins), Dogtag (40ish mins), Southdown Airsoft (1hr 15mins), Battle Lakes (1hr 15 mins). Invicta is about 1hr 30 mins and Imperium is about 2hrs. Gunman Eversley is also about 2hrs I think, because the M25 is always a bastard, so while Google maps says 1hr 40mins, I can say from experience going there for Vietnam games it's closer to 2hrs. If there are other sites, I'd love to know about it! I'm starting to learn to drive (literally just had my 2nd lesson), so once I've got that done and I've got my own car, I'll be looking to explore a bit. And yes. I went to Dogtag... also about a year ago and I wasn't impressed the day I went. There was a regular who was blatantly cheating by going out of bounds to sneak around and shoot people in the back (we literally caught him doing it on camera, emerging from out of bounds to shoot people in the back) and this same person also didn't take his hit from me when I shot him in the back with a mk23 (he wasn't the only questionable hit taker either). The games were... fine, and we got the better end of it in my opinion as we used the paintball fields instead of the airsoft fields; the airsoft fields there looked really small and very contained. I much prefer wide open sites like Driver Wood and Gunman Eversley Alpha than the small, multiple arena type fields like Dogtag (and Southdown. They have a lovely wide open site... that they then split into small arenas!)

This makes sense to me, though I haven't been in about a year due to no driving license (working on that now!), but I still think it's one of the better sites within an hour by car from where I live. It's very commercial and I don't like that you're not allowed supposed to bring outside food because obviously they want to incentivise you to buy their food (I stash a bunch of snacks in my kit and eat them while I'm camping in a bush in game because screw that noise...), but the site itself is pretty nice, has good avenues for me as a bolt action / DMR enjoyer, and at least last time I went, I didn't have any major gripes other than your standard fare of one or two people being questionable with hit taking, but you get that most places I feel! For me, the draw is that it is much larger overall and isn't woodland CQB like Worthing is becoming with each passing year, since it's really overgrown at Worthing and isn't really being cut back; even in the winter the sight lines suck now, and I'm dreading what this summer will look like, and as I said, I like my bolt actions and DMRs. I'd be interested to see what you think of Dogtag when you get down there. Of the three sites within an hour by car from me (Worthing, Driver Wood and Dogtag), Dogtag is the only one where I don't think I'll ever go there again outside of once in a blue moon if I feel like changing things up a bit! I'd rather go to Driver Wood, Worthing, or spend a bit of extra time driving to Battle Lakes, or maybe even Invicta woodland or Imperium for their ground war (though that's almost a 2 hour car trip, so wouldn't want to do it for just a skirmish day).

Nothing too exciting, but I was trying to work out how to use my fancy Magpul MS4 sling with my Tanaka AICS (as I want to use a good quality sling on it!). One option was paracord to then loop the sling into, but then I saw these: TM L96 QD sling adapters. Ordered a set from HK and they fit wonderfully, meaning I can now just quickly swap my MS4 sling from my M40A5 over to my AICS in a matter of seconds (as the M40 stock has QD mounts as well) -
I don't like players who throw tantrums over getting hit by BBs while playing BB wars, this is true. However, not all players I don't like throw tantrums over BB wars. And I said I only shoot the tantrum ones, but it seems that I, like @Colin Allen above me, assumed you had at least basic reading comprehension, so I apologise for my wild assumption. If I don't like a player but they're otherwise cordial, they get the same treatment as everyone else. Even non-hit takers get a peaceful walk back to spawn from me (when they actually decide to take one!) Hell, a lot of people who are good friends with each other that I know will shoot each other in the legs or the back or some other not-head-not-nuts body part while heading out to games because it's BB wars and we're a bunch of overgrown children running around the woods shooting each other with toy guns at the end of the day. It's never vindictive or some horrible full auto hose down, it's usually with their pistols that they otherwise never use in game. I use my pistols a lot because MED and overgrown woodland areas at the sites I go to, but I swear a lot of my not-sniper-not-DMR friends only use their pistols to shoot puddles and each other on the way out to games ? Maybe consider a visit to the proctologist for that stick; it seems to be pretty firmly wedged in there.
-
Sounds like you're one of those "I yell at 14 year olds when they shoot me with more than 1 BB" kinds of players. I'd argue it's more unacceptable to yell at people and throw a tantrum when you get hit by BBs while playing airsoft, especially when walking in the middle of a firefight.

What makes it worse is that I've had so many examples of live players using dead players as cover. I've had people pinned behind a barricade wait for dead players to walk across where they're getting shot from (by me, watching them through my scope), and then move up using the dead players as cover. The only times I won't shoot are when someone is within my MED. I'm a decent shot and my rifles are obsessively tuned, so if I think I can hit the live players, I'll take the shot. However, nobody's perfect, and airsoft guns are nowhere near as precise as some people think they are, so I'll sometimes hit the dead players and it's not (entirely) their fault. Most people don't cause a fuss and will simply accelerate or step to the side, but a select few will. I've been "overshot" so many times when I've been hit, put my hand up, and stood up from my hidden position or exited the bush I was under. People get spooked when a ghillie suddenly appears out of seemingly nowhere and will sometimes unload on full auto in a panic And those select few are the ones I'll shoot on their way to respawn on purpose. I'm generally quite mellow and do my best to avoid shooting players who are already hit, but if you frequently lose your rag due to being shot when you're already dead and overreact and throw your toys out of the pram, you bet your bottom dollar I'm going to line up the shot through my scope and deliberately shoot you in the arse when you're walking back to respawn ?
-
I think anyone who played before and through 2007 would agree with you there. If you want to play like this, why not just play paintball? They've been doing this for ages
-
Also getting shot up close with heavy BBs sucks. A lot of CQB sites limit BB weights for this reason.
-
Friend's car died, so guess I'm taking a break from airsoft for now. Unless anyone is in the Brighton area and has a space in their car? ?
On the plus side, I have at least started learning to drive myself, so in a few months I should be good(?) -
I've found PDI barrels can have issues with ML hop rubbers. I had to widen the window on the 6.08 PDI barrel in my MTW, because it wasn't properly fitting the ML contact patch and wasn't hopping heavy BBs when it should have. After I widened the window it worked fine. That said, I now swear by the 4uantum Friction Pro buckings for AEG-style hop ups. I really like them. However, the only gun I use that gets any use with an AEG hop rubber in it is my MTW, and even then that plays second fiddle to my GBBRs and gas bolt actions.

Yeah, I don't tend to buy Novritsch stuff guns because it just doesn't appeal to me usually. I will frequently say that if you want a decent VSR-looking bolt action without needing to do many, if any, upgrades, just buy an SSG10 because they're fine out of the box. Are they as good as an obsessively tuned VSR? No, but they also don't need that time and money sink to get a decent percentage of the performance. I've bought non-gun Novritsch stuff in the past and most of it was pretty great, and I will endorse his newer SSX23 magazines because they're so much easier to maintain than the damn mk23 mags; the only thing that was a bit crap were his ghillie leaves that fell apart, and his original ghillie boonie just wasn't big enough for me and my 62cm radius cranium. The gas / HPA out of the box sniper rifle is certainly the most interesting thing in my opinion. That's something that we really don't have anywhere else, so I really hope they nail it. Using gas bolt actions in the winter can be a challenge (it's possible, but you basically need to own 4 different types of gas for weather dependent performance), so having one that can be used with green gas in the warmer months, then switched to HPA in the colder months is far more accessible to people. Not to mention, it won't have the gas magazine tax (my m700 mags are £50+ each...) as the green gas goes in a reservoir on the rifle, not in the magazine. I'll wait and see, because I never buy gen1 anything, but it may tempt me enough to buy one. I probably won't, because I already have my m700s and all the gas variants to use it in pretty much all weathers, though I am pretty much entirely a gas bolt action / GBBR enjoyer
-
Some more interesting stuff, but I am going to say the forbidden N word... It's Novritsch. However, after watching this I am genuinely interested to see how these go and I'm hoping that they perform well and don't come out like that horrible GBBR they released a while back that was just a bit shit. Both bolt actions intrigue me (though I would've liked an actual number in cubic cm or mm^3 when he talks about the air volume of the spring one), and I'd be tempted to try building a pair of carbines with the carbine kits (one as a DMR "sidearm" for running with my short MWS or an SMG, and one as a full auto brrrrttttt sidearm for when I'm using a proper DMR or bolt action)
-
Yeah, I totally agree there and that was largely my point. I'd only advise a VSR to someone if they want to go down the hyper-tuning rabbit hole, or they're going for that particular look. I'm the type of player who does well with a VSR; I've given game days a miss to just sit on the range all day and tune setups. Also, of my 41 guns, 11 are bolt actions (will be 12 as I'm grabbing a Tanaka m24 soon(ish)) and 12 are pistols. Over half of my collection are bolt actions or the pistols I carry along with them. I also use gas bolt actions because I enjoy them and can get them shooting incredibly well, however that requires minor teching literally every game day morning to get the power right for the temperature on the day, so I don't ever recommend those. TAC-41 is, at the moment, the "best" bolt action on the market for the majority of airsoft players looking to get into that kind of playstyle. Even I was tempted to build one when I saw that nice m-lok handguard that extends all the way down the barrel, but then decided I didn't want to spend that much on another gun (because you know I'd swap out all the parts!) and it wouldn't get used much anyway with my massive preference for (gas) m700s
-
JG do a g-spec as well, but I think Cyma only do a regular one so if you were looking to get a g-spec the choices are TM or JG. You can get aftermarket parts to convert a full length to g-spec length, but that's more cost. In the end, you will be swapping out pretty much all of the internals to the point where after I bought an aftermarket stock, I was able to then build a third VSR purely out of spare and extra parts I had accumulated across the other two VSR builds I'd done. Mileage varies, but if you go all out on the internals, you're probably swapping out the hop unit, rubber, nub, inner barrel, cylinder, cylinder head, piston, spring guide, spring and trigger unit. And yes, that is literally every internal part that I just listed. There is definitely something to be said with just getting a tac41 instead, as those require a lot less upgrades, but if you're like me and don't really like the aesthetics, that's a problem. Also, in my opinion, a fully kitted out tac41 doesn't perform as well as a fully kitted out VSR, however it's a lot easier and cheaper in the end to get a tac41 that performs well than a VSR that performs as well, let alone exceptionally well. It's a good choice though if you like how it looks. If I was going to compare the tac41 to the VSR, I'd say pros and cons are: + better out of the box + has better air volume for heavier BBs / longer barrels (41cc vs ~35cc in a VSR) + easier to get it shooting quietly + easier to put attachments on such as bipods, lights etc. + has QD mounts for sling, which is probably better than the crappy sling mounts on the VSR + more options for external parts and better modularity + (much) higher performance floor - (slightly) lower performance ceiling - less adaptable for various filmsim or period milsim events or impression kits - heavier than a VSR (even the Lite version is heavier than a g-spec) - less options for internal parts

Three MWSs. The mk12 is semi-locked and run as a DMR, but the others are 1.14J with the fun switch and no MED. Got a carry handle + 4x repro colt scope and the relevant handguards for if I want to turn the m16a4 into an a1 (Vietnam filmsim) or a2 (90s filmsim). I don't care if the Hogue grip isn't period accurate, A2 pistol grips suck and I hate them Outside my m700s, these are the other guns I tend to use a lot. I like my gas guns!

A very successful day today. I decided to try using my m40a5 on red gas today to see if it would be happy even though it was still pretty chilly today (though it was definitely warmer than it has been). It was a challenge getting the power down, but I managed to get it to 2.2J and then took it out. The problem I had in the past when I ran it on green gas in the winter, was that the consistency was awful; I'd start a mag at 2.2J and end it at 1.4J. However, on red gas it was absolutely fine today and I managed to use it for the whole day without issue, so that was a welcome surprise. Well, I had one issue, but... well, I will try a 4uantum rubber in it because the 60 degree Flamingo was excited today. I could barely turn the hop on before it started sending BBs to the moon, so I'll trial a different rubber in it. There were some pain points today though. They were all brought up to the marshalls, and the marshalls did act on it so I'm not going to complain about it; the past few game days haven't had these sorts of issues, so hopefully it's just a blip. We had some people going waaaaaaaay out of bounds and spawncamping today (group of ghillie players with HPA guns, to nobody's surprise I'm sure...), we had people shooting over a field that we're not allowed to shoot over, there was some questionable hit taking, and some people moving and talking when dead. Also the hi-capa and AAP worked really well on black gas today, and the new holster is just phenomenal. Almost lost one of my hi-capa mags, but it was found and handed in thankfully. With all these successes with higher power gas, I think I might try my mk12 MWS (set up as a DMR) on red gas next game day. In these temperatures, it should be fine as the psi of red gas in these temperatures is lower than green in summer, and will hopefully just be a bit more consistent than green gas in the cold.

I don't know any weekenders that are as big as the NAF. The only two larger weekend events I know are... AI500 is usually around 400 - 500 players. Usually at a pretty cool and unique sites, like the upcoming one is at an amusement part that recently closed down, but the quality of airsoft varies. Some are decent, some have been a total shitshow. Shift Your RIFTs is... I don't know how many players, but it's pretty big too. At RIFT's REDCON site, which is pretty nice and it has a bit of everything; CQB areas, open areas, wooded areas. Only been once myself, but I had an absolute blast last year and will definitely be going back again. Both are best enjoyed with friends though. The social aspect of large events is the main draw in my opinion.

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Impulse replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I almost always use guns with MEDs, be it bolt actions or DMRs. Therefore I have a lot of really nicely upgraded pistols, because I use them a lot. I also like having a light and a suppressor on them, light for function, suppressor for tacticool-ness. It has taken me this long to finally buy a good holster, but god damn do I like it and I should've done this a long time ago. It's a Deadly Customs DC5 universal light bearing and tracer holster with an m81 woodland cordura wrap, plus both a mid-ride mount and a molle mount with quick locking systems. All in, it was about £125, but worth every penny. I run real-steel Surefire x300s on my pistols and the retention is a lot better than on the Nuprol NX300 that lives on my HK45 (that I don't really use much); HK45 with the Nuprol light fell out when I turned it upside down and gave it a shake, but when I put the Surefire on it, it stayed locked in. Holster fits all of my pistols that I tend to use and none of them are falling out with the real Surefire x300 on them, apart from the mk23 which is just too large. 1911 is quite tight as well because the slide is high, but it does fit. So that's the Hi-Capa 5.1, AAP, 1911 and p226 that all fit, as well as the HK45. All with suppressors on as well, and the AAP also has an RMR. Glad I picked up an extra quick locking system and a molle mount, because it means I can just swap it over to a different kit, or mount it on a chest rig so I can use a GBB pistol on a chest rig as a cross-draw, and the mk23 on my DTD holster on my hip if I want both stealth and a bit of firepower. Such a good investment. -
Worthing Airsoft. Loadout will be standard ghillie setup (cape + boonie) over woodland marpat and my WAS belt setup. Want to finalise what I'm going to use for AI500 in two months time, so will be focusing on that, though will probably swap the woodland marpat for m81 woodland closer to the time as it should start bushing up in the coming months. Weather is looking good so I'm hoping to bring out the m40a5 (KJW m700 in an m40 kit), but if it's not good enough I'll fall back on the MTW 308. Sidearm will be hi-capa or AAP.

This is why I don't tend to sell my guns on forums, even though I would like to slim my collection down a whole lot since I don't use most of them and generally stick to the same handful; including my pistols (I tend towards MED guns so they're important!) across both regular play and Vietnam filmsim, I use 16 of my 41 guns, and of those I only use about 10 of them regularly. I spend a lot of time and money tweaking my guns to as near to perfection as I can, but people online don't know for sure that it works well, nor should they take the word of an internet stranger at face value. I think I'd sell face to face where the person can take it to the range and see how it performs. That said, all of the guns I've bought 2nd hand from here have been fantastic or exactly as advertised, however I've generally only bought near stock, stock, or boneyard stuff that I then take away and tweak and fiddle with myself, as I don't trust most people's teching abilities. I've seen far too many horror stories of people buying "fully upgraded" guns that shoot about 40m and then die half way through the first game day of usage.
-
As a very keen sniper who does it basically every time I go play BB wars... yes, this rule is utterly ridiculous. If you're against a good sniper, ghillie or no ghillie, it's rare you'll see them at a distance so you're probably not shooting them from distance unless you accidentally hit them while shooting at someone else (which is rare, but it does happen, trust me...). If I could just get up and retreat without being shot when an enemy got a bit too close to me, I'd basically never get hit and it takes away one of the biggest weaknesses of the play style. I also imagine that people will abuse the rule to not take their hits. As soon as someone sees them or is about to hit them, "ah, you're too close, I'm moving away now!" Stupid rule

Nice review! I played there when it was the venue for AI500 and I'd 100% use a bolt action there. They didn't let us for the AI500 I went to there and I spent the whole weekend outside the buildings thinking "I wish I had my m700..." with all the long sight lines I could abuse; got my nicely upgraded pistols for indoors anyway! Would be a lot better if we could shoot in and out of windows, but from what I remember they basically don't open so it would be impossible to work that without breaking them. 120 players is a lot better than the 400 we had at AI500, as one of my main bits of feedback from that one was "I can't see this working for more than 200 players total. 250 at a push because it gets very choke pointy very quickly." It is a fantastic site itself though, so I'm glad that UCAP are using it and seem to be running it well from what you're saying. Not *too* far from me, though I don't think you'll see me doing many trips because it's still a 2 hour drive.

Who said anything about a line and tank? (I'm a Wraith X enjoyer; hated having an external line on my m14 getting caught on everything) Upside is I still get all the benefits and the silence. Downside is I get about 600 shots before I'm empty, which is more than enough for a skirmish day, but not enough for a larger weekend event like AI500 or Shift Your RIFTs where I have to use co2 bulbs instead (about 1 mag per 12g bulb) Yeah, .3s are way too light for a DMR. I use .32s in my regular 1.1J guns and pistols, and even go for .48s when running my bolt actions at 1.1J as well though I won't tend to go heavier than .32s in my 1.1J guns outside of that; there's a cost-benefit trade off, and also a "point blanking with .48s is a dick move" consideration.
