Effort is clearly an issue for you, like making the effort to play a site 3 times in no less than 56 days, not exactly difficult though ?

(Unless your like me & for a long time couldn't find a site I liked enough to commit to🤔

Surely the downside to your cosplay defence is you're restricted to the limited number of retailers that accept it, & potentially screwed over on the price, compared to the relative ease of EVERY retailer accepting ukara, allowing you to shop around

Also, what's the situation on importing rifs on a cosplay defense.

I have a disabled child that needs 24/7 care, the odd time I get free, I go to airsoft, so please do not assume or judge or make comments you no nothing about, effort is not a issue for me.

@superwok  what is it exactly that your looking to buy from a retailer ?

I only ask as I haven't bought a rif from a retailer for about 15 years, probably the last time I had a valid ukara, anything Ive needed generally comes up in the classifieds at a greatly discounted price, & Tbh I've not had any gats let me down, only time that happened was a retailers website brand new ca mp5.

I recently purchased an EMG Noveske N4. My local store does not stock this. Occasionally, I see similar rifs listed here and my past experiences buying and selling rifs through this platform have been positive.

However, I'm cautious with ads claiming the item is 'brand new,' 'never skirmished,' or 'used only in the garden,' especially when the asking price is nearly identical to a new item's cost. I prefer purchasing from retailers, so I can try them out, with the option to return if unsatisfied. Also with the added security provided by my credit card and to avoid the hassle of resolving issues with second-hand rifs not being as described.

This forum is great for many things, like advice, selling and buying, dragging out threads over 6 pages from a simple question but you have very little protection over sales, other than paypal.

  3. If you have a bitter taste in your mouth because you feel as if you earn a UKARA because you play so often then take it up with the retailers.

I have been playing airsoft for just over 10 years now, In my 20's I could go every week but not so much now, so to it from the other side, I see it as a punishment that I cannot buy a new rif because I haven't been able to play as much as I used to, to keep an active UKARA

  4. Using the insurance for its intended purpose seems pointless, yet it has allowed me to acquire multiple RIFs without the requirement for them to be two-toned. This long discussion brimming with passionate opinions and thoughts boils down to a simple truth:

If you're buying it strictly as insurance, then indeed, it's an unnecessary expense. However, if you're spending £20 to bypass the two-tone requirement for purchasing a RIF — especially as a casual player unable to attend games monthly to secure a UKRA but still eager to invest in something new — then it proves to be invaluable.

Thanks to this Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance, I've successfully purchased 3 RIFs.

Now, you may or may not agree with this method, but any concerns should be directed at the retailer accepting it; it's their responsibility to decide whether to sell or not.

  5. DanBow  UCAP are committed to hosting realistic skirmishes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an authentic atmosphere. As such, brightly colored guns are prohibited to prevent them from detracting from the experience also, modified firearms, like a pistol equipped with an M4 magazine that is HPA tapped , are not allowed on the sites. Every event I've attended has been exceptionally well-organized, and spots usually  sell out quickly. I would highly recommend the gloucester prison site.

    GenuineGerman

yes they do you get £5 million of cover with zero excess fee to pay

DanBow.   chances are they wouldn't be able to tell but lets not forget, you would be breaking the law if you modify a rif by spraying it,

  6. Regardless of personal opinions or suspicions, the Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance is a means to acquire RIFs. While not universally accepted, it aligns with the requirements of certain retailers. A UKARA is essential for purchasing, though not for owning, an RIF, presenting an alternative approach. It's important to note that the validity of claims is generally low, as airsoft events usually offer public liability insurance. Carrying RIFs in public contravenes the law, and insurance invariably excludes illegal activities. Thus, the Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance is an alternate solution, with any issues to be resolved by the accepting retailers.

Many have expressed frustration here, which is pointless in this forum but meaningful action requires more than voicing discontent. I encourage you to advocate for change by contacting retailers to discontinue its use of the Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance m and engaging with your local MP about this issue. Debating here often circles back to the same points without progress. My initial query was to identify which retailers accept this insurance, not to collect opinions because it is boring now. If change is your goal, I suggest moving from discussion in this forum to actually action.

@superwok If you could post up the policy wording, or pick out a couple of points such as the underwriter and the sections on what they actually cover then that would be highly informative on any actual value of JustCos

For those who have been around the block a few times, it’s just fleecing players of an extra £20

The policy is the key unknown

The confirmation ultimately rests with the retailer. I have inquired about their willingness to proceed, and they have consented. Therefore, it hinges on the retailer's terms and conditions whether they choose to accept or reject. Should the retailer be dissatisfied, they have the right to refuse, by accepting, they take on the associated responsibilities.

    Note that to be pedantic:

for an adult buyer in the UK it is always legal to acquire a RIF

any offence is committed by the retailer

By asking for a photo of you playing at an airsoft event they have not committed an offence under the VCRA, as they have been able to reasonably confirm intent to play airsoft at an insured site.

What they have also managed to do is to con you into spending £20 on ‘cosplay insurance’ which bears no relevance to the VCRA or to playing an airsoft event

What does the Just Cos insurance certificate insure you for?

Their web page says that it provides Public Liability insurance in their right as a re-enactor to wear and carry costume articles that may prove alarming or ‘scary’ to third parties who may not understand our purpose. This policy particularly covers the right to carry imitation weaponry that could otherwise be mistaken as real or mistakenly reported as an offensive weapon.”

What injury / damage is your JustCos going to pay out for a third party being alarmed or scared?

    https://www.just-cos.co.uk

The skirmisher defence under the VCRA requires the site/event to have public liability insurance, for the injury of you/third parties or the damages/losses to you/third parties.

This £20 my be a con to you but not to me, this has allowed me to buy the RIF I want without the need of it being two toned, (also the sites I play at the most do not allow 2 tone rifs) or having to attend the 3 games needed for the UKRA, so it has saved time and hassle on my part.

  8. Just wanted to provide an update...

I spoke with the retailer, and they requested the Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance certificate along with a photo of me participating in an airsoft event. After reviewing these, they were satisfied, proceeded with processing my order, and confirmed that it will be delivered on Monday.

For the casual players who may not have the opportunity to attend events regularly. It presents an alternative path to legally acquire a RIF from a UK-based retailer.

  9. JinxDuh, hats off to the marathon of efforts you've embarked upon for this cause.

In a twist of fate, my inbox turned treasure chest with a couple of direct messages, leading me to unearth a few hidden retailer gems. Thus, the coveted rifle is on its way, sidestepping the need for any two-tone disguise. A hearty salute to you and the fellow enthusiasts whose passion, effort, and, let's face it, endearing nerdiness keep the wheels of this hobby spinning. You nerds are the unsung heroes of this saga.

  10. It's not intended to be rude. My original question was straightforward, and while I received an answer, the focus shifted to my inability to attend a game for UKARA qualification—a topic that diverges from my main concern. Discussions on this and your views on the rules, though possibly well-intentioned, don't align with my query, therefore I don't care. My interest is solely in obtaining a list of retailers accepting the Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance. Beyond that, additional commentary isn't pertinent to my needs. This isn't personal; I'm simply aiming to keep the conversation focused on relevant information.

  11. Colin Allen, please don't spend too much time being baffled by my inability to access registered gaming sites for at least two months, such as the third game occurring 56 days or more after the first. It's not something you need to concern yourself with. Also, I honestly don't care about anyone else's thoughts or feelings regarding whether you agree with the cosplay insurance or the sportsman association defense. This matter is up to the retailer, and at the end of the day, nothing is stopping me from getting it two-toned and then spraying it black anyway. So, let's keep this on topic, and if you want to moan, please start a new thread.

also GenuineGerman this is a hobby I enjoy it's very much for me, so I will keeping playing but thanks for your advice and concern

I know you're asking for a tech, but how confident would you feel doing it yourself if needed?

I had the SD version and its very easy to work on. One pin holds the hop unit and barrel in, and then it all slides out of the guns receiver. The unit itself is easier than some to work on aswell.

I did it myself in the end, you were right it is really easy, thanks !

  13. its the changing of the barrel and the bucking I am concerned the most about and installing an npas, I have no tech skill here
