Survival Near Torrington, 2nd May, Who's in?
Nick G replied to Dacks_18's topic in Skirmish Sites, Stories & Reviews
I'll be there, along with asorted repaired pistols and mags ! 🤣🤣 And a bunch of guns I havn't run for a while. Trying to get out of the habbit of always taking the same ones -
Glad you had a good day, they are a decent bunch at Survival. I knew I was picking up Matt's combat master to look at , Chris's mags were a complete surprise 🤣 Looking forward to playing on 2nd !

Go along, get chatting to folk and have fun !

At the moment they are limiting to 30 players which makes for nice tactical play. In terms of teams, it's often one barn against the other but you can request to be on the same side if there is someone you know. Safe zone is sub devided at the moment to keep everyone spaced apart for covid.

Do a full day, you'll be having too much fun to want to do a half !. Not sure what their rentals are these days ,but they are reliable and get the job done. I'm actually booked in myself for 2nd May , more than happy to show you around etc if you book for that one.

Let me know when you do 👍

Certainly is ! and it's my usual 'go to' I actually inherited the green mtp from a mate . But at least mtp can be made to work somewhere Lol, mtp doesn't actually work anywhere 🤣
-
I'll try and get some ....... if I can spot it 🤣

I've got a set of mtp thats been dyed green, actually now works in woods !

I use red mainly because i like the little bit of extra kick , and it hasn't caused me any issues so far. Tend to run my pistols on it too. Obviously it's better in colder weather anyway. I've got the L85, G36C and my L119 which is based on a WE M4. The Stanags suffer more with cooldown than the G36 ones . I find keeping a hand warmer in the mag pouches helps in cold weather . The 'double' Stanag is quite nice, more rounds and a much bigger gas reserve, however they make the L85 a bit awkward due to the bulpup design. The hop in the L85 and M4 platform is a bit of a faff to adjust but is fine once dialed in. The G36 hop is much easier to adjust. All of mine have an NPAS fitted so I can set the fps on any given day. The bolt stop on the M4 is a bit hit and miss , I'm looking into fitting a real steel one, just waiting for it to arrive. Worth replacing the hop rubber, I use Maple Leaf which I find work well for me. I havn'y had any serious failures with any of them, the usual GBB O ring issues now and then and that's about it. They get striped and serviced regularly which I enjoy . When parts fail I'll take a view on replacing with stock or 'upgraded' parts but so far I've not had to replace anything. I know WE are not everyones cup of tea , but I have the GBBRs and probably half a dozen pistols from them and havn't had any issues with any of them .

Love my WE L85. bought it as an unknown at an airsoft jumble and restored it. It's fun to run and very easy to work on. I have 3 WE GBBRs which all get gamed from time to time, they run on red gas all year round. The 30 round mags require a different game style, but I enjoy playing sneaky and using single shot . Part's will no doubt wear although I havn't as yet replaced any failed parts on any of them. They require more looking after than an AEG but I enjoy that aspect of them TBH. Get one, you'll love it ! Everything I've seen suggests the CO2 mags are very prone to leaking. I tend to run red gas in mine all year. Might try black at some point. Nick

Would there even be space in a 1911 mag for ejecting shells and gas ? possibly if the mag only held 5 or 6 shells I guess
-
Bizarely given that I'm not a huge 1911 fan I've ended up with 4 of them, although a couple of those are ones I've built up from parts. The big issue with them is the mag size, they only hold half as many BBs as a Glock type and much less gas and because the mags are slim they suffer cooldown if used rapidly. TM ones are better because they are full polymer so the lighter slide helps. I've just got a John Wick combat master as a boneyard gun which I sorted and that's quite fun . It's basically a Hi Capa so a grown up 1911. Hi capas are popular and there are loads of upgrades available. Personally though my go to pistols when I play pistol only games are the G18 and my P226. Both are WE and both upgraded but I found them ok out of the box. Only shell ejecting gun I've goit is a KAR98 which is a scream to plink in the garden with but I'd never take it to a game as I'd be spending half the day looking for my brass, so no experience of ejecting 1911's I'm afraid. At the end of the day any reasonable GBB pistol will be fun to use. Be sure to learn proper maintenance , GBBs need a bit more looking after than electric guns, but plenty of decent videos on youtube.

Has some metal inners, trigger group etc, but frame and slide are polymer, but yes it's a GBB. Cant say for sure about your raven mag in it, I know they work ok in a WE so I would imagine they will fit, but my Army Armament 1911 will not take WE mags, so may not fit. Only thing would be to try and see. Like I said earlier I've no direct experience of that version but a mate has one and is impressed with it. Green gas should be fine and .20 BBs will work although heavier would be better for skirmishing.

Internally, it's worth fitting a Maple Leaf hop rubber and think about getting a Real steel charging handle . You may need an NPAS if you dont already have one, all my GBBR's have run hot out of the box. My GBBR L119 A1 is based on a WE and has a number of real steel fittings. Buffer tube, pistol grip, stock, charging handle and carry handle. I've got a RS bolt catch to try too at some point. As Cyberlawyer said the 416 front would require the correct upper too. But plenty of railed fronts available if that's what you are looking for. Nick

You could go that way if you wanted to, If you stick to a G18 or 17 (I'd get the 17 if I got another as I never use the full auto) then your existing mags should fit so i'd sell it with one mag and keep the other. Personally I'd get the WE version, mine has never failed me, gets used hard and runs on red gas all year . They are easily upgraded later on with maple leaf parts, mine has a rubber , I key , hop wheel and crazy jet barrel (same as all my pistols) but I play my pistols regularly, they are fine out of the box TBH. Although a mate has the Army Armament all polymer one and is impressed with it. It will be more gas efficient being all poly , I just like metal on my pistols. NEW! Army Armament R17 (17) 3rd Generation GBB Airsoft pistol - Black - Airsoft World Cheap option too

Personally I'd get the part and fix it, I agree with your Dad , the best way to learn how to tech your guns is to work on them, and I enjoy the teching aspect of the sport which is why I fix guns for mates. Other folk will disagre and say get rid, but I enjoy fixing them. Raven pistols seem to be a mix, I know some that have had issues with them and I know some who have never had a problem, but if it breaks and you fix it you are learning new skills which is never a bad thing. My WE 18C is several years old and has been used hard and the hammer unit is still going strong, so it is likly that the replacement part will last a long time. I'd wait untill youve played enough to get your UKARA before getting an AEG, go play and rent a gun a few times. That'll give you chance to ltalk to people about their guns and maybe try a couple of platforms before you buy your own (you might prefer an AK or G36 over an M4) Nick
-
You certainly could do that and keep the existing for spares.
-
It does look like that, the 17 had done the same thing but no amount of stripping and reasembly would free it up. Someone alse had tried replacinf some parts before it came to me and the new unit was the best option at that point. Nick
-
That's what I'd do, at this point. The hammer unit on the 17 I did wasnt going to be an easy fix. That unit should fit yours fine. The pin will push out but will need some persuading. Tap it out with a hammer and punch if it really wont move. No worries, hope that sorts it for you Dude. If you take a look at the image, you can see a hole each side low down on the unit, that'll be where the pin goes through. Hammer was stuck down on the 17 too so unit should come out ok.
-
I'm trying to remember if the pin at the back of the grip needs removing, and I cant for the life of me remember ! Can take a bit of a jiggle to seperate the trigger bar from the assembly. Does it move at all with the screw out ? Try removing the pin, just in case. Nick

I'd pop this up in the gas guns section, probably get a quicker response. Milspec solutions are my usual go to for gas parts though. Nick
