Pedants built the internet! Well, the pedantic parts of it, anyway.

It's more than either. ETU just means a microswitch to turn the trigger circuit on and off. MOSFET really just means a relay to allow higher current flow - you can get mosfets that do only that, like the Gate X-ASR or basic Perun. However, most airsoft "MOSFETS" do more, and the DE system is quite well featured with burst modes and a wanker-gun binary triggers. That's my knowledge of it tapped out, I'm not sure if it does pre-cocking or not, which is more of a CQB concern. It's pretty good for the price, is the take-away point, and cheaper than adding something equivalent like a Perun AB++ to pretty much any stock gun. You have to go up to a Specna Arms Edge 2.0 and its optical Gate Aster control system to get (maybe) a little get more bang, for a bit more buck. That's a very specific question which can only be answered by someone who has an example of each. I have no robustness concerns about any of my "polymer" guns, from a JG G36 with moderately decent plastic, to bargain basement CYMA M4 and Galaxy MP5K with quite toyish shells. My Specna Edge alloy receiver does feel a little more tacticool, but it's very subjective. G&G Raider plastic guns, for example, also feel pretty nice in the hand. Hopefully someone will speak up about how the DE plastic measures up, but ultimately it'll come down to how much it tickles your digits. I wouldn't rule out polymer guns, at least until you've compared and contrasted personally.

All very sage. If possible, buy in person after trying. No swaps, no PayPal Friends and Family. Be aware that while you're legally OK to buy or try and buy a RIF without a defence, the sort of person that you'll want to buy from is also the sort of person who might ask to see some form of defence for selling it to you. You'll often find folk at your local site with stuff to sell, which ticks most of the boxes above (in person, try-before-buy, and they know what you'll be using it for). One of the most annoying things about Facebook is that it cracks down on any hint of "want 2 buy" remotely related to toy guns, so you may have to actually ask around on site.

Have you heard the good news, friend? The M90XY range all look to have the same internals, i.e. gearbox, fire control system, rotary hop and quick change spring. The differences are in the stock, the barrel length, and the construction materials, with alloy receivers or handguards adding more cost and a bit more weight. That won't effect the performance one whit - the BB really doesn't know or care, absent some arguments about barrel stabilisation that are more of a concern for long barrelled DMR builds. For a UK spec 1.1J AEG, barrel length isn't that important, and anything over 6" is just bragging. Decent polymer can be tougher than ropey Chinesium pot metal, so don't let that put you off either. Given the parlous stock situation at the moment, it's really a question of finding the one that'll give you the hardest PP when shooting a BB, that's in budget and in stock.

Your observations of reality have no bearing on our predictions of inevitable doom. It's airsoft, it's a miracle when anything works at all. I wouldn't worry about it until something (else) breaks.

New player situated in the North West
Rogerborg replied to Karl Serjeant's topic in New Players & Arrivals
IT'S NOT A DEFENCE, IT'S A LICEN- Oh, no, wait, as you were. Ahoy and welcome. Sounds like you'll get on fine, and you've already found that airsofters are a welcoming lot. There's no right or wrong way to get into it, just whatever works for you. Renting is perfectly sensible, and lets you find out if you actually enjoy the process of playing. Some people love the toys, but hate being shot, while others run around with a springer pistol moaning and shuddering in pleasure. Blag a go on a variety of toys to see what you prefer, and if you crack and decide that you really don't want to wait 8 weeks, well, paint comes off. -
I strongly suspect that's the magic phrase. Stuff bought from AliExpress claims it too. Not that I have any real belief that it's actually being paid, but the incantation is there on the package.

Petty minds think alike: I was scrolling down to post the exact same thing. I was even hearing the "splat" sound in my head. I sometimes wonder whether WuTube videos get more people into the hobby long term, or if they mostly just result in "bargain" packages like this cluttering up the classifieds. Good news for manufacturers and retailers either way, which is doubtless why they sponsor "influencers".

At this point I'm starting to question my own existence. This right here is why I don't Facebook.

Best delivered-to-door 2.32J spring sniper for non poors?
Rogerborg replied to Rogerborg's topic in Single Action Guns
TAC-41, and I'd rather buy new since I'm spending someone else's money. Althouuuuuugh... 🤔 [EDIT] @Skullchewer very selfishly flogged his SRS to some chancer who turned up with cash today, so I've pulled the fully adjustable trigger on a new TAC-41 from Skirmshop. While I like the bullpup form factor, the TAC-41 gets lots of love, rotary TDC hop looks like the future, plus that bolt and spring change! -
Should be fine in CQB, although loading and unloading to show clear might get a bit old. I'd be tempted to run them all on bits of paracord tacticool lanyards, and just drop them while on an epic killstreak rather than reholstering or even fumbling for a dump-pouch.

Best delivered-to-door 2.32J spring sniper for non poors?
Rogerborg replied to Rogerborg's topic in Single Action Guns
After a funding call with my backer, I'll be pulling the fully-adjustable trigger on a purchase tomorrow after a call to ask about wut spring 4 unlimated powah. One one hand, I appreciate that Silverback quote their springs in Newtons, and I understand that Joule creep is a very real thing. It does make it somewhat of a guess to know what to chuck in there though. 100N or M140, could go either way. -
I am properly sorry to hear that. I sort-of know-them feels after I gave up swords-and-axes historic reenactment a decade or so ago, before I got injured doing it - and I've still got a loft full of steel, wood and wool that I've been unable to bear to part with. 🙄 Now I'm onto airsoft, and then there will be something after that. So I'm sure you'll find something rewarding too. Fishing, extreme ironing, whatever floats your boat. Best of luck with the sales, I'm sure plenty of us will be watching like hawks feathered avians.

Oh, now that I think about it, I hit a problem with the aftermarket barrel and Maple Leaf hop rubber not going deep enough into the hop unit. It was a real struggle to get it in deep enough to get the C-clip on, and the barrel was straining to escape. Eventually I ran a drill bit into the hop unit from the front and (by hand and very carefully) relieved it by half a mm or so. That made all the difference, and now it's sealed like a champ.
-
Including the nozzle? Did you measure it up against the stock one? I ask because the hop units are rather fussy, and as we know a fraction of a mm is all it takes. For reference I'm seeing a full 0.95J ("320fps") out of my Galaxy MP5K with (I think) a 6.01mm barrel, M100 spring, and either the stock cylinder or a 3/4, I don't recall offhand, but not a full one either way. Stock piston and nozzle. Absolutely stock with the sloppybore barrel and whatever spring it came with it wasn't far off that at 0.9J / ~310fps or so. There's no particular reason it should be as low as yours other than air seal.

Getting back into airsoft after many years?
Rogerborg replied to SussexMatt's topic in New Players & Arrivals
The great thing about airsoft is that a stranger's just a friend that you haven't asked about their gun yet. -
He's literally reposting military memories. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=michael.j.thomas.779&set=a.1243735946999 It's good to be cautious, but I suspect that you may have strayed into paranoia here.

Oh, they do look fun, especially for CQB or as a sniper secondary. As a woodland primary they might struggle. The internals are based on electric pistols, and there's a very small cylinder volume to work with. You can put in stronger springs (see Eagle6.co.uk TM AEP springs) but they're always going to be limited in muzzle energy. As stock, they come with a specific nimh battery that I believe is very slightly different from the similar-but-not-identical battery used by most AEP (auto-electric-pistols). Probably the best thing you can do for it is to bin that off and replace the standard push-in battery connector with a Deans, Mini-Deans or even a JST plug, and use a small 7.4v lipo battery, whatever will fit in the battery compartment. Even with a tiny 300mAh / 35C/70C (i.e. 10.5A - 21A) lipo, I got much better trigger response from my CYMA AEP.

<you-lucky-lucky-bastard.gif> Great to hear common sense being applied at the border, although it looks like you really were just lucky on the TaiwanGun package.
-
Thanks, it's good to hear that it's do-able in person. Were you asked to show any evidence of a defence on entry to the UK? In 2021/2022?

Indeed, that's the first suggestion that Facebook made. Fousands of friends, I'm sure some of them are quartermasters. The profile I linked to is a closer match to what OP was saying. Either he's found completely the wrong profile, or I'm wondering if it's some sort of unconvincing robot account created to very badly mimic the high-friend-count "real" Michael Joseph Thomas in name only. The ??? was a general invitation to comment on that, I don't Facebook and have no idea what sort of shenanigans are popular there these days.

The saddest part is that a dishonest scrub like that is "playing" airsoft. I can't imagine it's to the same rules as decent people.
-
Yes, the "iMax B6" is an (old) model of SkyRC charger. There are loads of knock offs around, and videos showing how to tell the difference. A genuine one should have a hologram sticker underneath it with a code that you can check. That said, if in doubt, just buy an S65, it's much newer technology in a more compact package.
-
Hmm, that doesn't seem right. Is the air seal good right to the end of the barrel, rather than just at the nozzle?
