How to attract new players to Airsoft?
EDcase replied to GenuineGerman's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, of course the acceptance of gun culture is MUCH higher in the US. Prices seem on par with over here, maybe a bit lower for BBs and RIFs. Only $300-800 into your RIFs? If only I had that much in em 🤣 -
Foil & Saber fencing use simple electrical circuits in a limited space where the two participants are tethered with a cable to the control box. I've thought about it before and honestly don't know how accurate scoring could be achieved with airsoft. The closest related tech would be laser tag but that is obviously more accurate than blowing BBs out of a tube so they wouldn't be compatible. Personally I'd be happy to drop the whole BB firing thing to be replaced with low power laser or IR and mechanical recoil. It would essentially be a version of laser tag with more realistic weapons. I'd miss making holes in paper targets of course but worth it I think to eliminate the honour system. (And no, I'm not going to bugger off to play laser tag instead because they don't use RIFs 😄) But having a robust scoring system would be the first step to making it a legitimate sport. Although the premise of people 'shooting' each other in mock combat for fun may still have some opposition.

How to attract new players to Airsoft?

Yeah, spreading the word is hard. Some might hear about it if they've played paintball. Others randomly find airsoft gameplay on YT (that doesn't put them off) Talking to friends about it can be awkward. One of my biker friends plays but the others give me funny looks when I explain that its a bunch of wannabe soldier blokes shooting each other with toy guns in the woods 😁 And gets even worse when I explain that its an honour game where there can be cheating... 🙄 We really are a rare breed 😜 -
The problem with airsoft as a real competitive sport is its just too easy to cheat.

I think trigger parts for toys that cannot be converted to fire live ammo would be exempt. (Airsoft RIFs must already have been proven not to be convertible otherwise they would be banned) UK shops sell trigger parts and other stuff for airsoft RIFs without any issue so I think you'd be OK. The question is: Is there enough demand? Depends how much it costs to make them...

Would be helpful if you could include the links to them so we can compare specs It might just be a different stock.

Wosport Tracer III More info https://www.bespokeairsoft.co.uk/wosport-spitfire-flame-tracer-14mm-ccw-3-5-black Quite weighty at 153g Comes with USB charging cable. Pics showing on an AAP-01 and MP5K for scale (Note: It would not work like this on the AAP-01 as the barrel is inside) Note: Not a flash tracer like a Spitfire.£30

Just to put it in perspective, green gas is around 130 psi and Co2 canisters/bulbs are around 800 psi The Mag itself should have an exit valve which reduces the gas volume to green gas levels but with such high pressures its usually a bit higher. Any pistols that are Co2 capable (come with a Co2 mag) should have a Co2 rated nozzle valve which are stronger and allow less gas through so the fps is within standard range. If the pistol is not Co2 specific then it may fire very spicy and potentially destroy itself over time.

How to you carry your 209 Primers on the field?

I also used a tic tac box but they make too much noise. I now use a cloth pouch with drawstring to close. (still looking for the hero carrier 😉) -
Was it in front or behind you? 🤣

What have you just 3d printed (for airsoft)
EDcase replied to sp00n's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Yeah that's true. I guess you don't want to round off precision corners 😉 What about UV cured resin for added strength and smoothness to the nozzle? -

Sorry I wasn't clear. Its vapour smoothing OR dipping. The problem with vapour is getting even coverage (as the vapour is heavier than air and settles) and knowing when to stop. Apparently dipping directly in Isopropyl?/acetone is a method that can result in more even smoothing but does need quite a lot in a tub. (Can be reused for this purpose) Can obviously be repeated to smooth more. -

Impressive modelling. What material do you use? Have you tried vapour or dipping for smoothing parts? -
I've found a 30w Raycus galvo fibre laser for a reasonable price. Since most of my toys are the cheap non trades versions I would do my own first of course (after lots of testing 😁) Yes, I would certainly only offer the service to others after extensive testing. They do have a preview feature to make sure the placement is correct so I'm not worried about that. Yeah, it would definitely be MUCH easier if people could disassemble the parts to be worked on. No, I couldn't do curved parts. Actually I think the hardest part would be making the pattern files for the various trades and logos. (Does anyone know anywhere to download images or vector files for various trades?) Thank you guys for your thoughts.

@Polyscript You have to understand that our hobby is hated by many people including some in authority and even government. Not wanting to sound like some of the gun nuts across the pond, but we are wary of anyone who might bring bad publicity to the ownership of replica firearms. Past incidents have already brought tighter controls and anything new would bring us closer to an outright ban like in Australia.
