It may be coincidence but this is the only site where I've been hit (in the eyebrow above my eyepro) that actually drew blood. It was a 10m shot from a pistol (probably Co2) Pistols don't generally get tested at sites I know but Co2 ones are not allowed.

Personally I don't think BFGs or pyro should be louder than a 209 primer. Definitely not indoors. There's no need to go louder than that as everyone in the 'kill' zone will definitely hear it. Blank firing guns at airsoft events may add to immersion for milsim games but not necessary for general game days. I think UK has more noise restrictions than the US sites. I'm sure there would be resident complaints if sites had constant semi and auto blank fire.

Yeah, I already know that (shocker) I'm talking on Earth... ...and its funny that the same isn't true for airsoft BBs because of the magnus effect. With the power of a sniper rifle its interesting that the bullet still drops at the same speed.

Here's an interesting gun fact which still intrigues me. If you fire a canon, rifle or pistol perfectly horizontally over a flat surface and drop an equal projectile at the same moment, they will both hit the ground at the same time. 🤩

You don't necessarily have to get a plastic rifle as the first. There are many sub £200 metal ones that perform perfectly well for starting out. CYMA, JG and SpecnaArms are well regarded in the bang-for-buck ratio.

Airsoft BBs use the magnus effect to fly straight so the backspin influences the distance a BB can fly. Unlike a real bullet, the higher speed of an airsoft fired BB does not necessarily equal longer range. The speed and weight must be perfectly matched to its backspin.

Welcome Carl (you youngster) All those in your list are good but are you sure you want to sink that kind of money into the hobby straight away? As Roger said, there are quite a few people selling their purchases for various reasons soon after getting them. Do a search for 'best starter gun' and read some of the previous posts on the subject. You can get a decent shooting gun for under £200 and although it won't have recoil or last round hold you'll get some good experience and better able to decide what to buy next. Plus its always good to keep your first gun as a backup. EDIT: Buying second hand may not be a good choice without a bit more experience. If you get something that isn't performing well or has a problem you won't know about it or be able to fix it immediately. Better to get something that has a known performance and with more experience you'll know what looks or sounds suspicious in a sale. We always advise to rent for your first 3 games so you can be registered with UKARA and it will give you some experience and influence your future choice of weapon... Having a UKARA number also allows you to buy a realistic looking gun.

Yeah, I think everything got confused by referring to the video as an example of lower velocity = more energy into target which ONLY applies to hollow point spin stabilized projectiles. Saying that lower energy = lower velocity or heavier projectile = lower velocity is just following the formula so not in contention. Are we all happy? 😁

Its a bit more complicated than that with airsoft BBs. Look up 'Joule Creep' but... Yes, a heavier BB will go slower and possibly further because its less affected by wind but that's nothing to do with what the video is showing.

I've had a few of mine (cheaper makes) for about 4 years with no degradation except a layer of dust. I doubt they'll deform unless in a poor environment like a garage or loft where they're exposed to extreme temperatures in summer & winter. Those in your list will be made of the higher end metal so I doubt you'll have any problems. Airsoft replicas will not look like blued steel if you want that effect (eg for an AK) but going by your list they would be painted/cerakoted anyway so should look 99.9% authentic. If the airsoft version is cheaper than a deac then go for it.

I believe what the video shows is the guy finding the best energy/speed for the hollow point to open fully to its maximum without over deforming. The higher speed/energy caused the bullet to deform too much (hollow point folding over itself or tearing the rim off completely) resulting in a smaller cross sectional area therefore higher penetration. Again, this has no relevance to BBs

Perhaps I misunderstood your original point but if you're saying less speed equals more energy at the target then you've got something wrong there.

BBs don't deform on impact so the energy dissipation is not equivalent to hollow point bullet dynamics. Energy dissipation is proportional to projectile cross section area which is why hollow points dump all the energy so quickly. Energy = 1/2mv² Where m=mass and v=velocity Because it doesn't deform the energy dissipation of a BB will not change so lowering v will result in less energy at the target.

I don't think the video has any relevance to BB ballistics. First off he's using hollow points which don't have an equivalence in airsoft. What he's 'discovering' is the well understood projectile speed vs impact damage trade-off. This is the fundamental dilemma between the two most common military rounds. Slower 7.62 will do more damage to un armoured target but less penetration to armoured ones. Higher speed 5.56 has more penetrating ability for armoured targets but less damage to unarmoured ones. But none of this applies to BBs using the magnus effect.

Yeah Tim, don't fiddle if it ain't broke. Adding buffers to short stroke is easy enough if you want to do that but its silly to throw money and time at a pistol when you're new to it all. Use it as is for a few games and learn by talking to others. Then you'll have a better idea if you want to upgrade a specific part or buy a new base gun and go from there.

Yeah, that's a good charger (Same one I have) Use 'Balance' charge mode. Hop rubbers may have deteriorated so be prepared to replace those but they're low cost and relatively easy to replace by you or a tech. Fitness is another matter 😉

Welcome back Simon 🖐 Yeah, if they charge with an intelligent charger they're fine. (What charger have u got?) You can get Lithium Ion (Li-On) batteries now but I haven't used any so duno if they're better. BBs will be fine. (Bios might be an issue so test a few to be sure) Nothin new except airsoft pew pews are much harder and more expensive to get with Brexit and Corona messing up supply. Very few European retailers ship to UK anymore. (Gunfire is the only one I know of that will)
