The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

I went up to Blackstone in Huntington again yesterday. Upstairs was out of use as they're redecorating and the supposedly dry in 48 hours paint was still wet, despite being done on Tuesday, but this wasn't a problem as numbers were low at only 15. It was my first time using a traser and i noticed straight away how much of a difference it makes knowing exactly where your shots are going All in all it was another excellent day despite the heat and the only negative was rushing to get the train with a minute to spare only to find out it had been cancelled4 points -

T238 Nano Traser
HZR13 and one other reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
The Nano tracer, as the name suggests, is the smallest traser unit made by T238 measuring 23mm by 53mm, making it roughly the size of a C cell battery and perfect for pistols and SMGs. Retailing at £30 I wanted to see if it's as good a bargain as it seems. It comes boxed with a very short charging cable and an adapter to fit 11mm pistol muzzle which brings us to me making a boo boo. The traser unit has reverse threads and after checking the fit of the adapter I accidentally tried to remove it turning it the wrong way with a pair of pliers for extra grip. I didn't put much pressure on it and the whole 11mm threads snapped off. This is 100% my fault but does make me question the quality of the metal used for it to break so easily. Fortunately I was able to get the thing off and fitted it to my MP5K. It has shake to wake with a cut off after 20 minutes of not moving. Oh and it also works with red traser bbs. In both testing and use in game yesterday in worked flawlessly with every bb being lit up brightly making it easy to adjust for any second shots Now the negatives. First there's the question of the strength of the adapter mentioned earlier. Next is the front and back end caps are both made of a frosted colourless plastic so every time the traser goes off the whole area around you is bathed in a blue light. I ended up covering them with gorilla tape to block it out but in the future I might take it apart and paint those bits. The last minus point is another small one. There's no master on/off switch so while travelling to and from site every time the traser unit moves it's switching itself on. Not a big problem but something to bear in mind. All in all I'd say it's a good piece of kit and at half the price of a Brighter C traser an option for those on a tighter budget 7/10 for now. If it does decide to play up I'll post it here2 points -

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread

As seems to often happen, I found myself back at Airsoft Plantation this morning. Tomo and Dan were absent, so I teamed up with a few other players I know. As we went out for the first game, a player's battery started smoking; this was dealt with efficiently and effectively by the marshals. The first game was a simple attack and defend in the woods (yay!). As the attackers, we had infinite regens on a marshal, while the defenders had two lives, one defending the wobbly bridge and the other defending a flag at long walk (it is called long walk because it is a long walk from the start point at the other end of the woods). Starting off on the left flank of our attack, I took out a few defenders and was then hit, so went in search of a marshal; having found one, I decided to move to the right flank as the woodland there is more open and easier to attack through. A large group of us swung wide to the right, hugging the edge of the playing area and pushing across the ditch just before the smoke grenade on wobbly bridge was detonated. With the first objective achieved, we continued our flanking movement, ending up attacking the flag at 90 degrees from our line of advance; it was secured and the game ended. The game was then turned around. I took up a position on the far right where a collection of fallen trees and a couple of ditches offer a number of interconnected positions. Early on, a couple of enemy players came by; I let them go past and then shot them from a distance, so that they would not know where the shots had come from. Soon after, a group of about 12 appeared; I let them go past and shot the rearmost four. The others went to ground; I potted a couple of them and could hear the others discussing where I was. This seemed to be a good time to reposition by using the cover of the ditch and the trees to fall back towards my colleagues. Unfortunately, as I moved back, one of those colleagues shot me by mistake, so I started the long walk to long walk, where I took up a position that covered both the flag and one of the main avenues through the woods. The latter provided a target rich environment and the MC51 scored a large number of hits before the flag was captured. I stayed out on the field, sitting on the bridge at the border, as the next game would see us attacking the village from there and I still had plenty of ammo. Other players eventually came out, as did a couple of marshals; from their radio chatter, it was apparent that they were looking for someone who was believed to still be out in the woods, possibly hurt. As I know them, I asked one of them who they were looking for; he looked at me, did a double take and said "you". Apparently, the guys had become concerned that I had not appeared in the safe zone and had told the marshals, who came looking for me. Anyway, for the next game, we had to get bombs to three targets in the village; we could regen on one of two marshals, one on the border and one on the firebreak, while the defenders had two lives. A group of us attacked along our right, overcoming determined opposition from two buildings before attacking across the conveniently dry pond to take the building behind it and move into that part of the village. The three targets were bombed in due course by part of our team who had swung right round the village and attacked from the rear, so we returned to the safe zone to take luncheon. Having dined and, as ever, marvelled at how Emily efficiently feeds so many players, the previous game was reversed. Defending the front edge of the village, I potted a good number of attackers before I was hit and fell back into the village woods to defend against any enemy attacking from the rear; quite a lot of them were and we had some great exchanges before they finally blew up the three targets. For the final game, both teams had to blow up a target in their opponents' base. Our target was the Bedford in the mortar pits, while theirs was the plane at the DEA base. Everyone could regen after falling back 30m and high fiving a colleague. I was with the group defending the plane; as the enemy could attack it from a 270 degree arc, we sent out a lot of small fighting patrols to intercept them, leading to many confused and messy encounters in the scrub. In one, I spotted a couple of chaps moving through the scrub; I shot the rearmost one and his companion and I exchanged shots, hitting each other. We shook hands and went to find colleagues to regen on; a marshal who had seen the encounter noted it as being a gentlemanly exchange. Eventually, the game timed out with neither side achieving their objective. It was an excellent, if rather warm and very humid, day of airsoft, with around 150 players present and some great play on both sides. It will probably be a while before I can play again, as I will be on Dartmoor next weekend (Hurrah!) and then have various other weekend commitments involving rehearsals and festival appearances. However, if I can squeeze a day in somewhere, I will. Weapons used Classic Army MC51 JG SA58 ASG XP18 Commander (CO2)2 points -

Thank you for the heads up, its one thing to recognise the dodgy pm's, but out of the 4 members he targeted, you were the only one to raise the alarm, without that he'd be free to keep sending pm's until he got lucky, especially targeting new members.1 point -

I was going to start a new thread regarding home made targets, but I found this! My crude outdoor target box. Bed slates, paddling pool, thin foam insulation and a lot of screws, pins and tacks. Very crudely put together. Top slates are removable, stripped a thick paddling into strips and tacked along each slate. Some thin foam insulation at the back of the box. Doesn't look pretty, but I works!1 point -

Sometimes it helps to very gently press back on the air nozzle when closing the gearbox shell. It's hard to make out in the photo but the spring in your trigger might be causing an issue. Here is a video which I found useful.1 point

Update: Following on from my last post where I mentioned a pair of Wrangler camo cargo trousers. They are a perfect fit and have the stretchy material I was looking for. They have plenty of room in the legs for movement but they are not massively baggy like those others. I order 44W 30L as thats my normal size and they were still a bit big around the waist so I returned and got 42W 30L and they are the best trousers I have owned for a long time. They fit so well I am going to grab another pair in black as everyday trousers! In case there are others who are not a fan of overly baggy trouser or are struggling to find a good fit, highly recommend these: Wrangler Authentics Men's Relaxed Fit Stretch Cargo Pant Casual (Amazon UK) They have sizes from 29"W - 50"W (29"L - 33"L) and a variety of colours. For airsoft use, Black, Tan, Olive Drab and Multicam are the most useful .1 point -

It’s a big site and love how varied it is, there’s plenty of structures / barricades etc to give you a load of different gameplay. Not found my way around the whole map yet but I’ve only played the site twice. Glad the the guy who went down is OK, I think I saw his Dad post he had run his legs off and gone down, glad he’s OK. The Marshalls handled it well and changed the last game on the fly which was impressive. I have family duties this coming weekend but like to play 2/3 times a month, spent a small fortune on kit so want to use it! I found the site after getting a free game from the Modern Warrior shop on the A20, if you spend over £150 in the shop they give you a free game, awesome business idea. I popped in on my home today to pick up my TM EBB AK which died. Ricky got it going again and fixed a few internal niggles to bring back up to scratch.1 point

Somewhat productive day in the SkunkWorks. Started off by modifying a silencer/tracer unit, wasn't so fond of the grooves in it and decided to copy the Specter one, but with 12 smaller flutes. Before: After turning the OD down, it was put in the rotary table and flutes were cut with an 8mm ball-nosed end mill. Bit of lousy paint.. And now it looks so much better. Very happy with the result. Next up was a silencer that i bought for my MP5K-PDW. It's some specific type that i didn't realise at the time, but that didn't matter. I made an insert that'd screw on to the threaded outer barrel, but go over the 3-lug QD and sit closer to the front sight block. Turned from 38mm ally, bored to clear the 3 lugs, threaded inside, with an external male thread to fit a tracer and hex flats milled too. It's secured to the outer body with a grub screw. Finished + fitted:1 point -
