Hey all, I am short sighted and wear prescription glasses. I need to wear my glasses to play Airsoft. I have tried to wear goggles over the top of them, but I just can’t get on with them.

Is there such a thing as prescription Airsoft safety specs? Any companies that specialise? Any advice much appreciated

I gave up and went on to contacts.  I hate them.  I ONLY wear them for airsoft and it's a major trauma getting the bastard things in.  My eyes water for 20 mins or so.  I have seriously never worn them anywhere else, but cheap disposables plus goggles is far better than pissing about with multiple lenses.  I found that prescription insert specs only worked with minimal physical movement.  OK for snipers perhaps.

Fancy helmet/mask set-ups are do-able but not for the themed games that I play, so you may find some decent suggestions for skirmishes.

Ess eye wear have models which carry inserts. You get the prescription lense fitted to the inserts and then they mount into the goggle. And I'm sure oakley do prescription eye wear in the balistic range, they do it for sun glasses.

I use ess eye pro and rate it highly, though I've not used the inserts as I wear contacts.

Alternatively i know a few folk who wear glasses under dye masks but I guess it would be dependant on what profile your glasses hold as to whether they'd fit under.

I wear glasses, but my eyesight is ‘good enough’ to play - my target may be a bit blurred and I could have to lead in my shots or get closer, so I have tried playing with glasses & inserts but rarely bother

I don’t fancy poking my eyes about so have never tried contact lenses

Common choices I’ve seen are:

Glasses - Dye I4s seem popular in airsoft but personally I’d recommend the VForce Grills/Grillz …. Which have been popular sellers for many years and only recently had a v2 come out.  (I have not had hands on to the v2, but it’s effectively a 2022 ‘upgrade’ to the v1)

Grills have a slit in either side of the foam to accommodate glasses

Depending on the goggle/glasses combination it can take a bit of practice of comfortably put them on / off (especially the taking off) without going into a tangle

Depending on your glasses it may be worth getting a small framed playing set.  Take your goggles to the opticians or use an online ‘try before you buy’ optician such as glasses direct (order 4 sample frames, try them with goggles at home, pick the most comfortable combination)

Prescription inserts work, there are a couple of brands that market themselves to paintball & airsoft but exactly the same thing is widely available for skiing.  Look online, pick a recommended insert style for your goggle type and send in your prescription

Local opticians will most likely be able to do them

I have a set, which are fine.  But I have a lot of goggles which means my prescription insert is in the goggles that I chose for a particular game, and have only been played in once or twice.  They don’t change the situation for me enough to swap to whichever goggles I choose at any one game

Contact lenses

From the users that I know, disposable ‘daily’ lenses are the way to go now rather than messing with cleaning and storing.

If you wear them occasionally then a months box will obviously last longer

As a glasses wearer, I just cant get on with contact lenses .

I currently use ESS ice with lens incerts and they have been very good for me. Been using them for over 10 years now. Yes they do fog a times but at the same time I have never used any anti fog products/tricks either. They tend to fog up most when I stop moving around, but soon clear up.

I am currently also waiting for some built in fans set of glasses that you can get prescription lenses for here.

I will let all know how they are once I get them.

Revision sawflys are great with an insert, and are very cheap on ebay due to them being surplus. The insert also works in their goggles too.

What brand of lenses are you using? WHile it may be that the optician hasn't got the right fit for you it may just be down to the quality of the lens (I use Acuvue Oasys and have no issues with watery eyes at all)

Not cheap but they do exist, just be sure that the ones you choose have an adequate rating.

Cheers mate, but the watery eyes are down to me irritating my eyes putting the things in.  I think its holding my eyes open with my fingers as I make the umpteenth attempt.  As I always camp at games, handwashing is via hand gel, and despite rinsing with bottled water, I usually still have some somewhere on my hands too.

I did get shown how to put the bastards in at the opticians, but I'm still useless.

Those are what I wear with prescription inserts however because of the expense of having to update various pairs of glasses if and when my prescription changes I'm looking more into contacts now. I never got on with full seal or mesh and I use my Wiley X's for RS shooting as well as they have interchangeable lenses much like some of the Revision range.
