Barny
Two questions in one really, i'm kinda fed up with bungie cords and bulky plastic pouches and the elastic ones have caught my eye. Various options from cheapy ones upwards. I like the idea of them being flat and out the way when they're empty, and think it will be a light streamlined loadout. But, are they any good? And secondly will they accept a 7.62 style mag as well as a 5.56 in the same pouch? Ta B

Ta B They're great if your looking to make your rig as light as possible, although you might then need to invest in some kind of dump pouch as shoving the empties back in in a hurry is pretty much impossible. Regards sizes, I've only seen them in sizes suited to armalite mags, which wouldn't then stretch to take an M14/fal mag. If I could find some in 7.62 I'd snap them up. Skara
I would avoid those BFG ten speed style pouches. Just because being elastic they tend to lose strength over time, especially the cheaper ones from FMA/Emerson/Viper/Whatever.
heroshark
I prefer something that's easier to get the mags in quickly so I don't need a dump pouch. I still keep some in more secure conventional velcro pouches and just cycle them through
PopRocket123
I picked up these a little while ago as I don't get on with the normal tacos. They work the same but the rubber material holds onto the mag better and holds its shape more so it's easier to put the mag back in. I've seen them used with all sorts of calibers, even .308 or 2 9mm mags although you can get ones specifically for these mags.

They come in magazine specific sizes and yes, you can get them for 7.62 mags but not in the same pouch (a 7.62 pouch will fit a 5.56 mag obviously it won't be retained as well). Taco pouches are the way if you want a "one size fits all" approach. Personally I prefer kydex retention in my pouches (like Esstac KYWI) to get rid of the bungees. heroshark
I stick inner tube rubber in my hard pouches.

RYoung22
Hi lads, thought I’d throw my 50p in.. always found luminae to be decent; https://www.luminae.co.uk/luminae-Mag-Pouches sounds quite similar to what you’re after & transitioning mags without a dump pouch is pretty easy with something like this too but it really is get what you pay for; they ain’t the cheapest

Spiritus Systems and Ferro Concepts do a similar product but with added pull tabs to ease re-indexing. https://www.spiritussystems.com/placard-5-56-x-45/https://ferroconcepts.com/collections/front-flaps/products/adapt-tear-front-flap

They're there to help you put the mag in in the first place (in the case of the Ferro ones they're for fitting bungees)
hitmanNo2
I think you're splitting hairs there to be honest. Indexing, re-indexing, initial insertion, whatever. Having that little tab to pull on helps massively when inserting mags when compared to the traditional BFG 10 speed. Once the pouches are a bit worn in, re-indexing is absolutely viable with these pouches. From SS "We have also added laminate loops on the outside of each cell to allow for the attachment of retention loops or to allow you to pull the pouch open to insert items more easily. kasaran
right, necroing this over starting a new thread. i got some viper single 7.62 pouches for my G3 which fits 2 mags in each. but they stick out really far, to the point that i cant place them anywhere that isnt blocking the movement of my body, preventing me from going prone or my arms moving. so i want to bin them and get 4 individual 'taco' or fast type pouches. i am however paranoid about loosing my mags. currently debating https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WoSporT-Tactical-Molle-Magazine-Mag-Single-Twosome-Triple-Pouch-Bag-For-7-62-mm/264521518682?hash=item3d96b60e5a:g:jZIAAOSwePhdv~mw or https://www.amazon.co.uk/Magazine-Holder-Tactical-Pouches-Fastmag/dp/B0863BDXJ7/ref=sr_1_7?crid=ICMYXCX5KP40&dchild=1&keywords=7.62%2Bmag%2Bpouch&qid=1606504798&sprefix=7.62%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-7&th=1 anyone got any experience or recommendations? Barny
A little update..... I didnt get round to buying anything from the above thread. I had one of these kicking around, Viper mag rig So i got bored one night and found out that with a bit of slack the 7.62's would fit. But I hated all the bungee cord and the extra pistol pouches too so I got busy and chopped the mag pouches off, restrung the main pouches and voila! It now looks like this Sits nice an flush to my chest and also doesnt hardly affect the gun when slung in fromt of me. Anotjher view Another view The centre pouch is fairly rigid, would prolly fit an M4 in there at a a guess I also bought these The G2H G&G 400rnd mags are fairly small and they fit fine in all configurations The Skorpion style ones ive not fitted yet as i want to trial the mag rig 1st Cheepy fast mags on the belt, with the wings on to aid refitting

I've got 4 of these fast mags that I'm selling. You definitely don't need to worry about the mags falling out they hold onto them really tight and are grippy inside. Though hesitant as they dont look to be the colour id go for. Why are g3 mags so stocky
