FNG Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Hi All, Not long purchased the above Magpul Special edition. FPS was 320, had that uprated to 420 and had a Mosfet put in and the Safety catch "pinned" so will only fire single shot. Had a problem with magazines not feeding, turned out to be the hop up (bucking?)was not seated correctly, back to the shop. Then I was getting a series of drop short BBs every other trigger pull, so back to the shop, its there as I write. Really, really disappointed with the range on it, I have a Cyma MP5 SD6 (with a few upgrades on it) that fires at 350 fps and its outranging the SR25!!! Mind you saying that as you can see from above, not really had a chance to get any bbs down range to test it. It is a nice solid good looking rifle (the most money I have ever laid out on one piece of kit)and I hope that when I pick it up this time(!) its 100% or may have to re-think and maybe refund. After all whats the point of a DMR that doesnt perform as a DMR??? Oh, batteries are 7.4v lipos. BBs are 0.25s. Magazine is the Pmag 140 rd that came in the box with it. Did buy two D-Boys sr25 mags which are absolutley useless.
Supporters M_P Posted May 14, 2014 Supporters Posted May 14, 2014 You should always expect to upgrade a gun if you want a sniper rifle or dmr, stock guns don't cut it. Swap out the hop rubber and barrel, they're weaker points in g&ps. The rubber isn't so bad but takes a very long time to wear in compared to most. Longshot and two_zero 2

Ive been wanting to build a DMR project since the day ive started but it seems so much hastle and money so ive disciplined myself to stay away from them. Airsoft_Mr B 1
FNG Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Hi M_P and CaptainDumbass, Thanks for replying. The shop put in a tightbore barrel and new hop up as part of the uprate (sorry, should have been upgrade). New faster motor (higher torque) also. So really dont understand the problem. But, pick it back up on Saturday, out shooting on Sunday so will see how it goes. Unfortunately Im in no way shape or form techie minded so I heavily rely on the shop tech guy getting it right!
Moose87 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 FPS doesnt always equal distance, the hop is important on that front. the fps behind a good bucking should mean that it gets to that distance faster and can put heavier BBs faster. what sort of distance are you expecting??
Airsoft_Mr B Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I hate airsoft DMRs. They're just normal AEGs internally and you have to do a load of upgrades to get it any good. As you can see from this thread here: http://www.airsoftsniperforum.com/43-longrange-aegs/892-holy-grail-building-your-dmr-aeg.html Samurai 1
GiantKiwi Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I hate airsoft DMRs. They're just normal AEGs. Really? Odd, seeing as I have 3, soon to be 4 GBBR's built as DMR's.
Longshot Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I think what he means is that in real steel the performance of a gun can we judged on its looks; a longer barrelled specialised gun like an SR25 will outrange an M4. But in airsoft terms that length and 'looking like a DMR' does not mean it will be any better than a shorter rifle at all. People who have 'true' airsoft DMRs have put a lot of work into the internals to get that effect, and frankly they could just drop the same internal set-up into a much shorter gun and get roughly the same result. CaptainDumbass Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I think what he means is MR B stated "they're normal AEG's" and kiwi was joking around at how ironic MR B's comment was, as he has 3, soon to be 4 DMR's that are GBB GiantKiwi, Airsoft_Mr B and team flex 3
FNG Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Hi Moose87, Lets put it this way. I have a Cyma MP5 SD6 that is out ranging the SR25. Have taken it out just to test fire and still not impressed. Starts of with the bb (.25s) going about 30' the next one will go 35' then 40ish and so on. Its almost like its warming up (which I suppose it could be?). Going to Dragons Lair on Sunday, so will take it out again to see whats what. The shop I bought it from are there as well so I can get them to come and 'witness' and see where we go from there.

Cyma weapons have an H-Nub in the hop unit as standard. This is probably why it's doing better than the G&P as other members have posted that G&Ps have barrel and hop problems OOB.
Supporters M_P Posted June 5, 2014 Supporters Posted June 5, 2014 They don't have and barrel problems per se, they just aren't particularly brilliant
Supporters Samurai Posted June 5, 2014 Supporters Posted June 5, 2014 It takes a lot of fiddling to put together a decent DMR - or actually any really good performing gun. Meaning: shops usually don't do it. They put some good internal parts into it and hope that does the job well enough that the user won't return the next week. Usually they don't have the time/interest/loving a DMR needs.
FNG Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Took it to Dragons Lair on Sunday just gone. One of the guys from the supplier helped me with the hop up and zeroing in. Still has a few teething problems. When I load a mag (all Magpul Pmags now!!) and start shooting, the first 5 or 6 BBs go out to 20 ft, 30ft, 40 ft then it starts to reach out and touch, Babe! (sorry, couldnt resist that!). One of the guys on their Facebook page actually stated that 'the range on it was awesome'. I must admit I had a good day and was hitting 75% of what I was aiming at. Guess I just have to put a lot more 'rounds' down range to shoot it in?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 It might have the same issue as RealSword guns- The hop up rubber needs 'breaking in' Since the rubber used is very hard and there might be excess rubber left after casting. Solution is to shoot it as much as possible. Airsoft_Mr B 1
TacMaster Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Yeah, load it up with 0.20s and fire a few hundred rounds. That should do it
Supporters M_P Posted June 11, 2014 Supporters Posted June 11, 2014 The rubber isn't so bad but takes a very long time to wear in compared to most.
FNG Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 More disappointment FFS!!! Out yesterday (Sunday) just walked to the start point (defend the bunker). Fired off a couple of warmers into the bank. Now remember this is a DMR. Supplier locked it into single shot only, no auto as per the rules. Knelt down, fired off another round and the thing went into full auto! Quickly aimed it away from the advancing troops, frantically trying to switch back into 'safe' mode only for the safety catch to do a 360% turn around!! Had to walk off through the advancing, bemused, enemy with the magazine removed and the gun still firing until the battery ran down and out! Teddy is definately going in the corner this time with all of his/her apendages removed!!!
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Cutoff lever shit itself or the trigger contacts committed sepukku hara kiri is some way, often happens on some guns.
Moose87 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Ohhh dragons lair! dunno if the same people run it but he was pretty bad when i met him at a different site. yer get it looked at mate clearly something wrong if its brand new
Bullet Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 That sucks balls dude. As and when you get it fixed i would suggest that yoi get some heavier ammo for it. You should see a real improvement in your groupings! You might have to experiment a little to find the correct weight!
team flex Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 This is why I'm never getting a G&P... surely all their guns can't be like this?
Supporters M_P Posted June 23, 2014 Supporters Posted June 23, 2014 No of course they aren't. This is an issue that could happen to any gun tbh, I think the ares lmgs were quite susceptible but having put something like 150rds through g&p AR15 I can safely say it's not a common issue. Just bad luck probably all manufacturers have bad guns, even those with very high reliability and qc like tm. Saying this is why I'd never buy a g&p is like saying I'd never buy a g&g because a few mosfets have broken on gen 3s. The reality is that there will always be issues on guns regardless of brand, you just have to hope yours won't. Mack 1
