NAE13 Squad Colours

29 members have voted

  1. 1. Which faction do you think an AF_UK squad should join?

    • Bravo - a collection of mercenaries and renegades.
    • Delta - the elite, organised troops.
    • The Others - whose idea of fun is causing as much death and disruption as possible!

So yeah, the same as last year, one thread for all things NAE13 - who is going, what we're taking, travel arrangements, lifts wanted/offered, factions, teams, teamwork, tactics, discussions of the site, the event, the marshalling, the players, the loadouts, the weapons, the prizes (James :P ), the food, the booze, Zero One itself... etc.

Does anyone want to form another AF-UK squad? I'm up for it and, as last year, I'll volunteer to coordinate communication. If you weren't around last year, the way it works is PM me your first name and/or the name you go by and your mobile number. I'll keep them all in a folder and then, just before the event, I'll PM everyone who has opted in with the full list. Might be a good idea to include an email addy this time around also because network coverage around the site is spotty and the same is true when you're travelling, so the more options the better.

Last year we signed up to the Delta faction, "the elite organised troops" No really

This year I'm suggesting we sign up to Bravo, "a collection of mercenaries and renegades" or perhaps even The Others, "whose idea of fun is causing as much death and disruption as possible!"

If anyone else is planning to go from the East Midlands or South Yorkshire, I could do with a lift. I'm in with the petrol money, no problem, however i don't have a driving license so I can't share. I'm also well up for sharing the cost of a van or minibus if there are enough of us. That said, if nothing like that transpires, it was so good last year that I will carry a full bergen with everything I need for the weekend on public transport again (and by all means mock my weight saving spork :P ).

I'm provisionally considering wearing a hybrid Soviet VDV berezka loadout as a KGB Special Troops officer with an AKS-74U and a Dragunov on my back, but I may well alter my plans to fit in with others, not least because I don't have it all yet ;)

Edit to add poll.

Count me in, I'll also be bringing 2 spare ICS M4's as a just in situation. normal A-TACS FG loadout for me, with multiple AF-UK patches. I'll be coming from Lenham, and I'll be driving my pick-up so space won't be an issue if anybody wants a lift from there.

Well I dunno, mate. I'd never heard of the place until just now so I googlemap'd it. It sounds to me like the sort of name that could belong to villages/towns all over the place, especially North Somerset - like Upper Lenham St. Cuthbert or something :D

you learn something new everyday lol.

by the by, my pick-up bed is lockable so if anyone is worried about theft I'll be happy to lock it up. prefer though if they were in the same camping area as me.

Yeah, that's the idea with comms - to help us find a place to camp together.

BTW AFAIK there isn't a Lenham St-anything in N Somerset, i just meant it sounds like there should be :)

I promise you Josh, it's not ideal but on public transport it's just a train to London, a tube to change stations to a train to Salisbury, a bus to Ringwood and a <£5 cab to get to the site. If you book the train to Salisbury through East Midlands Trains' website it's pretty cheap (plus, if you click the tiny link in my siggy, you can get cashback on the ticket). All you need is a tent, sleeping bag, water carrier, brew making tackle, AEG, maybe a couple of extra skirmishables,. You could get BB's on site and food too if you like, and/or get some from the Sainsbury's by where the bus from Salisbury stops in Ringwood. Oh and bog roll. It goes in a bergen...

depending on amounts of people arriving at the same time, I'd be happy to pick people up and then drop them back off at the train station as it's only a small detour on my route there.

Legend Geoff!

@Josh: Yeah, but National Express is a fairly major pain in the arse even if you've got nothing heavier than a packet of mints in your pocket. Going most of the way on the train is fine. You just need to get your bergen straps set right so you can carry it comfortably through stations. The bus from Salisbury is a normal round town stylee bus, not a coach with a seat designed in line with some ergonomic theory come up with by somebody who has never used public transport in their life and then jammed closer together than even the original pillock had intended so only children and dwarfs have enough leg room...

So even if Herogeoff couldn't pick us up it'd still be ok. I did it and I've got a bad back so if it was that bad I'd not be even considering doing it again!

How are the teams marked? Is it done by dress, or arm bands?

'Cos I think the others would be most suited to a large group of people going, but my kit is far more suited to Delta.

Teams are marked by having 2 coloured acrylic tags tied to you, one on the front one on the back. I believe last year they were orange, blue or white.

Gear has no impact on your choice of team and the play styles listed in the descriptions as far as I can tell gave no indication as to the quality or ability of the players in those teams. Saw quite a few bravo and others players with some seriously Gucci kit last year and quite a few deltas knocking about in hoodies with poorly disguised 2-tones.

You can always think of yourself as 'on leave' getting enough cash to buy a house, Ed... not that I'm suggesting for one moment that British soldiers do/have done that and certainly not with British Govt. knowledge or approval.

its not like a full milsim where the deltas are like a full squad with every bell and whistle, then the bravos with ak's.you can go as what loadout as you want as long as your wear your tags

I'm aware anyone can go on any team, I was just wondering how they tell them apart, as if it were dress based my assumption would be that Delta would be tan as that's the most linked with real, highly skilled groups etc etc.

We were thinking about attending this but heard last year was a bit of a shambles, loads of cheating going on and no where near enough marshals, was this indeed the case or was that just some sore people being bitchy after the event?

I think me and some of my guys are gonna give it a go regardless purely as we love the fun and a weekend away is always a good laugh with plenty of like minded others

To be honest the people who moan about last year moan about every year because they expect the ritz and want a full food menu.the only problem i find is directions, the map is not the best and its badly signposted,2011 was amazing 2012 was even better

Not entirely true. People just expect more food choices than just burgers. Though admittantly they did change that last year.... after 5 years.

Spatch, at this kind of event cheating and Marshall's not covering everywhere is (sadly) to be expected dont be hugely put off but don't turn up expecting amazing playing- turn up for a laugh and for the social side of things.

Considering I might be joining you guys (nice idea now I get to see you guys in action) would I need my own one man tent or are their people in the squads who carry the tents.
