I've been using Hero Shark Daggernose but only because I'm too lazy to repair my ACM ski-goggle type. The sticky strip that holds the foam on is worn out - I've been bodging it with double sided tape but it's not a good fix. It needs either glue (which isn't so simple because some glues will melt foam) or some holes melted in the plastic and stitching the foam on.

The reason I prefer my ski-mask style eyepro is because they have interwoven wire mesh, which is the best compromise between protection and see-through-ability IMO, but I'm not really into the look of them and, when I combine them with a mesh 1/2 face mask, they have to go over the nose-piece in a way that constantly needs adjusting and restricts my view down, immediately in front of me and my chest, quite a lot.

I've also got a Killer Mask, which is quite good for woodland sunny days because it cuts down light like shades a bit, but not enough really. I also prefer separate eyepro and 1/2 face to a full face mask because it's easier to use a hydration pack tube that way, or have a fag...

I've just received a 2" square sample of some mesh which I have high hopes for though. I'm not @home now though so it'll have to wait for a while before I can make a little frame to hold it stiff while I shoot BB's at it. The wire is 304L stainless steel so it will be impervious to weather and it's thinner than what we're used to, but 8 wires per inch rather than 7. I've had a quick look through it and it seems way better than the #7 mesh for seeing through. Only tests will tell if the extra wire produces enough strength in the mesh for it to perform as well as less strands of thicker wire.

If it works out for me, I'll be offering to make bespoke eyepro contoured exactly to the wearer's face, but this will rely on me being able to meet the wearer or maybe post some wires to them to bend into the shape they want themselves... Something I'll not be doing however is forming a company and getting insurance, so it'd be at the wearer's own risk!

Thanks for all of that! Much appreciated

I've personally only seen one tooth knocked out during airsoft skirmishing, but it was a lower incisor snapped off clean flush to the gum. The lad refused when i offered him ibuprofen, went with toughing it out for the next skirmish... back to me after that for the pills!

I've seen a few good bleeds and had one myself which has left a permanent scar (BB hit me between 1/2 face & eyepro cos they were loose). Basically it's up to each player, but imo you're fcukin nuts if you don't wear lower face protection when there is any chance, and i do mean 'any', of being shot from close range.

Also, are you sure that chemistry goggles are rated for balistic protection rather than just chemical splash?

The chemistry goggles do take a BB impact, but I wouldn't wear them personally. (they fog like a bitch)

I wear ESS Crossbows with no lower face everywhere. They don't steam up EVER. I've had plenty of bleeders on my face (far too many to recall) and They've probably scarred, but it's no worse than my acne, seems to all blend in nicely ;). plus I suppose having a job where I don't have to explain getting shot at on a monday morning helps.

My thinking is be able to see the enemy, and get decent cheek weld, aiding superior shooting to hit them before they get a chance to even bring their rifle up on me is the best form of facial protection.

Aside from using the proper lens eye pro (I wear perforated steel mesh), I'm with Dave.

Rifle to the shoulder makes a nice face mask and if in doubt, get your head down and bug out, also shut your mouth!

I have actually been hit in the teeth before, I think my teeth must be made of adamantium 'cos it felt like my tooth had explosively shattered into a bajillion pieces, and whilst experiencing it all happen in slow motion, I was shitting myself that I was going to look like Worzel Gummage or something, but I was lucky.

I would recommend full face, but I don't ever plan on using it and I have seen people get teeth shot out on 4 separate occasions, two times were mates as well.

I need a mask to save my teeth from a good loud fart they're that weak!

At my age I don't care about scars either, even if I didn't already have a few on my face. But I clearly remember how I felt about the first one I got: seriously, bereft. My teenage face, which I could scrub up and look no different to anybody else, was indelibly marked 'disreputable'. There'd be no more batting my eyelids and looking like butter wouldn't melt in my mouth for me. Trust me on this, most of you young uns reading this will have no idea just how much you gain from general goodwill towards you, but if for some reason that goodwill is less easily forthcoming all of a sudden... well, they say "you never know what you've got 'til it's gone", eh?

To me it depends on where I'm playing, like Ian said, I'm woodland or similar I'll go for just my ESS glasses. Anything like a cqb site or something close uo I'll wear my lower mesh mask, to me it seems foolish to risk loosing teeth just for the sake of not wanting to wear it or that it'll ruin your loadout's look.

But then I wore braces for a few years a while back so maybe I'm just a bit more sensitive about mine than others  having more dental work would be an inconvenience too on top of that :D

I tried using a double gum shield, but that makes comms impossible, not to mention drinking and smoking...

I need to try wearing 2 single ones.

Mate, I have a serious dentist phobia as well as terrible teeth. I'm taking no chances. It's not like your mouth stays closed the whole time, eh? Open your mouth to breath deeply, get shot in your lower incisors... exactly what must have happened to the only person I've personally seen lose a tooth.

No fcuking way! I've ended up in hospital for maxilofacial surgery because i was too afraid of the dentist to get it sorted out before it got so bad. And yeah, it did hurt like mad... as in it was literally driving me nuts, but no matter what i tried to get me through the dentist's door, i couldn't do it...

I use the basic full face mesh:

Costs about a fiver and does a decent enough job, though I'm about to switch to Ski-like googles with a bandana face over lay, gunning for a look like this lads ;-)

All this talk about losing teeth makes me paranoid of going in without full face...

Yeah as long as there's *something* covering my face to take the force out of the BB strike I think my teeth will be fine. All the stories about missing teeth in this thread seem to be from those that had

nothing over the lower face.

I don't think that a bandana would provide any protection against getting teeth knocked out at all - it's loose over the mouth and not thick enough to create any significant cushioning effect.

it would be better than nothing, but not much... as you can see i wear the bottom half of a standard mask under my balaclava and think it looks quite well, no problem with face and stock...

I typically wear a balaclava, and then fold a shemagh diagnally and wrap it round the lower part of my face a tie it at the front. I did buy a half-face mesh mask but I couldn't get on with it. It was really uncomfortable and dug into my face.

I'm terrified of damaging or losing teeth.

I have been tempted to buy some gum shields but I wasn't sure how much of an impact they would have on communication.
