What's the name of your town/city/village/settlement/enclave? As others have said, the name of your business might be useful when people google for the service they need. But even if you don't get your own website to help optimise search results, if you call it Fallujah barbers by Jambo - for example, when people google for a barbers in Fallujah, things like yellowpages will help keep your business at the top of the results. How you make this work with all that other stuff you'll do, pass...

I was in a CQB game using a long Paintball speedball-style zone. It was game on, and we ran forward, and almost straight away I was hit in the chest. I raised my hand and started to stop my run to turn to the respawn, and the Marshall just in-front of me starts yelling "Don't stop - come on, keep going!!!!!!" I thus put my hand down and thought - oh - ok... Then as soon as I got to a barricade, my brain engaged and I realised, he was trying to get the team animated and pushing, not excusing my hit.

Night Games & Team v Team Games
skarra333 replied to Ace Airsoft War Games's topic in Ace Airsoft War Games
I'd be interested in team vs team days. Though an issue might be that as a one man wolf pack I'm not in a team of course, but this is but a scratch of an issue perhaps. -

I hear you. eBay will be my downfall, or my girlfriend if we co-habit. I snapped up some alt-berg boots because they were going crazy cheap - I didn't really want them. Now they just take up space. I have a bin liner full of arktis stuff because it was £25 - I only wanted 1 belt-rig from it. The list goes on, boxes of the sh!t. -
Mask fans, volts, amps and things I don't understand
skarra333 replied to skarra333's topic in General Help
I admit I'd never heard of 18650 batteries before this. But they're worth exploring. In advance of replacing my fan i took it apart enough to see the specs on the blade unit - it is actually a G&G 5v fan with a 0.8w something. So I'm still not sure why my 2 regular duracell AAA's run it, as that's just 3 volts as I understand it. That being so though, I'm hoping running a 12v fan on a 9v battery will be ok. If i'm only getting 60% of the power needed as is, going to the new set up will get 75% of necessary power over 2 fans at least? How long it'll last is another matter. This is all new to me so trial, and a fair bit of error might be in the pipeline. -
Hmm. An interesting point you raise there - but on the chart of who's more curious, I vote golfers...

Can we see the picture, not to perv over, but to better assess the issue? -
Off-topic, but I wouldn't want to wager what motivates golfers, they're a curious bunch to me...

Mask fans, volts, amps and things I don't understand
skarra333 replied to skarra333's topic in General Help
Hi all. Thanks for the responses on this - I think i've understood what I need to do and appreciate the help. The current fan certainly does run on the AAA's and I get about 5 hours game play out of them. But as you say, if it's running on such reduced power, that might be part of why it doesn't do it's job brilliantly. I also use a V-Force profiler lens. The goggle itself is comparatively quite large and the width of the curve may also be why the far left and right edges of the goggle are where moisture starts to build. The 2 or 3 fan approach, with a 9v battery should solve this. I'll put a before and after piece on the forum somewhere when it's done. Thanks again. -
I started paintballing with a group of friends way back when, but the regular costs (site paint - the only allowable sort where we went - at £60 a time) made us look to alternatives. Airsoft was just that, so we switched back in 2007. It gave us what we wanted, a place to run around shooting people, but with a more affordable burden. It started with 3 regulars and 2 occasionals. Now it's just me usually. Although it started out about the money, even though I still see the appeal of Paintball, Airsoft now appeals to me and scratches my itch in a different way than Paintball did. Firefights develop and play out different to Paintball - better usually. I'm a bit of a "one man wolf pack" in general anyway, so going by myself isn't a problem. And as others have said, most people in the sport are very friendly and welcoming.

Leaving keys in locks. Help me settle an argument.

I'm not sure what to advise as it all depends of course, but I understand that there were some 780,000 instances of domestic burglary last year, vs. some 192,000 fires (to which Fire crews responded at least). -
Hi guys. I'm after some help please. My Mask fan is on its way out now, and I'm looking to replace it myself, rather than pay £35+ for a ready made replacement. I am currently using an old Fanz single fan (similar to this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FANZ-Anti-Fog-Goggle-Fan-Single-Unit-Paintball-Goggle-Mask-Fan-CC-3-/390571896437), which I understand is a 9v fan, and it runs of a 2XAAA battery box... What I'm thinking of doing is getting 3 of these (1 fan just doesn't cover my goggle area sufficiently): http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/30x10mm-cooling-fan-a27gu OR 3 of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/8mm-cooling-fan-a25gu Along with one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leads-Switch-Black-Battery-Holder/dp/B00CQKCWBW/ref=sr_1_24?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1434361162&sr=1-24&keywords=aaa+battery+box Now I know how to make it all fit/attach and what not, but I'm struggling to understand how it will work in terms of amps, volts etc. Any help and advice is very much appreciated. For example, I'v read in various places that using a 12v fan on a battery source that is less that 12v will lead to explosions... Will a 2XAAA battery box safely run a 12v fan - or 3 of them? If so, what sort of battery life can I expect? Do I need to set the wiring up in a certain way (i've read stuff on series vs parallel wiring but don't understand it) in order to get sufficient power to the fans, without overly draining the battery? And should I be looking at other things, like a 9v fan (which, for a reliable one, seems surprisingly difficult to source, for me at least), as Maplin sell 9v battery boxes? As I say, any help, especially from people who know about electricity is appreciated. Many thanks.

ebay's latest policy which will affect us airsofters
skarra333 replied to sp00n's topic in General Discussion
Ebay is dotted with things and prices that are to some, preferable to other places, and thus I don't see a problem with any nonsense rule further restricting buying choices of peripheral items being scoffed at by those it will impact. -

This just puts me off buying a G36. I'll never know which pouches can hold it's mags now. But that's fine, I've seen some wicked long-bows on ebay, I'll put the money towards that instead. #saferworld -
Yeah but the man asked about new players yet to even skirmish seemingly focusing on it as they do? Is it because they like to upgrade machines they've yet to even hold, or because they’ve been informed/influence/conditioned by CoD and the like on the matter? My money is on the latter 95% of the time.
-
Don't think so... Airsoft upgrades are essential is some aspects. I'm not sure about that... I'd say that to those who haven't even played a skirmish as yet - video games are probably why they talk about upgrades etc. They won't know one way or another about which stock hop-up or gear systems are duff etc, but they will have been trained that stock weapons are deficient, and can only achieve a more useful existence with the right scope, grip, barrel and paint-job.

I concur with Kurtz. The laws of physics Airsoft is mercy too means that real world tactics can also be pretty stupid to try and implement. A rhododendron can be quite the impenetrable barrier for an AEG.

I think for Airsoft, they are good for a range of reasons – and for sites, they could actually be yet more – they have triggered research that can perhaps help inform your business (IMO)... For years, what Der Derian called the military-industrial-media-entertainment network has given children games like CoD, Battlefield etc. These are games designed and developed often with the support of the Governments/armed forces of the West as a recruiting and propaganda tool (regardless of what a Senator/MP might say to the press etc). There is a vast wealth of academic writing on this. But according to the literature, an element (there are many) of why these games appeal is a post-modern ‘therapeutic way to work out 21st century angst by battling the bad guys’… Such games ‘simulation of digitised superiority’ or ‘cyberdeterrence’, taken like prozac and serving as a ‘technopharmacological fix for all the organic anxieties that attend uncertain times and new configurations of power’. Games offer the possibility of getting back control, of overcoming fear, and are fantastical and temporary: ‘for 45 minutes you can pretend you have some sense of agency, some control, or at the very least some part in trying to make the world a better place’. There is more of course, but games have thus (IMO) generated research that could help Airsoft sites to tailor their offer to a deeper appeal than most sites currently do… First and Only are perhaps onto this to a certain extent - from their website: Tired of Computer Gaming? Done with Paint Ball? Ready to take on something all together more thrilling and realistic? First and Only Airsoft is the experience for you. We have the best and most varied combat sites and locations throughout the UK – from dense woodland and built up army bases to exciting urban locations and even a nuclear bunker. If you want to treat your mates to an incredible stag do, tackle a real life zombie encounter or simply experience the ultimate in realistic military gaming – we’ve got what you need.

What kind of jobs do you guys have to support airsoft? :)

I work at a Uni and my advice - wait until you know what career you want before selecting a degree... First, if you're going to end up with that much debt, it might as well be in a topic you actually follow through to life. However useful any degree is, if you study botany and end up an engineer, how useful will that degree be? Or if you study engineering and pursue a career as a Lidl area manager, again, how applicable will those 3 years learning be? Second, although many degrees market their graduate employability, the statistics/figures are pretty crooked (IMO). For example, 100% of Warwick's Biology graduates might be classed as employed if in work 6 months after graduation - but if they are stacking shelves at Tesco, they still tick this box... Any course you look at, ask the Uni how many graduates get a job in a related career path, and what are their earnings 6 months after graduation to better inform you on it. Third, once you get a degree, you will really struggle to do another... If you're 25 and figure out what career/degree you want, if you've already got a degree, the Government won't help - you won't even get a student loan to cover your 2nd degree/re-training. Sooo many people I know wish they'd done something different. There's a chicken and egg issue mind... They get a degree > that gets them a job they thought they wanted > they realise it's not for them > they want a different degree. So perversely a degree might help you decide what other degree you wish you were doing - but ho-hum, you get one roll of the dice (unless you're loaded and can cover the costs upfront yourself). Fourth, more than a few schemes like some Apprenticeships won't allow graduates to apply but are a brilliant way to climb the ladder. While others are at Uni, you're in the business learning the trade. And although graduates (according to the stats) often earn more in their 40's+ than those who come through the vocational path, if you don't do a degree at 18, you can always do one when you hit 30 or whatever. Some uni courses have 95% 'mature' students doing exactly this. Fifth, whatever you decide, do something... You seem to if you've got your own business going, which is great. But beware the perils of inactivity... Don't let yourself sit around on quiet times, don't spend all day on CoD, don't sponge of your folks... Get into good habits staying useful, staying active, keeping energized. It'll help. Best of luck with things though. -

It's always a shame to see people deliberately move away from the sport (as opposed to the drifters). I don't mean to presume to understand your circumstances, nor do I wish to spout off with pie in the sky notions, but have you considered moving from player to provider? Your own site? God knows it's as easy (or not) as setting up any business, but you can make it what you want it to be and as far as I can see, good, passionate and driven folks committed to their own high standards is NOT a universal thing every site has - and gaps in the market are out there. It might not be a money maker, but It could give you new challenges, as well as allow you to put your background to a direct use? Best of luck though chap. -
Herro. Where abouts are you from?

A belated hoodie doodie from Stoke, though I hail from Wolves previously. Frontier Airsoft is a site id recommend, and it's just up the road from Penkridge (and its train station, which aren't too distant from Brum if you fancy it).

I've been doing some googling, and one thing I'm finding is that formal University Airsoft Societies seem to be a very rare thing, and I'm wondering why...? I find it especially interesting given the sheer volume of younger student-type players out there, some of whom will no doubt be at Uni, and the supposed continuing expansion of the sport... Am I wrong? Are there more out there than I think? If I'm right, why do you think they aren't put there or growing in number? What benefits might there be for the sport as a whole for there to be some sort of increased organisation of players into them? Any thoughts?
