I think persistence will prevail. I’ll certainly be giving other sites ago before writing off the sport as a long term hobby.

I’ll defo be doing both these things. There’s a group of four of us who are all starting out and have similar ideas on what we want out of it (teamwork, comms, objective focussed, not so fussed about looking flash in expensive kit…although that does sound fun).

I’ll also be contacting the site, in a friendly manner of course. Who knows, maybe it was just a day where a few of the marshals were feeling rough after a late one on Saturday 🤷‍♂️

Personally I have no issues with high ROF in and of itself. But when someone is slapping a 2000 round box mag on a 60 rps assault rifle that might be a problem. If someone wants a bullet hose fine but they should have to deal with the inconvenience of changing mags.

My AEG hits 20+ RPS on a 7.4v lipo and it's great for getting heads down but it burns through mags frighteningly fast I will slap an 11.1v in there at some point and that should get me around 35 RPS but I'm not the sort to run box mags. If I want to get someone's head down it's great but I shouldn't be able to keep it there without having to change mags indefinitely.

In summary high ROF is fine but you should suffer the drawbacks that it should bring.

Whilst that is generally true, later in the war (i.e. after 1943) the MP-40 was actually issued more widely to regular troops. That was a direct response to encountering the Russian army using sub machine guns in larger numbers than most other WW2 forces. Ironically enough, this led the Germans to develop the StG44, which the Russians then used as the inspiration for the AK47 after WW2. However, in spite of the German's desire to hand out the MP40 in larger numbers, unlike the PPSh41 and 43, of which over eight million were produced, the MP40 wasn't produced in the truly massive numbers necessary to make that possible (i.e. only a fraction over a million units according to most records), so whilst it is true that there weren't enough of them to hand over to everyone in the Wehrmacht, the Germans did actually want to do that, particularly in light of their experience against the Russians, who of course had the Germans retreating because of that much better weight of firepower. Thus the Germans did so as much as they could, and there are certainly quite a few instances where entire units were equipped with the MP40 in the closing stages of the war, it's just that it was not the norm for most army units.

If you want a truly ridiculous example of MP40 usage however, nothing beats Mary Ure, Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood's MP40s in Where Eagles Dare, which aside from appearing to be loaded with armour-piercing incendiary ammunition, judging by the amount of damage they can do, also seem to be fitted with special high capacity magazines capable of holding hundreds of rounds.

Video from a shop reads as, use a smaller voltage so we have less hassle dealing with any warranty issue. If the manufacturer states use 11.1v lipo then use it. The motor will draw what it needs and you should use a battery that can supply that, using an under rated lipo next to tor face isnt a great idea.

I use a 3s 1050 80c battery in my 308 and it stays cool and by the end of the day it's nearly back to storage voltage.
In fact it's a much easier life for the battery than strapped to one of my fpv quad.

Of course you can get an adapter, but you can also easily rewire your plug and swap it from mini tamiya to deans, to get the full benefit of deans stability. You can also rewire the battery plug, but be careful not to short-circuit the LiPo while doing so, i.e: do one wire at a time.

With all the shit been going on in my life past 8mths I’ve definitely developed a “fuck it , if it makes you happy do it !” Attitude(I used to be quite take my time lets see how things go , but after loosing my oldest friend and having a bit of a near call my self I’ve realized you can’t count on tomorrow even happening let alone plans coming to fruition) SO t’other night whilst wandering aimlessly through Tinter’Web I came across a Cyma mosfet edition XM177 on Bullseye , now always had a bit of a crush on that particular AR so I bought it , and when I got in this afternoon it was sat there waiting for me ! 👍
Oh so much a happy chappy ! 😍

Oh, I missed that because of the text issue.

As @EDcasesays, M14s are select fire, full auto, or fully semi-automatic.  CYMAs come in a bit spicy from the factory, but any one that you buy in the UK should be down-sprung to be usable - PatrolBase at least claim that.

But are, of course, out of stock.

In my humble opinion, the CYMA M14 is a fantastic rif, albeit a bit cumbersome.  Decent hop unit out of the box etc.  They always seem to shoot exceedingly well, and improve with modest fettling.

I enjoy lobbing .30s through mine, with a scope fitted it performs very well.  Bit heavy and long for throwing around in CQB, although it's all relative.  Our grandfathers did room clearance with an SMLE and a foot and half of bayonet attached.

Kind of related to the post above. Have you thought about your playing style? For example I like the look of the G3 but found, despite mine having decent performance, I couldn't get on with it as I like to go sneaking through bushes etc and the long size was a hindrance

Ahoy and welcome, and that all sounds perfectly sensible (and therefore no fun for us  )

You're rather spoiled for choice at the moment, in that budget.  If you want something that'll feel significantly different from a rental AEG (but don't want to go GBBR or HPA) then you're looking at trick triggers.  A Specna Arms Edge 2.0 with a GATE Aster, or an ARP-556 with its 3 round burst option can both be had in budget, and have plenty happy owners.

The ARP is a shortie though, and something a little offbeat that fits the longer-barrelled brief would be an M14, e.g. the CYMA CM.032 which can be had for well under budget.  You could (but wouldn't necessarily have to) spend that on an aftermarket barrel and hop rubber, plus loads of mags. Comes with a basic fire control system, but owners report that they perform well, and it would make a nice change from M4s and AKs.

However the reality is that at the moment you can only buy what's in stock, and I'd caution that applies to magazines too - it's surprisingly hard to find even stuff like shortie M4 mags, so I'd get a package of in-stock gear in your basket or baskets before committing.

Aside, your text is appearing as black for me, I don't know if you set that deliberately. I'd suggest not, as this site has a dark mode, and should be left to decide text colour unless you're making some point.

Welcome. Sounds like you've done some good reading 👍

The CYMA M14 (CM032) is select fire (semi/auto) but you'd have to change the spring to reduce power if wanting to use auto.
You could change back and lock to semi if you want to go sniper/marksman.  (The EBR might be easier to go that route)

As Roger said, now is not a good time to buy as stock is very low on everything.

Have a look for some threads about 'best' new toys to start with.  It really is about choosing the look you want and then deciding on the best one for bang to buck ratio.  (And then trying to find one in stock)
