I must have got one of the same bad chrono's too, that 16rps it's showing for my DE must be a lie!
-
This is all making me think my DE is being extra hard on its battery. I've had issues with the motor getting very toasty, perhaps it needs some adjustment. Or it's finally time to open the gearbox and re-lube everything.
-
It's not the voltage that decides how many batteries you'll need, it's a combination of how you play (carefully chosen single shots Vs bullet-hose suppression), and the mAH (milli amp hours rating) (Plus a few other contributory factors like how your gun is set up, the temperature, whether you feel lucky, punk... that sort of thing) If you shoot on semi auto carefully, you should get through a whole day on one decently large battery (3000 mAH). If you go hog-wild on the fun switch and trigger, and your batteries are only little 1400mAH sticks, then you might get through three or even four. Edit: Colin seems a bit more optimistic than me. I'm basing my reply on the fact I can burn through my 3000mAH Titan Li-ion battery by mid afternoon. I shoot a lot when I'm playing with my AEGs

How do i remove this flash hider? Vfc 417 gbbr
RostokMcSpoons replied to Ghostopera's topic in General Help
Yes, good spot @Davet I can't edit my previous reply, its probably the name tagging Anyway, I checked my 416, that's just a plain 14mm CCW -
Sad days when this is the most active thread on the forum 😥

How do i remove this flash hider? Vfc 417 gbbr
RostokMcSpoons replied to Ghostopera's topic in General Help
I've changed the flash hider on my 416, I can't remember any grub screws. Which means there's one obvious thing to ask ... You do know these are counter clockwise threads, so they unscrew the wrong way to everything in normal life? (Sorry if that's stating the bleeding obvious / teaching granny to suck eggs) -
Thanks, I was still in the 'unread' summary view so didn't get the option menu for each post. D'oh!
-
Interesting you say that because I tried to report each of the shit posters yesterday, and perhaps I've gone blind or stupid, but couldn't find a way to do it.
-
I'm on this forum an unhealthy amount of time, clicking the 'unread' button like a lab rat addicted to amphetamines. So I'll volunteer to be an anti spam moderator, might as well make the compulsion vaguely useful 😋

I used mine for the whole skirmish on Saturday, I did use 0.40g because I had a bag of 3000 I've bought for it, and the leafy vegetation is coming in properly now. It seemed sensible to have the extra weight so it could hit through a couple of leaves and twigs on the way, and indeed I did seem to get a get a couple of hits when I was intentionally shooting at people behind light cover. Maybe I was just lucky and hit nothing but air on the way... But it gave the confidence to try it I suppose. Range seemed excellent, though I can only judge in 'airsoft metres' 😉. I'd say 50-60. The hop (which I've not replaced, so I assume is stock) can lift em fine. Accuracy was good at 20-30m, but naturally enough a bit more inconsistent beyond that. I run my gun with an LPVO and most of the time it's cranked to 5X so I was effectively sniping, tracking my shots through the scope. I was hitting heads and limbs showing out from cover, and main mass hits at long ranges. I could probably have got more with my DE (and its higher volume of fire), but each hit was all the more satisfying for the small added difficulty. Mine ran like a trooper too, I didn't bother using my Double Eagle AEG for the first since I bought it, a high recommendation! I had two small issues: 1. The hop seemed to unwind. I realised part way through a game that my BB's had no apparent hop. I wound on some, and all good, but maybe I was just about empty on gas and it was down to lack of oomph. I had to tweak the hop later, so that's possible, but I will keep an eye on it in future. I might want to find a way to stop the adjuster from rotating (if that's what it's doing) 2. Two embarrassing de-gasses, which both were my fault. Both occurred the same way, when I realised I was about to double load a BB into the barrel to cock the gun. I tried to drop the mag out one-handed, but the mag didn't drop properly (presumably one of the new ones), so when I released the bolt handle it 'did something' and vented the mag quite noisily 😬 Purely down to me trying to do it one handed. Embarrassing because I did the exact same thing again. Both times during the pre-round brief 😄 At some point I'm going to run out of 0.40s and return to using the big stock of 0.28s I've bought for my AEGs. I'll try to do some comparitive long range shooting next time I'm at the site. I love this gun ❤️

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
Oh dear. Maybe bad weather leads to a psychological 'take it steady' approach. Or maybe it was just one of them days when things weren't running smoothly behind the scenes. No problems with delays yesterday, I think we had one mask-off break in the afternoon, everyone was working up a sweat so that seemed alright, other than that it was just stops to bomb up and cover the game rule brief for the next round. Will took over the briefing duties from Carlos (maybe that's helped?) and covered the rules at a clip to ensure we were playing as much as possible. The morning had the usual zombie warm up, which lasted a while due to the big player count, two long rounds of 45 minutes each and a short 20 minute game just before lunch. One game in the afternoon was called early because the attacking team became too passive, we got offered the option to change to a different game, or to switch. The defenders choose a switch and succeeded with the objectives... So I guess the worst thing you could say about the day is that the teams were numerically kept in balance, but one had more aggressive spirit (my team, coincidentally 😋) -
You're forgiven 😋 I've not had any problems with my mag catch, hopefully someone else can help though

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
Quality day at Special Ops again, lovely weather, 60-70 in attendance but everything went smoothly so no delays. I decided to haul in the Tippmann M4 HPA, the VFC HK416 GBBR, and of course ol' faithful, the DE M906C Well I couldn't get the hop working nicely on the Tippmann with 0.28s at the range, which was a surprise. I might have mangled another hop rubber somehow, I'll need to do some forensics... So anyway that was sidelined. The 416 and the 906 went off to play. For the first time ever since I've owned it, I didn't use the 906. I just enjoyed the GBBR experience too much to go back to the AEG! Again I could probably have racked up a few more kills with the AEG, but damn it the recoil just sells itself as an experience. My two new mags didn't leak, so with 4 of them and a speed loader, and an acceptance that I'd be somewhat more like a sniper than a rusher (though I still did that), I had a great time picking off people at a decent range, and entertaining the people around me ("that gun sounds awesome" was heard more than once). And I got a decent medium range pistol kill too. My only small problem was the 416 tended to lose the hop setting, it drifted to 'none' at one point, though of course easily fixed due to the clever way VFC used the gas block adjuster as the hop adjuster. Could do with some advice on how to prevent that from unwinding! Carlos and everyone else made the day a pleasure, though it was possibly more so for my team as we won every single round, even though the other team looked stronger at the outset. Excellent burgers for lunch, and the freely available bottles of water were very welcome in the warm temps Roll on the next one on the 29th... Edit: a special mention for the Cyma MP5K I tried, that gun is a simply fantastic little thing, if I do buy more AEGs that one is going to be at the top of the list. High RoF, and very accurate 👍 -
I don't know about the T1/2 clones, but if you can spend £120 on a sight, then that would get you a used Vortex real-steel quality T1/2 style sight with a lifetime warranty that means any one that owns it can send it back for repair or replacement even if the damage is accidental (I.e. the glass getting shot out by a bb, or dropped). No receipt or proof of purchase required. To me that's more appealing than spending £120 on a new clone with no similar warranty. An Eotech style sight is more intricate, there's more for your money in terms of what it looks like and the features it has, but that's the trade-off. If you're not sold on the Eotech style, then the Vortex might well be the best bet. IMHO 😋 What is your budget, btw? Is £100+ a stretch?

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
A couple of boneyard purchases... Action Hobbies does me a favour again... 3 x polymer mid-caps for £7 which are to go in my Tippmann, because the Lonex flash mags quite often unwind on insertion, so these seem a better bet. Also, I'm only going to run the Tippmann on semi-auto - seems a bit more 'suitable' to that play-style. (And as a minor bonus I get to use the Odin knock-off I bought second hand yonks ago) An Eotech clone for £8. Just cos I can't stop myself buying super-cheapo optics, it seems. It's not that bad, surprisingly! And Land Warrior returned the pair of VFC HK416 mags I bought a couple of weeks ago, that were leaking. They now seem fixed, and they turned them around pleasingly quickly ... i.e. just in time for my next game-day tomorrow. Phew! -
My mags have come back from Land Warrior, and with a squirt of gas in each they seem good! I have no hint as to what they did to fix 'em, so I'll give them a call on Monday because it might have been down to the grease / oil choice, or maybe they replaced a gasket or o-ring. Whatever it was, it seems to be useful info!

Picked up my cheap-ass Eotech clone from Action Hobbies boneyard. I have to say, for £8 it is surprisingly 'not shit' 😁 It must be very bargain-basement, there are no trades or stickers or manufacturer's marks on it, and yet the reticle is as bright as my Sotac, well focused, looks alright even when viewed off-centre. Usual amount of parallax at very short range, but fine at 15m. The only thing is the glass is noticeably more tinted than the Sotac, and the overall build quality is merely 'ok'. I wouldn't trust it to hold zero, but at the stupidly low price I really don't care I might stick it on something with recoil to see how long it'll survive, just as an experiment, but it looks tidy enough I might just put it on a backup gun and forget about it
-
What would you calibrate it against? I don't know about 'fancy' chronos, but my cheap-ass little AliBaba-special has no option to do such a thing. You can expect chrono's to disagree by a few fps, so allow for it to return a few fps lower than a site chrono, just to be safe.
-
The black DE is less ugly than the tan one, partly because of the longer barrel, but it still doesn't float my boat Edit: pic I did used to like the honey badger look... I think the top rail is just a couple of cm too long, if it had a front sight mounted on it (even folded flat) it would make it look better. Or an optic.
-
Might not be that controversial tbh, Speedbird I've not played any CQB yet, but my thinking was to use the T1/2 style sight for that when I get the chance. Looking around the sight rather than through it, to get the floating red dot, the smaller body of it is surely an advantage over the chunky eotech. But I can see 'nothing' being an alternative.. though it immediately loses some 'cool points' for the less realistic look of it. (Realism and its importance being something so subjective as to be hardly worth mentioning) Unfortunately my cheap T1 is in the process of dying. £20 (used) was too cheap, and my intended replacement is a used Vortex for £100ish with its excellent Lifetime no quibble warranty. I did at least get to try out the style of sight though, I can be sure I'll like and use a good 'un. There's a point where money is wasted, but of course personal budgets are always a factor not to be sniffed at.

I started a thread asking the same thing, rocket and I agreed to disagree in the end, and I went ahead with a cheaper option than the Holy Warrior (be aware to that HW make multiple versions including cheap ones that aren't anything special) https://airsoft-forums.uk/topic/55477-any-recommendations-for-an-eotech-clone-sight-551553558/ FWIW the cheaper Sotac one I bought still seems fine, but it's not had a good shake on my GBBR or Tippmann HPA yet. Here's a pic looking through the sight. The glass isn't too tinted in my opinion Red Dot Engineering make good sight protectors, here's the one I bought https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294301338289 I've just bought a dirt cheap clone from Action Hobbies boneyard, it'll be interesting to 'compare and contrast' with that 😁

Land Warrior have just emailed me to say they've fixed the mags and they're on their way back to me... should be here in time for Saturday's skirmish - so fingers are crossed they really fixed them!
