I really wanted the MK18 but thats super expensive.

Also worried that it says you will get type89 mags or MWS mags?

Also if you want to point me in the right direction in what to buy to get the MK18 look and some good to have upgrades, please pop some links below ❤️ Thanks.

I got my MK18 from Fire Support. I seem to remember Surplus Store being reasonable but the deal with three extra mags is a good one. I contacted FS about mags at the time and they confirmed the only difference between M4 and Type 89 MWS mags is the look. I got extra mags on eBay of all places, mainly because I prefer the look of the M4 mag.

If you're looking to turn your M4A1 into a MK18 then there are some posts in this thread that would be worth you finding, although if you're planning to buy the stuff straight away you may find it more cost effective to just get a MK18 .... which is out of stock by the look of it. Fire Support's stock alerts are pretty timely though, that's how I landed mine.

  2. Sounds like you've come to the right conclusion, you can scratch your GBB itch at a later date. Cost of entry into the GBB game is eyewatering, a sidearm is a cheaper way in as you use it less and therefore can get away with less mags, but it's certainly not a necessity or a replacement for a rifle.

You can prepare yourself for getting a GBB by getting mid-caps, or even lo-caps. I use 100rnd midcaps on my 308 but still have my emergency hi-cap as a last mag. It was actually then that I found that 200 rounds does me just fine in most games, so I bought enough gas mags to cater for that and a bit of extra on top. I see you have an MP5K, how may shots are you using most games?

All that said, I love my MK18 and MP7 GBBs!

  3. Can you use an M4 as a DMR - yes. Hell, some people have MK23's set up as DMR's.

Are there different rules for DMR's - yes. It depends on the site but at the very lease you'll have an MED due to the higher power and you'll need to be able to lock it to semi only. After that things can vary a bit more from site to site, eg physical / electronic locking to semi and type of RIF (and even then it may depend on whether you're doing a skirmish or milsim etc).

Essentially, check the rules of whatever site you frequent the most and do that.

    My 308's a short-barreled one and I use it under 1.13j for CQB 😁

  4. Personally, I'm like you and my pews are the same colours that they & their parts came in.

Yes, there are plenty of examples of the custom paint job being one that was done to hide a pews two-tone origins and these are usually of a certain, somewhat poor quality. But then there are other examples where the pew is an expression of the owners personality or painted up because black isn't exactly camouflaged in the woods, there are some really nice paint jobs out there that would make me think twice about painting mine. That said, I have nowhere near the skill set to do a decent job and it'd end up looking worse than terrible so I'll just stick with black.

This .... that and a friend in Goods In at work that also plays. Blew his mind when I got a pew delivered to work, he'd assumed it had to be sent to your UKARA address :)

  6. Welcome!

As everyone's said, rent first. By the time your UKARA's sorted you'll know whether it's for you or not and will have probably had a go on some other people toys so will also have a much better idea of what you want. You'll lose plenty of money if you buy a two-tone and then decide you don't like being shot at, or buying an M4 and then realising you'd rather an AK.

Research stuff and ask questions, there's plenty of knowledgeable folk about and we really don't mind passing that on - use the search function first though as sometimes we're a grumpy bunch and you may find the first answer is along those lines with a link to the relevant thread.

Decide on your budget too, it's very easy to become very poor in this game because we're all essentially the airsoft equivalent of magpies trying to hoard pews, n+1 and all that. Mags, batteries, chargers, gas, scopes, grip, sling, chest rig, boots, eyepro, facepro etc etc all cost money and there's no point blowing your wad on a pew if you can't use it for a few months because you can't afford mags - unless that's your plan of course. Me, I'm not that patient!

If you really think you're in it for the long haul and want to scratch that itch and buy stuff than I'd recommend getting non-shooty things that'll help as a rental - you may not like the rental PPE so eye & face protection would be sensible, as would a pair of boots and gloves.

  7. I've played a fair bit of CQB and my local site initially tested only on 0.2's, but saw the error of their ways and now you test on the setup you plan to use. They'll pop a few BBs out of your mag to check the weight, they even have more than one chrono so no-one needs to faff about changing the BB weight settings. This leads to an efficient chrono and eliminates any joule creep issues as the game setup is the one that is measured rather than an inaccurate one set by the sites rules (which is a bit of an own goal tbh).

I'm not a fan of HPA because a gunbilical cord isn't my thing, but from what I can make out the issues with HPA stem from either Joule creep due to testing inadequacies (see how my local site started out), or the operator willfully abusing the system and not being caught. In an ideal world everyone would understand joule creep and understand that if a site were testing on 0.2's then they would need to be under the limit if they were planning on using 0.3's. In an ideal world our honour system would enough to stop a post-chrono regulator tweak even being considered. But it's not an ideal world is it.

At the end of the day, it's your site, your rules. Stoke's miles away from me and I'll probably never visit; I'm sharing my experiences and some thoughts on chrono and levelling the field. Do what you like, but I find simple rules are easier to understand, follow and police - 1.14j on the ammo you're using is all you need to say.

Also, I can't believe no-one's mentioned shotguns in four pages! Are you really doing survival horror properly if you don't have a short-barreled shottie? 😁

All the best with the Seige though 👍

  8. MK18 arrived last week and I love it already!

NPAS fitted over the weekend and she's reliably doing around 335fps on 0.2s at room temperature, which is a shade over 1J and about where I want it to be. Was surprised how easy it was to fit, what took the time was adjusting it to get the power I wanted - was it clockwise or anti-clockwise to reduce the power? most of the time I did the opposite of what I wanted 😂

Ordered mags from Japan on Friday, just had a notification they'll be delivered on Thursday, if that happens I'll be massively impressed!

Going to the gym is good for people's wellbeing

There’s got to be something said about (legally) shooting someone (while playing Airsoft) as being good for your wellbeing.

Lost count of the times I wished I had my pistol in my desk!! 😂

Wish I had enough space somewhere for a range, would be great to have somewhere local to go and plink for a bit. Maybe we need to tack them on to the side of driving ranges?

  10. Fire Support have 40 of them.

Might hold fire for some TM ones as I’ve got 4 already and if I have different types it might annoy me.

Next MWS noob question … the stock tube is milspec right? Gonna get a Magpul CTR for it.

  11. Took delivery of my MK18 today so am looking for accessories and mags.

MWS mags seem to a rare thing nowadays, what’s the hive’s thoughts on the 46 round G&P mags? Or should I just be patient and wait for the TM ones.

Also (and more generally) anyone used a red dot / flip-to-side magnifier combo? Only used dots so far but thinking of expanding my horizons.

Personally I'd be happy to drop the whole BB firing thing to be replaced with low power laser or IR and mechanical recoil.

It would essentially be a version of laser tag with more realistic weapons.

This is actually a pretty good idea, it'd certainly rule out ambiguity as to whether someone's been hit or not although the new version of cheating the chrono will be installing a military grade laser 🤣. Side benefits are that not using a projectile will also appease a lot of the haters and it'd also mean that all the sellers in Mack's whose pew 'shoots like a laser' will finally be correct.

Of course the major barrier is that it's a global sport so you'd either need everyone to swap at the same time or more realistically develop some kind of retro-fit device to turn dry fire into a laser beam.

  13. I wouldn’t say Airsoft is expensive, how much would a day or organised activity normally cost?

As for buying your own kit then, every budget is catered for, we’re all guilty of wanting/buying the best we can afford but in reality all you need is a good pair of boots, eyepro and a pew you can pick up for as little as £100. Comparable to a low end bike.

People don’t like guns in the UK, so socially Airsoft is off to a bad start and it seems to be a bit like fight club - no-one talks about it. I started playing and suddenly found out a load of the people I work with play too - bit of a result for me but I hadn’t a clue beforehand.

Paintball/splatmaster parties for the kids helps get them interested. My two have been and loved it, it’s also an Airsoft site so they naturally see players and see Airsoft as progression from their kid-friendly version.
