  1. @GenuineGerman what are the gun ownership laws in the united Germany? I think that Germans by and large get most things right most of the time and have pretty sensible laws about most things like autobahns; drive as quick as you like/is safe but if you act like a prick we will throw the fucking book at you. It has, probably worthy of a thread of its own! It’s very interesting though because gun ownership is such a polarising issue and actually as a community of RIF owners who probably have more idea about weapon safety/personal accountability than most people (certainly MPs and the ‘ban everything’ crowd!) its fascinating to get other people’s take on something which to my mind is very black and white.
  2. Checks and balances aside, what do you want a firearm for? They have no utility for an average person, at all. If you want to play soldiers and assault buildings and do room clearances you can buy a RIF. They look cool, feel cool and no one gets hurt with them. If you want to shoot targets and properly practice the principles of marksmanship then anything you can achieve with an SA80 you can achieve with a high end .22 air rifle (and a .22 will be a hell of a lot more accurate). Equally useful for pest control etc. If you want to shoot animals you can get a shotgun license very very easily if you are so inclined. There is no reason to own, or want to use, a 9mm or semi automatic rifle save for in a professional capacity. And I can tell you that if you are signing out a 5.56 it is for one reason only and that is to potentially take the life of another man. Therefore the only reason I can arrive at for someone wanting an AR15 is one of the following, and none of which are good enough reasons to give something that dangerous to a normal member of the public; - I just want one (I want to take my knob out in the park, it doesn’t mean I can) - Target shooting (see above under .22 air rifle for alternatives) - The government are coming for me (psycho who definitely shouldn’t be armed) - To defend myself from other people with guns (not a requirement because no one has them)
  3. I will happily take suggestions for anything in the £100ish range and available in the classifieds. I’m not saying a G17 is a great looking piece of design, but a 1911 is ugly a sin. The sawn off is looking more and more like the CQB sidearm winner. Just how to fit it in a chest holster... 🧐
  4. A digression from the core conversation but @GAMBLE I have come down on the side of a glock GBB because; -literally millions of options at a pretty reasonable price. -1911s are pretty ugly. -too trigger happy for a revolver. Much too trigger happy. -extra mags are pretty inexpensive. -no reasonable brownie options available. Undoubtedly that decision will change when we all get to play again and I borrow someone’s glock and decide I don’t like it and then it’s back to wondering if I can viably excuse a sawn off that is nearly as long as my M4 carbine as a ‘side arm’....
  5. Back to the topic of ‘what to wear for CQB’ I think camo trousers (ideally a non UK/US camo) with a black tactical shirt and black rig, shemagh and eyepro makes for a pretty sharp look. Not trying to particularly look ‘like’ any unit in particular but the overall effect is a bit mercenary which I think is quite cool. Camo has absolutely zero benefit and gives no advantage whatsoever other than camo/black/grey/coyote is a cool combination. Knee pad inserts are a must, as are gloves fuck getting shot in the knuckles!). And after the ‘should I get a sidearm’ thread the next addition will be a G17 in a chest rig.
  6. Wholeheartedly disagree with you there mate. Having a RIF is great fun, it looks cool and you can shoot your mates with it. You can’t do that with a real firearm. There is a reason why things like Sandy Hook don’t happen in this country, and it’s because any old knobhead can’t run round with a gun they bought at an indoor market with no checks or license or registration process.
  7. Almost certainly! As the OP I should have clarified that I wasn’t including cadets, ‘I’m going to join the RM/RN/Army’ in my question. They area almost all walts and deeply irritating.
  8. You’ve hit the nail on the head there, I don’t think a 490FPS sniper with 0.5 bbs at 75 yards is particularly painful. Certainly no more painful than a QCB nozzbag with a £40 springer pistol, no MED and .2s that gets the jump on you and pops you in the back of the neck at a couple of meters. There is also an argument here for people who don’t like getting shot shouldn’t do airsoft. I haven’t read the Facebook group (don’t use social media) but it does seem to be the crux of the problem that some people just don’t like getting shot and will bitch and whinge regardless of the FPS limit. The phrase playing silly games winning silly prizes springs to mind...
  9. Cheaters gonna cheat. You can make all the rules you want; - no headshots - minimum engagement - no full auto inside buildings - FPS/joule limits - HPA regulator tagging - hit calling - limited number of re-spawns It doesn’t matter how many rules you make, in an honour based sport if someone decides that they aren’t going to play by then because they want to hurt someone with a hot weapon/game the system and get an unfair advantage then they are going to do that. Dropping the joule/FPS limit won’t make a blind bit of difference because, as my old nan used to say ‘whether they are dancing round a fire in a rainforest or eating chips in Rhyl, some people are just fucking cunts’. I agree with previous posters that any internal discussion about FPS/joule limitations is not helpful and suggests that the current set of rules are inadequate and therefore dangerous, that as a sport we can’t self regulate and be trusted to be safe and therefore should be banned outright. It just plays into the hands of Tory MPs who want to score cheap political points and detract from the colossal fuck up this country has become.
  10. Do non-serving military types find serving military types annoying at an airsoft site (as a general rule)? I am clearly biased being in the latter group, and clearly believe that knowing hand signals and being pretty war-y is of incalculable benefit to my comrades. I would be interested to hear tales/opinions on whether it is. Obviously the stereotype of airsoft players is frustrated infantrymen, and thus that they must LOVE playing with people who are in the armed forces. Clearly there are many many people that play that don’t regard themselves as ‘almost special forces’ so it is more that type of player that I would be interested to hear their take.
  11. I think only a thread for RIFs, but this guy certainly counts as a dreamer? £50 for a pair of issued boots, used, that are £45 new in stores and about £20 for grade 1 surplus.
  12. I don’t know how convinced I am you know. That looks very much to me like they have sold their paintball guns and bought some nuprol rentals and called it an airsoft site... Paintball is a good laugh, but the crowd that it attracts and thus the mechanism of the games and the objectives is very different and doesn’t lend itself well to airsoft. I would be interested to know if they have made any changes to the games/the marshalling since becoming an airsoft site (I think possibly not given that the website still makes multiple references to paintball).
  13. I have nothing to contribute to this project by way of suggestions or ideas, I am just going to lurk and wait for a video of it in operation once it is finished.
  14. If they are for wearing in the winter anything that isn’t a synthetic material. Suede/leather will always perform better when wet. And definitely priorise warm, cold fingers are fucking useless for changing the fire selector regardless of how dexterous the gloves are.
  15. G4Free Outdoor Lightweight Small Tactical Sling Backpack Military Daypack Assault Shoulder One Strap Sling Molle Chest Pack for Camping Hiking Trekking https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083Q4JBDM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_tCfeGb8SAPE2X left field suggestion; a single strap bag? I have never been a sniper nor any intention of taking that role but the ability to slip it off easily might be a benefit? To be honest though I put ‘small military rucksack’ into Amazon and there are a lot of options under £25 that look pretty viable and are well reviewed. Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with a camelback rucksack. An RAF NCO *donated one to me about 10 years ago and I have used it for every holiday/walk/game/deployment since and you would never know other than one slightly sticky internal zip. *he left it onboard the Ship along with a buffalo jacket after embarrassing himself trying to keep up on the rum and never had the nerve to come back and claim it.
  16. A site at Gilkicker Fort would be brilliant. Left field suggestion; Horse Sand Fort...? That would make for a pretty intense CQB setting. Getting 50 odd players over to it might be an issue though😂
  17. I’ve never played with you pal but if you are looking for someone to link up with at a site when lockdown is over I am just at the other end of the A3.
  18. The best way to differentiate between a legit bloke and a scumbag is to talk on the phone. I bought a AEG from @MikeYank and we chatted for about an hour about airsoft in general before we even got round to discussing the RIF. ✅ defence provided ✅ not a scammer ✅ new oppo acquired to skirmish with when lockdown is over If they have are pulling a fast one then they won’t want to speak on the phone.
  19. I think this is being looked at too deeply and there is definitely value to it in two streams; high(er) level field craft; why things are seen, L and flat ambush tactics, pepper pot advance etc. door kicking; single/two man room clearances, stairwell clearances, closed door room breaches etc. Having been taught CQB (or SPF as we call it) at work by RM, practicing coordinated movement and aggressive action is invaluable and would absolutely transfer to airsoft. In the case of the former, I don’t think I have ever seen a well co-ordinated section attack or two axis ambush executed well on an airsoft site. The key to achieving both of those is communication which can absolutely be taught. it depends what the experience of your man is, but I would pay £50 for a day of drilling CQB and door kicking. Maybe offer a group discount for your 4 man squad?
  20. Send me a link to the video shipmate.
  21. Cleanshot seems to avoid the shade being thrown on KM and Nicco and he is as bad if not worse for cheat calling and triple tapping rentals and 15 year olds in the back of the head. I agree with a previous poster that if someone other than KM put some time and energy into good quality video editing and providing a narrative it would be much appreciated by the airsoft voyeurs of this world. There is a lot of shaky/poorly lit/bad audio videos online, and the only alternative is cheat calling and massively hyped video titles that don’t actually reflect the content. I strongly recommend UF PRO as a good YouTube channel. High quality production and some really well informed and explained demonstration of single/two man/four man tactics.
  22. Reference me with pleasure mate. To frame my side of the discussion; I ran round with a sidearm on my chest for many many boardings when I was a junior officer. I always regarded it as a pain in the arse, never came close to even thinking about drawing it. Purely just another thing to have to strip and clean to get the salt out of it. I wondered if it I might suddenly have an epiphany moment and see the point of the extra hassle now that I have taken up airsoft. It seems like the consensus is; 1. Not required for a carbine/aggressive assault role. 2. Desirable for CQB. 3. Extra admin (gas/magazines etc). 4. Satisfying to pop a rental hiding behind cover (which is fun regardless). 5. Pretty if you have a revolver.
  23. Team, Really appreciate all the responses, lots of food for thought. There is a CQB place in Portsmouth in the WW2 tunnels under a fort that I am dying to try once lockdown ends. I think I’ll use that as decision point for whether to get a sidearm; if the carbine feels like running round with a musket I’ll have a look for a second hand GBB. Hopefully the opportunity to borrow one for a game if someone has an extra 9mm in the safe zone will present itself at some point. Dan
