I'd say that's fair play, as it works out exactly the same for the other team either way. I do it myself at times, always being careful to take at least as long as I'd have taken to slow-walk right to the respawn.  However, I do like to set an example by going all the way there, especially if there are any sprint-back-10-paces-then-rejoin jockeys around.

Wow, good job.  You look like you should be on the set of the Walking Dead.  Or half of you, anyway.

Had an amazing time at Dagger Woods on Saturday, one of my favourite days airsofting in a long ol’ time.

Gave the ghillie bits their first proper run out, can definitely see it being more effective once I’m more familiar with the sites I use it at. Fortunately a chap grabbed a photo so I can see where needs some work, namely the boots... and the Mk23 will be making it’s way back onto the chest rig.

(Would loved to have seen how it looked front on, but this photo is useful to see for improvements to make nevertheless)

Had some lovely ambushes and some great long range shots. Everything performed up to or past expectations and the staff and players were fantastic. Such a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived at the site, as someone that suffers with a lot of social anxiety I can’t understate how much this set the day up to be a good one. Superb sportsmanship from start to finish, I don’t think I have anything negative to say at all.

Just one of those days you have every now and then that reminds you exactly why it’s all so worth it.

I certainly got caught in the 'buying things to try and make me happy' throughout the early stages of the COVID situation. Fortunately that led me down a path which has made me fall in love with the game all over again, but it's also left me with a very expensive MWS build that I should absolutely sell on but am in denial about doing so. Selling a RIF before I've skirmished it atleast once is something I've never done, and never thought I would do... but after some frivolous spending to try and put a smile on my face I can absolutely see how it happens.

This is why places used to have websites, but theirs now looks like just a booking page.

Go by the postcode in Google maps and it appears that you park in a lane beside a gate which will have their banner on game days then walk in the gate.

If you can make google photos work then the path should be shown in some photos, but the Google street view car went by when it was shut and there's just a random gate

It'll always come down to your personal feelings on the matter. When folks are carrying around RIFs capable of doing some decent damage up close that aren't listening to instructions I'd rather they became bouncers than shrug, say "Well I tried." and let it continue.

I had a similar experience on my last (and first) trip there back in March. That combined with my general preference to woodland has seen me not return. I could just have been unfortunate with my CQB days but I find non-hit taking much more frustrating in that environment. When you're that close to each other I find it much harder to brush off than when you're shooting from a decent distance.

I've enjoyed F&O sites for the most part (bar the 3 hour long briefings at Anzio), but the standard of marshalling feels like it's been below what it was since service was resumed during lockdown. Always good have a good vent and get it out of your system, fair play for calling it a day rather than lashing out. It's a shame the staff couldn't resolve it, for me personally that'd be the biggest point of consideration on whether to return in the near future or not.

It’s the nature of anything that’s remotely competitive, folks want to push for an advantage and generally speaking that doesn’t bother me at all. I’m very much a ‘you do you’ kind of person, and personally feel (not limited to airsoft) that we spend far too much time scrutinising what other people do.

With that said, binary triggers are one of the very few things I’m not a huge fan of purely down to the reduction in control the user has. I agree with the general sentiment that the RIF isn’t so much the problem as the person using it, but irrelevant of whether you’re a wanker or not if you have a binary trigger it’s firing 2 shots every time you pull the trigger in semi.

I turn up to a game in the knowledge I’m going to get shot at, the difference between getting nailed by a single BB versus a handful is negligible for me and I like to think there is never any malice when folks ‘over shoot’. The point that folks have less control over the quantity of BBs leaving their RIF is the point I get less comfortable.

I can't help but be confused as to what the difference is between a 'tournament gnu' and a... 'gnu'. May just be that the idea of airsoft tournaments isn't a thing I'm familiar with at all, but the listed criteria seems desirable for any RIF. You seem to been pretty successful with the build from your other thread, what makes that one unable to be altered into a 'tournament gnu'... whatever one of those is.

I’ve done it once on a HPA build and wouldn’t want do it again. Unless someone absolutely has their heart set on doing it I wouldn’t recommend it, even more so because this will be your first HPA setup.

Having been there and done it, was I to go down the HPA route again I’d likely pick up an MTW and save myself the headaches... granted the bulk of my headaches were more attached the receivers not playing ball with the front end more than the internals.

You do you at the end of the day, but it seems to me from your posts of late that you haven’t really settled on what you actually want. I’d figure that out ahead of anything else.

Whenever I’ve had leaks form in gas mags my default first step is to empty them of any existing gas and put some Abbey maintenance gas (any heavily lubricated should work, that’s just the specific brand I’ve used) in them and just left it to work it’s magic.

Certainly not guaranteed to work, it largely depends on how severe the leak is but I’ve had a 100% success rate with it so far.

Given you’ve already taken the mag apart it’s likely too far gone to try on this specific mag, but food for thought next time you get a leak.

alxndrhll reacted to Lozart in What Exactly Is Meant by the Term 'Barrel Window'
It's usually down to the measurement in blue. It's usually down to things like whether or not your trying to run R-Hop or ER-Hop etc. Somehave the front and rear edges of the window bevelled outward just to confuse matters even more!

    Example of an extended cut:

It's usually done to be able to hop much heavier ammo in sniper/DMR roles. In a standard AEG it's arguably a waste of time.

Much appreciated, my assumption was that there isn’t really a convention to it as it seems to be such a loosely used term and searches had come up fruitless.

To give context, I currently have an EdGI dual bore barrel in my SRS and have ordered the new Stalker Kraken hop unit (I’ll try anything and everything to be rid of the Silverback FAST hop). I’ve kept up with pretty much everything Wes has been saying in regard to compatibility, from that I knew I’d need to modify the Stalker bucking to fit my current barrel. But now I’m questioning if the size of the window on my barrel is large enough, Wes has stated you ideally want a window of 5mm... but I have zero idea where I should be measuring that 5mm from. The next common sense step is to ask the man himself I suspect!

TLDR I was trying to figure out which of these parts is potentially becoming an expensive paperweight, but it appears much like many things in airsoft it is entirely undefined.

Edit: Having spoken to Wes the 5mm measurement he was refering to was the blue one, so they should work together fine... which is a relief.

It’s the beauty of confirmation bias, which leads to judging folks before it’s ultimately ‘fair’ to do so.

We all do it in some way or another, sometimes consciously and sometimes not. If I had a penny for every time I’ve muttered ‘of course you’ve done that you’re in a [insert car brand here]’ when witnessing some questionable driving from someone in a fancy car. The fancy car is nothing to do with it, they just drive like a prick but my bias takes the path of least resistance in the heat of the moment.

I sincerely wish this wasn’t the case, but we’re only human.

Aye, I think the mistake I made starting off this time round was ONLY thinking about what it is I wanted to be carrying (for reference 2 SRS mags, 2-4 pistol mags, 2 small speedloaders, a Mk23 and hydration) and not for a second considering how I’m going to be using it. Which seems to be largely what you’re saying when it comes to different setups with different RIFs, it’s not always as simple as needing different sized mag pouches... and that’s the trap I fell into initially.

Oh, I agree it's a perfectly valid question. I guess the issue is that what works for one won't always work for another. When you come to wanting different loads for different guns then it gets all the more confusing! For instance, I mostly use M4's but I also have a couple of M14's, a G3 and an M249. One loadout won't work for everything! My first line kit doesn't change though. I have an OPS/UR-Tactical laser cut shooters belt (two part jobbie with a velcro inner) with (starting from my front left and moving around) two Esstac pistol pouches and one Esstac M4 pouch (although that may get swapped for a taco pouch so I can use it for M14 mags too), then a WAS slimline foldable dump pouch and a TMC small Crye style GP pouch. The rest is clear around to my pistol holster which is a Phoenix Tactical Echo kydex custom holter on an FMA adjustable drop leg adaptor (S&S style).

Second line I often run a Spiritus MK3 style chest rig with a triple M4 insert in the back and a double in the front (5 mags total). My last game I had an Emerson UW Gen IV rig set up for my M4 so I put the 7.62 adaptors in the MK3 rig for the M14. If I'm running the M249 then it's either no chest rig or PC or maybe a slick armour carrier.

Much like most airsofters that have been playing a while, I've been through many iterations of gear. I have rigs with a bit more protection for the squishy middle aged parts for CQB games, I have lightweight gear for running around in the woods. I have however learned to not bother with all the crap I don't need - for instance I bought a silencer pouch to hold my tracer for my SCAR. Thing is it's either empty because the tracer is on the gun or it's empty because it isn't dark and I'm not running a tracer. So the pouch is sat in a drawer. I have a radio pouch and a vest antenna on my AVS rig for when I want to cut about running comms but quite often the rest of the guys I play with have left their radios at home so now I just don't worry about it.

Apart from the Warrior stuff though pretty much everything I have is knock offs. I still have a passionate distrust of anything with Viper on it (mostly because it's no better than the shameless Chinese knock offs and more expensive) but the rest of it is plenty good enough for airsoft. I don't need to trust my life to my gear so barring eye pro and boots I'm just not that fussed.

For sure, I guess I started the thread because I was curious as to how folks found what works for them. Whether that was making concessions on the stuff they carried with them, or sacrificing some comfort to ensure they can have it all on their person... or neither because they found that perfect piece of kit for what they needed.

I’ve found myself struggling with my balance of pistol mags for instance. Every time I take 4 I’ve only needed 2, and every time I’ve dropped to 2 I’ve found I could have done with 4... Sod’s law I guess!

I’m currently waiting on belt number 3 *rolls eyes* to show up and have my fingers crossed that this one will fix the ‘riding up’ issue. When I initially started this setup the plan was to just be a belt, but I just can’t get it to work for some reason or another... why I keep throwing money at it rather than settling for what I now have which works fine I’ll never know!
