    Then:
'So, how come you only use a pistol in CQB?'

'Means I can be nimble navigating through, often means I can nail folks before they even have their RIF ready to fire back.'

    Now:
'So, how come you only use a pistol in CQB?'

    '... 🤷‍♂️'

Caveat, I have zero issues with anything going on here. Though it does baffle me slightly that the general concensus seems to be drum mags are 'less of a sin' than AR mags in pistols 😂. I hope you enjoy it, but I certainly don't envy lugging a tank, line and drum mag around. I'm sure it'll be great fun, and a conversation starter at the least. But I dare say the conventional reasoning behind running a pistol only in CQB might be a tad removed at this point 😅.

Edit: Forgot the wrap the post up, that reasoning is why I think running a HPA adapter (be it MP5, which is probably my preference, or AR mag) is the way I tend to lean. You retain a bit more of the reason running pistol only can be such a boon. Also, please get 'Novritsch Fun Cannon Fuel' engraved on that drum mag to truly complete the cycle.

The other benefit alongside how consistent HPA is, is with tuning your trigger. That consistency means you don't have to account for cool down leading to it suddenly wanting to run away from you, so to speak.

I tried it and simply found it wasn't for me, with the reasons being very much specific to me, the big two being:
It just felt weird to hold both because of the bulk of the adapter and the AR mags themselves. I find the same with extended pistol mags (tapped or not), I just can't get on with something protruding that far out of the grip. Having to run a tank on my kit. In general I like to run chest rigs with nothing bulky on my back, and that never felt like an option with HPA and is largely the reason I've left it behind.
Can't fault the benefits when it comes to overall performance, and the 'downsides' are well documented at this point.

Edit: I tended to use a 36" line with HPA'd stuff, when using a pistol 42" felt like a better length. Just gave a bit more freedom of movement. Mileage will likely vary based your exact set up but felt worth mentioning/thinking about.

The arrival of my Ferro Mini Dangler and Crye Stretch Flap sees both of my chest rigs finished (at least for now). The AirLite is set up for when I’m running an AR or AK74, the Microfight is setup for running pistol only in CQB or my VSR (turns out Spiritus Pistol inserts take VSR mags pretty nicely).

And a Vortex Crossfire, pair of NGRS mags and a Laylax NGRS wrench for my birthday from my long suffering girlfriend.

First delivery of repro Zenitco parts for the Krink arrived today. Extremely excited for this all to come together, fingers crossed fitting the hand guard won’t be too much of a pain! And y’know, praying the Krink itself turns up at some point when it’s released from the clutches of UPS.

alxndrhll got a reaction from Druid799 in Tm Ngrs - to Upgrade or Not?
I've largely given up on trying to figure out where I fall, the NGRS I own has all the bells and whistles in it and I bought it second hand as such (I've used stock ones for a few games, but don't own one so there is a definite degree of hypocrisy on my side). I guess I very much subscribe to 'you do you hun' (though I should be careful throwing that around after what happened last time), and accept that often buying something that simply doesn't improve something and having to swallow the pride and rip it out just comes with the territory.

When it comes to buying shit our brains often take over, the reaction generally dictated by subconcious (and occasionally entirely concious) expectations. Which is why it's good to know what it is you actually want to improve, I knew I wanted a MOSFET (happens to be a Titan but that wasn't a specific I was after) because I'm coming back to AEGs from HPA and wanted to keep as close to the instantaneous action as I could. I dare say unless it's a RIF exclusively for CQB ther aren't many that would actively turn down the opportunity for more range, that's just a matter of weighing up what it's costing you (and not in the financial sense). The general concensus seemingly being that reliability/longevity (they seem to be used interchangably in this hobby despite not really meaning the same thing), I'm more than happy to conceed the RIF needing more maintenance/throwing a strop and having to go back in the car on a game day for those improvements.

It's all very subjective based on your own list of priorities you want for/from a RIF. Once you've got that list squared away, you're golden .

Irrelevant of the outcome of what you choose to do you at least know what your benchmark is, that's generally the biggest foul for me when swapping things around. Ultimately the less you change, the easier it is to swap back if you're not happy with the results.

I'm all for folks trying new shit in RIFs, as much as we wish they were no two RIFs/parts will ever be identical. The only true way of knowing if any difference has been made, for better or worse, is knowing what you're comparing against.

Given what it is you actually want to improve I’m not sure too much messing around in the gearbox itself is necessary, and getting to the hop/barrel in an NGRS is extremely easy (assuming it’s an AR/416).

I don’t do my own teching on AEGs in terms of wiring and gearbox work (I’ve only recently gone back to them after a few years on the HPA side of the fence), but I’d generally recommend everyone gets familiar with the process of taking a hop and barrel set up apart and putting it back together, be that installation of replacement parts or simply taking it down for cleaning and reassembling.

Cleaning inner barrels should be routine maintenance (I’d argue regularly cleaning your barrel is the best upgrade to accuracy you can get), and hop buckings are a consumable part. It’s easy work to do, so I’d definitely advise getting familiar with it.

I feel like you’ve done everything folks tend to recommend so far in terms of throwing after market parts in a RIF, you’ve run it stock for a bit and found the things you’d want to improve.

Given it’s a bit more range you’re looking for I’d be looking at swapping out your inner barrel (which will bump the FPS a little), bucking and hop nub. Prometheus 6.03 tend to be the favoured inner barrels (readily available, not the cheapest... but also not the most expensive), as far as buckings and nubs go the general go to options seem to be either Prometheus or Firefly. As you’ve noted in your post, you’re ultimately just looking to be able to lift heavier ammo.

Caveat that if you wanted to keep it a bit more budget you don’t ‘need’ to swap the barrel. I just habitually swap out stock barrels when I swap out buckings/nubs because I’ve already got it taken apart.

Popping a beefier spring in there is also worth considering. Though worth noting this will likely increase the strain on stock parts (which may well start the train of additional things needing to be swapped after time) and won’t actually do much/anything for your range it’ll just mean the BBs get where they’re going quicker.

Eh, I'm assuming the initial sentiment from @Druid799 was more aimed toward a TM NGRS rather than a Prommy NGRS. The biggest element of the equation being QC (whether it's a stock RIF or one with aftermarket bits in it), generally speaking experience would tell me TM QC is superior to mostly everyone elses so assuming you're running it with the recommended amount of juice and the like I think I agree with the initial statement... but as with anything airsoft there is a healthy degree of luck in there either way. I'm very much out of the loop on AEG things but I'd assume the main things that would die while an AEG is in storage would be electronics (lingering moisture) and o-rings (drying out)?

The ‘science of airsoft’ when it comes to optimisation ultimately lands with volume matching to make sure that little cushion of air of shoves your BB along is Bob on, or as close as you can get, for the weight of BB you’re using.

There’s a whole lot of snake oil and horse shit out there in regard to what a longer barrel actually does and I was simply trying to offer some advice because your initial post stated you were ‘under the assumption’ that you might have to buy a different RIF to play in the woods.

Gauging the tone as best I can it seems like somehow you’ve taken offence to that, so I’ll go ahead and exit the conversation there at the risk of ‘flexing my knowledge’ too much again.

A few boring bits to throw in the VSR, some pouches for my TRMRs (and patch) from Andy at TacBelts, an additional Spiritus pistol mag sleeve and AXL Microfight Hi-top Zipper to finish off the CQB chest rig. Initial plan is to plug this into the AirLite harness, but that’ll depend on whether I can be arse swapping out hardware. Also have a Ferro Mini Dangler on the way which is super exciting as the final piece of the puzzle in a few of my load bearing setups.

Largely bolts on to what @Crazy_Crystal said. Weighing up the costs of R&D and production with the demand, Marui only care about the Japanese market. If the various AR iterations of the MWS continue to sell like hot cakes there isn't much of a need for them to deviate and start pumping those sunk costs into something similar. I'm honestly surpised the AK appeared as quickly as it did, which might sound like madness given the gap between the AR MWS coming out and the announcement of the AK.

Such a weirdly unique company, many get burned at the stake because they don't ship to certain countries while Marui trudge along as if the rest of the world literally doesn't exist.

Side note, that's not to say I wouldn't love to see other variants... just can't see it happening any time soon.
