    Noob question

Ah, no worries, we all have to learn this. It's the most important safety rule: eye protection on before you go into the game zone; and mags out, guns cleared[*], and selectors on safe before you enter the safe zone. If you're bringing your own guns rather than renting, then I'd listen out for a shout for rentals on your first day. Tail onto that, and listen in to the rules-and-safety briefing that they're given. If in any doubt on the day, just ask any marshal or other player - airsofters tend to be a friendly, helpful lot, if somewhat prone to magical thinking and wild mis-estimation of ranges. [*] anything that doesn't need a mag to fire, shoot it at the ground until you're sure there's nothing left in the chamber.
  2. Uh... what doesn't your Evo do that you want a new gun to do instead?
  3. Royal Fail tracking is a joke. I've had items delivered that were still showing as being hundreds of miles away. Until the item is in your hands, it's still the seller's responsibility, and only they can make a claim against it. It's quite literally their problem. Don't sweat it, but if it doesn't show up in the promised timeframe, start a refund / chargeback process, and don't close it until you have the item or the money.

As above, the only time you should ever have a mag in it is when you're in the game zone. Any decent site should be telling you this, regularly reminding you of it, and actively checking magwells on entering the safe zone - otherwise it's not safe in any sense. Mag in when you enter the game zone, cock it, job done.
  5. Yes, he's copy-pastad the description, right down to "aluminum" (sic). Interesting to see that CYMA and PatrolBase have cut the price down to sub £100 again. That does reflect the toytown plastic and lack of features compared to Specnas and Lancer Tacticals, it's been a while coming.
  6. Lovely, and I really wasn't joking about the experience. Out of the box, with just a spring change and the hop dialled in, I was living the dream: put crosshairs on head target, squeeze, wait, hit marker ><, splat sound.
  7. You can try running it with the universal holster, although buying a retention holster is cheaper than losing a mag. You might be OK in CQB, as you're more likely to find or have the mags returned, and you'll be using it more often anyway. Or you could file your mag release down to reduce the chance of it dropping them. I do this as I run... "period" holsters.
  8. I don't mind dying for the Emperor, so long as it's to His enemies.
  9. [Team killed coming through a door] "Sorry, mate, didn't know you were red!" OK, try saying that now. [Team killed coming through a door] "Sorry, mate, didn't know you were blue!" OK, try saying that now.
  10. Ah, a lot of us do. 18 and 21 for me, and all the more reason to enjoy ourselves now. CO2 is more consistent than propane-based "green" (/red/black) gas, but I've gone gas out of pure penny pinching, as the thought of piercing CO2 cannister(s) and then not using them during a day is physically painful to Scottish sensibilities. That said, I'll go out with 6 or 7 gassed mags and rarely get through the 2nd one - this isn't a particularly sensible hobby. If you do want to go green gas, the AAP-01 is cheap, functional, gas efficient (as it's bolt rather than slide blowback) and takes readily available Glock mags. I have the AAP-01C variant (along with the usual collection of other pistols) and am happy with it. If you want to drop 3 figures then you're unlikely to go wrong Tokyo Marui - Japanese made, and often cloned. But really, whatever you like the look of is likely the best choice, although I'd stay away from Raven and Vorsk as they're both 2 levels of rebranding away from any manufacturer who cares about the QC.
  11. The Mechanix are a good shout. I used all sorts of cycling / motorcycle / tacticool gloves, but after finally springing on some Mechanix M-Pacts, I think they're idea for airsoft, especially in CQB. Pistols are pretty much hip decoration outdoors, but are viable in CQB and blowbacks are great fun. Do you have a brand or platform in mind?
  12. Ahoy and welcome. I hope your lad has realised that his inheritance is now coming in the form of toy guns. The Nuprol is... well, affordable. If it feeds off of generic M4 midcaps that's probably a decent sign that it's not full of weird components. Long term, you'll rarely regret having a basic AR as a backup / loan gun. The Dye is a good shout, you'll never regret money spent on eye / face protection. Out of interest, what site(s) are you playing at? I ask because lasers are prohibited everywhere I play.
  13. Oof, I'm very sorry to hear that. What @Tackle said, contact whoever you used to make the payment and ask them to do a chargeback. Don't go into details, just "I paid £400, the event was cancelled, the vendor isn't responding". You've nothing to lose by trying. Best of luck.
  14. <but-why.gif> True though, and Novritch has a video (which currently escapes my search skills) where he demonstrated that by building a short-barrelled sniper with a heavy piston wrapped in wire that crept to a crazy degree when fed heavier BBs. The indoor sites that I play at with a 0.25g limit still put 0.2g BBs into our mags for chronoing. I mean... why? Ancient habits? Put in 0.25g, eat that extra 20p cost for the entire chrono session.
  15. Ah, right. Most sites should now be chronoing with the BBs that you're using, with limits specified in Joules. Bolt actions tend to be limited to 2.3J, but it's entirely up to the local site. I'd encourage you to stop thinking in terms of "fps" and 0.2g, it's old habit. I can tell you what energy my guns are putting out with the BBs that I use, but have no idea what fps that is.
  16. Fair enough if they're all consensual, but eventually he'll send it off as a trade to a guy with a Dundrum postcode.
  17. That's got Dave's Custom Airsoft written all over it. yOu GeT wHaT yOu PaY fOr.
  18. Ahoy and welcome. Yup, we've been plagued with scammers using fake pictures, so have had to crack down. Caveat emptor still applies, but it does it least weed out the most casual of them.
  19. As a last-ditch expedient, you can remove the hop unit spring and see if that worsens the air seal (urgh, it feels dirty even saying that). Final last-ditch, stack some tape between the gearbox or hop unit It could mess with your feeding or consistency, but it might at least get you playing.
  20. Good call, you'll often see folk ending the day with far less gear than they started with
  21. Fully-semi-bolt-action. Nice of them to list that the pink slide is next to the green bolt, for those watching in black and white.
  22. Everything they said. It's a great hobby, and ideal for us more experienced chaps and lady-chaps to enjoy at our own pace. Do you have a particular LARP theme in mind yet? We're all doing it, to some extent. 😜
