Anyone going to the The Depot - Port Glasgow 27/03/22?
Rogerborg replied to Gloombones's topic in Other Events and Meets
I've not been there yet. @Musica has been a few times. From what I understand, it's currently quite... intense. The site is huge, but only a small part of it has been developed so far, and the games can hinge on who holds the choke point in each game. It's very dark and a torch will be very helpful. The site owner Jonno knows his stuff and they're constantly improving the site. If you have any issues during the day, I would encourage you to take it up with the marshals and Jonno in a positive and constructive way. I'll likely be there sometime in April after they stop with the Spy-n-Snitch theatre. -
Best delivered-to-door 2.32J spring sniper for non poors?
Rogerborg replied to Rogerborg's topic in Single Action Guns
You know, I hadn't even considered it because of reasons, but it does meet the requirements. 🤔 The heart says SRS, but it's hard to argue against the SSG10. I guess if I cave on the "nothing needing doing" and allow throwing some parts it it, then the AAC T11 comes into play, with a 90 degree trigger as standard. -
If someone wanted to purchase a bolt action airsoft gun that shoots at 2.32J ("500fps"), with the highest likelihood of being consistent at 60m with 0.45g BBs without needing anything else done to it, where would they be looking? No HPA, no CO2, no propane. Form factor and platform is flexible. "Delivered to door" covers stock guns, and buying from a pre-upgrader who actually knows what they're doing and can actually deliver in the next 6 weeks. Not "Buy this, if it's in stock, then install these parts if you can find them, then do that to it, then hope for the best". If Mila Kunis said "Send me one box containing the best bolt action sniper at UK energy limits and maybe you're in with a chance, big spender", what would you waste your money on?

Teamkills are kills too. I'm forever funnily friendly fragging fine folk.

Go on, say it, say "What could possibly go wrong?"

We live in a world where people sell (and buy) "BOX ONLY" listings on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw="box+only" Granted, that's mostly likely them looking to flip salvage as "BNIB". In the hello airsoft world, I suspect that sellers are more keen to believe and assert that this adds value than buyers.

It seems as Action Fraud / National Fraud Intelligence Bureau pass cases on to local Forces, who put most of them straight in the round file. https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmicfrs/wp-content/uploads/state-of-policing-2021-single-page-format.pdf - page 49

I'd respectfully disagree. The Orion gearboxes are notoriously weak, the XASR does nothing except offer contact protection and spit its dummy if you put a meatier motor in, and they are fussy about mags. My Edge SA-E02 has been fine, but I've been lucky. If I were buying an M4 now in that price range, I'd be looking the Double Eagles M9xx Fire Control System guns.

How much are customs / import and shipping costs from WGCShop to UK?
Rogerborg replied to datapagan's topic in Places to Buy
And potentially another £15-20 bill from the courier for the privilege of handling your payment for the above, and with unknown shipping periods from Hong Kong, anywhere from a few days if it sails through to many (many) weeks if it turns into a whole "show your defence" issue. It seems to be a complete lottery at the moment, you'd have to really want one to gamble on it. [Must try not to rant about CO2 air pistol versions being £83 in the UK without a defence needed] -
SkyRC iMAX work fine, but are old technology. Our RC chums from the future tend to suggest the SkyRC S65 or B6 variants now.

Oof, thanks for including the PDF. That's a hot mess right there. It's encouraging that they even know about airsoft and distinguish between RIFs and IFs, but doing it for parts is going over-and-above what they're required to do. For one thing, you could put that part on a day-glo orange base and it still wouldn't be a RIF. I'd hope it's just some jobsworth covering his back by requiring a completed form, but not giving a stuff about the actual details.

+1, I see a 500 error with no hint as to why. My memes, my beautiful memes!

Re-enforcing my observation that if we just blocked all account names ending in a number, all of this problem would go away overnight.

It seems a little opaque who is actually covered by a Simple UK Light licence. A Simple Site licence seems clearer, as it's tied to a base station at a fixed location. In practice, I'm sure that if you can just rattle of a licence number it will end any discussion. But strictly legally speaking, it does beg the question of how far you can distribute a licence. If Alice is licensed, she can transmit. But how closely associated does Bob have to be with Alice to also be covered for transmission? And does it have transitory properties? If Bob is considered licensed because he's talking to licensed Alice, is Charlie covered if he can hear and talk to Bob, but not to Alice? I note that the licensee has to be a legal entity. If that's an individual, I can't see how you could reasonably argue that it covers anyone else. An "Unincorporated Association" seems be a safer bet if you want to share it among a team. I mean for definitions of safety that involve no practical risk to begin with.
-
Further, both of them can use the PMR466 frequencies to talk to poors. I'd question the value of a UV-9R for UK airsoft purposes, unless you're on a particularly huge site, as the UV-5R has a decent enough range as it is. Still, we spend much more for much less without blinking.

Fair enough, then it's worthwhile going for quality. I do think it would be helpful if we opened our kimonos, so to speak, when asking for or offering advice. The answer to "wut am best?" usually needs qualified with "best for what purpose, and what budget?"
-
We all shout "Hit!" alone. I'd recommend that you lone wolf it and see if you actually enjoy airsoft before getting invested in the whole team Omega Seal Delta Recon Force experience.

It's tricky to figure out if it's not slamming in hard enough, or deep enough. Our strikers might be made from monkey-metal nails, for all we know. Preach, I think my TRMR multishot base is running a random bearing from a pack that I used to rebuild a trackball.
-
Thanks for the follow-through. I have to have a similar go at my TRMR, which is also light-striking now. Given that we're looking at a fraction of a mm between bang and bust, it's amazing that any of our shed-built toys ever work at all.
-
I'd keep checking back on that one. Yup, that's the significant difference to the mainland. While both of the above remain true, this might actually be an interesting wheeze, depending on what the VAT situation is (or can be made to appear).
-
Seems pretty average around these parts, apart from the rash of "wut am best gnu for £30?" fresh meat every half-term. Good to have you back. A spring shotgun is a brave choice in CURRENT_YEAR, I'd be looking for CQB and semi-auto-Sunday style games to make the most of that.

Almost done iranian embassy seige loadout
Rogerborg replied to parramoom's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Presumably there's also some sort of snorkel attachment that lets you smoke your tab through the respirator? -
That's appropriate for that site, it's just a way for people with stuff to donate to find other people who can pass it on. Whether it's a particularly useful site or not will depend on the number of people using it. With genuine respect, if you know a bloke who's accepting stuff, why not tell us who it is? If people can't get their stuff to him via you, they may be able to do it themselves. Every little helps, right?
-
That's maybe where we differ. I'd consider that to be good going for any airsoft GBB, or GBBR for that matter. If you're doing a lot of practical pistol or running it as an HPA'd primary, it would be disappointing. But how many gas pistol magazines (full mags, not tactical reloads) do you get through in a skirmish day, even running in CQB? When I look at the value proposition of the AA R17 per day, or per shot, I'm happy enough with mine. The consistency isn't brilliant, although I might be sad if I'd tried anything better. There's some shininess around the trigger parts, but not significant wear yet. I wouldn't recommend one for target shooting or as a regular use primary. As an occasional bit of fun, eh. For context, I also run spring shotguns and even a spring pistol a couple of times just for variety, I'm not looking for winr8.
-
Depends on the site, but I reckon many woodland players would be as well carrying a springer pistol just for looks. On topic, I just threw a Maple Leaf 50 degree GBB bucking into my AA R17 and got on with using it. The barrel could probably be improved, but I don't think the gas consistency of a GBB pistol (day to day or shot to shot) really warrants chasing perfect performance.
