  3. New SE Tour Review is up. AWA Herts!

  4. Site Name: AWA Herts Contact details: 07732 184957 Website Address: http://www.awaherts.com/ Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/AwaHerts/ Site Address: Matthams Wood, Sawbridgeworth, Herts, CM21 0LT My battle buddy and I popped along to AWA Herts on Sunday (28/07/2019). The site has been going 16 years. Previous online reviews suggest it is a pretty good site. This one has been on my hit list for some time. This is a Large sized Woodland only site. Little in the way of ascent and descent with some slopes and a earthen bunker section. There are some purpose built buildings which are of wooden construction typical of airsoft sites. Some water features though they weren't in play. Mostly medium engagement distances are the order of the day. It has some fairly dense woodland with some clearings. Entrance to the site is through a farm track. Good: Chrono: A mandatory chrono was in affect and every rifle was marked. AEG FPS limits are a high 360FPS. DMR is 450 and Bolt actions are 500. Users own BB weight is used for testing. Gas pistols are usually not tested unless its C02. Fun Moments: Couldn't quite put our finger as to why, but we had some good moments during the day from a personal performance level. The Bunker defence game was a highlight for me, batting back people with my DMR was deeply satisfying. My battle buddy had possibly his best performance in airsoft. Clientele: Whilst not overly friendly (Not a huge amount of mingling between groups) everyone took their hits like a champ. I cant remember a time where people weren't calling them. Honest bunch. Average: Playing area: Standard woodland fare. It's a large site, but not massively varied. The amount of foliage around meant that long distance engagement was difficult. The Buildings were in fairly good order though looking a little tired. The bunker was an earth mound with brickwork tunnel running underneath. Food: A nice burger, with a veggie option. Chocolate and drinks available. We felt the burger price was a bit high at £5 for a double. Marshalling: Generally positive with a "but". The marshals were approachable, the safety brief was not overly long. They pushed the teams and gave help when needed. I reported an incident of one of my team giving out enemy positions after they called their hit. I reported it to a marshal who said they had already had a word with the player a couple of times and asked me if I could have a word with him? The marshals should have sat on him for it. Game modes: Pretty simple game modes, mostly attack this point with unlimited lives, defenders only have 2 lives. Timed game and then a turn around. The bunker game was pretty insane though and as stated before, a highlight. I think more variety here would be good, maybe a fall back game to take advantage of the large site. Despite the large site, short and fast games were played. We aren't sure this is the right choice though I guess this is a personal opinion! Parking: Was available on a long strip of tarmac. Can imagine it would be a little difficult to get past cars when busy, but there is plenty available. Get there early to get close to the safe zone. Safe Zone: Good size for the low numbers we had, but it was pretty tired in places. There was cover but not particularly effective, with rainwater collecting on top of a lot of them. Seats were made available. The tables were more like low wooden pallets (Though we did snag one of the few decent tables). Providing seats meant that this wasn't rated as "Bad" but it was a close thing. Bad: Shop: Limited selection of Smoke, Gas and BB's. Only .2's and .25's available. There was a very small selection of accessories and one RIF. Toilets: I recall a portacabin. I didn't need to go but kids setting up next to us refused to go in it due to the condition and/or smell. Conclusion: We had a reasonably good time at AWA. What we both came away with is that its a pretty average site, with no massive positives or negatives to take away from it. There is no obvious USP, but no massive red flags. My buddy put it best, "A local site for local people". We probably wont be back as there are closer sites to us that offer a bit more for a bit less money. I think for this site to attract people from further away minor improvements need to be made across the board. Bullpup Watch: Three, L85, Aug and UAR. (None mine).
  5. Not a "what I bought" but "what have I been gifted for my birthday!". My @Battle_Buddy surprised me with this whilst playing at AWA Herts! Two shots. 140 FPS on Ultragas. It doesnt shoot straight. I dont care! Its gorgeous. I nearly hit someone with it today as well! Really cheered up my day with all my rifles and pistol failing. In fact this is only thing that worked all day!
  6. Put over a thousand rounds in my LMG at home since I upgraded it. First pull of the trigger on its first game day and sounds like the gears/piston is gone. Bloody hell!

Just put some new ZCI Advanced 18:1 gears in it. Shim heights are correct as well as motor. Sounds a bit loud still. But should do for now.

For best results watch through speakers or headphones. Phone speakers make it sound much worse!

  7. On occasion. I do try to avoid it. The Dorset section there is no need to as there are plenty of camping sites. East Devon is also good for camping. West Devon is more of a struggle and I had to wild camp or go further inland. Cornwall I have started using more Youth Hostels as there are plenty about. I take quite a few photos of my travels too, though i am not much of a photographer. Heres a few from the St Just to Zennor section, probably the second toughest section on the whole path for undulations. Honestly, go and do something like this, I go solo and its a very rewarding feeling, though many times I have just wanted to give up and go home.
  8. I ordered a new ZCI 6.02 363mm for my XM8 Recently. Went to put all the project parts together and realised I had already bought a ZCI barrel in anticipation for the XM8 a month previously...

...I guess i'll need to buy another gun to put it in ;) unless of course I put it in my new Tavor whenever it arrives, would be fairly over volumed though.

  9. Airsoft is not my main passion. That has to go to long Coastal hikes. I am most of the way through completing the South West Coastal Path. Lots of nostalgia for me being from Bristol and holidaying in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset as a kid. its over 600 miles long and with enough ascent to climb Everest over 4 and a half times. This is my current progress chart. (The Brown is the Somerset Coastal path, which I have also completed. )
  10. Completely agree with everything stated. I said this in my Apoc review some time ago. I do not want to take out 30 minutes of my day for a UKASA Sales pitch. It's such a shame as the playing area is right up there with the best sites.
  11. Latest SE Tour Review is up. Brand new Urban/CQB site within Oyster card distance.

  12. I have a big head in proportion to the rest of my body. THANKS IM CRYING NOW 😞
  13. Rocking the KSG with the Mag Adapter in the daylight for the first time. Nice to actually see where the bbs go for a change! Had bags of fun with this. All KombatUK BTP Black kit.
  14. Been invited to a last minute initial test day skirmish at an Urban training centre in Surrey. Time to finally bring out the KSG for some shotty fun! Hopefully this site will be open to the public in the near future.

A whole weekend of airsoft for me! This tomorrow and AP on Sunday. I'm in heaven 😉

  20. I am such a clutz and force my way through so much hedge on the average skirmish that I cant help that think everything will fall out.
  21. For my birthday the missus has purchased me another AirsoftPro G36 Hop unit, making it my 4th one and its going in my new XM8
  22. I'll be honest, I haven't much experience of motors outside of stock ones or the Rocket Green 16/22TPA and the SLD 22TPA. The SLD is good for builds where you are going to short stroke or DMR, it's a bit slow for an aftermarket motor if using with a standard gearset, but it has all the torque you need to pull a heavy spring for short stroking etc. For best performance use with a 9.9v life or 11.1v lipo. The screw down tabs are quite long and I had to dremel out part of a V6 gearbox to be able to set the motor height. It's also a little noisy, so I wouldn't use it for quiet builds. The Rocket green TPA is my favourite motor, it's relatively cheap, very fast and relatively quiet has a good amount of torque for a 16TPA. Cant fault it and it's quite good for both short stroking and standard gear sets. The 22TPA version is incredibly powerful whilst still being fast and should only be used in DMRs and shortstroked builds, even when used on a 7.4 lipo it was over spinning my standard gear set F2000 double shot on semi. My favourite stock motors are the SRC Neo Magnatar series which has a surprising amount of torque and whatever S&T put in their ARX160s (Has the same can as the SLD but less Torque more speed) not sure if its Neo but is a good ferrite if not. One motor that completely surprised me was when I swapped out a Standard JG ferrite in my MP5 is the TM EG1000 ferrite and it goes like absolute stink on a standard gearset and 7.4 lipo, it needs to be heard to be believed. Goes to show that the EG1000 is still a very viable motor for standard builds. So my opinion is to spend a little extra over the tempting SLD and go for the Rocket Green. It's incredible value and according to Sam of KOA fame it's almost as good as an Action Army 40k.
  23. Another order from @ak2m4. Part one of two eventual orders to fix various issues with existing and incoming RIFs. 2 x Acetech Mosfets to replace my Pico Gate AB ones in the SL8 and XM8. I cant trigger spam with the gate without locking up. 1 x 5 inch outer barrel extension for my XM8 DMR plan. 1 x Maple Leaf 60 degree VSR bucking. Replacing a 70 degree one to see if I can lift .48s on my troublesome bolty. 1 x ZCI 363mm 6.02 inner barrel. My newer XM8 is mechanically sound and shooting at a healthy 330 FPS, this should take me closer to 350 and tighten up the grouping.
  24. I guess if you cant justify your pricing you dont really want to discuss it. Sorry you must have got burned buying these rifles in the first place at whatever inflated price you got them for, but its no excuse to knowingly charge those price to someone who could be gullible. A silencer can be had for as little as 6 quid same with the mag. Why would anyone buy a sprayed, second hand (possible ex two tone) G36c, when they can get a new one for much less? Ok, Phenix in France are doing the P90 for 115 quid add an additional 20 for shipping and its still priced under your second hand one. https://www.phenixairsoft.com/en/air-spring-rifles/18126-cyma-p90-ris-dominator-w-silencieux-cm060h.html
