    51% rule

Short version - no Unless other legislation applies (you’re a criminal forbidden from possessing, or are irresponsible in public etc) then you’re all good The VCRA requires a ‘principal colour’ to be one of the listed bright colours (VCRA section 38) Thats generally interpreted as >50% to be the principal colour But as a buyer it’s not your problem, any VCRA sales offence is committed by the seller It’s up to them to worry about potentially needing to justify an IF sale The VCRA does not cover possession, and the only offence you may make under the VCRA is modifying an IF into a RIF (which may not be an offence if your intent remains to play airsoft skirmishing on insured sites)

    UKARA

Note that the UKARA formed as the lobbying group campaigning and negotiating on behalf for the airsoft retailers to gain the added skirmisher defence (without which their wouldn’t be the defence of playing on an insured site) The UKARA scheme was one of the propositions offered up to justify the defence (Note that often when new players talk about getting their UKARA licence and are ‘corrected’ by Airsofters, the new player is closer to the truth - the proposed UKARA membership scheme was described as a licence scheme for airsoft skirmishers) The UKARA central register is free to players, but is run as a copy of site memberships, therefore sites may charge as they wish - usually a membership fee, possibly an admin charge and sometimes just free You can opt to use anything that you wish to justify your ‘VCRA skirmisher defence’ but it’s up to the seller (Or customs) to decide what they are willing to accept A retailer is liable to a fine if they make a RIF sale without justifying a valid defence. This comes with a level 5 fine, which is unlimited. (A level 4 fine is £2500) You might think that a UKARA / membership is money-making, or that the need to play 3 games in a given period just makes more RIF rental income for the particular sight, but they are avoiding a potential fine With unlimited fines possible it’s hard to see why certain retailers risk using obvious made up defences such as cosplay which just invite an easy prosecution

  4. Good question (particularly as I often refer to >50%) …. So on that basis paint one side plus a bit more. The wording is ‘size, shape or principal colour’. Its an interpretation / my interpretation that 50% or less is not a ‘principal’ colour. There is also the matter of patterns, I can’t remember if it’s in the legislation / statutory instruments etc or was just in a guidance document. But I have see a reference to solid colours / patterns which would render a gaming style bright camouflage pattern as not necessarily compliant I personaly would consider a one side bright colour to be a much better attempt than many I’ve seen
  5. Shall I just comment that you have not even changed an IF into a RIF? Two tones don’t exist in the law, the VCRA requires an IF to be over 50% of one of the specified colours Blue is not a VCRA compliant colour, bright blue is, one part of the frame is not over 50% of the body - (though in this case it could be a matter of measuring some areas) (Rhetorical question) Why do retailers bother to paint a part of the body a non compliant colour ? But they have tried a little bit harder than those who promote false defences ……… Well done you for fixing a well executed but flawed attempt at making an IF
  6. It could be a bit late ….. but if parts are still in a bath of chemicals keep a good eye on it all Back in the mists of time I was planning to repaint model soldiers which had been drowned in paint by someone else I dutifully tested some and all was good, paint softened and could be brushed off with no effect on the figures Then I put them into a bath of thinner (in the garden to be wise about fumes() and stepped away …. After a couple of hours the thinner was looking like soup, I reached in and lifted out sagging moulten figures ……
  7. Technically it can …. Or just put some wheels on it
  8. You’ve done the donkey work. Initially ‘just’ a reusable grenade - something you can throw with a timer and detonation Your latest shows something that can be used as a grenade, or apparently with other modes such as the ‘activated’ device and countdown. In itself a game format could be written around that - find a device, take it to a location and activate it If you have a deactivate button then the defenders could save themselves (and perhaps then Or expand on the device. Instead of just running a game that uses the device, programme a few game types into the device: A maximum game time - start the clock at game on Two modes on what happens if it is ‘defused’ - either the game ends and the defenders have won, or it can be rearmed and you have a game running back and forth until there is a successful detonation or game time runs out Once you’ve started it’s more constrained by imagination than anything else It does spiral though. The attached photo is one stage of a test bed / prototyping device. We have run a few events with devices that one of our guys makes, I bought an old ‘commercial’ site prop at an auction which needed some fixing, and it became a lockdown project to get it back running, identify its modes and then also produce new ideas of a combination of different game formats and the devices to run them I’m not showing the rest, but the underlying software can go into a cased device or another ‘object’ such as your grenade/device The screen & keypad aren’t required, just some form of input/output which can be keys, buttons, screens, audio, beeps, lights …. And other things Post COVID I have a host body built for a new device which just needs spare time to make particular holes and assemble the components
  9. At what point does Jez realise that they are no longer refining an electronic grenade but have fallen down the rabbit hole full of all the potential prop device functions, and the ability to configure game modes & rules?
  10. On the use of strobes it’s a very tricky matter I was surprised to play a game once where we were allowed to use them, and we did - using a lights strobe mode to distract along a hallway We have also used strobe lighting and strobing pyro for a couple of events. This is quite a nightmare to plan for, ensuring that no players or staff have photosensitive epilepsy or other related conditions , then add on the worry of someone who does not yet know that they have photosensitive epilepsy / other conditions and also the added risk of all the distractions and added confusion that it brings to the gameplay The easy answer for a site (and it’s insurance) is to just say no
  11. Ditto Double ditto Either you want to worry majorly about the battery in there Or you have previously burnt your desk
  12. Also known as hat size adjustment foam, to the customers of a particular store
  13. We have had one school shooting in the UK, and some mass shootings We didn’t take it well to see dead children in the news The OP decided he didn’t want his gun collection at the time
  14. Two way hip flask Cheap side for sharing decent side for myself
  15. I’m out of vinyl/rubber wear after I recently off loaded the remainder of my last bondage auction lot to a lead singer/guitarist. I’ve a load of leather gear in assorted sizes which will be available once he’s checked them out Or is that the wrong kind of vinyl?
  16. Now we’re getting serious
  17. We’re on similar pages
  18. Don’t ask how I know this …… but liquid latex / plasti-dip are useful products There are devices that exist which could possibly be used to open up inner tubes to make it a bit easier to drop in the device But having those in you’re toolbox tend to raise eyebrows more than liquid latex
  19. Still have mine When the EU passports came out you could buy black/blue covers, perhaps someone will come out with burgundy covers ???
  20. I’ve been meaning to hop in since seeing the title of the thread, and making my assumptions that is was about DIY pyrotechnics, particularly as I was seeing mk1 & mk2 in the updates but I’ve been busy in the lead up to today As per my accompanying photo I can just about squeeze in some time to properly read and comment ….. I’m relieved that @Jez_Armstrongis fairly safe from self destruction and a terrorism arrest I’m liking both ideas. Mk1 makes good use of an existing product Mk2 builds on that My main dislike of mk1 was the need to stop it, but it seems like you can crack that (as a site prop I’d be less worried about it being on until reset - but it would depend on the environment as an alarm in a confined underground room is a bit different to woodland) Good idea, good fun project. …… and it’s up to the site if they let you use it The key problem with devices is losing them, shutting them up and retrieving them You appear to be thinking along those line
  21. But we wanted the black ones …. That weren’t black Was this dress made from recycled British or EU passports? Made in Poland By a French / Dutch company using Italian ink on Spanish paper …. Possibly Though the passport office won’t give details on where exactly passports are manufactured, only that the contract is with Thales group and the personal details are printed in the UK https://factcheckni.org/topics/europe/are-uk-passports-produced-by-non-uk-companies-2/
  22. Award yourself a biscuit (a fancy one) for taking the effort to update us Great result
  23. Shoot them It is not overshooting if you shoot someone who is already eliminated, it is overshooting to continuously send in a barrage at the same person not giving them a chance to get out If you play any game under my rule sets then sneaky players are encouraged If a player is just bimbling along they may be a sneaky player trying to not look agressive They could be an eliminated player not showing (Or they could be an eliminated player deliberately obstructing and cheating) The eliminated player must accept being shot if they are not showing they are eliminated. It’s their problem If they don’t want to be shot then they can put their hand up (or show a dead rag)
  24. Try being subtle in a corner of Waitrose car park when the guy who was bringing a prop has just called to tell you he’s ill and no longer coming, and you have about an hour before picking up another couple of guys and still need to reproduce the prop This prop being a briefcase needing to be filled with clear sandwich bags of flour
  25. The website doesn’t list the specifics https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/96291-longest-airsoft-target-shot …. and the video is a ‘recreation’, so the video contents may or may not differ from the ‘real’ attempt Official records will usually have a set of rules (such as the settings and also I would guess a flat horizontal shot to avoid tricks such as angling upwards to add range) However, it is all of course a PR stunt with all the parts used being available to buy from the record holder
