Sad news for a paintball site, but an opportunity for airsoft…. The following has been posted on Facebook by the owner of ‘OnTarget games’ regarding their Callington site in the PL7 postcode area Further details are below in italics quoted from Martello, but the jist of the situation is that the paintball market in the area has dropped, it’s not sustainable as paintball only. They have two opportunities proposed as either a partnership or to fully transfer the site over. Part of the video below gives an overview of the Callington site, but the rest of the video and play list are about building one of their other venues A sad day... We have had to make the horrible choice to close our Callington venue to paintball. The pandemic was a struggle, after lockdown we were as busy as ever, but the cost of living seems to have driven the kids birthday groups away. The catchment area can't provide enough paintball bookings to keep it going on its own. We have briefly spoken to the landowners who could be open to expanding the area available to make it better for airsoft if anyone was interested in taking it on. But unfortunately I don't have the time or investment to make this happen on our own at the moment. It has permissions for wargaming activities from the council etc, seems such a shame after all the hard work. But that's life... Our Newquay venue is still going thanks to stag parties 😎. I'm open to offers to take it on as a partnership with someone else as an airsoft venue or they can make an offer for the site as it stands. But we can't continue as it is on our own. UKARA licence theory test perhaps

Definatley …… and you never know even with failed crowd funding, (except for the ‘pay me to develop my idea’ as opposed to ‘pay up front to get production going’) the videos show that at least prototypes were made and they could ultimately find their way out to the world and eventually sold on For a not actually bouncing ‘bouncing Betty’ there is/was the RAP4 series, and a couple of other brands. These did make production, still not a lot as a niche product and over a decade ago, but they could be about. Spares could be harder to find, but the one with just a round seal is probably findable as a rubber grommet I can’t find footage of the ones we used here: A real benefit for use is they can be buried rather than just flicking leaves around, however for that event we used our ones plus a stack on loan from RAP4. All good, except when it came to digging them all up. We were short, and it was loan ones that were missing (potentialy sticky fingers as ours had markings and the loan ones were clean and fresh anonymous from the box) or sunk into the mud We had a few follow up sessions with metal detectors, and also over a few months the site were finding them. I think we ended up with all of them or a couple missing All original placements were photographed and Geotagged, but we made the mistake of sending other people to reset and didn’t entirely remember where they were placed —- it’s buried on the path near a bush across from a tree It was a 12gram powered one that we used, pop in a 12 gram, some powder and a leprechauns condom. Step on it and a pin punctured the 12 gram, the tiny rubber condom built up some pressure before bursting a spout of powder The videos I can find seem to be using refillable cartridge valves like 40mm shells Traditional ‘plate’ styled mines: These are similar to the ones we used, but actually has a better safety. A pin locks the pressure piece so it can’t be triggered when setting up (I mentioned the potential lack of safe disabling on the bouncing Betty, but our original RAP4s could be unscrewed and rendered safe even without a safety pin) But a safety pin when setting up would be useful - on our first use one of the guys asked ‘how many turns should I do?’ Just as he made a twist and blew powder into my chest …. ‘One leds turn than that’

It was a crowd finding product a few years ago, and with being a niche complex product that seems to only be on the internet in promo videos it probably didn’t get very far. Bad signs are complexity, it can’t be fully buried, it looked like it could not be disarmed (triggered by radar or activated by remote) unless it’s a bad translation the ‘disarm’ mode is to fire it off Ideally that’s poor translation, it’s fair enough that the gas is charged and would need to be released but you don’t want the only way to deal with projectiles to be firing them. I would want to be able to disable the radar and to be able to pop in a safety pin or remove the top.

In that case the answer to your original question is yes You will still be under 18 so cannot qualify for UKARA and cannot purchase Your parents can, and as a gift is permitted to give it to you (and scrub my university comments, didn’t read ‘college’ properly

What @Rogerborgsaid You’re an existing player, who has played at a site or sites for over 2 years. UKARA is a central register based on site membership. On your 18th you are eligible for UKARA and a site can happily use your under 1& games as qualifiers as the intent of the UKARA is to confirm you play / intend to play airsoft Another option is to see if your university has an airsoft society ….. or whether you can form one. Soton university were able to establish themselves as a ‘UKARA site’ enabling members who played at their events on a selection of sites qualified without having to go to only one for the qualifying period

RIFs aren’t toys under a certain power, it’s airsoft guns (RIFs/IFs that are exempted from other firearms legislation under amendments in the Policing and crime act. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/3/part/6/crossheading/firearms/enacted (5)After section 57 insert— “57AException for airsoft guns (1)An “airsoft gun” is not to be regarded as a firearm for the purposes of this Act. @RogerborgI think that @Hazzamight need to ask the site about their rules …. @hazza As a combination of the fact that I’m a paintballer, being familiar with the medical history of an American who goes by the name of ‘One eye’, and having both witnessed and heard many tales of Marshall’s getting BBs either wedged into the side of their glasses type eye protection, or getting inside the eye area and also having seen the result of ‘high jinks’ of dry firing with co2 blasting dust into the eye …….. I’m always going to recommend full face goggles. As an alternative in airsoft I’ll then recommend a second option of ski goggle type eye protection, provided it meets impact standards and also seals around the eye area. As you want to wear a helmet look at low profile goggles such as Dyes, which are designed for small profiles (But as with all goggles depends on your head size & shape - youngsters may have small heads which render the Dye family as ‘standard’ rather than small But ultimately - ask the site that you intend to play at, as everyone’s rules vary

As long as it’s put together properly, and depending on the type of strap A full on, multilayered, thick MOLLE strap will pretty much stay put as soon as it sees the base, but will bring on swearing to cold fingers attempting to get some movement in the strap to attempt a weave. But a cheap chinese airsoft / paintball MOLLE strap will float away at the slightest breeze, and the uneducated will be seen with flapping pouches due to the failure to weave —— unless they fly away after meeting the first bush All these systems are just that, a load carrying system. The best could be a well stitched purpose built rig, configured for the individual and role. (Cue tailoring shops around all garrisons in the UK constructing/securing custom webbing systems) But that relies on the role staying the same, or multiple rigs ready for each role. Cue the change of name from webbing to load carrying system, and ALICE being one of many steps between old school slip on pouches with belt & yoke webbing rigs to (almost) full modularity under MOLLE - until the next systems

The ‘law’ doesn’t say that under 18s are to specifically wear full face protection. Site rules and their liability insurance require full face protection. Safety standards in require compliant eye protection, but in airsoft that is the minimum standard and sites/risk assessments & mitigation and insurers are allowing over 18s a level of self responsibility In paintball there are long established standards which went from “this is a new thing and there is no safety standard, but we don’t want to be sued, so you must wear eye protection and try to avoid shooting heads in case it comes off” to attaching face shields, and ultimately setting international standards of paintball protective goggles which cover the eyes, face & ears and chin straps Your question should be directed to the sites that you play at …. And be prepared to get one answer in advance and to get a different answer when you turn up and try to play

There is no major drama - all you want to do is play, and you are entitled to do so. No retailer would be committing an offence in selling to you. Purchasing is not an offence JustCos is dodgy, but that’s their problem, and it’s a major stretch to say that the retailer would get caught and bring you into a conspiracy charge. Personally it’s a waste of £20 of your money to pay for JustCos in order to buy something that you can legally buy Do a Google search for airsoft guns to find more UK retailers, choose your weapon and try to check out. I’m not going to tell anyone what one, but (the last time I looked) one retailer has a tick box where most others would have a box for you to type in a UKARA number etc

All of the following assumes that you are over the age of 18 1) You won’t be breaking the law as a RIF purchaser as your intent is to play ‘airsoft skirmishing as an insured site’ 2) JustCOS is a made up scheme. It costs you money to sign up, and it claims to provide liability insurance to Cosplayers Liability for what? Their site does not go into detail or provide copies of the policy The retailer that offered JustCos aligns/aligned with a Comicon who’s Cosplay rules forbid RIFs Cosplay is not a legitimate defence under the VCRA. However ‘professional cosplayers’ are more likely to qualify under the VCRAs theatrical defence - they get paid to turn up to comicons, and (to the best of my knowledge are a business or society carrying liability insurance, which has to be shown to the organisers*) An airsofter that cosplays can legally use their RIF for a costume, but won’t comply with comicon entry rules 3) A retailer that sells under JustCos is commiting an offence under the VCRA … UNLESS the buyer is a legitimate ‘theatrical’ cosplayer in which case they don’t need JustCos 4) An airsofter who buys JustCos to buy a RIF is commiting fraud, and potentially are conspiring with the retailer However, ultimately nobody in any power cares - until a situation occurs But members of the airsoft community care that the situation could backfire on airsoft. To date the ‘situations’ that have occurred have not been dealt with as a VCRA offence JustCos has existed for years, some retailers have been doing dodgy ‘defences’ - which is their problem if they ever get pulled and gave to produce the documentation to validate RIF sales Theres actually a different retailer in the UK that provides a tick box when you purchase - the buyer just declares that they intend to play airsoft skirmishing at an insured site. No fraud (unless the buyer lies) Complies with the wording of the law It’s the retailers problem if they are ever held to account and need to justify due diligence on their side * a while back a cosplayer came on here asking how they could buy a particular pistol as a RIF. Primarily the answer was that they can’t under cosplay status But I eventually put 2&2 together linking their posts to an celebrity impersonation / entertainer ….. they are a business, do professional appearances etc and have all the relevant business & liabilty insurance - they were able to just buy under the theatrical defence

For a bit of run around laser tag fun they are very good, and can be used independently or with an an app and Bluetooth - then you get to keep scores (as long as the Bluetooth keeps connected) Southampton University Paintball & Airsoft university used laser tag fir some freshers experience days … Tournament style isn’t my thing, but for a few years I became a series photographer as a result of supporting some buddies ‘once’ which turned into ‘regularly’, and at the freshers day photographed above I was due to play my first competitive tournament so between sessions I was out in the inflatables with last minute practice. I wouldn’t want to encourage someone into becoming ‘one of those’ types of speedsofter - but I would always recommend having a go, bring the best parts of all mindsets into your game
