I think it comes down to the whether the item could be classed as "lethal" through measuring the physics, that is, capable of causing death, not serious injury.

Ingenious - How much stress testing have you done, (I notice you commented it on the strength)? That after market (as i am sure you know, not gopro branded) harness was most likely designed for a GoPro's weigh at around 150-200grams, a kitted and loaded p90, 2.2kg to over 3kg... I'll give this a go if I ever get a p90.

Part of it might be left over from computer games which normally have a headshot multiplier (because multiple hits are requred) - that said, in airsoft as all body parts are equal, there is no reason not to aim for the easiest/largest target - unless all you can see is their head. This is only sensible, though shouting is a bit unnecessary.

I initially got the gloves for the BBs, but now I mainly wear the gloves for the environment - but not having BBs draw blood is a big bonus. The only two under 5m hits i've taken to the hands hurt a lot, but left no marks.

This is not the same thing, this is people who "want GUN", rather than "want GUN:[make/model/condition]".
