Hello,
I have not been around since 2016.

I recently moved back to where I used to play airsoft, so want to try it out again, my UKARA expired in 2016. I have emailed the site I used to play at but they have not got back to me.
Will I have to play the 3 rental games again?

I have done a little bit of research, seems like the `Double Eagle M908B` is the new go to starter gun? It was a g&g combat machine when I used to play.
Will I be somewhat competitive with a cheapo gun like that, (50-60m with .28s)?

Also can anyone recommend me a lightweight cheap chest rig, I've found this https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/8fields-tactical-compact-multi-mission-chest-harness?fv=11580 but can anyone recommend me something else. I just want to hold 2 extra mags that's all.

Also, have any new sites popped up around Essex/London? Can anyone recommend a good CQB site?

Thanks for reading, and I'm excited to be back.

Welcome back

Yeah I think many here would say the M908B is a good starter.  You can also consider CYMA and Specna. (Many threads talking about this subject)

There's LOADS of choice for chest rigs and pouches.  Look at ebay and army surplus to get the cheapest stuff.  It can take a few tries to get something you like as needs change.

Check out here for sites near you: https://playairsoft.uk/map

This was recommended to me by several members on here.  It's a nice bit of kit and apparently very hard wearing.  https://www.flecktarn.co.uk/odtmb2nx.html

My lad has an 8 Fields plate carrier that he's had since the year you stopped playing.  For about £20 it's still going very strong.

Very happy DE M906C and M904G user here, great value guns!

I would say I can get through 4 high-cap Lonex flash mags in a game (so I've just bought an extra one), but I am a spammy full auto player out in the woods, so if you're only semi-auto in CQB, two mags should do ya.

A battle belt with a harness gives you the extra option of carrying a holstered pistol on your hip as God intended, so don't rule them out

@RostokMcSpoons
Oh yes spamming is a lot of fun (you should call it `suppressive fire`, that sounds more serious haha), I always preferred the sneaky flanky style and the battle rattle of 4 hicaps would almost certainly give me away haha! I think 400ish bb's is enough for me.

Would you say those DE replicas are good enough range/accuracy wise out of the box? That's really what I am mainly concerned with, having a fancy replica is nice but if it doesnt shoot straight its no fun. The best replica I ever owned was an ICS g33 it shot so straight! It was much better than far more expensive stuff I owned.

@Tactical Pith Helmet
Thanks thats exactly what I am after!

Welcome back to the sport; I’m sure a lot has changed since you left, but there’s a lot still the same too.
depends where abouts you are in Essex, but Airsoft Plantation in Billericay is usually a good day out.

Welcome to the respawn point!

Please don't take this the personally but after 7+ years, your old site has to act in the interests of its business and the wider airsoft community so they may question your intentions if you want to fast-track your renewal when you haven't played recently.

Actually, yes to both. RIFT Airsoft launched a new CQB site (in the last 3 months) called the Battery near Great Dunmow. I can recommend it from experience having played at the site and seen it evolve through players' feedback.

Hello, Thanks for the recommendation. I have been to Billericay Skirmish but never Airsoft Plantation, I will have to try it

It's about a 3.5" group at 18m. (just realised I'm mixing my scales ridiculously, but that's what I've measured), I did upgrade the bucking and nub (see my own DE 906 thread), but I don't think I saw much difference from stock, tbh.

And it hits out to at least 50m, and will run 0.32s.  I seem to outrange a lot of other players (but then maybe they're just rentals with badly hopped guns, so not necessarily the best evidence).

I've never been disappointed with my DE.  Well, until the fire control unit started playing silly buggers.  Maybe the 11.1v spamming was too much for it after many thousands of shots.  Bought a used replacement for £15 quid.

Fair enough, that does make sense. I don't mind playing rental games again anyway.

Oh nice! They don't have any pictures on their site so I can't get a feel for it. I might attend their next vent on the 27th, thanks for the recommendation.

I think the website's down at the moment but the company and site have pages on the Zuck social media page.

Welcome back. The G&G combat machines have lost their spot as the go to entry level gun as they've priced themselves out of that market. Why would you pay over £200 for a gun when you can get one that's just as good for almost half that?

If you're looking for a CQB site in Essex then try CAMO CQB in Canvey island. It's quite a small site but is well run

Ownership won't change hands until 2025 so there's another year left at the site.

Yo welcome back

That rig will probably work fine. I've had this since 2018 and have been using it every now and then https://www.bespokeairsoft.co.uk/big-foot-d3crm-chest-rig-vest-with-three-magazine-pouch-black

I also do have the M904g you are looking at and it's in shambles atm because of modding. The internals are slightly offspec from the usual m4 stuff so i've been having a nightmare trying to get a perun to work in it. The hop is somewhat propietary from being different in size and position. Also broken a few things in the gearbox from trying to increase power. Basically, it works decent but only if you don't plan on touching it inside.

G&G combat machines are still great starter guns to this day, and still made better than those DE rifles. I have the raider 2.0 and I still think that's a better rifle. Honestly, anything 10 years ago is still great today, it's all about slinging pellets to a range afterall.

The new cyma platinum series have been greatly received too, though i'd not tried one so can't validate that. But you know cyma, still rock solid mid tier as per usual.

There have also been a surge of copy-and-paste companies that just make budget M4s, as if we don't have an abundance of them already. I'd just say avoid all them them.
