PopRocket123
I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to true custom builds. I'm talking conversions, builds that required modifying or making parts to work and complete custom guns. No M4s that you swapped the handguard on. These are my own guns and my dad's. You'll notice there are more unfinished than complete guns but we're working on it. Well L96 with a mancraft kit for and flectarn paint job. DSG M4 pistol built almost entirely for l from spare parts. This puts out around 45rps at 300fps and has about a 2m grouping at 40m. AK bullpup. This was made using a shitty SRC RPK picked up bone yard for £10. The forend was put together from an M4 and AK rail cut up and fixed with a piece of bent aluminium, the grip was carved from plywood and the butt was more bent aluminium. The trigger uses a BTC Chimera with a remote microswitch trigger. DMR based on the Canadian Colt C8CT. This uses a G&P base and has a 3D printed adapter to fit a modified RS Magpul stock. The rail riser has also been machined to be closer to the real version. Now we get on the the unfinished ones. M4 bullpup kit. This was another SRC base with what was going to be and printed kit and G36 rail. The plan was also to use a custom gearbox design. Work stopped on it and I have since lost the files. Maybe I'll revisit this although it seems a bit pointless now SRU has released theirs. HK 21 PDW using a TM base with the Classic Army metal receiver. This is getting cut down to match RS inspiration and it's getting a 3D printed feed tray, forend and stock and a scratch built box mag. SCAR H DMR. This uses a VFC base although pretty much all of the internals are being replaced. Externally it's getting a 3D printed M-LOK rail based on the MI rail and a printed M4 stock adapter so is still has battery space in the stock and can use M4 stock adapters. It's also getting a few other 3D printed details like the replacement gas plug, selector blank and possibly charging handle. All the parts have been printed it's just waiting to have them fitted. Most of you have probably seen the airsoft bow by now. This uses the draw of the bow to push a piston which feeds back to a feed unit allowing it to have a go up, use MP5K mags and keep the overall length down. It'll be easily capable of doing 500fps so this is technically a sniper. It's been assembled and is waiting for it's first test fire. Probably our most ambitious project is the Peregrine SMG. This is a complete custom build, even the gearbox is our own design. All of the externals are going to be 3D printed with a pair of laser cut steel side plates to improve the stiffness and strength. It's going to have two grip options to take either Ares 9mm mags or Classic Army X9 mags. The idea behind this was to build the smallest possible full power AEG. Guest
Good plan, I love seeing other people’s projects. I have a couple of Vectors I might be inclined to put some detail up about when I get the time.
Supporters Rogerborg Posted August 23, 2020 Supporters Share Posted August 23, 2020 I've got one in progress at the moment, just roughed out so far, with some more structure to add on top before adding twiddly bits, tidy, seal, prime and paint. Supporters SeniorSpaz87 Posted August 24, 2020 Supporters Share Posted August 24, 2020 Talked about it enough for now on other threads, but the DP-28 is coming along. So far a new, stronger buttpad locking mount has been completed, the upper and lower mag adapters have been completed, the feed ramp has been completed, and the stopping block has been completed (maybe. Had some issues with BBs getting in the way of the bullet spokes in the mag, but theres bigger issues still to sort before I make improvements). However BBs are still slipping through somehow. I suppose next is to recreate my follower in CAD as opposed to using the current handmade one. Its the only place where I can see bbs slipping through into the back of them mag with the new follower. In terms of things I might still do, I would like to drill into the upper and mount a pic rail for optics. Unfortunately when loaded the pan mag blocks the irons. Now, as this was always kind of meant to be used in conjunction with a Maska-1 helmet, ADSing isnt really an option so its not a huge deal. But if I used it without the helmet it'd be nice to have optics. I could additionally/instead create a second set of vertical irons like the real DP-28 has, and do away with the canted irons of the ZB30. Also, I was originally planning to make a forward locking block for the pan mag to sit on. I dont need to do that as the mag adapter is plenty solid enough to hold even a full mag in place, but it could help a bit with stability. Ill have to field test it first, which cant happen until after the mag issues are sorted.
Supporters Adolf Hamster Posted August 24, 2020 Supporters Share Posted August 24, 2020 guess it really depends on how you define it. for example changing the hand-guard on an m4 you say doesn't count but what if you made that hand-guard from scratch? i've done a bunch of bits and bobs of tinkering, most of it not particularly glamorous, like turning a barrel spacer to hold the handguard on my jg more securely. the biggest set of "custom" work was me mg42: yes it was easier to list the sales ad rather than type out the stuff i did to it

The things we do for those we love! A scratch built handguard definitely counts.

PopRocket123
My primary AEG that has now been finished. This has been built entirely from hand selected parts, internally and externally. The receiver, gearbox shell, other barrel and buffer tube are G&P, the rail is a cheap AliExpress jobby and the grip, stock and mags are PTS. It's got a very nice and affordable BSA 1-4x short dot and has a folding stock adapter fitted with a 3d printed receiver end plate to make it fit. Internally it has a gate titan, SHS 13:1 gears and airseal components, r hopped ZCI stainless steel inner barrel and a G&P motor with upgraded magnets. It feels really solid all over and accurately shoots .28s out to 60-70m. It's been evolving for the past 3 years as I've used it and figured out what I like and what I dont. It looks very different from when I first built it. I'd say it's finished but we all know that's a lie.
Guest
This has been knocking around in a few incarnations now, it’s more or less this configuration at the moment.. Externally, it’s genuine KRISS Vector .45 SDP gen2(2017) fixed stock upper and lower receivers, real steel pistol buffer tube, a genuine Gearhead Works Tail Hook, attached with a modified genuine Farrow Tech Vector adapter. Lower is internally modified KWA Vector lower components, fitted into the KRISS lower receiver, which itself has been slightly modified to fit the A1A extended mag release. Uppers have a genuine KRISS .45 semi-only fire control group, including genuine generation2 trigger, semi-sear, frame etc, substantially modified to work with the KWA lower internals. It has genuineHB Industries safety selectors, genuine Midwest Industries M-Lok front rails and clone Magpul MBUS Pro iron sights at the moment. Its been a real labour of love, easily my favourite toy gun. Sold it once, regretted it and bought it back about a year later.
Spartan09
well, i havent got an actual build underway, and likely wont do for quite some time due to losing my job today. However i do have a few i have been planning in my head. one was a jaffa staff weapon from Stargate SG1. the most ambitious idea i had was to see if i could convert a GBB AK, with real steel stock etc to create a New Zealand Charlton rifle (an LMG conversion of old Mk. III lee enfields) does anyone have a link to a decent, FREE, CAD design programme?
BigStew
my current project. mainly built from plasticard, currently waiting on some parts and building a holster out of ABS.
Nick G
Ok, so they are 'basically' M4's but L119 A1 and A2 . Both built from scratch , no base gun, lots of engraving and machining and on the A2 building up the streangthening webs etc on the upper. Then there is the fun of finding correct parts ! Working on a short A1 GBBR at the moment. parts have just come back from the machune shop.
