Hi Capa - 4.3/5.1 talk to me

I'm considering a hi capa as my next sidearm and there's a bunch of things confusing me (not difficult to be fair) so I bring myself before the collective wisdom...

Basically I want a 1911 style pistol (ish) so no fancy split slides and stuff but I do want a rail for torches and other such ever so useful frippery. I used to have a TM MEU which I loved but couldn't really use (shitty gas efficiency coupled with fat sausage fingers and a hair trigger that left me with more NDs than actual kills) so a 5.1 appeals to me on the basis of length but only the 4.3 seems to have a railed frame. On that note, is the little screw on rail that comes with the 5.1 actually any good or will my torches forever be wonky?

Other than that I may one day decide that a fancy alloy slide is a better use of £300 odd than say...food, so the ability to upgrade would be nice - does a 4.3 limit that choice?

Any other super helpful advice would be appreciated (along with sarcasm, wit and other derogatory remarks about fat fingers).

The 5.1 gold match has a framed rail instead of screw and has the non dropping barrel so unless you hate gold it's probably the best fit.

My DOR is hole punch and screws for the rail. I clean my pistol pretty regularly so I just nip them up at the same time. I really need to get some thread lock on them. The rail does loosen if I don't do this so while I haven't had an issue I stay on top of it.

Eliteshooting doesn't seem to stock 4.3 slides but does stock the internal components (I think they are just the same other than barrels.) So I'd say it might be harder to get a slide for them but I have seen custom 4.3s so it's not like they don't exist.

Also if you really hate gold maybe you can just buy the GM frame ? http://www.eliteshootingcentre.co.uk/Gas Guns/Gas Pistol Parts/Items/railed frames.htm I'd always ask Mike before buying something to make sure it would work as expected.

Yeah, really not a fan of the GM. Good call on the GM frame on a standard 5.1 though. Could well be an option.

I own 2 TM 4.3's & a kjw 5.1, all kept stock, as I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", if I had to choose, I'd say go for the TM 4.3, overall build quality/hop etc is pretty much perfect, the kjw while all metal, is a little "rattly", hops not the best & not do snappy in use.

So if you want a donor to throw upgrades at or butcher, go kjw, but if you want a top performer straight out of the box, go TM .

Oops, forgot the third option, if you want a shit paperweight, get the WE (got one of those too😭)

Definitely going TM 5.1. I have the HK45 for railed mounted fun so I reckon the Government model will be fine. I also found the Tanio Koba pachmeyer style grips for it!

@Lozart Any particular reason your not choosing the DOR?

I was thinking of picking one up this week as also have decided a hi Capa is for me...

Other than limited options for upgrades, I'm not fussed about the whole optics on handguns thing. This will be a skirmish pistol, not a race gun!

Although they are on special at esc...

The limited options might be a blessing so you don't tinker and it still runs good. Also quote from ESC "An excellent skirmishing pistol."

Co2 is a decent option for a 1911.

Just fiddled with this milbro one (KWC to make it look more like the one arnie takes from the biker in T2.

photo doesn't appear to be loading due to Birminghams shitty Internet.

TM DOR for 100 quid at ESC. Its cheap and has better gas efficiency then the other hicappas.

If you really want a 1911 style though, Army Armament make extended 1911 gas magazines which look ok. Get a few of them, replace the O rings and other rubbers bits in them and you should be golden.
