Super64 got a reaction from UK-Recce in TM MWS alternatives - is there anything else worth considering?
As someone who’s owned a few different manufacturers GBB M4’s at one time or another over the years, for me Tokyo Marui is the one to go for. I’m very similar to you in that mine are collection pieces, with a few rounds put through them every now and again. Therefore, looks and feel are more important than performance and Tokyo Marui cannot be beaten. The Cerakote finish is spot on and it just feels right. Both weight and quality are top notch. Also, the performance is better than most. There’s also plenty of upgrades available. Personally I’d leave the internals alone, other than an Angry Gun heavy buffer and HAO steel bolt end to increase the felt recoil if you want more recoil. If it’s only going to be lightly used, the extra pressure from the heavy buffer and bolt end shouldn’t cause to much of a problem. I’ve had no problems with any of mine so far, (touch wood). There’s loads of external options as well. Rail upgrades and the like. As far as other manufacturers go:

WE - Decent enough products, cheaper than TM, but if you want trademarks you’ll either have to buy from Asia and hope there’s no issues with customs, or buy a trademarked lower receiver and switch the blank lower out.

VFC - Difficult to get hold of a VFC M4A1 these days although MK18’s, XM177’s and the 733 are available. But, it just doesn’t feel as nice as the TM. I love VFC stuff and their internal build quality is much better than it was, but I prefer a TM.

GHK - If it’s a standard M4A1 you’re after, you’ll end up with one with Navy SEAL markings on the receiver instead of Colt trademarks. They now do the URG-I version and the MK18 which both have Colt trades, but, by all accounts, GHK’s quality control isn’t as good as it was.

Golden Eagle - I’ve not had any experience with. I think they may have plastic receivers. I may be wrong, but I think that’s the case. Also, I don’t think they have trademarks.

Double Eagle - I’ve got the Noveske N4 and it is nice. Comes with TM style internals. But, I don’t think they do an M4A1 and I’ve not had a good enough look over it to judge the quality of the internals. The externals look great though.

For me, personally, if I’m planning a build, I’ll go for a TM if I know the parts I need are available. If you’re after a GBB that feels great out of the box, that you can just unbox and manipulate and be happy with, but also upgrade if you want, I think you can’t go wrong with the TM. (And no, I don’t work for TM. 😉)

I think in future 24hr is out of the question. I’ve used it a couple of times, but the vast majority has been 48hr, so I’ll stick with that.

The removal of enhanced compensation is more concerning. Being in the North East, collection only seriously reduces my customer base as most buyers tend to be further south. As far as couriers go, Parcel Force are the most reliable and the only one seemingly willing to transport airsoft guns from private sellers. So I guess I’ll have to stick with them and hope for the best. So far, I’ve had no issues with them, so fingers crossed. I guess if there’s an issue, I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Super64 got a reaction from Rogerborg in Shipping rif options
I’ve not had to claim for a lost rif yet, fingers crossed. But, they specifically state they are willing to carry RIF’s as long as they are taken to the post office and the staff are informed of what it is. Also, they should be sent via the 48hr service, although a few times the staff have recommended sending it via 24hr. The biggest hassle is explaining to the counter staff what an airsoft gun is. I usually say it’s similar to paintball. And when they ask the value, I’m always honest and pay the extra for the insurance cover. I have had an issue this week with a rif that was sent out via 24hr service on Monday, but didn’t arrive until today. So I’m potentially going to put a claim in for that.

As far as Parcel Force not paying out on a claim for anything gun shaped, I can’t really comment. It’s definitely something worth looking into more. Is that confirmed or just hearsay?

I always use Parcel Force, mostly the 48hr service and they’ve always provided insurance up to the value of every gun I’ve sent. The most expensive was around the £800-£900 mark. Not sure if they insure stuff valued over £1000, but I don’t see why not. So far, Parcel Force have always delivered, usually within the 48hrs, sometimes quicker, and I’ve had no issues with items getting damaged or lost. I’ve never used DPD or any other courier to post RIF’s, so can’t comment on how willing they are to carry airsoft guns from private sellers, but I know some of the stores use them as well as UPS.

I’ve not got a PTS Griffin suppressor, but I have been interested in getting one. All the sights I’ve been looking at say that it’s compatible with the TM A2 flash hider, so as long as it’s the flash hider that came with the gun, you should be fine.

I’m sure the insurance company would have something to say about a dog being in the game zone and the potential for someone to be bitten. I doubt it’s mentioned in the policy.

It’s one thing for the dog to be in the safe zone, but in the playing area, with the potential for it to get hurt is just stupid and negligent. As mentioned above, we all go knowing we’ll get hit and it’s going to hurt. The dog, on the other hand, has no idea. I’m guessing we’re not talking about some well trained land shark here.

Bloody typical. I’ve been mulling over the idea of buying one of these ever since I saw them for sale on High Pressure Airsoft. No where else had them and so I debated backwards and forwards and eventually decided to take the plunge and got one around 2 weeks ago. It appears it was the last one they had in tan, because after I bought it the tan was showing out of stock. I felt pretty good about it, glad I hadn’t missed out. I felt even better about it when it arrived as it’s gorgeous looking and feels really good in the hand. Of course, that good feeling has reduced a bit when I see Defcon now has them in stock, £200 cheaper than what I paid at High Pressure Airsoft. More annoying is I was intending to wait until payday on 15th, but being an impatient sod, I didn’t wait. Could have saved myself £200 if I’d been less impatient.

Oh well. The joys of our hobby I guess 😏

Super64 got a reaction from TheFull9 in Possible New VFC Products
It’s really nice, with good strong recoil. I’ve had a few A1’s and A3’s over the years, but always ended up selling them. I’m intending to keep this one and just finished putting my M203 on it. Just waiting for my trademarked lower coming from KYAirsoft and then it’s all done.

As far as GBB M16’s go, for me, WE is the only real option.  I think the Golden Eagle one is plastic and the only other option is to build one if you can find all the relevant parts. So if VFC are going to release a range of GBB M16’s, there’s definitely a gap in the market for them.

There’s a clearer photo of them from VFC’s Facebook page today. Still can’t tell if they’re gas or not, but I’ve asked the question and waiting for someone to reply.

The A2 style carry handle upper is the one hole in the GBB AR market. As a collector and an AR fan, there’s a gap in my collection that I would like to fill relating to early GWOT builds. Especially the M16/M203 combo.

Off the top of my head, there’s 3 guns I’d really like at the moment, obviously GBB’s:

    VFC MP5SD
    VFC M110K1
A GBB M16 or M4 with the A2 solid carry handle.

    Edit

Also a full weight GBB M249. The feel of the VFC version is just wrong.

Unless all of the accessories are genuine, real steel items, genuine Peqs and Eotech’s etc, which they clearly aren’t, there is nothing here to justify £1000, never mind £5000. I wonder if he meant £500 and added an extra 0 by mistake.

"Modified Honey Badgers" in what way? Just slapped on a PEQ box (are they laser & LED, LED only or battery box?), a hand grip and a 552 RDS to be "tacticool" or in addition to the previous ergonomic mods, a comprehensive list of internal upgrades were made to give some semblance of justification for the price?

"Canadian Colt M4 with scope, modified...450fps" Modified to make it a hot AEG that a buyer would have to go to further expense and/or effort to make it legal or modified to safe or semi-auto only for a DMR?

I won't understand those who want to charge what looks like a huge markup worth but they won't be clear about what they're selling and itemise the "modified" bits to inspire any confidence.  At face value, £2500 would be generous, never mind £5000.
