Showing my age but . . . . . A LS M655 kit (basically a M16A2 fixed stock carbine) around 1984, cost £25. All ABS plastic, glue and screw together, spring cocking, no hop, prob 180fps tops! Bought from my local model shop when I was 14 and "RIF" and 2 tone wasn't even thought of!
First proper gun was a TM MP5K PDW around 1990.

There are a couple of grub screws which may need tightening where the barrel slots into the upper receiver, you should be able to sort them using an allen key if you pop the front handguards off. That model has a 2part hop unit so if you need to split the upper from the lower you may need to push the upper part of the hop unit forward via the ejection port while carefully pulling the back of the upper receiver upward taking GREAT care not to damage the lugs that locate with the rear receiver pin and also locate into the cutaways in the gearbox. Once these lugs are clear of the lower and the gearbox it should be possible to prise the lugs outward slightly to slide the upper forward off the lower. It's a hamfisted method which is harder to explain than do tbh!

No, it started life as a standard M4A1. I bought it from a mate 10 years later and started mutating shortly after. Pretty much the only original parts are the gearbox shell, buffer tube, trigger and front sight!

OK replaced the outer barrel with a single piece unit, the old one was in two parts, the bit that fixed in to the receiver was seperate from the actual barrel which was just secured with a couple of Grub Screws. This one is a solid unit. No wobble.

Also a new metal receiver. heavier than the polymer one but reassuringly solid.

I'm still a stalwart fan of NiMh because they're cheap as chips and I like what I know.

Any 8.4v NiMh battery pack of the right size will pretty much be as good as any other in my experience, so if you do go that way, just visit component-shop and get some from there.

If you want to go LiPo (which I'd recommend because it's the future and I just refuse to catch up), then I have no further guidance for you.

Lots of good motors out there, the SHS standard motors are pretty good and cheap, same with the ZCI motors (these are slightly cheaper). If you want to go for something a little more upmarket then Lonex do a good range. But before you start shelling out definately worth trying to find out what the actual problem is first.

    What spring is this pulling?

Also have you tried inserting a long screwdriver into the nozzle and pushing to see if the actual piston goes all the way back? Just another thing you can do before you crack it open...

What battery are you using Moose? Is it fully charged etc. I know sounds like a stupid question but it's the first thing to rule out. If there's not enough power the gears won't be able to pull the spring back.

Interesting point sitting duck and I agree with you about new guys being too vocal. In this case I was just sharing the great results I've had with a hop up unit . But I suspect because I'm new on there the Mods don't have much time for me or my experiences. Such a shame

Just thinking... Basically, as part of a team, I noticed a lot of people getting really excessively serious about the game. I also noticed, almost all the kit I carried... That everyone carried was pointless... People would fire only 2k rounds a day... But insist on carrying 8 hi cap mags, etc...

So first off I got to thinking "I don't need all this crap" and dumping my chest rig. Then I noticed that I don't even really need my rifle... My pistol does just fine, and it's far more of a challenge... And it's fun. And also that camo was mainly pointless as not one person on a field of 130 used it properly and we're all at such small ranges...

This trail of thought mainly had me thinking... Why not have some fun! The whole game is playing soldier and fantasy.

So... 30 minutes of Google later... I ordered some eva foam and I'm going to make some silly armour, hpa my pistol and go nuts.

Has anyone else had similar ponderings? And if so... What was it?

    Army of two?
    Some form of Cod?
    Random mixing?

Feeding issues sounds like your mag and the hop feed tube are not exactly in line, so that the BBs are feeding at a slight angle and getting stuck. Alternatively it could be your mag spring isn't pushing the BBs hard enough.

Unless you are going to use the M4 as a semi only DMR there are very few sites that will let you shoot full auto above 370 FPS, so any BB weight above 0.3 will be a waste of money. For around the 350 mark 0.25s are plenty heavy enough.

    Hi man,

    thanks for that... very informative

also since the UK is very windy could I get 50m on windy days and about 70m on non windy days, once i finish upgrading everything? Yes it has a delayer chip installed.

A problem I found was that my bbs have to be pushed into the hop unit, it gets stuck before it can enter the hop unit correctly and if i push it with a rod it will work. Any thoughts?

What bbs do you personally use for .36g?

Thanks Finius, I think I've said all I need to say, namely I took a chance and lost out, and to try to make others aware that gifting PayPal isn't a good idea unless you know the person involved. Had it been a £200 AEG then obviously I wouldn't have done it. I was aware of the PayPal related posts you mention and don't in any way suggest there's any fault on the part of AF-UK, it was purely down to me. I just wouldn't want anyone else to lose out to this guy that's all. I lost the price of a few beers, its annoying but I have learned from my mistake.

Would you deal with the trader again (Yes / No): NO WAY!

Any other comments: He advertised an as new SHS motor on here, said still available when I PM'd him so agreed price £20, sent my paypal gifted, as it was a relatively small amount, which I sent 4th July, he confirmed received same day, said would post next day "hopefully". So far so good. I then contacted him on 10th by PM to check progress and he said (quote) "yeh buddy got it posted on tuesday (8th) matey, i know that royal mail are seriously slow sending from n.ireland. sorry buddy."

I'm pretty sure they ain't this slow. The motor has never arrived.

Contacted him via PM and his gmail addy on 23rd to ask if he had proof of posting or tracking and could chase Post Office. No motor or reply received from either as of today (31st).

Therefore it appears that at best the PO have lost it and he doesn't care, or at worst he's taken the cash and never posted it. Either way I'm out of pocket. YES I WAS STUPID to gift payment as it gives very little protection, however I will still notify Paypal of this once 28 days from posting are up. I trusted the guy having never had a problem with fellow 'softers, clearly this was misplaced and I won't make the mistake again.

I would clearly advise against dealing with this guy. If he resolves the issue or the motor turns up via Brazil or somewhere I WILL put a message up in this thread.

If a TM isn't working as it should you should stick to pressing for a full refund, certainly not paying for a fix. Bear in mind they have now admitted the hop was not right ie admitted the goods were faulty so they shouldn't quibble. They have a big reputation for customer service too.

straffham got a reaction from ItsAJ in Can you put a smaller mount onto a bigger rail?
Yes. The diameter (ie width) of the scope body is the size of ring mounts you will need, to fit on a Weaver / Piccatiny 20mm rail. 1 inch is the most common scope diameter iirc.

straffham got a reaction from two_zero in Can you put a smaller mount onto a bigger rail?
You need to measure the diameter of the scope body, very often it will be 1 inch but they can differ, and get mounts to suit the diameter, mounts this size are fairly widely available from airsoft stockists to fit 20mm rails, they're also called Weaver rails, typically around £15 you can also get them from any decent gun shop. You'd also need to consider whether you need high or low mounts to suit your eye relief.

straffham reacted to Sitting Duck in CO2 Blowback reduction
Well yesterday I did a little "tweaking" or grind/file away a bit....

I can afford to do this as it was a cheap $hitty CO2, and if I balls it
then I got spares & extra mag for the other same CO2 pistol

Looks a little rough but she is firing now at 330 - 340fps
I cut, and filed down a round groove in the hammer
there is now a semi circle groove aprox 2.5mm deep
1mm deep seemed to do nothing 425+
    2mm deep started to drop a little - 385
2.5mm gets me to 340 ish - seen 355 once but most is 325 to 345

the pin/valve is not getting pushed so far in and so is not releasing so much burst

Will take some pics to show what I mean - but it is a BODGE FFS

Could of tried washers around valve but had trouble holding these in place
got the hump and thought - wtf lets grind the 8itch and finish with a small
circular/round file - like a half pipe guttering channel but is in line with pin

I do NOT suggest anybody does this on a nice decent pistol

This was a cheapo nasty £30 CO2 pistol (actually £27 delivered)
If I killed it by taking too much off and left with 100fps - $hit happens
at least I get a spare mag etc for other pistol

I strongly do not say this is a good way to do it
but now at least I should be able to use it as a backup/secondary

once it starts to drop a tiny bit - there is a very small margin
reckon it was about 0.5mm once she started to lose a tiny bit
so with that in mind you have gotta go very very carefully

As long as she stays about 300 - that will do me
still got other one - so will be intertesting to see
new mag & co2 cart in both - how many shots etc....

hoping to stay above 300-320fps and mag maybe 150 would be nice

OK - bit of an update......

fitted brand new ASG co2 cart and started testing this morning.....
got up to about 90 shots - mag holds 19 plus the odd dry fire when empty
it was early (6:30am and neighbours seemed to be getting pi$$ed)
so left it at 90 shots.....

Recently dry fired the rest inside up to about 200 shot mark
    then chrono a few bb's @ 260
back inside & dry fired up to 250 shots & she was at 90fps
275/280 & she was out of gas

So yeah looks like it might have sort of done what I needed it to:

    320fps & mag good for 150 maybe 180 bb's - that is getting on for 8 or 9 mags
think I will forget looking for a cyma electric pistol, see how this works out in a month or two
might do the other one but will wait a little while first
think next time I reckon using a small square file to get a nice recessed flat area striking the valve
the round one might look neat or even a bit realistic but smooth square flat surface to me might
provide a more accurate consistent strike on valve than maybe the round halfpipe shape

pistol - alas out of stock now

    http://www.onlybbguns.co.uk/gg-105-co2-gg-105-co2.html?filter_name=HFC%20105

10% off voucher think was RC10 = £27 and free del on everything

like I said £27 - jeez a mag & del would cost a fair bit of that so bought a few
but they was hitting 400-450, now I might be able to use it

Other places do sell these cheapo pistols but not as cheap & delivered
but this bodge - and that is what it is ffs may just allow some cheapo guns to be used

PLEASE do not do this to any half decent pistol - get it done PROPERLY !!!!
if anyone wants to try this crap please remember:

EVERY GUN WILL BE DIFFERENT !!!!!

Another one - my other pistol may only need 1mm or 1.5mm shaved off
if I just dive in and take too much off too quickly it may drop to 100fps
I had got a rough idea with washers over valve stopping trigger hitting fully home
so I knew not to go too mad with dremel & files

Go very very slowly and gradually bit by bit - needless to say:

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU SCREWING UP YOUR £125 CO2 PISTOL
(I am not very responsible or mature at all for that matter)

Only attempt this if you have a crappy cheapo gun, and a little common sense
and decent stuff - not your mum's nail file ffs
and can afford to lose the gun if YOU screw up going too mad
it may not work for all or other pistols so it is down to owner/user to decide

Not sure - DON'T DO IT, if not ready fine wait a while and will update if bodge still works ok

soz for long waffle - but I ain't gonna buy anybody a new gun if it goes pear shape on ya

ItsAJ - deffo spend £15 on the shop proper mod, my crappy gun is a non blowback 1911
yours is deffo worth £15 spent on it and can be reversed no doubt - my bodge not really
