i contacted kestrel today about the rate of fire control with their etu unit.

there an adjustment on the back of the brushless motor to reduce the rpm to half, the 39k does 33k on 7.4v halved to 16.5k.

what i asked is does there mosfet etu just control the adjustment or digitally cycle the gun as well, giving another way to lower the cyclic rate of fire.

anyone have any idea if this is correct, please?

Rate of fire control on a Mosfet just adds a delay into the cycle time, it doesn't affect the speed of the motor.

    can you explain please?

and i have asked for gear advice, not much help going on....

i have 90 days free return on stuff and months till i go again, what do you advise please?

He means that it's all going to run very quickly and likely suffer from pre-engagement resulting in the gearbox shitting itself quite rapidly.

What are you hoping to achieve? What is your desired end result? Also - how much experience do you have with working on AEG gearboxes?

    hello's again,

after a day of trying to force myself to spend money on stuff, i finally did.

im going to keep the original,

                                                     470mm 6.02 inner brass barrel.

                                                     bell high performance piston head.

                                                     cylinder and cylinder head.

                                                     gearbox casing.

the piston head is the same as a Maxx high performance and i assume the rest are the same.

    i have brought,

13:1 BJX gears, shs delayer chips, sealed bearing, shims and some teflon grease.

                                         39k Brushless motor.

Maxx Alloy hop-up with built in tracer , Prometheus bucking and nub.

                                         Kestrel v2 with wifi.

                                         shs tappit plate.

                                         alloy piston body.

                                         lots of springs m90-120.

                                         o-ring silicone grease.

and a cleaning and unjamming rod kit.

all the stuff and the base gun have come to about £400.

i know i could have got a new gun but will all these parts, i can upgrade any V2 i decide to get later.

the new gears hopefully have the different timing chip placement.

the hop up was really hard to purchase as it was full price 😭

the tappit plate in the gun looks worn already.

can the kestrel work with the ported lightened gear set please?

anyone know how easy it would be to wire the tracer up please?

will it plug on to or be soldered to the Kestrel? or do i have to do some crazy wiring please?

i will be thinking about an inner barrel at some point, but is it worth it please?

It looks like the BJX gears you've bought are for a gel blaster, not an airsoft gun.

    Alloy piston is a mistake.

The Maxx hop unit tracer connects to the motor terminals for the tracer. If you do that it may well cause an issue with the mosfet and will almost definitely cause an issue with a brushless motor.

Ahhhh shame that, it was a good site back in the day but sadly things like FB groups and other sites just killed it off at the end of the day. People forget that these sites ain’t free to run so donations are needed to keep it going. Same as this site I guess.

You're absolutely right about the evolution of how people consume their info but with more and more social media platforms cracking down on firearms and replicas it'll be interesting to see how things develop. Personally, I really like the forum format and I would hope we'd see a swing back to that but I'm not sure that generations raised on social media will want that.

I have already bought one about 9 months ago and am thinking of getting another. When I got it, I did some small upgrades (thanks to you guys) that improved the range and accuracy, but kept the stock spring so my son could cock it.

What's happened now is that both my son and daughter love using it so I don't get a look in! I also really enjoy using it and as it's on the 1J limit we don't have a minimum engagement distance, this means I don't have to worry about my kids accidently shooting someone at close range.

So, with this in mind I'm thinking or buying another one and upgrading to a higher specification, maybe 2J. This would be MY rifle! :) I'm struggling a bit with spending £230 in a rifle and then spending £200+ on upgrading by replacing the new parts. I'm happy to invest and do the work but don't want to throw money away.

Question is, should I be looking at a cheaper platform than the TM to start with if I'm going to end up throwing a load of parts away?

I love the look of the VSR10 G spec with the silencer, its a really nice looking weapon!.....

If you're planning to gut it and slap a bunch of spangly bits in to raise the FPS then I'd say get a Cyma 701b and buy the upgrades you want. If you really want a shorter barrel and suppressor to get the same look as a G spec then there's plenty of parts out there to replicate that.

I want it, didn’t say it was a good idea 😂

But I know what you are saying

Don't get me wrong, I want one and if it comes with the reciprocating barrel then happy days!

I clicked the “let me know when it’s in stock” link and I got taken to Reddit, there’s chat there from Taiwan Gun who are apparently in bed with the manufacturers over this, most of the posts are asking for to be made WITHOUT the reciprocating action!

Like WHY would you not want that! 😫

Because it would be horrifically complicated and likely to break? Yes it would be great but would you rather have a functioning gun or a broken wall hanger?

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A COMPATIBLE SPRING FOR MY SA10? I've tried Patrol base similar sites and  and all I get are suggestions for different makes OR spring powered sniper rifles! As I'm new to working on the internals I want to get it right. I hastily bought an m100 spring from eBay but it's massive and it didn't mention if it was compatible!

Why do you say it's massive? If it's longer than the original spring, that's not unusual! Aftermarket springs are quite often longer than the original ones - this is not a problem.

yeah I can see me ending up down the sniping route. I’ve always loved the idea of a sniper.

Everyone loves the idea of it until they actually try it.

Fun parallels with MTBs - I used to be a pretty keen MTBer until I developed "downhill specific geometry" if you see what I mean. Now, when I started doing it vaguely regularly I picked a decent starter bike at the time (a KHS if I recall). Nothing fancy, Shimano STX groupset, butted steel frame etc. By about 6 months in it had titanium skewers, V brakes, a mix of XT and LX parts and a new triple butted frame that weighed less than my right nut. Did it need it? Not really. Did it make me a better rider? God, no. Was it unnecessarily expensive? Absolutely. Just like airsoft.

I still wear my old Endura Humvee top for airsoft when it gets really warm!

Edit quote - @Lozart"I have the same type of holster, the one piece of advice I would give is that while it has been generally good, just make sure that your Surefire clone fits the rail on your pistol properly. Last couple of times out using my TM M9A1 the torch has separated from the pistol rail and the pistol has come out of the holster while I was running. Currently looking at resurrecting my old Safariland clone for that one."

After what happened at my last game I wonder a little if that might be a TM M9A1 issue specifically, the rail on that frame doesn't quite look like proper spec picatinny to me.

My X300U came with a screw fitting to permanently attach it, might give that a try first.

For my Hi-Capa, I use a Deadly Customs Surefire retention holster so that holds on to the Surefire X300 torch and its clones. I attach it to a QLS adapter whose receiver plate goes on my mid-ride mount and leg strap.

How do you find the retention?

Is the passive retention enough or do you feel active retention ie strap/ hood or button release would make it more secure?

This is what really gets me about airsoft manufacturers. Anyone who buys a 1st gen gun is essentially paying hundreds of pounds just to be a glorified beta tester

Yes and no. Some companies do this, most just release a shit product and when the customers complain they shrug their shoulders and say "meh, got your money now, don't care".

whats wrong with EPM1s? They work well in my other rifs

I've not heard good things about them but to be fair, I may be working with out of date info. I believe they were improved at some point.
