The best tactical AK74 out there?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Gargamel's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Special model version, which has a smaller production run than your regular AK74 Variants. All LCT NV guns come with this gearbox: I've already said my thoughts on it,but recap- Weak piston and motor, decent gears and nice bushings(Not super strong but well made and mesh well),very good air seal parts, hop up units can be dodgy(like Ian's experience) Gearbox shell is probably the prettiest and one of the best cast ones I've seen Do note newest LCT guns come with red pistons which are far stronger than the VFC ones before, but I doubt the ones at FS have them. Pistons are easy to replace anyway,no big deal and the stock one should last to not piss you off, though the poor AOE does concern -
DMR - bushings Vs bearings
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Sitting Duck's topic in General Discussion
Kanzen steel bearings and Modify ceramics are generally the best and strongest bearings out there,or at least the most recommended. Kanzen are slowly getting popular here, enough that I've installed them for a guy I know some time ago(Though I did recommend to put bushings on the spur which I mentioned before, but TBH I could have gone full bearing since it's all 1J build stuff, but I have fuck all reputation so I have to do what I do well after all) -
DMR - bushings Vs bearings
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Sitting Duck's topic in General Discussion
It's funny, since the spur needs bushings more than the sector. It's lying on on side on the shell,so stress is unevenly shared between the axles while the bevel and sector have more-or-less even stress distribution. I've done this mix and no report of failure so far. -

I've been running a 50 degree rubber in my 330FPS rifle for the past year, about 20,000-ish rounds judging by the amount of empty bottles. No hints at performance decrease. I'd say 50-60 degrees should be grand. Most stock ones are about 60 if I remember correctly. -
Hand warmer motors have sort of lost their place nowadays since we have high speed ratio gears and neodymium magnets pretty much in most motors. SHS High torque motor is 16TPA. Offers a very good balance of the efficiency of a torque motor while the crazy strong magnets allow it to still have a good speed. Paired with 13:1 sets you can get 30 RPS with the right tuning. Also known as the ZCI balanced motor. ZCI High torque is a big beast. 22TPA. It's slow, but offer fantastic trigger response with High ratio gears and a good battery. Those are my go-to brands really. No big difference in quality between the two since they're both made in the same factory. G&P M120s are not bad motors but pretty outdated and you can have much much better motors for the price. The above two cost 30~ ish pounds on ak2m4. Paired with a good battery, these can give a nice ROF boost. You seem to be already sorted,7.4v 5000mah lipo is fairly good, especially so if it's 20c or more. I personally use(d) 9.9v LiFE batteries from Hobbyking,I think it was an 2100mah 40c one. Do note that it's generally recommended to reshim your gun with a new motor, there's this misconception from Yank retailer Youtube videos that motors are a drop in upgrade

The best tactical AK74 out there?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Gargamel's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
You can always just route new wires from the GB to somewhere else in the gun,but there's bugger all space if it's a folding stock AK since you have the blowback mech up top. Only option is to either jam a tiny af lipo in the handguard or get an external pouch or something which can look fugly and be impractical at times. Of course, this is pretty negated if you have an AKM or non folding AK74 since you have a stock to work with. I think the non blowback AKS74U has a regular battery system, though I'm not sure. Will need to check (update: Doesn't seem to be,looks like all of them use those sh*tty 11.1s jammed into the foregrip) I need to get a closer look at the guts of the connector system- Maybe you could even throw out the spring loaded brass pins in favor of copper ones, and mod an actually decent battery to have that sort of connecting system, though it would seem to take a bit of work. It isn't a bad idea this system,as I said before but they fucked it up by making the connectors brass and the battery a shit 11.1 with fuck all discharge rate -
The best tactical AK74 out there?

G&G's new series of RKs use LCT bodies which is nice. They also have proprietary 11.1v batteries built into the handguard, which imo,is not great since the battery they have isn't generally one i'd use,but it's a nice idea. Nothing 10 minutes of soldering and 5 quid worth of wire and deans connectors won't fix however. Blowback is a neat enough feature, especially on AKs,there's a nice steel on steel clink as you fire but,in all fairness, after I've used a TM recoil shock G&G's blowback does nothing for me anymore, but the sound does drown out the motor whine a little bit which is nice. I still prefer the sound of a perfectly shimmed gun though, with a nice little pop instead of a faux bolt jittering about. Non blowback version is cheaper and there's a slightly less of a lottery with the gun. G&G seem to have inconsistent QC on their piston heads which, when paired with blowback can either have fantastic consistency or mediocre. They feel super nice to hold and use, same as an LCT really, though I feel as though the handguards are shaped a bit differently in comparison to LCT but that might just be me. Internal quality is a cut above LCT. Like I've mentioned before,I was really impressed with their internal quality and how well it was assembled. -

Marui,Laylax and PDi produce a 14mm CCW thread adapter for the VSR 10 Pro series. You can find them on Ehobby,Xfire and most HK sites. PDi Ravens are known to be very good. Some have outperformed the more expensive SUS304 steel barrels. Although 6.01s are generally 'power up' barrels the PDi Ravens have fantastic accuracy on par with their own 'Accuracy' bore 6.05mm barrels due to a very good coating on the carbon steel they use. I will try and find a test a Japanese magazine made comparing PDi Ravens to their SUS304 counterparts. What do you mean by welts .43s? Brand? google isn't showing much -

Well, the one I had either did not feed, double fed or jammed. Not sure if it was a lemon, but other people have not had fun with it either. At least it fit into the gun decently. Maybe it will work, who knows. You can always flog it on a forum for cheap or something. Best mags for VSR series are TMs,hands down. Best feeding and they fit most guns. JG are close but their poor tolerances can cause bad fitment or misfeeding -

I used to like the idea of the PDR,and the looks did not really bother me,until I held one. Fuck me,I think I actually became the top cosplayer of the Hunchback of Notre Dame after holding one. Does not fit my lanky physique at all. I still appreciate the idea behind it though. A light little 5.56 rifle that can be used a sniper's backup. I still considered one, thinking I could bodge on a extended buttpad or something but then I saw the price and internals. Yuck. -
Type B arm is generally not suited for standard single nub bucking,it's more designed for rubbers with Fanged nubs like the Pdi W hold or Maple leaf bucking. Stock TM arm is generally fine in my experience, though I've modded mine to a type B-like since I use a W hold. The Dangerwerx arms are extremely pieces of kit,but mainly when paired with the right bucking. Nothing wrong with the stock TM arm though,It's generally far better made than the Chinese equivalents (No casting ridge on the inside where the adjuster contacts it,not crooked, not cast out of a mold made out of dog shit,etc..) The loss of click can either be from losing the spring to the nub shown in this picture(Goes into the secondary adjuster pieces,on the little nub. Has a detent in the hop unit for it) Or it can be from the little plastic nub wearing out but that's rather rare. http://i.imgur.com/o23kGKI.jpg

Oh god I despise spray on jeans. I tried on a pair once and I'm pretty sure I damaged something while putting them on and talking a small walk. Something just didn't feel right after them. Now the big fashion at least here in Ireland are Harem pants style jeans, super baggy at the crotch area then tightening to extreme spray on territory just above the knees. I usually wear military-ish stuff anyway. I like the M65s quite a lot, already wore them out a few times when I was dragged outside by my mates and on the bike-Top quality stuff. Though in retrospect, wearing them along with my boots and this rammstein hoodie http://www.rockness.eu/images/termekek/KapucnisPuloverek/132/26323095832_l.jpg got me a few odd stares -

Austrian M65,I think. Got them along with the Jacket. Label reads 'Heereseigentum FECSA/2005' Which is IIRC the designation for the whole uniform-Jackets and trousers. You can find a lot of fleabay and most surplus shops for 15 quid or under. They sit quit high and baggy,as you do with M65. Drawstring are handy for cuffing. Offer nice freedom of movement. Ripstop polycotton mix just like the jacket but bar the goretex of course. -

What is the best gun for around 300 EUR?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Gargamel's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Oh,I completely forgot about G&G's new AKs LCT bodied so expect excellently finished and strong externals. G&G's gearboxes I honestly prefer to LCT. All around solid parts, nothing in particular really fails. G&G's hop up units are very nice too. Not only that but they're built really well, mate of mine on skype showed me the guts and I was impressed. AOE was so-so as per usual with stock guns, but greasing was excellent, had a very nice lithium grease and shimming was nearly spot on,one shim removed from the bevel made it near perfect. Motor is rather serviceable. Note this is the non-blowback version which is a bit cheaper than the blowback. -
what boots you you use?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to armysurplusandtoys's topic in General Discussion
British Pro boots. Cheapo,Goretex lining, good leather quality and fantastic ankle support. Only gripe is that the soles are not as strong as I would like and the need insoles since they're a fairly rough ride. Otherwise I feel safe no matter what I step on or In My feet will be dry and safe. No such thing as overkill in boot quality. -
What hop up arm did you purchase, and what rubber? I had a problem similar to this however I found that was due to a) A dirty hop up rubber Cylinder lubricant drying up and causing excessive friction. Did you mod the cylinder components by any chance? First eliminate any possibilities of bad parts. Re-install the original arm and new rubber, new arm and old rubber,etc.. Check if the hop up rubber is seated properly,in the unit and on the barrel. Try to eliminate any cause of poor performance from the rubber by giving it a soak in some fairy liquid then a soak in some warm water, this will remove any mold release agent left on the rubber from the factory. I'd recommend finding a good guide on VSR disassembly. I recommend Worst In Finland's VSR 10 Total take apart guide,I have a link in the overview of the VSR in my sig,or you could just google and find the first result. Here's a big thing to do. Once you have the unit and barrel assembled, use a screwdriver to push up the C shaped plastic BB retainer. Then, look down the barrel and look up to see the rubber's contact mound. Move the hop up adjustment lever to and fro and see if it's going in evenly.

What is the best gun for around 300 EUR?
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies replied to Gargamel's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
TBH why buy a shit gun and blow the money on upgrades when you can buy a solid gun that with some tuning can be on par with an upgraded cheap gun costing way more. That said,I've personally had a sour experience with CYMA so I might be biased. Overall I seem to have fallen out with replacing bits on guns and prefer to tune them to work well instead. 70% of stock gun internals are perfectly serviceable. Only things I really replace are motors and hop ups. For OP,I'm not going off on a big reccomending spree since I've seen the E&L option has been sour, which is a shame.I actually recently got to use an E&L AKM and was thoroughly impressed,Performed nearly as well as my Mate's tuned LCT AKM- It felt a little more solid actually, the cast parts feel stronger and the charging handle is much better to use and being one piece is stronger. LCT has a nicer finish though OP,I'd consider LCT as an option- Yes,their internals are not as good as E&L,but their QC sure is. Their newer gearboxes aren't half bad to be honest, only flaring flaw I can find is poor AOE on the piston and the motors still being meh,not sure on their newer hop up units. RealSword do not make Russian AKs sadly, but they do make a Type 56 line that's made out of demilled Norinco rifles. Often agreed to be some of the toughest gats about, both internally and externally. VFC make very nice Russian AKs,however they are getting rather rare and out of budget. Externals are top tier but internal lack in some aspects,VFC pistons are notoriously shit and the rest is a solid 'meh'
