Morena with her new LCT Bakelite-esque pistol grip: I dunno... I mean Bakelite my arse, but i think it's better than the matte black G&P one which was on there before. But it's way too shiny, right?

It's a myth that Polish cavalry charged German tanks. In fact the Polish military were not mobilised when the Germans rolled in, so the defence was not supported by light artillery forward and heavy artillery in the rear, with infantry manning strong points and cavalry held in reserve to support weakening points and/or attack vulnerable extended supply lines... but the German generals didn't know for sure that the political maneuvering would create the degree of surprise it did, hence the tanks did not go charging in as massed armour but advanced accompanied, unsurprisingly, by their panzer grenadiers. So if the romantic myth had even a shred of truth, it would have been the German infantry whom the Polish cavalry charged. But it never happened. Some Polish cavalry units did participate in ad hoc attempts to defend against a German Armoured Division, they used their horses as transport to get to the battlefield, not to charge futilely into machinegun fire waving sabres. After all, the Polish were not especially blind or stupid whilst WW1 raged across Europe. Their military contained cavalry regiments, but they were geared up to fight trench warfare, like everyone else except the Germans, who had decided (correctly as it turned out) that the way to prevent a short term stalemate followed by a long term war of attrition was Blitzkrieg. But remember, only the panzer grenadiers were mechanised infantry, the rest of the German army also used horses for transport. Edit to add: why oh why does this fucking forum 'ware constantly select random bits of text for a font size rebellion?

Yeah, perforated sheet darkens the view like shades, but interwoven wire doesn't. It's just not that easy to find goggles made with interwoven wire anymore. Begadi do some, but as is usual with Begadi, the price of the product is fine, but the postage via amazon or card handling fee via their own webby is fucking ridiculous. These can be modified easily enough: ...to take the visor off the top and remove some of the plastic across the nose to make them fit western style beaks. The foam makes them very comfortable to wear and they will fit under a helmet, being the same shape as classic military goggles. It's a fiddle to make them work with an unmodified 1/2 face mesh mask, but then again, unmodified 1/2 face mesh masks don't work that well anyway. If you fit pads to the cheekbone area of the mask, it will be much more comfortable and fit tightly together with this ski mask style eyepro. I can't actually remember where mine are now or i would put up a close up pic showing how they fit together. I now use inserts made from the same size mesh as these goggles inserted into ESS Advancer V12's: ...0.71mm SS316 #8 mesh* After about 15mins your brain adjusts and you never notice the mesh unless something startles you in a way which makes you refocus your eyes close up. It feels like wearing nothing at all - more so than polycarbonate lenses which always have one or more of reflection, fog, condensation, or smears. *msg me if you want deets of how to make them.

What? I used a digital Vernier Callipers. Put the inner measuring prongs into the barrel and use the wheel to put pressure on them to open, then rotate the barrel between thumb and forefinger - the measurement that is displayed must be the max the prongs can move apart. That it registered exactly 6.08mm tells me that my theory has worked in practice.
-
I've just measured my stock A&K SVD barrel for you: ID = 6.08mm OD = 8.51mm The thing about R-hop is this, the hop set up you are already running can lift the heaviest BB you intend to shoot so much that it over-hops, ie rises in a daft way, then you cannot gain anything, can you? I haven't done as much experimentation with mine as i should tbh, but i suspect that i can get the airsoftpro.cz advanced hop unit (the same one ASPUK sell) to overhop 0.4's with the right rubber... and that is not complex to use nor is it subject to being knocked out of alignment.

Yes they are, but inert. 9x19mm Luger ball, which is actually incorrect for the Bizon-2 and Makarov which are chambered for 9x18mm.

I met two people at NAE12 carrying bokkens. I spose it depends on the site and whether you are trusted by the marshals not to be a tit with whatever you carry. I almost got a melee kill with a lightsaber on May 4th @MCG The Gaol. Never been even close to getting one with my Cold Steel trainer. My fav though... ...I've recently taken the lace off it. To paint the grip with some layers of varnish to make it look wood-ish. Need to get round to finishing that and getting some 10mm OD webbing to wrap the grip katana stylee.

I upgraded the barrel of my JG V61 Scorpion (their name for Vz61 Skorpion) to a 127x6.01mm PDI / x-fire.org were having a free postage event (it's something they do periodically so always worth popping in) so i thought i may as well give it a whirl - glad i did. Even though the groove for the rubber is on the same side as the window requiring a very rare type of rubber (which I CBA with) so I have been using it with a bodged in ordinary rubber wrapped in PTFE tape, the flat-ish range increased by over 5m but accuracy at range is markedly better - I'm waiting for some gb parts for it before i open it up again, but i now have one of the correct shape rubbers, so i have great hopes for it, since the ROF has been made more than acceptable by a LiPo and Gate Pico MOSFET. Note: not all PDI barrels have the funky groove position.

Anyone bought anything off WillBurnett Before
Ian_Gere replied to PurplePanda2123's topic in General Discussion
Don't tell PayPal that it is for an RIF - guns and replica guns are not covered by their buyer protection policy - we have discussed this in the staff room before, but nobody has been able to ascertain whether airsoft guns are excluded due to being RIF's. If I were you I would just say "Sporting Equipment", which is not a lie, although this is not a forum policy simply my own opinion. But yeah, no word after this long is a problem. It matters not whether he is dodgy, lazy, or incapacitated, it's been too long to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Raise a claim through PP. -
Problem fitting Suppressor to an AK. Help!
Ian_Gere replied to CaptainSwoop's topic in General Discussion
If the two pins through the underside of the front sight / gas block piece are not keeping it solidly attached to the barrel, then although you may be able to get it all wobbly free by tightening something onto the muzzle thread, it will be only one medium bump away from failure. Such a failure could, if you were carrying it slung, result in losing the top front handguard endcap - which particular one i mention because they are like the proverbial rocking horse shite... You might try taking the pins out and spreading the split in the dowel to make them fatter. They will then fit more tightly in their holes. If they have been hammered in and out a few times, they may have lost their springiness. These people do solid body pins - personally i was unable to find the right size split hollow dowel pins. However if you go after replacements and come up with the goods, please msg me -
You may be right to be concerned, Mr. MN, but I honestly don't think anyone, no matter how young or inexperienced, could mistake serious uncontrollable arterial bleeding for anything else. I mean, blood pumping out which does not stop when you apply pressure to the wound itself, or you can't because something is stuck into the casualty... it's not an ambiguous situation. Yeah, there are branches off the main arteries which could be damaged creating a wound which pumps blood but does not require a tourniquet, but a squirt a couple/three millimetres wide, even going a couple of feet, is not 'uncontrollable' and i seriously doubt anyone could think it was.

^^That's probably the same pack just £10 more expensive!

What was your first ever airsoft weapon?
Ian_Gere replied to JamesAirsofterAgent's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
CYMA CM.028U Tactical AK-47 called Sabine - still have her although a lot of her internals are swaps or upgrades. I fucked her up trying various upgrade parts, but mostly she worked better out of the box than with any upgrade parts i fitted. These days she's really well set up, but i don't seem to be able to keep her gb working longer than a day without locking up. Also bought a clear mini SPAS 12 for £20 while I was waiting for the tac AK to arrive. Call it Wilf. It's a POS. -
I've only used a PB mask once - the first time i skirmished they came with the rental guns. Never again. I think that if you're in reasonable shape then small fans can keep up, but if you're a knackered old fuck like me, no chance! The same with the likes of Cat Crap, Fog Tech, pre-treated lenses etc. - condensation may not fog them, but it's still there as liquid on the lens and it distorts your vision. Mesh is the way forward. No, fragments of shattered BB's cannot damage your eyes. Not ever. Under no circumstances.

So, I cancelled that UNCompany order above because the shipping turned out to be nearly $50 - went with just the G&P AK receiver, Saw Style pistol grip & top cover for $90.80 shipped. Dunno what has happened to them in the last year - they used to be uber cheap, but these days their shipping is always extortionate - but i can't get that receiver and grip both in stock at the same site to find a cheaper alternative. Considered going with a CYMA receiver instead, but i'm not convinced that the quality of old style CYMA metal receivers matches what I want for this build. I might be able to recoup a few quid by selling the top cover, because I want a ridged AKM style one for this build - it's a part that may get lost i spose... fingers crossed lol!

I started off thinking of the Bizon as a sniper backup, but after reading some more reviews I started to think that it would be good for CQB too, and now I've fired my own, it's good as an all rounder. Which makes me feel better about buying 2 extra mags and enough pouch space to carry 5 spares. Getting the mags in and out is a bit of a pain. Ah, I'll shut up and write a proper review when I've skirmished it!

Just to be clear here, that starter pack is a good deal for what you get - if you bought those items separately, especially if you bought them from various retailers so had shipping added for each item, you would have to pay plenty more. But it is not amazing. Nor is it awesome. For £120 + Shipping it is most of what you need to see if you enjoy airsoft. The only other essential is decent boots. The gun will keep up with most you will be up against. The eyepro gives good seethruability, but if you take a burst of full auto to the face, although there is no way that the mesh will fail there and then, it may bend so much that it becomes unsafe to use in future. It's pretty rare for that to happen though, because you jump and move your head! If you run around and pant inside that mask, you will get spit building up inside it, which is unpleasant. Compared to other designs it is not particularly comfortable - you've got thin plastic edges against your skin and you have to wear your eyepro tight, because if it slips while you are running, you could lose an eye. The problem is that the mask portion hangs from the goggles portion and all of it is attached to you by the single goggle strap, which means that you have to have the goggle strap tighter than if it was just supporting the weight of the goggles, causing the plastic edges to dig in more - I took the mask off and wore the goggs with a half face mask with its own strap... but only once because I had better goggs in the post! Read this before you spend any more money. Loz is right though - you will buy stuff which turns out to have been not worth bothering with. There is a whole industry based on the enthusiasm of noob airsofters, because we all went "Oh yeah, this is cool! Now I want all the toys... shiney shiney! Etc." and 90% of it is bollocks. Before you buy a different handguard, start a thread on here to ask if anyone knows whether it will fit a CM16, because different manufacturers do use slightly different sizes and methods of attachment. But before you think about fitting a torch, you need at least one spare mag. In truth, unless the site you attend has plenty of dark areas, you will get more fun out of a pack of 5 midcap mags and the webbing to carry them. Have you decided what you are going to wear? Knee and elbow pads will probably be more use than a torch also.

Well, by all means buy a new barrel. You will get more power from a TBB without changing the spring: about 25FPS by changing a 363x6.08mm stock barrel to 6.03mm TBB, depending on the air seal. You mentioned an M110 spring: one of those should give you 360FPS from an average stock barrel length and good air seal. An M100 should get you 330FPS, from a 363x6.08mm barrel and good air seal. An M90 spring should produce 300FPS, although they often get as low as 290 - it depends on the air seal.

There is a whole section of AF-UK dedicated to legal issues and many discussions here in General also, but the short version is no, you do not have to be registered with UKARA for the defences against prosecution under the VCRA to apply to you. As soon as you go airsofting, you are an airsofter, which means that you can 'Manufacture a Realistic Imitation Firearm' which is legalese for take the bright paint off, or put realistic colour on, your AEG/s. The issue however is proof which is why most retailers will not sell RIF's to you without a UKARA number and UK Customs apparently do not recognise any other proof (regardless of the legality of their taking that position). The simplest way to get a decent looking gun is to jump through the hoops and register with UKARA - 3 games in not less than 2 months, but not more than 12 months. For most sites the difference in price between renting one of their guns and turning up with your own is about £20, so buying your own now will save you £60 minus the cost of changing it to an RIF (measured in hassle not just cash and the fact that if you dismantle it to paint it, you void your warranty vs depending on how well you spray it whilst assembled, you may also void your warranty). That said you could buy 2nd hand, because many people will accept a photo of you airsofting as proof, and it is the seller who could in theory be prosecuted, not the buyer, so it is up to them (and anyone whose knowledge of events surrounding this law is current knows that it is not being enforced by the police anyway). Nevertheless we are a responsible forum and we urge you to abide by the letter of the law, which means do not attempt to cajole someone into selling you an RIF before you are a skirmisher. Another way depends on who runs your nearest site/s because some game organisers also retail guns and equipment and, if they are UKARA members (which most are), they may sell you an RIF but not allow you to take it home until after you have completed your 3rd game in not less than 2 months - this is the best solution if you want to buy new, but it's not that widely available. Short he says... lol!

That's a damn good point, Loz. I think that some guns are made to what seems to have been standard a few years ago - accurate enough to hit a man sized target at 30m and if you get better than that, it's because you had a lucky alignment of the planets and/or confluence of wide engineering tolerances. But in the 2 1/2 years I've been into airsoft, I've seen attitudes change - people want man sized target accuracy at 50m as a minimum, but there are still plenty of guns using old designs out there, so upgrades are necessary from the get go. At the risk of being thought of as more obsessively compulsive than i actually am, I'm going to bring your attention again to the most overlooked part when air seal is under discussion - grease. A lightly lubed gb may be nicer to work on and so long as the grease is good quality, a light smear probably isn't much less efficient than a good slobber of good grease, but when it comes to air seal, more grease is definitely better, so long as it isn't getting inside the hop. For sure certain hardware parts make for a better air seal, but a good slap of CT-2 Teflon grease will dramatically improve consistency as well as improve power output from the spring and it is gloopy enough to stay where it is smeared, not get blasted down the barrel. The next thing to consider is the air seal nozzle. Those which have an O-ring at their base are good for at least a 5FPS boost (with 0.2's) but they also lend consistency - putting a smear of CT-2 around just the base of the cylinder head pipe/spigot (what do we call that nozzle which we cannot refer to as a nozzle without causing confusion?) so that the air seal nozzle o-ring makes a very good seal, but the grease does not get forward and into the barrel, is the way forward. I'm not convinced that double o-ring cylinder heads are that much more efficient than single o-ring ones, because both the head and cylinder are locked in place by the closed gb shell. So, again, a good smear of grease between the two should be all that's necessary. That said I have bought one recently so i can test them out in more controlled circumstances than any old gb with a random mix of upgrade parts. I suspect that the worst place for air leakage is the interface between the nozzle and the hop rubber, which is why it's crucial to make sure that when you fit a rubber onto a barrel and push it into a hop unit the lip of the rubber is sticking far forward enough for the nozzle to engage with tightly. There is only about a mm of potential variance there, but I think there is a knack to it. Then there is how much air can squeeze between the rubber and barrel, inside the hop unit. I never really put much stock in the PTFE tape mod, but i have done it anyway because undoubtedly there is potential there for leakage. But when you read reviews of Modify Hybrid barrels, you have to take notice - the barrel grooves and corresponding internal ridges on the rubber can give up to a 30FPS boost - so that is the potential range of inconsistency, and it will not be the same from shot to shot, because leaks like that will vary depending on how much pressure they're under, so if a variation earlier in the chain changes the shot power by a little, this may be exacerbated... Finally I am in love with double o-ring piston heads - that's +20FPS right there and the closer you make the entire system to the theoretical maximum, ie no leaks at all, the less potential there is for variance between shots, hence greater snap shooting accuracy - i mean like the first shot you take with nothing to go on but your sights and your best guess about wind conditions and target movement. But let's also bear in mind that whatever BB weight we choose and whatever stock or upgrade internal parts we are running, the wind is still the most significant factor in determining where any particular shot will end up.

A sweaty LAN party -> sounds about right! When i was @uni we used to network a whole mass of computers through 2 PC's we had as the house net server and print server (there was Cat 5 cable running all over the house loose on the floor and dangling down the stairwell) and we used to play Unreal Tournament with about 8 participants - i'm not really a gamer tbh, but there's something about that game that brings out the worst in me, and others it seems, because we'd all be mega tense yelling abuse at each other through open doors, swigging far too much caffeine, and yeah, sweating like rapists!

YW Squirty squirty? I hope you mean silicone oil, because some other types of oil can do serious damage to various AEG parts - for eg WD-40 should never be used in any way which could result in it getting into the hop (so not in the gearbox either as air is drawn through the gb and picks up micro droplets of oil and grease as it does so). That said, while a lot of people seem to enjoy aerosol silicone oil, personally i think it is a sledgehammer to a drawing pin at times - you don't want loads of it inside mags for eg because oily BB's will not be as affected by the hop and possibly not evenly, but just 1 or 2 max drops in a midcap mag is enough to make the spring and follower operate more smoothly and increase capacity sometimes.

Yeah, I just used the camouflage off the netting, rather than wrap stuff around her which would have a tendency to get caught up on my gear and undergrowth. I cut it into strips mainly without loops, for the same reasons as dispensing with the net, and with angles so that when it hangs its centre of gravity makes it bunch into random shapes, rather than just 2D flat strips with wiggly edges. It was also Joseph Stalin's daughter's name. But for me the choice was simple: it's Russian beginning with SV(D)... All my rifles have female names, and my pistols male ones.
