Honestly, don't spend your money on a sidearm yet: there are things out of which you will get far more use. Buy a spare battery, spare midcaps, webbing, kneepads, elbow pads, better gloves (join the holy-grail-esque quest for waterproof, thornproof, warm yet easy to feel through), maybe try a different type of eyepro and/or lower face mask or try a full face alternative...

Yeah, A&K SVD's are pretty good OOTB - the benefits you get from upgrades beyond the hop unit and barrel are pretty small, except perhaps for putting a good slap of teflon grease on the piston head O-ring, which increases consistency between shots.

I'm not so much angry as disappointed.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Loadout - Easy or Difficult?
Ian_Gere replied to Hav0c's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I bought a skull patch that is from stalker a while ago but ive just had a search in my email and i cant find the receipt so i'm afraid i cant remember where i got it from. I suspect it was one of the bigger Russian equipment sites though: soviet-propaganda / sovietarmystuff / soviet-military but it could have been somewhere like airsoftpeak. If you find MCG The Gaol on fb they are having a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. weekend soon so you should be able to find out by asking on their group page. -
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Loadout - Easy or Difficult?
Ian_Gere replied to Hav0c's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
OD, IMO. That pouch is a Soviet VDV (paratrooper) mag pouch. It is belt mounted on simple loops, so unless you do some stitching you will not be able to swap it for 1 of those Swedish pouches - it would have to go on the belt. I'm not so sure the Swedish gear is really the way to go - it looks to me as if those front pouches form part of the load carrying harness, so the straps may be too short to attach to the belt directly. If you like the look of that Soviet style you could go with the full on RD-54 paratroopers kit, or a Soviet portupeya, which is the faux leather (pu coated canvas) Y-strap and belt. -
If cheap and value for money is the most important factor, this is potentially a fantastic deal in the offing.
-
It depends on a few criteria: what gun's magazines do you need to carry? how many? do you have an idea of what kind of loadout you will want eventually? and most importantly, have you seen anything you like the look of, that you think you would look cool wearing?

Sniper role - is this sidearm any good?
Ian_Gere replied to ronin677's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
For the same role I bought a JG Vz61 Skorpion, which is the same gearbox, motor and battery as these - I wasn't happy with the trigger response, but converting to 7.4V LiPo and Gate Pico AB MOSFET took care of that. TBH I think it'd have been OK with just the LiPo, but while I had it open I thought I may as well put the FET in. I have a PDI barrel in it also (basically because x-fire.org were having a free postage sale so I thought may as well), but that has made it so good that i've also ordered a full set of SHS gears for it, Kanzen bearings, and a magnesium alloy piston & 130% spring, so basically it should end up being good to go as a primary for CQB and allow me to drop my SVD and get forward if/when the team needs a bit of 'lead by example'. Although I have also recently bought a PP-19 Bizon II which I am hoping will work as sniper back up - 160rnd midcap fitted and 1 spare in a belt pouch / should be good even though it isn't lightweight. I agree with Chock that looking into SMG's may be a better way forward than a pistol, but then again, if you get a few spare mags, having no choice but to rely on the pistol and changing mags under pressure could well lead to some exciting skirmish moments... -
There are support groups for that...

What I love about that is the way they picture it on a decent hard case. Yeah, I mean once I've bought such an uber piece of orange plastic, I'm deffo gonna make sure i look after it On the issue of buying RS parts to fit onto RIF's, constituent parts means the bits necessary for it to function as a firearm so that doesn't include loading mechanisms, sights, or even triggers and the trigger mechanism parts - it means the bolt (and associated parts), the chamber & barrel, and the receiver.
-
Yeah, mine too... burns much better than the plastic.

Very much so - simple and intuitive to use; the audio accessories single TRS jack is a solid design which is not prone to becoming loose; the manuals are available online, so if you buy a 2nd hand one it's no bother to find what you need; signal strength is like any PMR446, weak, but of course intelligibility is affected by quality and where Motorola have the edge is that they make their own chips, so more of the unit cost is available for other parts. I'm not sure about hi-caps, but if you want mid-caps, MAG brand will fit and are good quality and reasonably priced. Otherwise, to be absolutely sure, buy G&G mags.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Loadout - Easy or Difficult?

Well yeah, but the CM.040 is a TM clone, not a VFC clone, and the latter is a lot nicer to hold. -
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Loadout - Easy or Difficult?
Ian_Gere replied to Hav0c's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Yeah, they are listed as economy versions. I sent the one i bought back because it was struggling to reach 35m with a flat trajectory. If you're unsure about being able to fit internals, then you can learn a lot by watching you tube tutorials - it's not like you have to build a gearbox though: you can buy 'em ready to rock. So the next most fiddly bit is fitting a rubber to barrel and getting it into the hop unit with the nub in place. It may take a few goes at it, because there is a knack, but it's nowhere near as fiddly as getting a GB shell back together. If you think about it though, using a D-Boys VFC clone as a body kit for CYMA internals ends up with about the same thing as swapping the receiver of a CM.048 for a D-Boys (Boyi) AKS-74 one and then all your bits are there ready, you just have to undo the body pin and a couple of screws. TBH, if it wasn't for the fact that i love the refinish job i've done on my CM.048 Morena's furniture, I'd do that meself - I may yet do it with another one. Although I suspect i'll buy an LCT body kit in the end and build the guts of my dreams in it. -
Of the polycarbonate lenses I've tried, Revision Bullet Ant's, with the dust filter foam removed from the vents, wiped with Fog Tech the night before and polished with the cloth which comes with ESS Advancer V12's just before use have proven the best - fog free for about 4hrs CQB, but once the fogging starts, further Fog Tech &/or ESS cloth polishes only last about 30-40mins before fogging again. Those new Bolle ones don't fog, but the liquid sweat still obscures vision. If you can find a mesh size which suits your eyes, so you always focus beyond it, that is the way forward imo. Personally I find Hero Shark's perforated sheet never quite disappears from my vision, but without doubt his mesh is the strongest out there - I'm sure it would stop 00 buckshot. To my mind thin wire mesh given strength by concave shape and a perimeter wire is the best, but nobody makes goggles like that commercially, so you have to do it yourself...

The pub I'm talking about is/was just around the corner from Bonnington Square, although it is over the boundary into The Oval from Vauxhall. Strickly good people. TBH I probably deserved to be barred: I used to get pretty out of order as a yoot. Of course, whether a place is friendly or not depends upon whom you are and your attitudes. I mean yeah, a pub opposite a primary school. Heaven forfend that children see adults being adults: scarred for life that shit. Next thing you know they'll think it's normal for adults to drink alcohol and some of them fall about drunk! -

OMGonads, the free food caf! I used to help supply that place. Lol i've just deleted a paragraph of stuff about Bonny - there's not much to discuss about that place on a public forum lol! I was never of the opinion that the Co-Op killed the place, as many people were; i think the centre of the universe had already shifted to Hammersmith by the time that happened, but yeah there were still some good times. I've just remembered - I was barred from that pub in the end! Ahahahahahahaaha! -

Ian_Gere replied to Hav0c's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
The standard AK skeleton folding stock requires a different receiver, it's not a bolt on option. I know what you mean though - I prefer the AKS-74 look too. On a cheap tip, there is a D-Boys RK-03WS, but you will probably want to either refinish or replace the wooden handguards because they look like a 70's shelving unit and the gearbox may not last long either, in fact the hop unit is probably shite as well - you know what? Better to think of it as a body kit and build the internals yourself, but the steel has a very good reputation. It is still likely to be cheaper than buying either an LCT body kit, or whole LCT gun (but don't buy any of the economy ones from fire-support b/c they are body kits with any old random bollocks for internals - you'd be better off building it yourself). Or, you could get the CM.048 and swap the receiver for a D-Boys one because they are both VFC clones so it should fit. I have a standard AK-74 flash hider on my AKS-74U because i hate those funnel stylee an ting. I think it looks cool: Depends how you feel about being sneered at by purists.
