I'm not quite sure what you were expecting when fitting a 9.3" rail on a 10.5" outer barrel? The repro SureFire cans need the clearance so the QD works properly, granted they're too chunky to sit 'in' the rail. Entirely subjective at the end of the day, I think snug to rail/'internally suppressed' looks decidedly wank so I like having rail - outer barrel - suppressor... granted I'm not sure I've ever bothered with a suppressor on a GBBR. It's just extra weight and length at the front for zero gain.
-
I imagine the temperature will have a lot to say in whether you're within the limits, so make sure you have a variety of pressured gasses with you/fit an NPAS to avoid disappointment at the chrono.
-
Not that it makes a particularly big/any difference to what's being asked, but in the interest of ensuring accurate information the stock barrel in all versions of the MWS is 250mm.
-
I dare say you need to elaborate a bit given how vague this is, but reading between the lines I'm assuming you're asking about the 'right' length of a HAO MK16 rail? Either is fine, if you're sticking with a 10.5" outer barrel I'd go for the 9.3, if you're picking up an 11.5" barrel from HAO while you're there then the 10.5 is fine. Unless you're fucking about with the internals you're running a 250mm inner barrel in either case, so ultimately it's what do you like the look of more 🤷♂️.

Optic Height - Where does your preference sit?

Stacking up mounts like that will land you at pretty much the same height, if not higher. I'd suggest you look at things of this ilk, they come in a variety of lengths and heights from a variety of brands. -

Depended on how heavy I had it loaded, I found they’d cut in a bit on the top edge (closest to my neck) without pads if I was running a lot of kit. When I used pads it was the BFG ones I used if memory serves, but these strap sock things are probably the best solution I’ve tried to date. Bit of padding for the shoulders, and rounds off the edge of the uncovered pads to prevent any neck rubbing (granted I always have my neck covered with a gaiter or balaclava nowadays). -

Aye, I’ve had a Slickster in the past (and another FCPCv5) both very comfy. The shoulder design on the FCPCv5 takes it for me, only got rid of my last one to downsize because since I’ve downsized it felt just too big at a large. I’ve always sat in between medium and large plates, usually going for large for availability reasons as much as anything, so it’s nice to not be straddling the middle anymore. -
Optic Height - Where does your preference sit?

The Unity risers (be that real deal or PTS version) are a great height for me on the rare ocassion I use my Dye mask. As long as you're in the region of a 2" centreline I imagine you're good to go assuming you're running what I'd call a 'normal' stock i.e. no massive cheek risers. Lower 1/3 co-witness is somewhere between 1.6"-1.75" centreline (I've read/heard a variety of numbers so it doesn't seem to be a consistent figure), so a half inch riser under a lower 1/3 should see you right if you feel you need a bump but can't be bothered forking out for a Unity/Unity repro. -

An extremely gratuitous few purchases, but ones I’m over the moon with: Ferro Concepts FCPCv5 Ferro Concepts Assault Cummerbund Ferro Concepts Strap Socks (I reckon these have been updated with a bit more padding than the last set I had, big fan) Ferro Concepts TEAR Front Panel AXL Advanced Admin Zipper Esstac KYWI 5.56 Full Size Spiritus Systems Small GP Pouch Trident Gear Training Plates - Swimmer Cut Extremely comfortable, breathes nicely, the cummerbund is superb and the front panel might be my favourite looking one to date alongside taking mags very nicely without feeling like I need to attach the bungees. -
It was actually the other way round I’ll have you know! 👀😂 Started off the day using the Dye mask, couldn’t see shit courtesy of the rain so went back to the safe zone to swap out eye/face pro and figured I might as well swap out toys while I was there! (This was also pre fitting the B-18 so the red dot was up front, looks cool as shit… but in practical terms didn’t get on with it at all 😂)

Ta for the heads up, looks like I managed to successfully camera dodge for the duration I was there. Photos from my first game back following restrictions lifting went up today from the Dagger Woods lot though. Can always rely on photos, to remind you how old you're getting... I'll be sticking to the helmet from now on I reckon, keep those greys under wraps 😅.

Fuckin' 'ell, hahahaha! Not sure I entirely/at all agree with the 'sniper' sentiment. Horses for courses I guess but while a well set up bolty can out range RIFs which have to abide low FPS/joule limits I don't tend to think you can make them much/any more accurate than them. Depends on playstyle I guess, but I much prefer not having to walk shit in and land my first 2 shots with a relative degree of certainty. Fuck me! When you said double stacked riser I assumed you meant double rail riser, not full on double stacked mounts. -
Aye, I gathered the parts across a few months and almost hadn't realised how wince enducing the total was until pricing it up for the listing. I guess the whole 'exact setup they want' was largely was I was eluding to with the 'typical jazzed up Krink' statement. Excluding a stock it has literally everything you could put on a Krink from their catalogue on it, and all the parts from stock to remove anything that wasn't wanted. So it's kind of pretty much as deep as you can go unless you're after adjustable LoP or just like the look/feel of the Zenit stocks. Fingers crossed, with that said I'm in the fortunate position of not being in a huge rush hence the lack of willingness to split or drop it at fire sale prices. Obviously listing it in the hope it'll sell, but I've certainly been more keen to have somethign shifted quickly in the past... and had to price accordingly.
-
Not unreasonable, but I also wonder if that's more down to the effort involved in getting there than it is because folks don't want them. Could well just be my bias though, dripped out AKs always garner a lot of attention. I know I get a lot of questions about it when I've used it. Which largely leads in to the next bit in regard to the fettling and machining to fit, which I can tell you first hand isn't notably cheap to have done right. Had it not been for me being notably brutal now in terms of keeping my collection to what I actually used I'd definitely be holding onto it, but seeing RIFs not getting used just makes me sad... and I know this one will sit on a shelf because I'm a boring mayo AR guy and I simply have to accept who I am.
-
Aaaaaaand up it goes, thanks for the responses folks.

Aye, as noted in the initial post I've sold enough 'high end' RIFs to know how to sell them at a decent pace and where the perceived value generally sits. On actual costs the £800 I'm enquiring about here is probably not far off 50% of what the build cost in total rather than the regular 60-70%. Lands in a weird spot between niche and 'typical' in terms of an externally jazzed up Krink, given the general limitations of what you can actually do to them. Ultimately I don't want to be sat on a bunch of furniture fielding the never ending flood of 'will this fit on [insert something which isn't the exact RIF they're currently on here]'. The nature of AKs is that I can't honestly answer that question with 100% accuracy/honesty even is the RIF in question is another E&L AK. For those which have left a comment, noting it'd go easier split up, does £800 seem fair for what's on offer? Pricing things like this always feels like a bit of a nightmare... but I know the moment you pop up a RIF on here for anything above £400ish without explanation 9 times out a 10 you're ending up on Mack's within an hour.

Hi folks, This is a project I started gathering bits for much earlier in the year, had the fitting and machining work. Have now used it twice at games and it's just not for me in terms of the ergonomics and general controls/manipulation. What I'd affectionately call 'doing a Dave', those that know... know (a degree of irony given he's the one that did the work). Certainly in no major rush to be rid of it, but it's a bit too much cash tied up for a wall hanger for me. I'll list everything in detail below, emphasis on detail. Base RIF: E&L AKS74U Tactical MOD C Platinum (bought from new) Externals: Genuine ZenitCo B-11U Handguard (machined to fit with no play or wobble) Genuine ZenitCo B-19N Upper Rail Genuine ZenitCo PK-6 Hand Stop Genuine ZenitCo B-18 Optic Rail Genuine ZenitCo B-2 and B-2L Rail Segments (1 of each) Genuine ZenitCo NPN-2 Rail Covers (2x desert, 2x black) Genuine ZenitCo A-2L Sling Mount Genuine ZenitCo RP-1 Charging Handle Extension (machined to fit without play or wobble) TWI DTK-2 Compensator (machined to fit with proper timing, some wear on the trades) 5KU PBS-1 Mini Suppressor Unkown Brand Repro US Palm Grip (machined to fit with no play or wobble) Unknown Brand 'Tactical Selector' (likely Cyma but not certain) Internals: ASG U-22000 Motor (motor cage modified to accept) Lonex Helical Bevel Set SHS 13:1 Gear Set PhosBro Bushings Stock E&L piston LPE Piston Head Lonex Cylinder Head Airlab Sorbo Pad (modified to volume) Stock E&L nozzle Prometheus Cylinder Guarder SP110 Spring (2.5 coils removed) E&L Spring Guide E&L Tappet Plate Gate Titan Mosfet Trigger Short Stroked ZCI Hop Unit (hop arm r-hop modded) Prometheus 6.03 245mm barrel (machined to accept r-hop) SixG Silicone R-Nub Promethus Purple Bucking Stock parts which have been swapped out are all present bar the bevel gear which was donated to someone in need. FPS wise it's 340 on a 0.2gs BB with a variation of +/- 3, ROF is sitting at 16RPS on a 7.4v LiPo. Currently set up to be running 0.28g BBs. Will come with the stock mag and 6 Cyma mags which have been modified to fit. I've probably put about 500 rounds through it, it is noted that the r-hop will take around 2000 rounds to fully settle. Pictures below, note that the optic and sling aren't included in the sale. More than aware I'm going to lose a significant amount based on what it cost to put together, the regular formula lands me around the £800 inlcuding fees and postage mark. If buyer wanted to collect they'd be welcome to some batteries. It's a niche build, with a high price tag and expect it won't go particularly quickly... but does that pricing seem reasonable? I'm aware I could shift it quicker should I, at the very least, removed the ZenitCo bits and sell it largely as stock E&L externally with jazzed up internals. But as noted a few times, really not in a mad rush to part with it... just know I want to part with it. TIA, Alex

Optic Height - Where does your preference sit?

Aye that's the one I swap in and out between, I hope it serves you well :). Aye, I only found out I had one recently (well, within the last year or so). I'd just assumed all the repro red dots I'd used were shite hence the blurry dot, apparently not. Granted aiming with both eyes open, again something new to me within the last 6 months or so, it seems much less of an issue. I had a 2020 version Strike Eagle 1-6 on a 1.93, I liked the height but didn't get on with the optic at all. My MWS is in the process of having a carry handle grafted to it so I'm intrigued to see how I get on with the centreline being around the 2.6" region. Having done some playing around after posting this thread I've realised I've got into a really bad habit of shouldering my RIFs really high to reduce the strain on my neck, because you don't exactly need the firmest shouldering for airsoft stuff, which is probably why I'm struggling with the Unity as much as I am. Not sure if it's something I can bothered to correct at this point in time, but at least I know why I guess 🤷♂️. I remember accidentally stumbling onto the same thing with some canted irons which I'd thrown on because I thought they looked cool way back when. -
If memory serves I was on the red team, I spent most/all of the afternoon in the 'tank graveyard' area. Of the bits I saw that was probably my favourite part of the site. Truthfully I probably shouldn't have played this weekend, but I imagine I'll be fine by the time I'm playing next, appreciate you saying so. 'Conventional' woodland sites are probably my favourites over all, especially if there are a few structures so I'm very much looking forward to it. The folks from that group of friends which have attended before say it's their favourite of the RIFT sites so fingers crossed it holds up to the praise... granted it's all subjective at the end of the day!

Optic Height - Where does your preference sit?
alxndrhll replied to alxndrhll's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
This is somehow equal parts funny and sad. -
Despite the fact irons are more than adequate for airsoft, depending on your eye/face pro some would likely even argue the best thing to use, most airsofters I see these days are running some for of optic. Having spoken to folks I know a lot of them are just there for looks, where shoots are generally 'walked in' more than they are aimed. Others exclusively using an optic, and some a mixture of the two. But something I've found intriguing over my past few games is the variety of heights these optics are sitting at, and the reasoning (or lack thereof) for that height. Generally speaking, as alluded to earlier, the eye/face pro I'm running tends to dictate the height for me. If I'm running larger facepro (a well padded/mesh mask or a Dye mask) I'll use a Unity Fast Mount which pops the red dot on stilts, and if I'm using my Valhalla mask (similar to the Delta Mike ones but far superior for comfort imo having tried both) I'll swap out to a lower 1/3rd co-witness. As much as I wish I could get my muscle memory to a point where I just run the Unity one I simply find lower 1/3rd more comfortable unless there is something physical, i.e. a bulky mask, stopping me getting down lower. My neck certainly hurts a bit less after a day running the Unity, but I find getting a consistent sight picture every time I set my cheek really just isn't there and it simply feels a bit cumbersome. I guess that's what years of only ever running optics around a certain height will do for you. I'm keen to give a 1.93" a go at some point, as a middle ground between lower 1/3rd and the Unity it might be just right for me... but I also might just be continuing to throw money at something when I'm already in possession fo the best option for me. Am I alone in putting far too much time and thought into dicking around with optic height? Is it something you consider at all? Or is it all a bit too much of a faff for a romp around on a skirmish day?

Ended up heading out for a game every weekend for the last 3 weekends (including yesterday). It's been forever since I've been anywhere close to that regularly, thoroughly enjoyed myself each time. 1st was a woodland game at Dagger Woods in Preston, only issue I had all day was ear pro not sitting comfortably and my trousers being too big. Opted to attach my Peltors to my helmet to fix the first issue, and some correctly sized trousers for the second. A very active day, Dagger is a very weird woodland site because it's pretty small so it feels very intimate. Lots of opportunities for flanks, and that is high on the list of shit I love. 2nd was for the second day of the 'Shift Your Rifts' event at Redcon-2, first games at a brand new sites often kinda suck for me. You have some decent engagements but I generally find I have no idea what's going on or where I'm supposed to be going. Unless a site is run like absolute garbage or I just get an sense that it really isn't for me I'll tend to try a site 2-3 times before I'd say it's actively bad, getting a feel for the lay of the land can really sway how enjoyable a site is for me. So yeah, a lot of aimless wandering. Ended up with a nasty muscle strain in my thigh in the morning from the very heroic act of... standing up from crouching a bit too quickly, boy do I love getting old. Back to warming up ahead of game days for me from now on. Took the rest of the morning off to have some painkillers and wander around to keep things as limber as possible, popped on a compression sleeve and played the afternoon keeping to a smaller section of the site. Corrections to kit worked out nicely. 3rd (yesterday) was back to Dagger Woods. Had a great time as I always do there, this being my 4th game at the site. Thigh was much better but I made sure to be 'responsible' around it, excluding game two where I decided to run around like a moron retrieving canisters... 9 of the teams 11 retrieved that game. Ok, I was more responsible about carrying an injury in the afternoon. Outside of that just a really solid day, good hit calling, good marshalling, all my kit behaved bar wiping about the QLS receiver for my holster doing a slide into cover retrieving 1 of the aforementioned canisters... like a twat. Fortunately the cheapest part of my holster setup to replace, so though I won't celebrate breaking something that's somewhat of a silverlining. Two week break now until I head back to Dagger Wood for their final game of this year (unfortunately the site is only open for a few months of the year), and then off to Com's Site 3 the weekend after that with the same group of friends from down South that I went to Redcon with. Thoroughly enjoying getting out and playing at the moment, long may it continue 🤞.

Fair, I honestly hadn’t considered how wide the variance of what different folks do and do not consider racist because that is an absolute home run for me… hence sitting here going back and forth on it. Not to say my opinion on that has changed, but I appreciate you answering. I dare say that sliding scale is the age/generational (I say this as a 31 year old, with no actual idea what ages everyone else is so this could turn out to be utter nonsense) thing I’m missing, which in hindsight has been inferred by the other chaps that have been commenting away for the last few hours. Once I’m ‘off’ I’m seemingly more than happy to just read the bits I can snipe at, or at least only consider those bits. Again, doesn’t change my opinion but I’m trying to see it from ‘the other side’ as best I can. To be entirely transparent it was ‘can you see how long you can hold your breath for’ or something along those lines. I’m not sure how that could be interpreted as anything else than ‘go kill yourself’, but I might be missing something.
-
Ultimately depends on the context. Assuming that context is the same as presented in the initial instances, yes. Irrelevant of context the middle one is. Yes. Yes and yes. Not really sure what the point of all of that was?
-
Genuine question, you don’t think ‘slitty eyed little yellow friend’ is way over the line? As stated earlier before I seemingly started getting dog piled for thinking racist comments of any ilk aren’t appropriate, that’s the one that led me to saying something. As you say, I don’t think Druid’s was appropriate but that had seemingly been discussed before I said anything. Disagree with your conclusion there, but you’re entitled to it. It was edited after posting, but there was a comment made suggesting I should kill myself for my opinion earlier so I figure most things are fair game from there. I don’t think I’ve gone any further nor got any more personal than anyone else.
