Despite everything that went on, I had a great time that weekend. I went out to a mall to shoot at people and get shot at. Hang out with some friends and make some memories. I ticked all of those off the list. And that's what I set out to show in this video, that despite the craziness that went on with the constant waiting around, stopping and starting, injuries, miss communication of rules and all the other stuff, at it's core it's a bunch of nerds knocking about in a mall with toy guns having a laugh.
Thanks for hitting that sub button yo! I've got the actual gameplay videos from the weekend in the works which should be hitting the channel soon!

It's manufactured by Invader Gear, and by my experience with them, it should withstand some abuse.
The US woodland set I bought 6 years ago hasn't faded yet.
It's OEM by TMC. I've got a set of the G3 clones from them. I do agree on the quality of Invader gear though. I've got a good few UBACS shirts from them!
I don't know what everyone's doing to have their TMC/Emerson gear fade so much in the wash. I've got several sets of TMC/Viper/Emerson/Invader and they've been washed dozens of times with no visible fading (the invader m81 has faded a little to a nice "issued kit" aesthetic though).
Lots of talk about kryptek camo in here. I need to go take a shower after even thinking about that horrendously unfashionable set of patterns!

No, not voluntary chrono. Second day they rounded everyone up for chrono and put stickers on guns that passed. Found without a sticker? Kicked off
I was chronoed and didn't receive a sticker. Chrono had my MP5 at 185 with .25s (Chronos at 295-300 on my chrono and every other chrono i've run it through.)
I don't believe the two guys I was rolling with received stickers either.
That game on call on the second day... We had a solid plan and we were all hyped to execute it. As soon as we heard game on we went full send. Then got sent schlomping back to the CP with our tails between our legs. Didn't take the wind out of our sails though. After another ten minutes of standing in the pitch black CP stacked up on the door waiting for the real game on call we went full send again. It was a great start to the game. And a great start to a much better day!

There were too many players for the site and it would've been way better with half the players (again. Like the Citadel) and marshalling could've been done better as CQB is a lot harder to marshall than woodland and they definitely didn't have enough experience on the marshall team nor the numbers to deal with the absolute asshats who were taking the piss when it came to hit-taking. However, what isn't being shared in this is that the most experienced marshall who was directing the games took a really nasty tumble, dislocated his knee and had to be rushed to hospital on the first day. He was back on crutches on day 2, which went a lot smoother.
The Facebook drama went way, way too far in my opinion. Sure, there were some people offering constructive criticism, but there were others just dogpiling on the staff for player-led problems and as soon as that started happening, you lost me; the non-apology post by the staff wasn't great, but the response to it was a lot worse. At the end of the day, blaming marshalls for players not taking their hits is a bit weak; if players took their hits, marshalls don't get tied up in resolving the (countless) times non-hit taking was observed and can focus on keeping the game dynamic and interesting. If they had more numbers I think they could've done more about it (and that is where I think the blame there falls with them as you're always going to get at least some godmode meal team nine oper8rs at large events and need to plan for it), but I'll direct my annoyance more at the players who were taking the piss; probably about an 80:20 split of my ire for players and staff respectively. Seriously, the non-hit taking was absolutely awful at this event and was probably my biggest gripe; I personally saw a lot of it because I was silly(?) enough to bring a magnified optic to a CQB event and 5x zoom was helpful in spotting the BBs hitting their targets. Again, 2nd day was waaaaaaaaay better for hit-taking, though there were still some instances of clear piss-taking.
Outside of that my only other gripe was their rules being a bit silly but I've already elaborated on that multiple times. I wanted to bring one of my (many) 1J bolt action builds, but they weren't allowed for reasons that still elude me.
I went in with no expectations apart from the fact that I would make of the event what I would and I would find ways to enjoy myself. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend and had many good laughs. Did my sniper-y thing and crept into positions where I was either concealed in shadow (like a true edgyboi) or to where the target I was presenting the enemy was so tiny that it was never getting hit at those distances and just used the MWS for what it's great at. Next time (doubt there will be one at that venue though) I'll bring a bolt action if I'm allowed (😡) or at least my HPA m21 even if it's a CQB venue like that. Also, it was a fantastic workout because I used my heavy setup with the weighted plates in my plate carrier as well as a LOT of gas magazines; probably about 20kg of gear I was lugging around all weekend and I managed it! Didn't lighten my load or give up on the idea, and I was a lot more active on day 2, running around the place to get to positions or across an area being fought over.
Met lots of great guys there and really enjoyed the social aspect too. Also, we found a pile of abandoned clothing in our day 2 CP and decided that we would have a bit of fun. We rocked up to the morning brief on day 2 like this:
Anyway, I'm tired after a lovely 6 hour trip back down to the south coast and I'm going to go collapse into a pile and not wake until work on Tuesday!
I was standing next to you guys in that second day safety brief! I thought you'd come on a stag do or something!

Level 2 has been my main squeeze these days. But I play all around the North West and a little further afield when I do actually get the chance to get out and play.
Became a regular at SWAT for many years after Ambush closed.

Upgrades seemed to be a stronger spring, metal bushings and a higher voltage battery. Didn’t always last that long.
BB weights were .2 or .25 if you were feeling posh.
Metal bodies were well over £100 for a M4, the main main aftermarket parts producer was Systema.
Don't forget those Excel 0.23's the cool kids used to run!

Used to speak to him on the regular in #airsoft, he seemed a decent enough chap... Until he didn't.
Now, when can we get act dead and the cigar of choice klub going again?
#airsoft on IRC? Spent many nights on there with the "Insomniac army"
Sorry to drag up an old thread btw. I was giving "Academy XM177 vintage airsoft" a googs and this thread came up in the results. (Trying to get hold of another of my first ever AEG for the nostalgia)
I played my first proper game in September 2000. (Had springers and gas pistols for a few years before that)
I often look back at the old days with how simple the game was, less rules, less stress, less arguments. If I was given the option to time travel somewhere I'd definitely go visit some of my old haunts again with a modern AEG...

I seem to recall in the safety brief a statement along the lines of "If you are going to go on the roof of a building, please be careful" (cut to 2021 safety briefs "please try not to run, you might fall over")
I didn't realise the furniture was there to cover holes. That's quite amazing.
I found some photos from the event recently, I don't think there was anyone with a comedically large moustache or a beret though.
Also, you are one post away from the perfect number of posts, which means of course, you'll have to stop posting. But it'll be a beautiful number.

The top of my list is Dragon Valley. (I know, I can hear someone in the back shouting "But they are still open!") I'm talking the old school Boys village site in West Aberthaw. By todays standards, it is a fairly tiny site. But back around 2000-2002 when you saw photos of players walking through what looked like streets playing airsoft, when all you had was a woodland site that was predominantly paintball, so all of the wooden structures where constantly covered in orange and green goop. It seemed like airsoft heaven. At the time, on the "Ol' blue" forums it was the site that everyone talked about. I made two trips down there, once for a normal walk on game (A good few of the #airsoft mIRC crew where present) and once for a weekender event which was dominated by the WASP team (It was the event where for some reason Silvafox wanted his boot prints on the ceiling of the safe zone above the stair well, so some guys lifted him up and stuck his feet to the ceiling.) I was between 17 and 18 when we went down and it felt like the wild West. Super laid back, the general consensus was "don't be a dick" and "take your hits and everything will be fine" and the atmosphere was amazing. Part of me thinks it's just nostalgia that makes it seem so amazing, but it was a great little site and it stood out in the community. On a side note. The first time I was there, I knocked myself out in the empty swimming pool, the second time I broke my kneecap. Bloody good times!
A site that gave me a similar vibe to DV was SWAT Saighton camp. "Ol Satan" was a site that a lot of us sort of took for granted. We didn't really know what we had until it was gone. Massive site, with huge indoor areas, lots of buildings and roads. Plenty of weird spots to hide and a great community. The filmsim games they used to run where loads of fun. The Terminator game stands out, I was on the Skynet team and relived the police station scene from the first movie by just casually AF walking into the resistance CP with a SAW and wiping the whole place clean.
If time travel holidays ever become a thing, or if somebody makes total immersion video games that are indistinguishable from reality. I'm re living the super happy fun times at those two sites.
other sites that are gone but not forgotten:
Ambush Strines (where I lost my virginity, not "that" virginity... The one with the balls being fired at you)
SWAT Area 51SWAT Fortress
Wentworth CQBLabyrinth CQB (I know F&O have it now, but it's just not the same)
The Stan was always a good laugh

Wire, plastic or wood? (asking for a friend)
Just picked up a shipment of these Snake Eyes helmets, I've got a bunch of ARC rails and NVG mounts coming from wish this weekend... Anyone want a totes operator AF helmet? I've got some paperwork that says it's totes legit and will stop a bb (tested very scientifically with a .12 fired from a mcdonalds straw) prices between £69 and £420 depending on if I like you and how much glue I've had to use to stick crap onto it...

I’ve been running JT Elite goggles since the very early 2000’s. They are a mixture of cost effective and solid as a nori brick. That being said. If I take a serious hit to the lens I’ll swap it out for a fresh one. Even if I don’t, it gets changed after about six months of use.

How's the CXP15K holding up? It's been a little while (aside from the Covid hiatus) since I've run mine. I'll have to dust off the cobwebs and give it a spin soon

or as an alternate to the rear wire switch assembly with mosfet, one of the CS4 S3 drop in lowers would do the trick. It has the SSS electronic trigger in there. I run them in a few of my ICS rifles, once of which I run on 11.1 with no issues. - https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ics-cs4cxp-aeg-sss-lower-gearbox-rear-wired

To get it close to the naval pattern, you could try dying a pair of the arid Vegetata trousers, https://www.camopedia.org/index.php?title=File:Italy22.jpg the pattern doesn't have black though, so it wouldn't be identical, but it would take a blue dye better than the woodland pattern

I recommend them. I've had them in "V cam Black" for a while now. They are pretty good all round pants, a lot of Crye features, (stretch fabric, enhanced cut and knee pads) but they take a few different design choices (rear pocket flaps and belt loops, no stretch fabric in the scrotal zone and no knee pad flaps if you want to run them without the knee pad inserts.) The fabric is poly cotton, so it isn't as hard wearing as some of the other Crye clones made from Nylon Cotton, but the fabric is tough enough. The stretch fabric is where I felt a bit cautious about them. It feels very thin and like it could tear. I haven't had any issues with it yet (I've wore them in game and as part of the rotation for my daily pantaloons, they've had a LOT of use.) They come with the knee pads, which some clones don't and the knee pads are on the higher end quality wise. The velcro that holds them in is solid and does the job well.
I've been slowly putting together reviews of all the popular "Crye clones" from the cheap as chips (wish specials) all the way up to legit Cryes... (Yes, this means my wardrobe is full of Crye and Crye clone pantaloons. No I'm not sorry ) So here's a link to a longer, more in depth review of them.

And ad agency I used to work for had a Maxim in the boardroom. Legend has it it was used on the Russian front.
I spend a lot of my spare time behind the sewing machine, either modifying things to fit my hobbit size frame or updating designs to a more modern/useful cut etc.
The plate carrier was built from scratch using 500D PECOC Hybrid pattern fabric. Based on the Viper VX buckle up plate carrier. (The buckles and cummerbund are Viper - using their buckles allows me to add on any Viper mini rig) I've built two of these now, one in this PECOC pattern and one in BATUS/Opfor Blue DPM. I'm working on a third in good old fashioned Queens plaid DPM 1000D fabric.
The DNG parka was inspired by Hannleitassa's "Krus cut" parkas on Instagram. Cropped to waist length, added a zipper, removed elastic cuffs and added velcro adjustments. Added "raid mod" pockets to shoulders, added actual pockets where the pocket flaps where. I'm going to start a second one soon that will be a pull over like the 0241 TOP. I'm also having some fabric printed in DNG but an Arid colour wayto build one from scratch.
The "Micro fight" clone is copied from a Viper VX mini rig, Again, using Viper buckles so it's cross compatible.
From the previews the colour on these looks mental. I'm not sure what colour profile these forums use, but they look completely off to how they should.

I've had a good few, but two that I always bring up happened at the old (OLD) Dragon Valley site (Boys Village, West Aberthaw - RIP in peace, one of the best urban sites I've ever been to.)
First incident (TL:DR) Just as the last game of the day was drawing to a close, I ran from the "gym" (basketball court situation,) up the bleachers and through the door leading into the empty swimming pool. Despite being warned not too do a "fall in the pool" in the safety brief, I did a fall in the pool and domed myself. Saw stars and definitely did some damage. I wear helmets these days.
Second was at the weekender when Silvafox was hoisted upside down in the safe zone above the stairs because he wanted his boot prints on the ceiling...
Last game of the day again, Pepperpotting back to our "Alamo" point, I tripped over a piece of barricade and whacked my knee on a brick/rock/Accy Nori that had somehow followed me all the way to Wales) and broke it. I didn't realise at the time, adrenaline kicked in, asked a guy to drag me into the storage cupboard we all planned on hole-ing up in and for that twenty seconds of crazy pain being dragged by my vest sling rounds through a borrowed MP5 because I'd done something stupid to my XM177. It was real. Best day ever. (5 hour trip home was the worst.) - Luckily the guy who drove us down is a paramedic and strapped me up, gave me something for the pain and I was out for the duration. That was about 20 years ago and that knee is still dodgy. (Knee pads lads... knee pads...)

Best CQB/indoor Airsoft sites in Yorkshire?
in Other Events and Meets

I hear there’s something happening in Bradford soon, I don’t have any details though.
There’s Kill House somewhere in/around Leeds
if you fancy a trip to the correct side of the Pennines Level 2 in Atherton is the definitive CQB site these days.
