adhesive vinyl stencils , inbetween the colours
    This one for example ,

    base coat black

add first stencil layer then overspray with olive ,

next stencil layer overspray with grey

then some light dusting of black to blend a little , leave to dry , peel & reveal

Optics & accessories to match / same method

Fair enough, I've just found the quality per £, far higher in the air rifle world than Airsoft. £450 in Airsoft gets you a Taiwan made plastic musket, slinging light spherical objects at 2.2J. In the air rifle world it gets you something made in Germany from beech and steel, firing through a rifled barrel at 16J.

The obvious advantage to Airsoft being able to skirmish with it.

In answer to your question, I'd say pick up any cheap Well rifle. It'll probably be OK for your purposes and if not, you can enjoy tinkering with it.

I can add to Lord_Poncho's comment about the WELL MB01
I got one to try out as it was cheap and wanted to try a boltie just in the garden.  I was lucky enough to get a relatively good one.
It shoots almost exactly 450fps(0.2g) stock and is accurate enough to reliably hit a tin can at 15m which is the max distance I can shoot in my garden. (I use 0.3g BBs)
Haven't tried it in an actual game but for a bit of plinking fun its quite satisfying. (Tip: Pull the bolt as close to the body as possible to avoid too much side torque)

BUT if you're after accuracy then stick to air rifles as airsoft is nowhere near as accurate.

Not the forum to discuss in depth but any reason to not just buy an air rifle if you're taking it to am airgun range? I have both Airsoft and air rifles, the accuracy of any airsoft gun pales in comparison.

I have two Well MB01 (L96) (actually one is an MB08, but that's just a different stock design  - same working parts). One shot acceptably well of of the box, and could actually be fielded as a vaguely competitive rifle. The other, out of the box,  was utterly put in the shade by every one of my GBB pistols, and required a few hundred spending on it to get it very good. So  - at that price range, pure luck of the draw! That said, nothing ventured, nothing gained, and if it turns out it needs updgrading, that's pretty fun.

For plinking, you still want something relatively accurate, otherwise there isn't any real point to it. I'd venture that, given the inherent accuracies of even the most amazing airsoft platform, you would have more plinking fun with the fast fire capabilities of a GBB or AEG, at closer range, and focusing more on speed etc.

Some of cheap one are utter shite, but it's a very much suck and see.
If you can stretch the budget ever so slightly, the jg bar 10 is a vsr clone that a lot of folk have gone for as it cheap, and really easy to upgrade of you want to take it more places than a short range.

So after lets just call it at least a decade away I finally feel that I'm back, so I thought it'd be interesting to share my journey as attempt to get my head around the changes in tech & re-develop my loadout to match my play style which hasn't changed in the meantime.

First off, I'd forgotten just how much I'd missed this both mentally and physically. I've been laid up in and out of hospital the last few years - to the extent that I've gone from superfit to completely broken. I finally found something which I could actually do without landing me back in A&E last October & thanks to a push from my wife - I tried out a game at my local airsoft site. I sold up pretty much everything (it was around the time of the in-fighting over setting up UKARA - alongside some horrible personal issues that was the final straw).

So I had my old ICS552, my custom WA S&W 1911, my 8mm Redhawk & a battered CYMA M3 rip off. Despite the WA utterly failing in the cold weather, the SIG shedding parts & developing the fire selection switch developing the attitude of a teenager I had a whale of a time. Finally picked up my PASS & the intervening time let me try out the modern "toys" and get my head around what I enjoyed.

I've never been a kit nerd when it comes to fiddling/upgrading or to achieving a particular loadout "style". Instead I've always ended up picking out what for me is the "best of breed" in terms of what does what I need it to, hence you could politely describe my look as that of a scruffy mercenary - as opposed to that of someone as likely to sell you a big issue as shoot you. I did get an ego boost from being described as a "Ukrainian nutter" though

So in terms of clothing/webbing I just go with what is comfy. At the moment its a pair of yard boots (closest thing to trainers in terms of comfort), an old pair of combats, norge, appropriate layers & a russian OMON style vest. Its light, room for 3 spare M4 style mags, shotgun shells, 2 blank firing grenades & some high energy shack items.

I then go with a belt running two bianchi holsters & spare revolver shells/pistol mags. Its nice to be able to dump the belt at the safe zone or go down to one sidearm without having to reconfigure everything.

So my general "normal" loadout now is as follows ...

SA-15 Edge - Batteries have moved on! Being able to fit a single battery in the stock which is enough capacity for a full day's play is a revelation. Battery capacity was always a factor in the past - so its great to be able to pick something I love the feel of without worrying about having to change/carry a spare. Aside from the tight inner barrel I didn't think there was much point in going for anything gucci. My AEG has always been a tool first. Hops have come on - I remember the old TM hop with its tendancy to unwind randomly (I ran both an M4 & SR16 for a while) but this is easy to set how I want it - and it stays that way. I also hated M4 mags - partially a look & feel, partially having to spend so much time keeping them working & feeding. Very much a fan of the new S-Mag style, plus no feed issues with either hi or mid caps. 3 spare mags in the OMON vest.

Shotgun - a reliable backup and sometimes main for CQB/thicker woodland. I love tri-barrel shotguns. I sold my modded M3 when I quit - so I picked up a BO Fabarms one to replace the battered CMYA one. Its similar size & weight but definitely has more poke & consistency just like my old TM but at way less than half the price. Will run as a spare as looking to get hold of a Secutor one as its even smaller & looks sexier (sorry). I figure it'll be even easier to carry slung on my back but for the moment, for the money I'm liking this a lot. Spare shells in the sling which goes over my vest so she sits on my back. If I'm ditching the AEG then even more shells in the vest on the shell loops - saves having to take time out reloading in the safe zone

TTI JW 4 - GBB's are so much improved. And I say that as someone who loved them. This has now replaced my beloved WA 1911 and I can't believe I've gone back to a double stack 2011. I tried lots but when I picked her up something clicked. The hop/takedown are quick, mags suffer less cooldown and in terms of range once I got the hop set - well she's perfect for pulling out and "going light" with a BFG or two. Very much feels like one of the old WA Inifinities - after I'd spent a fortune on metal gubbins, internals etc. but better - out of the box FFS! Pair of spare mags in an old mil-tec twin mag pouch on the belt (will be replacing soon as its knackered), gun sits in a Bianchi M84 on the belt. Lovely - you can keep your new fangled plastic holster things

Marushin 8MM Redhawk - yes she's an antique but with a thorough clean and lube she's fine. Fill valve needs a strip and bit of plumber's tape every few months but in winter - on red - she's up to her old tricks. There is something so pure about considered shots with a 6 shot shell loader ... it honestly feels amazing. Pair of .44 magnum speedloaders on belt, she sits in a Bianchi Cyclone holster. When she gives up the ghost .... who knows. Might have to look at a den wesson if only to be able to keep my love of using nothing but a revolver & speedloaders in game occasionally Oh, and if anyone knows a source of 8mm BB's that's be great, although I'm down to my last 700 they should last a few years as I tend to only get through a dozen every skirmish.

So that's where I'm at. It kinda feels comfy - like a modern upgrade of the kit "style" I know and love. When the weather warms up a bit I'll start venturing further afield - heard great things about the "x" site in Mold. Much prefer sneaky, muddy bog snorkelling/woodland play rather than speedball - although in building CQB does lead to me making disturbing sounds as I play.

Airsoft is definitely more popular. the kit better, the choice in the UK so much wider (anyone else remember the says of WGC shop/Den trinity importing *everything*). People messing around with Western Arms kit - endlessly upgrading/fixing seems to have been replaced by a different bunch of people endlessly upgrading/fixing HPA guns - but I'm really enjoying getting back into this

Depending which document you read, replicas / imitations are prohibited. Low powered air weapons are the closest to airsoft, but...

    then there's that.

Maaaybe. But if Royal Mail counters have taken the money, you've got an implicit contract with them. Whether a court will enforce it is another question.

The other option is to just use whatever courier you fancy, as "sporting goods", with any level of cover you want, and solidly packaged. If they lose it, well, how can they demonstrate what was in the package?

For all that people believe and claim that businesses have access to special terms that permit sending of RIFs / airguns / airsoft guns, I've yet to see any evidence of it.

They will insure RIFs/Package items to their minimum insurance level for PF48 which IIRC is £150, any additional/enhanced insurance is null and void in the shipping of RIFs with them.

Last time I read through their T&Cs they will only ship "Low Powered Air Weapons" using their PF48 service, so not sure how they'll respond to the use of PF24 etc for shipping.

ibo7 reacted to sonofsammo in Garden canes and tin cans can be fun!
Well what can I say, other than I'm bored?
Haven't played since I headbutted a rock, but still need to shoot things. As do my boys.
We'd been shooting in the garden, using tin cans, at ground level.
I had an epiphany - I was teaching my boys to shoot people's feet!
    Useless.
So I immediately went out and bought a load of garden canes.
I then stuck them in the ground all over the (enclosed) garden. I topped them off with a cat food tin and voila - one course of fire created for pennies! Sod these electric target systems - it was an absolute blast and cheap as chips.
You can do all sorts of drills, lay them out in any order you want. The only limit is your imagination.
Why dafuq I never thought of it before is beyond me.
As the boys improve, I'll start designating different targets as pistol and rifle, so they can transition between the two.
By the time they can actually play, they're going to be awesome 😄
Anyway... if you haven't, I can highly recommend it and if you have, I'm open to any further ideas to make it even better.

Yep, always been the way.  Problem is in this budget range you don't get as much consistency in the manufacturing or QC/QA checks.

"The death of one man is a tragedy.  The death of millions is a statistic."

The turnover of airsoft players is too regular for it to become common knowledge that anyone's individual experience of a given brand is, not to be harsh, but essentially worthless (until aggregated).  If someone's had dozens of items from a brand over a few years and looked at them closely and compared to others.. it's slightly more relevant, but still nothing concrete.  I've seen people get insanely unlucky multiple times with proven and objectively quality brands and 1-2 actually have multiple Ares guns that lasted years of heavy play.

Posting "my experience with X item bought at Y time" is fine and you add it to the pile for others to read and do with as they see fit.  Someone like Luke at NA is maybe one rare example of an individual who sees probably hundreds of guns a year and has done for years and can say "Z brand is likely to be decent for ABC reasons" with some amount of credence, but everyone else - 99% chance you're not sufficiently qualified to make such a statement.  Even if you've been playing very regularly for 20 years and travelling all over, you might glean a bit of an inkling but brands and models come and go very rapidly, quality levels rise and fall in the space of months some time.  Constantly aggregating the necessary data points in short enough a time isn't really feasible for the vast majority.

In my experience which is exclusively sub-£200 budget gnus as that's my budget - I'd say that any of the big names will serve any beginner perfectly well, and most are available under £150.

-CYMA - A good safe bet, they just work and seem to last really well. The CM513 is brilliant, mock suppressor and tons of RIS space. Their AKs are legendary and highly recommended. CM048 is next on my want list. Probably the best choice here.
-JG - Another safe bet, again they just work. Provides "different" platforms like MP5s, M14s, G3s, G36s etc.
-Specna - Their Core series is decent, Edge IMO should be avoided, everyone knows someone who's had an Edge that's had the complicated electronics or notorious Orion gearbox poo itself at an awkward moment and ruining a skirmish day. Would pick a CYMA or LT instead but that's just me.
-Double Eagle - The Honey Badger series has gained a real cult following for lots of features often seen on Gnus double their price - I haven't tried one but lots of fans out there, seeing them appear regularly and everyone has nothing but praise.
-Lancer Tactical - Controversial opinion, but I'd recommend them for beginners, lots of features for the money and imternals seem decent. The plastic they use for construction feels more sturdy than most other manufacturers at this price point. I have the M933 Gen 2. It's great cheap thrills, a real hoot, best 100 quid I spent in airsoft!
-G&G - Have a good rep, excellent quality but their prices seem to have inflated considerably over the past couple of years. Overpriced for what they are IMHO but otherwise a safe bet for something that will just work.

Couple of points to make for beginner AEGs:-

-Don't get too hung up on metal bodies - yes its "more realistic" but a) it makes it heavier and b) the metal used in many airsoft guns, especially at this price point, tends to be pretty shit. Plus plastic doesn't rust...
-Forget "upgrades". Most AEGs are decent out of the box and only require routine maintenance to keep them working nicely. Parts only really need replacing if they get worn out/broken, like hop rubbers, barrels, motors etc. Focus on getting your game good, your aim, your fitness and your tactics and being part of a team. Those are the important things. Fancy high-end pieces or "uPgRaDeD" frankensteins, i.e. the airsoft equivalent of a tarted-up Vauxhall Nova (and just as unreliable, unless done by someone who knows what they are up to), do not make you a better player.
-Snipers, DMRs etc. seem "cool" (and they are to an extent), however its a different way of playing and requires a lot of patience, practice and investment to get right - something that most beginners don't have. Learn the basics first. Learn about communication, team tactics, getting fit, learn your site and the different attack points, defensive points, ways to move, bits you can camp in etc. Once you learn the game you can then look at the different roles within a team and look at things like being a marksman etc.

The most important point in all of this however is something that many miss - HAVE FUN!
