Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll invest in some .28 first and see how they perform. Then upgrade the barrel etc next. Prof, you said "it your hop can handle it"? Is there issues with heavier ammo damaging hops?
-
I've always played with .2 Exel so never really knew any different. Heard recently about the benefit of heavier ammo, but I always assumed it was more of a benefit for DMR/Snipers etc.I'll def check it out. I haven't played in 7yrs and thing seem to have come a long way since I was a regular; so I'm having to re-learn everything now!
-
.20 Excel at the moment. But once all that's gone I was planning to go .25 and maybe a better brand. I can get a bit trigger happy and burn through a bag in no time! Thanks, Hudson. Well worth a look. Most of the front end is an integrated silencer (not even threaded, held by friction inside the RIS, so I can get a little wiggle room of 5/10mm or so.

PT247: Currently running at ~300fps and the limit is 350. So I've got plenty of playing room. The current barrel is a JG Standard, so probably pretty pants quality. Thanks for the advice, I'll get looking around for the ones you mentioned :-) Edit: Just had a small heart attack at the price of the PDI Barrel. I know why you said "If you can afford it". Prometheus it is :-) Profrink: Looking into getting a decent hop set up. Prometheus rubber, might get a whole new unit too as I'm going to have to butcher my old TM hop otherwise. It's a 2piece hop unit, so makes things a little more interesting. Thanks guys :-)

Hi guys As mentioned several times recently, I'm a tech novice so don't have much of a clue about things like this. I've seen a lot of debate about Barrel Length affecting accuracy. (Don't groan...it's not that again). I'm keeping my M4 as a stubby, as I much prefer a shorter, more mobile, "CQB Gun"...but I (will be) playing in woodland/FIBUA so I'm looking to upgrade to get a little more range, accuracy and tighter groupings. Already sorting a new Hop Up setup, so no need to worry bout that. I currently have a 160mm inner barrel - the longest I can go is 200mm before it pokes out the end. With such a short barrel; is there any benefit to getting a tightbore? Or will there be no real effect, even with the ~40mm extra? Thinking of going for a 6.03 if it's worthwhile. Anyone have any experience on this?

What have you just 3d printed (for airsoft)
Twice19 replied to sp00n's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Would you consider printing these to order, Sp00n?I've been looking around for a decent RIS mount for my SOCOM for a while. I'd happily pay (within reason of course!) for one of these? -
looking for a particular part, help please

I've never seen anything like that myself. Maybe a custom job? -

Would this be it? http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/g-g-45-degree-tactical-rail-mount-for-ris-ras-handguard-black.html#.VusWMtkgGc0 -
Never heard of BlackViper, so that's not a good start. It's *generally* a good idea to stick to well known, well tested brands. (Yes, I realise that with an attitude like this, new, respectable brands won't get a look in...blah blah). In my experience, it's best to avoid any company that has "BBGuns" in the name. Generally they are selling rubbish for people to use when on a bouncy castle, and it won't last 5mins in an actual game.

As long as your trigger finger still works, your never too told to play.

It's an interesting point CBH. A site I use to play regularly at always mentioned in their safety briefings that any medication/asthma pumps should *always* be carried in left breast pocket. This way, everyone always knows where to find it. Fortunately it was a small site in the middle of town, so access was always quick and easy. However, with hindsight, First Aid is rarely "advertised" on sites. The worst case I've seen, personally, is a teammate putting his knee into a Wasp Nest. This lead to 10-15 people being stung dozens of times; 2 ended up going to A&E as a precaution. I admit it's probably a very rare case (I bloody well hope!!), but the marshals seemed reasonably good at fixing us all back up again with a basic med kit. They used the sites 4x4s to get us out of the games zone/ safe zone to the Dual Carriage Way Parking where we were all parked and the ambulance could get to us. No telling what would have happened if one of us had bust a leg running away. I would have thought that Risk Assessment, First Aid etc would be a huge part of any Insurance though....right??

Just to be "that guy", I've got a few Viper bits that have been seriously used and abused over the years, and never had any problems with them. I've never really used any of the "higher end" gear (Warrior etc), so I can't judge how Viper compares to "XYZ". But never had an issue with their stuff.

Never smile when your lying. Never sneeze when your hiding. Never, ever, trust a man who walks the streets in his pyjamas. Oh wait, did you want some Airsofting advice? Let the younger, faster kids do all the running around. Once everyone is out of breath and can't run anymore - walk in and shoot them yourself Welcome to the sport, buddy. If you genuinely need some advise on something, we're actually pretty helpful. (Not inluding myself in the "we" at all).

Hi Paul, Welcome to the forums 😃 Have a read over the Stickies on here, there is a tonne of useful info 😃 Where are you looking to play?
-
Thanks Cheeseright, good to know. I'll stick to Prometheus for the upgrade bits I'm looking into. Thankyou for all the info, everyone. You've likely saved me a load of wasted money and effort. Looking into the Purple Nub and a 6.03 Prometheus Barrel, hopefully that will sort everything out for a bit before I grow a pair and start opening up the gearbox for tweaks too.
-
Thanks Cheeseright. I think I fell into the "ooh, shiny! It must be better!" trap. Are Prometheus considered a pretty reliable brand for most upgrades? Thinking of a barrel too.

Thanks for the help, Lozart. I'm getting totally lost trying to get my head around this. So many variations on different parts...and so much bloody jargon too!!!

I'll look into fixing up the workings of the Hop that's in there. My old TM (in pieces now) and this JG both have the 2piece hop, so when I went online I was very confused as to why nothing matched them! Definately don't want to start dremelling out parts of the gun to try and get something that might not fit. Any recommendations for Bucking and Nubs etc? Everyone seems to advertise theirs as being the best. It's hard to find an actual *users* account of what to go for. Trying to read up on this, but there's so much info about R-Hop this and Flat Nub that...I'm just getting more confused! Thanks for all the advice, guys. :-) Edit/Update: Been looking online and it's possible to still get the "Upper" 2 piece hop upgraded, so i might treat myself to this ( http://www.evike.com/products/33354/ ) on payday, with a nice tighter barrel in there too. Firstly I'll give it all a good clean up internally. Got a game in 2 weeks where I can see how well/badly the gun performs. The need for an upgrade is from test-fires and chrono's at my local site - as I've just rebuilt the gun after a 7yr break from Airsofting. But the shots didn't have a great deal or range and groupings were pretty poor.

Hi guys I'm a total novice and anything technical when it comes to airsoft, so this may be a really dumb question (sorry it is). I'm looking to upgrade the range & accuracy on my JG M4 (totally stock), so looking to invest in a new Hop Unit and barrel. However, all the Hop Ups I've seen look like this: But the Hop I've got in my M4 is this one: Maybe I'm being really stupid; but the new hop is totally different to the old - so am I going to have to source a different type to get it to fit??? Thanks for the help

£100 for a few battered mags?!? I've got a few scuffed up (authentic looking) metal hi caps. With the extra authentic look, recon I can get £150. Any takers?

Good info 😃 I used to play in Guarder shooting glasses, but I never thought about the possibility of BB's skimming in the sides. I had a look at them after reading this and they're terrible! Loads of gaps which could be an issue. Fortunately, I never had an accident....and after playing a lot more CQB I ended up going Full Face all the way 😃 Although, with the Stingers being the "least gappy", is there still a (possible) issue with them?

Is the Facebook ban going to ruin the forum?
Twice19 replied to ImTriggerHappy's topic in General Discussion
Or their Piece...if they're really gangsta That said, I knew a guy who named his guns. He went so far as to having their names professionally engraved on them. Unfortunately, no-one but him could keep up with what guns were called what...so when he talked about using Beth and Martha, we still didn't have a clue what he was on about. -
Definately started looking for TRMR Dimension, thinking it was a new version

It might be worthwhile editing the title to something along the lines of "New Player in Leicestershire..." to catch the attention of your local players. I'm not familiar with your neck of the woods, so I can't advise on sites etc at all ok afraid. With Kit atleast, I recommend to buy cheap and upgrade/replace when it's needed. I'm still playing in the £15 Assault Vest I bought when I first started. Bought it cheap and loved it all along. Tried several different types of Chest Rig/LBV/Plate Carrier etc, but never got on with them. -

Check out the "New Player Guides & Info" and "New and Looking for Somewhere to Play" stickies in this sub-forum. There's a tonne of info on there; probably will answer any questions you have. Make sure you read up on UKARA & VCRA (UK Law subforum). Best bet is to find your local site and rent for a few games there. It's more expensive than walk-on; but it will give you a chance to get UKARA. While your there, chat to the guys in the SafeZone. Most of us are nice people who are more than happy to show off our kit. Have a handle of their guns and find what you are comfortable with. There's no "best gun", only a "gun that's best for you". Decent boots and Eye Protection are just as important (if not more) than your first gun. Avoid playing in trainers it you can - you'll slip in woodland, or slip on the spent BBs in CQB. For eye pro, personally id stick with a reputed brand & retailer - some of the cheap ones on EBay can't be guaranteed to keep you safe. Remember; You only get one set of eyes. Don't e the "it'll never happen to me!" guy. If you can't find the info you need on here - just ask. Someone on here can answer near enough anything. Lastly, enjoy 😃 Where abouts are you based? It could be a good idea to get to know (on here) some regulars at your local site - so you know someone on site when you first walk on. It can be a bit daunting being the new guy in a group of Veterans :-) P.S. Welcome :-)
